funny story while I wrap of a fic to post tomorrow

Dani is my Chaos Tav and when I say the girl loves a heist the girl LOVES a heist

Idk if you know but behind the Counting House in the city there are some docks patrolled by guards with loads of treasure on the docks and in ships and so on

Well such a treasure trove is a siren call to poor Dani, who can’t look at a pile of jewelry without getting the itch to go all grabby hands

So, of course, she plans a heist

And by heist I mean Gale and Karlach watch from a safe distance while Dani and Astarion cast Greater Invisibility on themselves and sneak around, picking locks or picking up whole chests and generally stealing anything that looks remotely valuable

The team collectively only ended up killing one guard, the one that was posted at the far side of the docks near a watch tower (it was kind of an accident) and after that they tried to throw the body into the water to get rid of the evidence but failed (the game prevented me for some reason) so Gale and Karlach were awkwardly in charge of babysitting a dead body for a while

But we kept everyone else alive! Because they’re good(?) people.

Anyways Dani and Astarion end up in…well, a bit of a tight bind. They each have about 2 turns left on their invisibility spells and there’s no way they’re going to make it back to safety without alerting the guards

Dani takes a chance. She goes to a spot where she thinks she’ll be safe enough to recast invisibility so she can run back to her boyfriend and Karlach. Meanwhile Astarion makes it over to a beach, because they’d heard tell of buried treasure there

Dani gets spotted?? And suddenly it’s fighty fight time but she manages to turn invisible so she just skeddadles. Pockets jingling with jewelry and coin, I imagine, so idk how she was being sneaky about it. But the combat ended so that was nice.

Astarion, meanwhile, attempts to dig, only to have the dig action break his invisibility, so (after a reload, there were several reloads lol) he casts fog cloud to hide himself so he can dig up the treasure in peace

Y’all. This game is so silly. Not a single guard was like “huh weird that there’s this random FOG CLOUD that appeared, almost like magic? And didn’t we just see a blue girl with horns a second ago? Whatever just a normal day in Baldur’s Gate” like…sir??

Anyway Astarion dug up the treasure (which wasn’t even worth the hassle tbh, like it was low low level loot) and then…oh no. I’m out of invisibility potions and Astarion can’t cast invisibility on himself again. I don’t have any scrolls. I’d have to get Dani over there! What do I do??

Well. It’s a silly silly game, so my solution? We just fast traveled to a waypoint.

This heist literally consisted of two goobers invisibly picking locks and stealing chests, getting spotted, casting fog cloud, and then teleporting away.

So it was a success basically lol

Oh yeah and they would occasionally send chests to Karlach when they got over-encumbered by, you know, literal metal chests so while Gale and Karlach are watching this circus scene play out, I just imagine there are just chests appearing nearby one at a time

and idk maybe Gale is rethinking having fallen in love with Dani or maybe he’s just impressed who knows

so easily him collecting the model vale bikes the first two years he was racing in motogp (mat oxley asked him about it at feb testing in 2015 and marc was still collecting them !!!) i truly think about it all the time it’s so insane to me. collecting merchandise of your friend coworker and sporting idol while you are doing your best to win against him… while being hailed as the next version of him (BY HIM EVEN !). while your relationship is deteriorating… holding that kind of love in your heart even when he throws you to the mercy of the media. even as he denies that you were ever his fan. even AFTER all that he still keeps them in a BOX somewhere along with all the other things he loved when he was young…

I’m about to set my clothes on fire so midnight headcanon:

When Yor and Yuri were young sometimes Yor would have to head out for a midnight job and Yuri would try to follow her so in order to get him to stop she have a big poster of Donovan Desmond and would put it up by the front door so anytime he went into the living room it would stare at him and he would run back into his room.

For some ungodly reason their father told them that the Desmonds eat people and they’re skin walkers so Yor embellished that already insane story and told Yuri that now that a Desmond is prime minister they have hunters all around looking for young kids to serve up to him and his skin walker family.

This coincides with the rumor that Donovan plotted to cause the train crash that killed the prime minister but also their parents (not on purpose) so Yor told him that after their parents died Donovan and his family ate them and they’re looking for them next.

So of course now Yuri is irrationally afraid of Donovan and actually is afraid to meet. His team found out he was afraid of him and decided to replace all the photos of Yor with photos of Donovan and when he saw them he literally had a panic attack and started hyperventilating and that’s how everyone found out Yuri has a genuine phobia of Donovan

(In case you don’t get it uh it’s directly related to unsolved trauma about his parents death. Obviously telling a 7 year old their parents got eaten is not a good idea but you know. Check tags for more info)

Going buckwild at the way Hilda The Series portrays adulthood and loneliness. Kaisa has no one to go to to ask for help getting the due book back, even though all it would take was someone she could minimally ask to knock on an elderly lady’s door and ask for a favour; she’s in the library after hours, is shown to have no allies aside from the woman who raised her and who she lost contact with. Johanna is only ever seen working or caring for Hilda, and her lack of a life aside from those two activities is pointed out by her own daughter when she thinks that this is going so far as to affect their relationship. The bell keeper lives alone in a small cabin on the edge of town, barely within city limits and away from everyone, a house barely even inhabitable and clearly only a place to sleep and eat. He works a solitary job and he’s the only one in the town still working it, meaning he’s probably overworked and forced to pull inhumanly long shifts. Victoria hyperfocused so hard on her projects that whatever friends she had before - and she must have had some from college time at least - lost contact with her, and she never made any other connections in Trolberg, anything that would tie her to the city and it’s inhabitants and make it so it wasn’t worth it to live by herself at the top of a hill. Even when that was over, she still chose to isolate herself somewhere abandoned and keep what was essentially another machine she’d built as her source of company, something she could understand and control instead of an unpredictable human being. Gerda works a job she likes but is shown to be disregarded by the person she works the most around, her abilities and intellect thrown aside for the good of someone she has to bear because of a hierarchy she was forced to accept in order to keep working. She’s appreciated by the town, but other than the main characters, we don’t see anyone paying her any mind when they don’t need something from her.

Meanwhile no kid has ever been alone in Trolberg. The mean kids are a group, the good kids are a group, even the gloomy teenage girls are a group. One of nightmare inducing entities, but a group nonetheless. All children in that world seem to operate on a ‘no man left behind’ code, looking out for each other even if they aren’t exactly fans of one another, helping even grown ups without asking why and working together. And this logic seems to extend to the adults who work around children too; especially the Raven Leader, who we see that through the children works as a vital part of the community and a way through which it comes together.

This isn’t very articulate but do you see the point? Do you see how clever that is? That a show about growing up has these themes? You can be magical, kind, strong, intelligent, competent, but none of that will make you truly happy if you don’t keep the most important thing from childhood? If you don’t keep your friendships, your bonds, something to tie you down to your reality and your community? The adults in the show all made their choices, and it’s okay to want to be alone, we all need it and some more than others (this is coming from someone who needs it a lot), but isolating yourself completely is the one thing that will make growing pains truly painful. I’m just so emotional over it. It’s so subtle and so clever considering the whole Mountain King plot that Hilda is willing to change species because she feels detached from her main relationships and surroundings. I love this show so much.
