It's so important to me that Minkowski and Eiffel and Hera spend December 25th together to celebrate Eiffel's birthday post-canon. And the hope that they spend that day together is a sentiment shared by Gabriel Urbina.

But Minkowski canonically cares about Christmas itself. Minkowski has people in her life whom she could spend Christmas with. And so there will probably have to be a difficult conversation at some point after the Hephaestus crew return to Earth, when someone says how good it will be to have Renée there for Christmas Day again. And Minkowski will have to look at her husband, or her relatives, or her in-laws - people who loved her and mourned her and celebrated upon her return from the dead - and she'll have to tell them that she won't be there on Christmas Day. And if the person who asks knows her at all, they'll see the look on her face and know that there's no negotiating to be done here.

It's not exactly that she doesn't want to celebrate Christmas with the people she used to celebrate Christmas with. But she can do that on any day near the end of December. Spending December 25th with Eiffel and Hera is something she absolutely cannot compromise on. 

The main reason she'd give for this is that December 25th is Eiffel's birthday. Whether or not it matters to him as much as it used to, Minkowski wants Eiffel's birthday to get the recognition it deserves, because it was so important to him and he never expected anyone else to care or remember.

A second reason - one she might never speak aloud - is that she's always thought that Christmas is a time for family, and nowadays that means that spending it with Eiffel and Hera feels right to her.

But I think there's a third, perhaps equally important, reason underneath those two. Maybe she doesn't admit it to herself consciously, but I think part of Minkowski believes that the only people who can really understand the complicated way she now feels about December 25th are the two people who were there with her when everything went to hell on Christmas Day.

It was December 25th when they realised they'd made contact with aliens, and when Hilbert locked Minkowski outside the airlock and tried to incapacitate Eiffel and tore out Hera's personality hardware, and when everything Minkowski had thought she knew about the Hephaestus mission fell apart.

How can she exchange gifts with people for whom it isn't the anniversary of the one of the worst days of their life? How can she gather round a Christmas tree with people who've never feared for their lives at the hands of Alexander Hilbert and Goddard Futuristics? How can she eat turkey and trimmings with people who weren't there when the Christmas dinner was never eaten because there was a murderous mutiny from one of the intended guests? How can she spend December 25th with people for whom it's never been a day of betrayal and fear and loss and uncertainty eight lightyears away from Earth?

Eiffel doesn't remember that awful Christmas and that brings its own kind of pain for Minkowski. But he was there, and so was Hera, and so (no matter what anyone else expects) Minkowski needs to be with them on that complicated day.

While I agree that nobody should be forced to write things they don't want, I disagree with the notion that NB/men that play this game should be "grateful for the MC being gender neutral". Like we're dogs and should be grateful by just being seen

GN/Men who play this game are as much the demographic as woman. Even If the game advertises itself as an "otome" (If OBM/NB really fits the label Is another whole discussion tbh), one of the biggest selling points Is that Obey Me MC Is non-gendered so everyone can play. Men/NB people are valid customers and are allowed to feel disapointed when the fandom excludes them

Like, If you don't like men/non-binary people having opinions in how the fandom treats them, just play one of the million otomes that have an exclusive female MC. Take your own advice.

⚠️Spoilers for Shinrei tantei Yakumo - the lamenting doll file 03 and the epilogue⚠️

I just read it and spontaneously wrote this.

Be careful if you haven't read it yet.

The file starts with where it left off the last time with them deciding to locate Mahiro's mother.

I kinda forgot about it since we haven't seen Isshin for a while, but this volume reminded me of how much Yakumo is influenced by Isshin. Be it the way they talk or sometimes even their mannerisms.

It's pretty much a given that they'll have to stay another night at the hotel but that would mean Haruka will have to stay in that creepy ass room again. Isshin really told Yakumo “accept the situation or sleep with her”😭😭😭

But sadly It's just like Gotou said, Their relationship label won't allow it smh

Gotou's snores and Isshin's bad posture are KILLING ME. My mom entered the room while I was having a fit of laughter I just looked crazy to her 😭

Isshin is so chill he doesn't care if you try to make him look bad. Rather his hilarious responses made Gotou look silly for complaining. Poor Gotou-san. Maybe I should learn from him... Unbotherement sure is powerful~

Anyways I guess that means Yakumo is the only one who sleeps normally hahaha

Just like I expected, Mahiro's death is weighing Hiromi down. kinda knew it from file 02, but hearing the details from Masae made me want to cry. No parent should ever go through this.

And so they split into two teams: team Gotou and Yakumo. and team Haruka and Isshin. All I'll say is that the latter team sure is a good match.

And then we have Gotou-san who not only has to put up with Yakumo's comments but also got a Salary cut too!! He suffered too much this trip. Imagine wanting to skip work only to get dragged all the way to a whole different prefecture. Still kinda his fault for ignoring Ishii smh.

