My WIP Intro Post

Lambswool (working title) is a folk horror/gothic horror/historical fiction novel with elements of dark fantasy and gaslamp fantasy. It's character driven and draws heavily on inspiration from mythology, folklore, and the occult--especially anything related to Samhain/Halloween.

It's still in the early phases of development and research while I simultaneously attempt to write a zero draft in the most chaotic, out-of-order way possible. Here's the basic concept/premise as it stands right now:

A dying child in regency-era England named Tristan Learmont summons a demon to help him run away from home, and gets more than he bargained for when he unleashes an ancient evil in the process. Soon Tristan finds himself in a race against time to do the demon's dark bidding with his soul on the line. This road leads him to Crispin, the youngest misfit member of a supernatural species who has sneaked into the human world. Tristan is compelled to lure Crispin to his destruction as part of the demon's plot to sow chaos on earth. But when Tristan starts to connect with Crispin, a fellow black sheep, things get complicated. And when Crispin and Tristan find out that their fates are more intertwined than either of them anticipated, well. All Hell (s) breaks loose. The two must navigate the realm of faerie, the land of the dead, haunted castles, dreary moors, cursed stone circles, and (perhaps most frightening of all) 19th century England as they search for their place in the world(s) and determine the fate of the balance between them.

A quick one:

I want to get more involved with people's current WIPs on this lil' corner of tumblr, but I'm finding it hard to get a foothold since it can be overwhelming jumping into something that someone's been working on for potentially months/years on each individual blog.

SO in an attempt to gather some of these WIPs in one place for me and others to browse, I'd love it if you could reblog this with a few lines/paragraphs about your plot/characters, maybe with links to any WIP intros you have and the genre too.

Tales from the Black Plains (intro) (tag) is a historical revisionist 'anti'-western with low fantasy elements and a focus on characters and romance. It's adult fiction with dark themes.

It'll be a collection of 'prequel' stories leading into one major novel, revolving around a group of outlaws called the Jack Fowler Gang and the morally ambiguous crew who band together to oppose them.

At the centre of the major plot is the enemies-to-lovers bond between gang leader Jack Fowler and Abigail Stone, the sheriff's daughter. Fowler is searching for something and takes over Abigail's town to find it. With the sheriff away, Abigail feels an obligation to step up and protect her town. But things get complicated when she figures out his true motives and discovers that Jack Fowler might be the only thing standing between the Black Plains and catastrophe.

One of my SxF theories is that Twilight is a big romantic and has had feelings for Yor since the very start. I think there are little clues here and there, but there’s one in particular that stands out to me. One that, I think, makes it very obvious how he feels, but it seems to get overlooked. And it all centers around Anya, of course!

I’m gonna use the manga for this, although this has happened in the anime.

In chapter 30, Nightfall shows up at the apartment trying to get Yor out of the picture so she can be Twilights wife. She tries to insinuate to Yor that Loid talks bad about her at the hospital, when she’s interrupted by Loid and Anya coming home.

Anya quickly discovers Nightfalls intent to become the Forger wife and mother and the poor girl freaks out.

So, Anya manipulates the situation, making it clear that she loves Yor as her mama, and no one else can compare.

Her plan works. Loid tells Yor that she is a great wife and mother, right in front of Nightfall, and he gives her these very tender, fond looks.

Nightfall knows what’s up. He’s got real, genuine feelings for his family. (Keep in mind this happens maybe like, a month or two in. They just became a family.)

Anyway, despite her husband looking at her with giant heart eyes, Yor is doubting her place in the family. She’s very worried about his relationship with Nightfall. Anya sees this:

And reassures her:

This is important! Because just the other day, Anya was freaking out as well that Yor was going to be replaced. What did she see in Twilight’s mind that made Anya so sure there was nothing to worry about? Did she perhaps see something when he was swooning over his family, something that confirmed in her 5-year-old mind that her papa was never going to replace her mama? I think so. And I think it was pretty straightforward, obvious enough for a child like Anya to understand.

Just to drill my point home, after Twilight plays tennis pro with Nightfall, he deems it necessary to reassure Yor himself. Anya is there to witness this:

Of course, she’s just a sweet little baby, so she doesn’t understand completely. But she does understand that there are romantic feelings at play! Why else would she say all of this?

So yeah, I think Mr. “I can’t have feelings for other people, I must be alone forever” is developing a big fat crush on his fake wife. So much so, that his mind reading young daughter has caught on to it!
