I just wanted to share something with you guys: So, today I came across this image of Aaravos (probably from the trailer), and then I spent the next few seconds laughing to myself:
Tumblr media
And "why is that?", you may ask...
Because the fireballs (and also Aaravos' expression) reminded me of THAT scene of Mongo: the Giant Gingerbread Man from Shrek
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And it wasn't even the first time I saw that image (of Aaravos), but right now I can't look at it without hearing "Holding Out for a Hero" playing in my head.
I don't think I've ever been so disappointed in my own sense of humor ☠️

I personally think that some people feel much more "brave" on the Internet than they actually are in real life, and take advantage of this to be rude and inconsequential for no apparent reason – this is simply childish and immature.
It's not about whether or not you liked the ending of the show (or the show as a whole)
Seriously, do you really think that "you" are the first people to dislike something in a series, movie or work of fiction? For God's sake, there are at least 5 fandoms out there that can tell you stories about it...but that's not the point here!
Listen, if you're old enough to roam the internet freely, you're also old enough to understand how an opinion should be shared - with respect and rationality (or at least you should be)
And if you're not old enough to be on the Internet (according to the age restriction) then maybe you should be doing something else: reading a book, drawing, studying, listening to music, touching the grass, etc. 🤷‍♀️
And just to be clear, this is NOT JUST about the show. Whether or not you liked the ending of the show is not the issue here, but how you express it is; because I feel like it has become "common" to think that you can be disrespectful to other people in the name of "free speech", and that is not how things are supposed to work - your freedom of speech should not infringe on other people's freedom.
You know what's perfectly okay? Critiquing tdp s7 in a calm rational manner if you think aspects of it aren't perfect.
You know what's not okay? Actively wishing away and campaigning against something that is a person's job and how they make money. And insulting a story that people have poured their hearts and creativity into. And going onto people, who enjoyed s7, accounts just to insult something they love and want more of.

The way these two scenes seem to exemplify Claudia’s emotional immaturity and how she has hardly changed in her outlook on the world over the past few seasons by paralleling each other.

It’s the way she does the eye thing and pushes her hair out of the way in both.

The amount of likes makes me believe media literacy is dead and buried into the ground. I don't like sounding so condescending but C'MON. Tai Lung was so self-centered he started going into a murderous rampage through the city when he got rejected‚ hurting innocent citizens and their homes in his way. Yes Shifu did put a lot of expectations on him but that doesn't excuse his behaviour or makes him right. Oogway didn't choose him because he saw how dangerous that could have been. He was jailed after he tried to kill them ffs. Tai Lung seeing Shifu not oposing to Oogway's choice as betrayal doesn't mean it was an actual betrayal.
None of the furious five tried to destroy the city or force their way to the dragon warrior title just because Po was chosen. Tai Lung was just power hungry and not a good person at all.
It's very tiring to see the amount of people who want to justify antagonists who gave no qualms or regrets about hurting innocent people. (Tho it happens irl so I'm not surprised). Would this guy have defenders if he was a dirty midget raccoon instead of an humanoid muscular strong handsome leopard man with an amazing design? Genuine question.

Don’t get me wrong I think about them all day every day but you know when some days the gravity of the entire plot just hits you so hard you’re like woah, Rayla jumped off a cliff at 15 and Callum jumped after her Ezran almost drowned at 9 Callum’s mother died when he was 5 or something how the hell did he pick himself back up from that AND take care of his baby brother Ezran was full on orphaned at age 9 AND he’s a child king running a country and Rayla’s village banished a teenager and blames her for murder Claudia brought her dad back from the dead and is going a lil psycho 😊 Rayla’s spent two years alone probably in the depths of the woods and Callum got possessed and Soren was mentally tortured and probably believed he was stupid for 18 years not to mention paralyzed at one point and Rayla left in the middle of the night because she thinks the world is on her shoulders alone and Callum punched someone for her and Ezran stomped the arrow used to kill his dad and stared down an arch dragon and probably hasn’t properly processed any of his grief and cheerful fun-loving Terry murdered someone for his girlfriend and Rayla was ready to loose a hand in the most painful excruciating way imaginable for her little brother and Callum was ready to loose his life and Soren probably spent countless nights awake and worried wondering where his little sister was and Rayla’s entire family is trapped in dark magic coins after being assumed dead and Callum was electrocuted and tortured on a pirate ship and Soren stabbed his father through the chest for Ezran's life and that creepy sir sparkepuff thing came out of a cocoon and Harrow doomed the world for Sarai and now we’re probably going to watch history repeat itself, and you’re just like wow ohmygod how horrendous that is actually a lot of dark shit to process 😃?
No just me okay whatever

