Okay okay but Vio’s hair is in front, indicating that despite the situation, he’s actually the one in control. Vio has a darker undershirt, Shadow’s is lighter, perhaps belying some of their innermost inclinations. Vio’s belt buckle and jewelry is silver, Shadow’s is gold, showing which one of them is actually warmer. Vio isn't wearing any visible armor, giving the impression of vulnerability, but those are likely expensive fabrics that nevertheless flaunt his confidence. In contrast, Shadow's gambeson is a little more practical and protects his heart (and other organs but I'm being poetic). Vio is wearing a visible sword belt, though no weapons are in frame, perhaps symbolizing that he's the aggressor, the only one thinking about fighting through the scene, at least up until this moment.

From the summer theme I knew early on I wanted to draw a picnic, and with your prompt of "fantasy creature AUs" I decided to make it a fairy picnic, because teeny-tiny picnic sets are adorable. That's probably a napkin they're using as a picnic blanket xD
