Seeing pics of Far right French Nazis serving in the Foreign brigades in Ukraine and it's obvious this is going to be a repeat of what happened with Jihadists and the Mujahadeen during the 80s Western government breathes life into dying radical movements by getting some war-torn nation (that they set up from the start) to become the training ground and birthplace of groups that will eventually go home to places they morally hate and despise and then let the inevitable violence, counter violence, and cries of the "people" for the government's gauntlet to strangle us all unfold as it did back in the early 2000s.
#of course the main American party overseeing this is one that people on this site will be more unwilling to criticize#you will be more distracted by pop culture theatre with WWE actors playing a scarecrow boogeyman

TIL a startling number of British theatre critics don't think Assassins is about White America.
Assassins: a play by white Americans about white Americans killing white Americans for white Americans in order to get what they feel white Americans are entitled to.
That Assassins. That one.
#theatre#i'm not saying that the show demands an all white cast#i think it could be cast and staged in a way that calls even greater attention to the whiteness of the american dream#and the resentment and gun culture and celebrity worship that motivated the assassins#actors of color playing white characters could make whiteness impossible to ignore#but that's not what chichester did#the assassins were audience plants who were assigned the role of a particular assassin and that was that#and i haven't seen a single review yet that mentions race#if you have please share#the radio silence about casting actors of color as fromme and zangara and czolgosz is destabilizing#i'm questioning if i exist in a separate reality#i know not everything is about white americans but c'mon#this feels like one thing

Brannigan (1975)
"Well, if it was up to me, I'd get some men out thumping on the streets, passing out some 'e pluribus unum'. That's what ninety percent of police work is today."
"The murder rate in your country, I'm sure, gives ample testimony to your superior police methods."
#brannigan#1975#british cinema#crime film#douglas hickox#christopher trumbo#michael butler#william p. mcgivern#john wayne#richard attenborough#judy geeson#john vernon#mel ferrer#daniel pilon#john stride#james booth#ralph meeker#barry dennen#del henney#lesley anne down#arthur batanides#ok so for the record i despise John Wayne the person; i also don't particularly rate JW the film star‚ excepting for a very few#special films (The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance probably topping that list). normally i wouldn't make a special effort to see any of his#films but this has been on my radar for some time: i mean it's Wayne in 70s London‚ fighting crime that's represented by classic tv#character actors like Don Henderson‚ James Booth and Brian Glover. heaven! or it would be‚ but this is a flabby‚ kind of dumb mess#partly that's on director Hickox (hard to believe he made the sublime Theatre of Blood a couple years earlier) and partly that's a bad#script which repeatedly hammers on about the cultural differences between usa and uk in an endless attempt to be funny#but the main issue is Wayne‚ too old and sickly to even begin to convince as a tough cop who can win the eye of beautiful Judy Geeson#please. gross. intriguing for sights of 70s London and that wonderful supporting cast but otherwise completely disposable#oh and some fun americans to spot too! Barry Dennen! that at least was a delightful surprise. but yeah not much to recommend this really

Is this true? I am American.
Hahaha, I mean, I totally get what they're saying, and they're not wrong exactly, but I'd probably say it's more to do with the fact that's not ocker.
#nobody wants to hear me go into the intricacies of australian masculinity / machismo haha#but he does read slightly unconventional in that he's not the ocker bloke / aussie larrikin#like i would say his accent is pretty posh too#but as i've said before that could be a result of being classically trained actor like a lot of them develop that sort of elocution#i was talking to someone at the theatre i work at ages ago about how there's like a version of the australian accent that actors use#a bit like how there was the mid-atlantic accent american actors used in the 1920s through 1940s#and he definitely uses it#so i don't know how much of it is natural or how much of it is learned#iwtv cast asks#welcome to my ama#sam asks#trying to get better at actually tagging things for admin purposes again haha

So I did a poll asking what type of theatre kid Eddie Munson would be and majority said both an actor and a techie. This is a follow up post about the actor portion.
This whole query started because of a fic I read where Eddie was in a musical and I started thinking of roles he would totally kill it in.
Here’s my list:
-Emcee in Cabaret (this one was from said fic I read)
-Dr. Frank-N-Furter or Eddie in The Rocky Horror Show
-St. Jimmy in American Idiot (I can see this as a modern AU or with what his age would be in the 2010s as this role is kind of the personification of drugs)
-Beetlejuice in Beetlejuice
-JD in Heathers (another for a modern AU)
-Gomez Addams in The Addams Family
-Some role in She Kills Monsters (it’s a play that has DND in it, come on)
What are your thoughts on this list? Do you have roles not on this list that Eddie would rock as (even if it’s a modern AU or something)? Let me know with a reply or just in the tags!

alright but. british actors ARE better at ensemble work. it must be said.
#i do think it's true that there is a heavier emphasis on training for the stage in britain than in the US#and so many british actors are simply um. better. because of the years of stage training#whereas so many american actors i feel like make a beeline for the camera#idk i feel like i can always tell if someone had a theatre background or not