So, who will get their poem written this year and who had to wait till next year(if I make it 😅 ) 👀 👀
It is worth noting that I already had done a Madara Birthday, link below!
Choose Carefully and If you had not done so already, Check out this Minato Kamikaze Poem I did a few weeks ago to Celebrate his Birthday.

You know, it breaks my heart a little that while Rayla has managed to have two sets of parents who love, care for and worry about her, Soren and Claudia have been let down, abandoned and/or used by any parental figures they have had..
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And in Claudia's case, two of her "father figures" had died – well, not exactly a permanent death in Aaravos' case, but still.
And considering Viren's whole situation, she "lost" him twice. She spent two years in the company of her own father's corpse to try to bring him back to life. She managed to bring him back to life, and he left her, and then died.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And where do I begin with Soren's situation? His mother's departure hurt him as much as it hurt Claudia; and although he wants to hate Lissa for abandoning his family, he still seems to hold on to her memory with a certain fondness (you know, since he still keeps a picture of her)
And his relationship with Viren is also something else. Imagine slowly losing the love and admiration you had for a person. A person who used to play happily with you as a child becomes the person who makes you feel inadequate, wrong and not good enough – and that person is your own father.
And the worst part is not even knowing what happened, or what was done to make things this way. Was your fault, or something else?

These poor kids managed to get both"daddy issues" and "mommy issues" all at once!

