Alright, I need to talk about Fred Colon. I already put this in my discord group, but I don't see much of him on tumblr.
Was it hard for Fred seeing Vimes turn to alcohol? Did Fred feel responsible? He always said that nothing couldn't be solved by a quick pint. Did he buy him his first bear huggers as a birthday gift? He knows Sam doesn't have a dad. And every boy becoming a man should share a beer with his elders. Why it might as well be a law. Then he starts seeing Vimes take to it like his old man. He is proud at first how the boy handles a drink, but then May 25th rolls around, and Sgt. Vimes is in the gutter. He is still a hell of a watchman, but once he clocks out, he clocks into drinking.
Fred thinks it isn't a real problem he doesn't do it on shift, which is a rare thing in itself. But Fred isn't as thick in the head as he is in the waist. He tries talking to Sam, telling him he won't find a woman worth it the way he is going. Vimes just kisses the bottle and tells him he already found a petite little brunette that keeps him warm while he sleeps. And it burns because Fred used to say whiskey is a woman who robs you of your sense, but at least she keeps you warm.
Fred sees Sam turn to Vimes, and it always turns his gut and makes even him pause about eating a free meal. He writes a note that night to his wife, and she tells him he worries too much. Fred knows you lead by example, so he stops drinking. He lasts half a night, which means Nobby lost the pot. He tried, but he began to sweat more so then usually and began to shake. He knew Vimes had been eyeballing him the whole time, maybe even a Nostril, and that had got Fred to 2 am. He hadn't even meant to drink he just reflexively took the beer the bartender had ready for him and took a sip. He had needed it. Vimes joined him.

god i want. an au where it dosn't work. where it's just arr g'raha who's woken up, and he doesn't have all these memories and all these people keep looking at him like they're mourning someone. the world has changed and time has changed and all the people he knows have changed, but he hasn't changed, he was just sleeping, just sleeping, and the world nearly ended several times and apparently he helped prevent yet another end but he has no memory of this. they want him to join the scions. he does not know these people. (he barely knows the warrior of light, now, but did he ever truly know them in the first place?) his little sister is alive and well. she looks at him like a ghost. she's changed, and she's older than him now. he acts bratty and loud and brash to cover up the fact that he does not know anything it seems, and he is tired but he was sleeping for so long, so how could he be tired?
he doesn't know these people. they seem to know him. he wonders if he'd killed someone, when it was him and not that exarch who woke up. he wonders if it should have been him who was "killed" in that way, if it is him that lives and not that man who had known and become friends with all these figures from legend. he wonders if he'll always be fated to be a historian one step back from everything, because he simply cannot be a hero.

Today I was thinking about Spider getting taken in by the Sully's, getting adopted, feeling like he got everything he ever wanted and was as happy as he could be but still feeling like. It's not enough. Like he was missing time, like he's always making up for missed time with them. He can't ever have those years without them back, and no amount of time forward will make up for the past. No one else gets it, why sometimes he'd just rather stay home and weave baskets with Neytiri and Tuk, or just follow Jake around when he goes to boring meetings, instead or going out and having fun with his friends. Emotionally he's years behind.
The person who is the closest to getting it is Tuk. Sometimes Tuk just wants to sit in someone's lap while she plays, because she's little and sometimes she needs to be cuddled by her mom. Some days Spider literally can't let one of them out of his sight or something catastrophic will happen. Emotionally he needs a cuddle.

I'm so surprised that I haven't seen more people in the lost fandom talk about The New Man in Charge. I just recently found out it existed and it's??? incredible??? like yes it's a pretty unnecessary wrap up that's pointed at the fans complaining about unanswered mysteries. but it also. finally gives some degree of payoff to walt's character? and serves as a wonderful capstone to ben's character development? I'm not gonna lie
"we all have friends...even me"
and
"because you're special. and i bet nobody's told you that in a very long time"
actually. got to me a little

