It’s no surprise that Trump won because he capitalized on the fact that egg prices are up a bajillion percent. I’ve heard my mom complain about it long enough that I don’t have to verify.

With his concepts of a plan plans to ease my parent’s hearts in paying for “those unspeakable milk prices”, or the next bag of groceries, I have a few opinions.

TARRIFS!

This guy runs with the idea that protectionism will boost domestic activities, spike American production, reduce reliance on other nations, and bring much-needed revenue to calm our raging deficit.

So me and my AP macro teacher can tell you one of the first concepts you learn in econ 101 is tariffs pass the cost onto the consumer. AKA, you and me. Naturally, this is the whole point! Boosting domestic activities by making foreign goods look less desirable. But wait.

Again, econ 101 — higher prices cause demand to fall and instead redirect to lower-priced items. The substitutes for the foreign washing machines were American-made ones. And — econ 101 coming back — if a product faces higher demand, the price (FOR DOMESTING WASHING MACHINES!!!), rises. So we got a situation where the cost rose for everything.

Politicians love to harp about keeping government out of the economy, but when it comes to international trade...

That of course, doesn’t apply.

So now, when you see proposals to hike tariffs on our largest trade partners — namely, China, Mexico, and Canada, who “account for over 40% of the total value of all goods the U.S. imported,” it becomes awfully clear who’s gonna pay the price.

INTEREST RATES!

Along with the heaps of economic indicators the president said he’ll lower, interest rates are one of them. Making housing more affordable, and promoting homeownership… sounds good, right?

Uh. Wait. One problem: he can’t control the interest rate!!! That’s up to our friend Jerome Powell, the head of the Federal Reserve, who has repeatedly stated he won’t let Trump’s influence hinder the duties of the Fed (which is politically independent). Managing the economy is hard enough, and if you mix politics in it, what kind of messed-up stew would you get?

DEPORTATIONS!

Trump called out and outlined a mass deportation plan of undocumented migrants. We’ve heard it again and again and again. But what we don’t hear is that we’ll be deporting our, as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau, “construction laborers, maids and housekeepers, cooks, home health aides, and janitors and building cleaners.”

Yeah, sure, say “They’re stealing the jobs!” But just to clarify — they’re “stealing” the jobs that Americans don’t want.

And addressing whether deportations would be feasible or not, let’s not forget that moving millions would cost billions. $315 billion, in fact, for a conservative estimate. From arrests to detention camps to relocation, it would be one of the most costly endeavors of the Trump administration.

So maybe we don’t want to put huge tariffs on our biggest trade partners, attempt to control a part of the economy that isn’t controllable, or deport 11.7 million people. But hey, at least gas prices will be lowered (which by the way, is not likely to happen)!

Addressing the "No Harassment" rule people are still breaking.

Hello everyone it's been about 5 months since I last posted anything Ugigiugi-related. However, I was recently messaged over something I still have to address because some of yall ain't listening to what many of us have been saying since this Ugigiugi drama began. This will be a long post.

There has always been a rule of "No harassing" people about the Ugigiugi situation.

This rule has always extended to people who do not want to see/hear the drama in the Twst fandom but also to people who used to/currently follow Ugigiugi. Anyone who's followed my blog knows I've already had to talk about harassment/spamming before but it seems no matter what people keep breaking this rule.

I was recently messaged that one (former) follower of Ugigiugi was being harassed. This same person who messaged me is someone who has helped save/sent us some of Ugi's now hidden art and given us some art sources since the drama unfolded. They have already explained to me that they only follow Ugigiugi on DA now for the sake of keeping an eye on her activity and nothing else.

Now I'm aware there are several reasons people still follow Ugigiugi on DA. I know some people follow her by watching her profile. Others use tabs/HTML links to said profile and so on. Whatever reason doesn't matter people follow people for different reasons. That being said once again I am still seeing this type of harassment going on and it needs to be addressed. I was sent these screenshots and have permission to post these by the person being harassed.

So first off. This is STILL harassment. I'll keep saying it till the cows come home. Harassment of any type is against what a lot of us here have been saying to not do. Secondly, Let me correct people here on something. A watch doesn't equal a "boost" or supporting number on a profile. DeviantArt doesn't work the same way Tumblr or Twitter works when it comes to boosting a profile to the "popular" side of a Social media page. Engagement/activity/views on art pieces are what boost the algorithm. (More so you have to be breaking BIG NUMBERS to get your profile on the front page) That being said? Ugigiugi's numbers have dropped since she was exposed. She used to be pretty close to 600 watchers. She's now down to 315. So if anything she's lost half of her numbers, and with her no longer posting on DA she's lost traction as of this time. Thirdly, it's juvenile to be going after Ugigiugi's "watchers". At that point, you're just looking to start a witch hunt for people. Ironically, you're also going after the people who have been helping me and others since the drama unfolded. I need people here to stop going after people like this. You shouldn't be harassing anyone. It doesn't even matter if they're a watcher/or a fan of Ugigiugi or someone who might be helping keep an eye on her. We've stated time and time again, to not be harassing anyone. PERIOD! I'm going to go ahead and say this if anyone is getting harassed about the Ugigiugi stuff please just go ahead and block or report them. I'm getting very tired of having to repeat the rules because people are looking to use their "ugi hate" on someone. As for whoever this Cerulea--blue person? I don't know if they are a user here or if their under a different name on Tumblr but if you see this post? Kindly, stop. If you have so much energy to be doing something then go source Ugigiugi's traced art (there are still plenty of unsourced pieces) or something more productive than harassing people. Airlines are banking on sustainable aviation fuel to reduce the industry’s planet-warming pollution. But the amount of lower-carbon alternatives available to them right now represents just a few drops in an ocean of petroleum.

On Wednesday, the U.S. Department of Energy announced a nearly $3 billion effort that it said could significantly boost America’s output of sustainable aviation fuel, or SAF, over the next few years, Canary Media has exclusively learned.

The agency’s Loan Programs Office has made conditional commitments to two companies in the Great Plains region that are working to turn crops and waste feedstocks into jet fuel.

Montana Renewables, a subsidiary of the industrial manufacturer Calumet, could receive a loan guarantee of up to $1.44 billion to expand its existing renewable fuels facility in Great Falls, Montana. The company makes biofuels for planes and trucks using vegetable oils and leftover animal fats and greases. The expansion would allow Montana Renewables to produce about 315 million gallons per year of biofuels, most of which will be SAF — equal to nearly eight times the country’s total SAF production capacity in 2023.

Colorado-based Gevo is vying for a loan guarantee of $1.46 billion to build a new jet-fuel refinery in Lake Preston, South Dakota. The facility, named Net-Zero 1, would turn corn into ethanol to produce up to 60 million gallons of SAF per year. Because the ethanol-making process creates carbon dioxide emissions, Gevo is planning to capture CO2 at the refinery and send it via the proposed — and highly contentious — Summit Carbon Solutions pipeline to a storage site in North Dakota.

Patrick Gruber, CEO of Gevo, said the announcement ​“marks a watershed moment for the Net-Zero 1 project and a critical step forward” in the company’s mission to produce low-carbon jet fuel. 

The projects are the first SAF-related ventures to win the backing of the Loan Programs Office, which has issued $42.4 billion in loans and loan guarantees and made $21.6 billion in conditional commitments as of June 2024. The office is supporting other clean energy initiatives such as battery manufacturing, virtual power plants, fuel cell production, and the repowering of old nuclear plants.

The two fuel producers will have to meet certain milestones before they can close on the federal loan guarantees and start putting the financing to work.
