Hey @starry-saturn-nights, hope you don't mind me using this chance to show off my ridiculous processes! (also, thank you so much for the compliment I'm honored aaaa)

So, I'll preface this by saying the first step is having drawn a lot of the canon Ultras and possibly having stared at the official suits too much. (It isn't my fault, they're extremely pretty and I follow a lot of suit photographers on Bluesky.) After a while you start to get an instinctive feel for common patterns and motifs, which helps with filling empty design space in a way that feels authentic, ya dig? Anyway, on to the main event --

MOODBOARDING. I should add that this is more involved than my normal moodboarding; for Alfia, for example, I just had a collection of Seven and Zero pictures without any detailed study or notes and went off Vibes. Taiga as a character has got more of a focus on family, though, so I wanted to trace design motifs back through the family tree a little more. As you can see, Taro himself barely got anything from his own dad, and Taiga doesn't have that much Taro in him... seems maternal traits might be more dominant than paternal, for Ultras? 🤔

Anyway, for a completely unrelated Ultra OC / Oritra, you'll want to be thinking about what IRL time period you want them to fit in with (Showa-era Ultras look very different to your modern Reiwa Ultra!), as well as where you want them to be from in-universe, and collect references from as many canon ultras as match those guidelines to get an idea of what design elements are common, and what elements you like enough to steal shamelessly. After that... just figure out the best way to keep your moodboard visible, and play around with the design 'til you like it! Easy! until it's time to figure out how the head looks from different angles and you cry. but i digress

I'm marinating the zero fic but the sadness is getting to me

If it helps at all, I promise I won't be neglecting the "comfort" side of "hurt/comfort." There will be a strong light at the end of this tunnel. (I'm not the sort who can bring themself to write pure tragedy. With fiction, if there's no hope, there's no *point,* for me.)

That said, there's one last rough patch ahead. (Obviously enough, per canon.) One last hammer strike, and then we can pick up the shattered pieces and make a mosaic. I hope you'll stick through to see it. 💖