I have been waiting with bated breath but the end is nigh so it's time to get our final predictions in folks.
.
.
.
And I don't know.... I've had SO many predictions throughout this entire series and here we are, at end game, and I have no clue. Because Horikoshi is so talented at turning things where I least expect. Don't believe me?
Did you see "Kacchan of the Bakugos" live on world wide television happening?
Did you see "cutest girl in the world" happening?
Did you see "spend the rest of our lives together" happening?
(Spoiler Alert: There are so. many. more!)
Like we anticipated a lot of things as a fandom but then he would also smack us in the face with scenes straight out of our favorite fanfics. And why? Why did he do that? Why did he REUSE the line from School Briefs about Katsuki's relationship with girls in the final chapters of the manga? He didn't have to do that. He didn't have to do any of this!
Those were choices. Choices he actively made. Choices Shonen Jump let be published. Choices Bones is now animating. And it's because of those choices and that follow through that I'm so unsure now.
This all feels too pointed... Too intentional for there to not be a final bkdk scene/ending. So why the hesitation in predicting a bkdk ending?
Because. This ending isn't about the fandom. This ending isn't about "who's ship wins". And if you think that's all that's on the line here, then I'm sorry. I'm truly sorry, cause you missed it. You missed the point of this series and what bkdk as a canon couple would actually mean in the real world 2024.
MHA is one of the top animes in the world. Check the numbers. Not Japan. Not American. The world! Do you understand what it would mean to have a canon gay couple as leads in a mainstream Shonen anime? How many people that would reach?
Representation in media matters. Representation in MAINSTREAM media MATTERS. God, I could do a whole seminar on this topic but the point HERE being: a canon gay superhero couple in a top Shonen anime would have a massive effect on a global scale. And how many need to see that? How many people could that help? How many people could it change?
And though Horikoshi has shown a heavy leaning towards a bkdk end game, that doesn't mean he has to, or even can, follow through on it. Unfortunately, it's not up to JUST him. Shonen Jump could tank it. Bones could tank it! Do you get it yet? It's going to take A LOT for this to happen. And frankly my heart is having a hard time with it...
Because we've seen creators fight this fight before. The Legend of Korra. SheRa. Both always intended to have queer leads. But had to fight TOOTH AND NAIL with everything they had just to get a final closing scene.
We've also seen queer baiters. So many have pointed out the similarities to how Naruto felt. And because of the nature of the series' mangaka, we will never know what the truth is on that matter.
We've felt shunted by the system. We've felt laughed at for having hope to see a love like ours up on that screen.
But now we have hope again. And there /is/ a chance. There is a really real chance right now- that we could actually get it...
And that makes my chest tight.

I think the reason I LOVE part two so much, and have way way less complaints than others, is I’m a Penelope fan before a Polin fan. And part two was Penelope and Lady Whistledown’s moment. I think she was brave in part 1, but she was powerful in part 2 (as well as still being brave). Seeing her stand up to Colin was amazing, her speeches to him were top notch (especially after the wedding breakfast when she said he wouldn’t understand because he’s not a woman with little power in society).
Her with Portia and her family was amazing, and added such a nice depth to part two. Portia first wanted to support her daughter after Colin talking (yelling) to her and the stuff with Dungas, but it turned to real conversation and real respect. I believe Penelope publicly named herself as Whistledown to help her mother keep the estate first, because Cressida ended up leaving anyway. And she could’ve found a way forward with Colin without everyone knowing. Also her finding her sisters ball is beautiful, very selfless and kind. I think I’m much more happy to see her birth the Featherington heir after all the growth with her family. I didn’t really expect it to occur, and it was so beautiful.
I am so glad she got to show her absolute genius in sorting out the Queen/ Whistledown drama. When she tells Colin about Cressida knowing and he speaks over her and she’s trying to get a word in, I wanted her to own her name, power and do something for herself. I was so happy to see it happen.

can the "finding your art style" discussion finally end because it does nothing but feeds people's insecurity and obsession with finding something... that they already have?
i've been there, trust me. growing up i was obsessed with "finding" my own art style. but you know what it only did? it made me almost quit drawing altogether on many occasions when in reality i already had one.
an art style is how you interpret everything around you through the act of creation. it's how you draw right now. it's how you place the lines. your line-weight. it's how you draw the eyes. it's how you shade.
an art style grows with you. it grows with your improvement. of course you can explore and bump it up by testing bits and pieces from art you love. but you don't add those bits to nothing. you add to what you already have, to the art style you already have. it's how you draw.
