Look I just think that if you’ve ever loved Star Trek, Like really loved it (not just had a passing interest or casually consumed it) then it’s gonna be a part of you forever. It injects a little whimsy in you. A little thoughtfulness and curiosity and wonder. I’ll watch Star Trek and every time I do I feel like a little kid staring up at the stars holding onto the grass. I’ll watch Star Trek and every time I’m sitting out sharing a sweater with my friend as we talk about Spock and the sun starts to set. I’ll watch Star Trek and it’s the same feeling of calm awe that I get when I sit in the aquarium.

Aliens aside it’s about humanity. It’s always about humanity and trying to understand despite it all (which I think is a core tenet of humanity). And if that compels you then it’s going to stay with you. No matter if the packaging is a bit silly. Maybe even because the packaging is silly.

Also once you love Spock I don’t think you can stop

I’m sorry I didn’t listen to you guys (the handful of people who talk about it) sooner it was so amazing… to anyone who hasn’t watched it just bc “it’s for kids” I’m begging u to give it a shot it genuinely has the most beautiful and emotional story and most engaging main characters out of any modern trek I’ve seen so far.

Lesbian!Ziyal transing Garak’s gender is absolutely peak. Ziyal’s logic leap of “am I bi? No! Garak’s actually a woman!” is amazing

I can genuinely see Ziyal cracking Garak’s egg without even intending to do so tbh. Like, she just filters her attraction to Garak through the lense of only being attracted to women and starts seeing Garak as a woman in her brain subconsciously without really thinking about it at all.

She buys them matching dresses because she thinks they’ll be cute. She offers to paint Garak’s claws to match hers. She asks if Garak wants to accompany her and Kira on a girls' night. She asks Garak why she keeps her hair so short and if she’s considered growing it out.

And Garak spends most of this thinking that Ziyal is seeing her as like, a gay best friend sort of thing, but she’s not gonna object or call attention to it because then maybe Ziyal will stop and honestly, Garak really is enjoying being pampered and prettied up and given makeup and invited to a girls only sauna session—

It takes Ziyal several months to realise what she’s been doing, but by then, everyone else on the station is also calling Garak and a woman, and Garak is correcting exactly no one on this, so she decides all is well that ends well, right?

(Kira is skeptical at first, but then thinks about how something like this would be considered shameful on Cardassia, and upon concluding that Garak must be entirely sincere about all this, she starts taking personal responsibility for intimidating anyone who questions Garak’s gender from then on. She may or may not end up nearly breaking Dukat’s arm over this.)

The thing about me is I’m a fan of overly complicated long running tv shows or narratives like dr who or Star Trek or supernatural or procedural dramas or soap operas or telenovelas. Bc that’s what I grew up on. If you want a fandom opinion of which ship is better or what side to take in a fight my answer will be what’s the most dramatic? What’s the most satisfying story? Yeah but what if the show went another few seasons and it was a slow burn with character development in other relationships?

Uhura shutting down the obnoxious trooper for being sarcastic about how outmoded the Enterprise appears was so satisfying. The Enterprise is built to withstand all the circumstances of being out in the fringes of space, where replacement parts might not always be readily available, and the parts themselves need to survive not only potential attacks/mishaps, but the speed at which the Enterprise travels can also have an adverse effect on their various apparatuses especially if they drop out of warp really abruptly. Everything needs to be something they can easily access, fix, or replace, so there’s no point in making things super sleek and fancy because it needs to last.