I've been thinking about @spicyviren 's post about Claudia preventing the sun from rising (and they made a more in-depth post today as well, which is also very good!), so last night I got curious and Googled mythology and eclipses because what if the eclipse actually happens and it's not just Viren's dream? And we know TDP likes mythological references. So...
Tumblr media
This is so fascinating because of the "I swallowed her" comment Aaravos makes in Janai's dream.
Tumblr media
A demon (or dragon, or-- (etc)) is eating the sun?
Tumblr media
(*Personally, I don't think Janai's dream is necessarily accurate for telling us what happened -- but Aditi getting "eaten" by someone especially a dragon wouldn't surprise me.)
And speaking of "swallowing"...
Tumblr media
And some of the other mythological explanations mentioned in the article I linked are also really interesting:
Tumblr media
(The highlighting was done by Google, so it's not necessarily more important.)
And canon material, especially the Ripples short specifically, reflects a few themes here:
Abandonment - the humans are essentially abandoned by the stars (and the sun is a star): "It cannot be, wept others. The stars would not betray us!" - after the "star" falls from the sky and changes the land.
Crisis/existential threat - "With its impact came a long and terrible night: The earth bled! The seas churned! The sun and moon hid for weeks behind the sky’s screaming storm!" (Also bolded for emphasis because the sun hiding? The fact the moon does too is interesting, but the sun specifically is called out later: "And when the long, dark night had finally passed—for the sun must always rise, mustn’t it?" VERY interesting considering the sunrise mentions in S5.)
Eclipse as an act of creation - though much of the story talks about the calamity, there's also how "[the stars] had rejoiced to look down upon their newborn sea."
The Sun and Moon coupling and creating more stars - this is more of a stretch, but the Sun and Moon did get hidden together, and the Sea (of the Castout) serving as a mirror of the stars... like they're duplicating the stars, though only in image.
Mischievous acts - I personally think Aaravos is mischievous, so hmm.
One side note on the second-to-last point: if Viren learns the Star arcanum, which is very rarely understood, could that, too, be analogous to creating another star?
Anyway this all implies that perhaps a similar eclipse occurred before, when Aaravos had fallen and the Sea of the Castout was created? And we know how the Rise Again short story, which is about her pseudo-resurrection of her pet cat, correlated to S4 opening with Claudia having brought her father back to life, sort of in a repeating history sense. Aaravos's Patience story foreshadowed the fact that all he could do in S4 is wait and bide his time. Ripples could foreshadow S5 being that first "touch" that sets off greater change... and, like with the resurrection, perhaps history repeating itself, in a sense, with a potential upcoming eclipse?
And another interesting line: "The sky opened its maw and spat from its black jaws a tiny star."
It's not exactly black, but I know some people say the ridges here look like teeth...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, even though Sol is referring to his blindness, these lines about the Sun "never [rising] again" and an "eternal night" fit into similar themes to the eclipse and the Ripples short.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, just going back to the abandonment theme of the eclipse really quick--
The Midnight Star poem also talks about the stars abandoning humanity. "Elarion, unworthy whelp, / Wept as the stars turned black the sky, / They donned their masks / They turned their backs / And left Elarion to die."
(I have more to break down about that entire stanza in another post; I just want to point out the bolded parts for now.)
Now, most of these are references to the past... so what about now?
If I were to guess on how the same themes I compared to the Ripples story might apply to "current" series events...
Abandonment - Claudia feeling abandoned by Aaravos (as mentioned in the Lost Child short)? Or, alternately, Aaravos feeling abandoned (by either Claudia, after she had to flee from the battle, and/or Viren, after his rejection)?
Crisis/existential threat - IMO the biggest threat is Karim potentially joining up with Sol Regem right now. Though some would say Aaravos being close to being freed could be the threat/crisis here. But I'm an Aaravos apologist, so I am not part of that group LOL
Eclipse as an act of creation - Claudia regenerates her missing leg, perhaps?
The Sun and Moon coupling and creating more stars - Viren Star arcanum?
Mischievous acts - Aaravos again.
All of this to say-- I don't think the eclipse is just for show/because it looks cool, but if we consider the mythological beliefs surrounding eclipses, it ties in significantly to the story.
Also I leave you with a few last bits from the article that just remind me of TDP things:
"In many cultures, the darkening of the sun meant the gods were very, very angry with humanity, and about to inflict some punishment. Often, that meant that in order to appease them, you had to kill someone."
That reminds me of the stars seeming to punish humanity for daring to use magic... which is also when Aaravos gets cast down?
"The Greeks thought an eclipse meant that the gods were about to rain punishment down on a king, so in the days before an eclipse, they would choose prisoners or peasants to stand in as the king in the hopes that they’d get the eclipse punishment and the real king would be saved. Once the eclipse was over, the substitute king was executed."
This is so far off, but it reminds me of Harrow anyway? Mostly with the soulfang serpent idea of switching Harrow with someone else. Interesting.
"For the Inuits, the sun and moon weren’t a married couple but brother and sister. At the beginning of the world they quarreled, and the sun goddess Malina walked away from her brother, the moon god Anningan. Anningan continued to chase after her, and whenever he caught up to her, there was an eclipse."
Which reminds me of the line in Strangers, the short from Soren's perspective, where "Claudia had appeared and he’d done it again, a little boy chasing after his sister..."
A lot of it is probably coincidence, but it's still really interesting!

Imagine a powerful and immortal figure who's been suffering for centuries, but a few mortals finally see through their mask of bitterness and wrath and see them for who they truly are, the person they were long ago. Imagine those few mortals make the courageous choice to try to include them in their day-to-day lives. The immortal one comes to care for them, maybe even love them, and in turn, these small mortals bring them to meet more people. The mortals fall in love and have children and those children grow up under the immortal one's loving and watchful eye. Over time, old generations die and new are born and the immortal one is reminded of why they love these little ones. Each individual of each new generation reminds them of the ones of the past, but they also have their own little quirks that make them unique.
For centuries, millenia, they watch what was once a small and strange little family grow and change, and they vow that, come what may, they WILL protect them.
The loss would be too much to bear.
it's always "immortals always lose the ones they love!" and never "this family has had this incredible, powerful, loving figure present through generations of their lineage, all because they are descended from someone the immortal loved long ago" and i think that's a shame!!
