What Kind of Friendships do you have ??

1. A friendship based on pleasure is when two individuals discover they share common interests. This in turn results in a greater pleasure for both parties. This is because they would never achieve this greater pleasure if they were acting alone. This type of friendship should be the one that last the longest, or as long as the two people continue to share a common interest. This in a sense contradicts the saying "opposites attract". Many of us tend to surround ourselves with individuals who are similar to ourselves. When this common interest fades, so does the friendship. 

2. A friendship grounded on utility, is a friendship based on benefits. This friendship is more like a business. You only maintain this friendship because of the benefits involved. The benefits can vary, such as emotional support, money, security, protection, success, etc. This type of friendship is not one that contains loyalty or trust. It only last as long as the benefits are present. This kind of friendship is stressful because each person is in it for personal gain. You are consistently watching your back because you don't want to be taking advantage of by the other person. Which goes with the saying " do not mix business and pleasure" literally.

3. A friendship for the good, is a friendship based on bringing the best out in each other. In this friendship neither the utility or pleasure exist. This is the friendship that most people are looking for. When you sit down to talk with someone, you want their advice. The advice they give you, should bring out the best in you. You want a friend that is going to pick you up, and not keep you down. Aristotle pointed out that this kind of friendship you can only have with a very small amount of people. This is because this type of friendship last forever.

The Unknown