Speaking of Ishii I'm happy he and Makoto were mentioned even though they didn't make an appearance. Isshin's mere presence made up for any other character's disappearance. Kaminaga-sensei is a genius for mentioning Eishin too. I think references like that will increase in the complete version. Knowing the future and the direction of your work sure makes a big difference. It was really interesting knowing that Eishin was the one taking care of Nao when Isshin's not around. Nao must really miss Isshin even if she doesn't show it on her face. I head canon afterwards Nao being overjoyed to see not only Isshin but Yakumo and Haruka too after his two-day disappearance.

The scene when that madman dragged Haruka gave me the chills. Kaminaga-sensei using TTCM as a reference sure was brutal I ended up imagining it. Haruka did her best till the very end but the situation was hopeless. She can't even resist. her mouth, legs and wrists were taped. And on top of that he had the audacity to slap her! How dare him! If that man wasn't charged with attempted murder after all this I'm throwing hands!

In the end the case was solved and we find out that Takahiro-kun was the one talking to Hiromi all along. It really broke my heart knowing that all this time he didn't even know he was dead and yet played along to try to comfort Hiromi who was mourning for her child. What a strong kid. He and Mahiro are.

The lamenting doll huh... makes sense.

In the epilogue we learn that Yakumo can't handle hot food which I thought was really cute.

Tbh his whole food preference was quite unexpected. First we learn that he has a sweet tooth (Which Haruka thought doesn't suit him at all lol) and then a similar situation to the one in the epilogue happened in vol. 7 iirc when Yakumo was (again) staring at the sake and when Haruka asked if he can't drink he stubbornally tries to only to spit it out. This man just can't be honest😂 I actually really respect men who don't drink or smoke so that's a flex~

Now some of my favorite Yakumo lines which for some reason all happen to be verbally abusing Gotou (Can't blame Haruka for laughing because c'mon how could you not?)

• “You can say that because you've never heard it yourself. Compared to Gotou-san's snores, even a train would be quieter.”

• “A member of the police stating that he'll be driving under the influence? Japan is finished.”

• “I'm saying bears can't understand the taste of wine. What if someone made up a new proverb: bears and wine.”

• "I don't want to waste any more calories than this."

• "Well, that's not surprising. A bear with damaged taste buds such as Gotou-san will never understand."

I'll also add these two because I keep remembering these two exchanges and laughing:

"I see. If you don't want to, it's fine. But please stop bringing cases to me from now on."

"This and that are a different story."

"No, it's the same thing. Ah, that's right. So that Gotou-san will stop bringing me cases, I'll be reporting to the police that you've been leaking investigation details to a civilian."

"What!? Don't joke with me! I'll get fired if you do that!" Gotou shouted in panic.

"Good then. That way I won't have to involve myself in cases that have nothing to do with me, and taxpayer money won't have to go into paying the incompetent Gotou-san; just like killing two birds with one stone."

"What did you say!?"

"Isn't that great? This way, Gotou-san can also play around to your heart's content. So it'll be more like killing three birds with one stone," said Yakumo, grinning as he looked at Gotou.

He really stabbed where it hurt. Having been commented like that, Gotou wouldn't have a way to refuse. "Fine. I'll help. Happy?"

Gotou lifted his heavy bottom up from the sofa reluctantly as he sighed. Yet Yakumo wasn't done with his counterattacks.

"Not really, it's fine even without Gotou-san helping."

"That wasn't what you said earlier!"

"Sorry about that. Could you please tell me what I should do?" Gotou asked formally while swallowing his displeasure.

"You should know if you listened to the story"

"I'm asking because I don't know."

"You should have if you paid close attention to the whole story."

"Well I don't know!"

"Is that something to be proud about? Good grief.”

Volume 11 is up next. I'm really really excited for this one because Unkai and Miyuki are one of the best antagonists I've ever read. I'll never forgive them for what they did to Yakumo but their back stories are very very well written and explains how they ended up that way. That last arc will wrap everything up. I remember reading the book description a while back but Laute's translations stopped at the time so I thought I'll never read it.

Fëanorian Week 2023, Day 1: Maedhros

I’m so late with these I’m not even fashionably late.  But better late than never (cf. Fingolfin, probably, after finally getting to Middle Earth).

To anyone who went “Hmm I wonder if the theme this year is going to be classical sculpture?”, well, congratulations, you’re right, though I don’t know how you would have guessed that.  I was originally going to do something where I based each drawing off the meaning of the name, and since “Maitimo” means “well-shaped one” the first thing that came to mind was a Greek or Renaissance statue.  But after finishing it I decided that it had been a lot of fun and I might as well do the rest the same way.  And it sort of fit into the whole Fëanorian theme since Nerdanel is a sculptor.

okay so! we don't really know much about piglins based off of how they behave in-game, and pretty much all we know is that they like gold. however, for this analysis/headcanon breakdown I'm going to list what materials they have access to in the nether w/their respective rarities, albeit in no particular order. this will likely get long, so I'll hopefully put a read more in below this spot(first time using one; if I did it wrong please lmk so I can try to fix it!!)

