Chappell Roan, a lesbian, went on a national broadcast tonight and performed a song about dating a closeted woman who refuses to acknowledge their relationship and denies the fact that she’s a lesbian. Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined that happening but here we are and it’s amazing.

As a lesbian woman, to have an artist go out and be so entirely herself in every way, to be so proud of her own sexuality and to perform a song like this and have it be broadcasted to millions of people…it makes me so emotional. All I have ever wanted as a queer woman is to have this sort of unabashed representation and we’re finally getting it in such an incredible way. What an era we are living in and all I can say is long may it continue and I am so proud to be a Chappell Roan fan.

“James?” Regulus asks nervously.

“Yes, love?”

“Do you… would you… I wanted…” Regulus fumbles over his words.

“Reg?” James puts his hand on Regulus’ bouncing knee and Regulus takes a deep breath.

“I didn’t know if maybe… if you wanted to do something… special on Friday?” Regulus forces the question out, trying not to sound as stupid as he feels.

“Oh…err… sure, if you want.” James looks a little confused. “Any particular reason you want to do something Friday?” James asks, and now Regulus feels really stupid.

This is Regulus’ longest relationship. He’s never made it to six months, and he didn’t know what to expect. Maybe six months isn’t as important as he thought. But it feels important to Regulus, and he just wanted to do a nice dinner or something. But now he feels stupid for even bringing it up.

“Err… no… erm…” Regulus shakes his head and stands up from the couch. “Never mind.” He mumbles and starts to walk away.

James catches his wrist and pulls him back down beside him.

“Hey, no. I just didn’t know if there was a reason you wanted to do something Friday?” James asks again.

“No. It’s stupid. Never mind.” Regulus tries to stand up again but of course, James doesn’t let him get far, pulling him even closer this time.

“We can definitely do something Friday.” James tells him, rubbing circles on the back of Regulus’ hands. “For our anniversary, right?” James asks.

Regulus shrugs pathetically, looking down at his lap. James lifts a hand to Regulus’ chin and tilts his head up.

“I was only curious if there was a reason you wanted to celebrate on Friday, that’s all.” James says sweetly.

“Erm… because it’s our anniversary?” Regulus says, confused because didn’t they just establish that?

“Our anniversary’s on Saturday.” James says simply.

“No. It’s Friday.” Regulus corrects him.

“No. It’s Saturday.” James says with a little chuckle.

“James, you asked me out on the 8th.” Regulus tells him.

“Yeah… but you didn’t say ‘yes’ until the 9th.”

“I… oh.” Is all Regulus can manage to say.

“Now,” James says and pulls Regulus onto his lap. “I have some surprises planned for Saturday, but we can absolutely celebrate on Friday also.”

“No. That’s stupid.” Regulus mumbles as he buries himself in James’ chest, hiding his face that is probably several shades of red.

“Nope. We’re doing it!” James says excitedly. “And I’m disappointed with myself that I didn’t think of it first. So…” James starts talking about what they should do on Friday and Regulus feels so stupidly happy as he cuddles impossibly closer to James.

i vote that next year instead of reading Dracula we do a Jeeves & Wooster Book Club. those two never got the rabid tumblr shipping fandom they deserved (disqualified for the sheer technicality of being published a century too soon). we must correct this injustice

Regulus is pacing in the courtyard alternating between wringing his hands and nervously running them through his hair.

“Why are you so nervous all of a sudden?” Pandora asks him.

“I… I just… I just really don’t want to mess this up.” Regulus sighs.

“Reg, I’m pretty sure you could walk up to him and punch him in the face, and he would still say ‘yes’ to you.” Evan tells him.

“I’m pretty sure he would enjoy that. Throw away the plan, do that instead.” Barty chimes in unhelpfully and Regulus stops his pacing to glare at him.

“Not funny right now, Bartemius.” Regulus scowls.

“Well, you need to calm the fuck down, Reginald.” Barty fires back.

Regulus takes a step towards Barty, but Pandora intercepts him putting both her hands on his shoulders. She takes a deep breath and gestures for him to do the same, which he does.

“You’ll be fine. You know what you want to say. You already know that he likes you.” Regulus opens his mouth to argue but Pandora holds up her finger. “No. You do. We all know he’s going to say ‘yes’. And honestly, I think James is going to love that you asked him first.”

“Ask me what?” James walks up beside him.

Regulus freezes just staring at James and his mind goes completely blank. He opens and closes his mouth, but he’s forgotten everything he wanted to say. So instead, Regulus… punches James in the face.

James stumbles backwards, a little shocked, and brings his hand up to his cheek. Regulus stares at him completely shocked and panicked, then he takes a few quick steps to stand in front of James again.

“Oh my God! James, I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to do that. Are you okay? Fuck! Why did I do that? I am so sorry. Are you alright?” Regulus rambles rapid fire.  

“Err… yeah.” James says rubbing his cheek. “Any particular reason you needed to punch me?”

“I’m so sorry, I just got nervous and panicked. But I didn’t–”

“Nervous about what?” James cuts him off.

“I wanted to invite you to Hogsmeade. But I–”

“Are you going to punch me again?” James asks with an amused smile and Regulus closes his eyes and shakes his head, completely embarrassed. “Then, sure, I’ll go to Hogsmeade with you.” James shrugs.

“What?!” Regulus’ eyes fly open.

“I’d love to go to Hogsmeade with you.” James smiles and chuckles a little at Regulus’ stunned expression. “I’m going to go get some ice first. Do you want to walk with me?” James holds out his hand.

“Err… su-sure?” Regulus says and awkwardly takes James’ hand and walks with him to the hospital wing.