-Nether quartz:relatively common; present in most biomes. Likely roughly as prevalent as other hard stone within the nether, although mostly used decoratively by piglins in-game

-Blackstone:present pretty much anywhere if you're willing to dig; used in bastions so likely easy to collect and build with(and therefore likely fairly stable). However, basalt isn't really used in bastions as much as blackstone is, to the point I forgot that basalt is in fact part of bastions, so it seems as if basalt is either harder to mine, less stable, or perhaps piglins don't typically mine within basalt deltas and get their blackstone from other places

-Nether woods + other plants:Never used in piglin buildings. However, bastions often spawn in biomes with these plants, and I theorize that the plants must have a use to the piglins, because why would they build their castles near those biomes at all if they don't need them?

-Nether wart and soul sand:spawn only in housing bastions. Do piglins brew their potions here? Perhaps housing bastions are partially set up as marketplaces and, while not shown in-game, grow and produce many things for other bastion types

-Netherite:spawns rarely in bastion chests. Probably only available to the particularly rich within piglin society

Now, beyond this, I'd like to explain some of my other headcanons around this before tying it all together at the end. I believe that piglin society is split into 2 main groups:warriors and non-warriors. while warriors would likely be regarded as the most important social group(as they gather food by hunting hoglins, defend society from threats, etc) other jobs such as healers and chefs and brewers and farmers would also be necessary for the survival of their society. to tell warriors and non-warriors apart, I headcanon that warriors keep one side of their heads shaved, to make it obvious that they're willing to make sacrifices. why would that be a sacrifice you ask? well, due to the hot climate of the nether, hair would likely grow very slowly, and I'd like to tie this idea in with their culture.

I believe that, for the warrior class of piglins, hair is a sign of status and a source of pride. if a warrior loses a battle or a duel and lives, their hair is cut. if a warrior wins a battle, they continue to grow their hair out. the most formidable warriors would have hair trailing to the floor, so keep that in mind as I go over other things I think would be status symbols.

secondly, I think fabric would be real hard to make in the nether. you have to gather plant fibers like vines, and then process them so they can be used for string, and then that string has to be woven into fabric, and with all the other priorities in the nether like, I don't know, surviving in a hostile land that hates you, I doubt it'd be a priority, and therefore it'd be expensive. long flowing clothes like capes and dresses wouldn't exactly be cheap, and neither would they be effective because the nether is hot as hell, so most clothes of that size would have to be made of thin fabric which I'm pretty sure would be obnoxious to make out of hot-climate plants(although I personally don't really work with fiber much so correct me if I'm wrong). therefore, I think large pieces of clothing, especially if they happen to be made of just one fiber rather than both colors available, would be a sign of someone rich or generally well-off

thirdly, I'd like to consider the wither. I imagine spawning a wither would be one of if not *the* greatest crime for them, and killing one the greatest deed. I like to think that anyone who manages to slay a wither would receive some kind of specialized jewelry to hold the nether star, and likely would be celebrated as a hero.

beyond that I also think that richer folks would probably be able to afford higher quality materials. poorer piglins would likely have more materials like nether quartz or bone to work with for tools, armor, accessories, and other items, whereas richer piglins would favor gold and blackstone and possibly even netherite or diamond for the richest elites. I think harder materials like bone, stone, or diamond and netherite would be preferred for tools or things like canes and crutches for the disabled. softer materials like quartz and gold would moreso be used for jewelry and decoration.

in conclusion, I think that piglin society would be a lot more interesting than we give it credit for, and while most of this doesn't technically have in-game evidence I also wrote most of this lore with some fragment of in-game detail to back it up. if y'all have any questions I'd be delighted to answer and if y'all have anything to add on I'd love to hear about it. or even if y'all have your own lore for little bits of minecraft, I'd love to know what y'all's thoughts are!!

So I've committed to watching all the Star Trek shows for the first time (besides maybe a handful of episodes out of context over the years due to my dad and younger brother being huge fans) and after watching the newer stuff (Discovery, Lower Decks, and Strange New Worlds) I'm finally on TOS. I'm probably gonna watch all the movies too but haven't decided yet. I know I'll at least watch a few.

What I've seen up to this point has already been enough to turn me into a fan and so far I'm enjoying TOS much more than I expected to. This makes me very excited to see how I'll feel about the rest of the older/original stuff that fans love so much.

My younger brother has been sooo happy that I like it haha. He's super excited for me to get to DS9 which is his favorite and he thinks it'll be mine too so I'm really looking forward to it :)
