house md so wonderful and brilliant because it is simultaneously the heaviest, darkest, most serious show about love and loss and how trauma shapes people and the most unhinged thing you'll ever experience.

the thing about the whole "male-presenting time lord" is. we've just established that the doctor is more or less nonbinary. the show has been depicting time lord society as pretty genderless since twelve's era at the earliest. the time lords' sense of superiority is based around their idea that they're /genetically/ superior - it's a species thing, not a gender thing. a 'male' time lord is going to have just as much trouble giving up power as a 'female' time lord.

and this whole thing felt especially incongruous when we've just had thirteen, a "female-presenting time lord", use her white privilege to hand the master over to the nazis! doesn't seem like she was very interested in giving up her power there.

the worst thing about it imo was that it was totally unnecessary even from a plot/technobabble point of view. it was literally established in journey's end that the doctordonna could think of things the doctor couldn't because of her human aspect. there was already a solid logical grounding for donna and rose to give up their time lord powers /because they were still part human/. but for some reason rtd decided to undercut his whole point about the doctor being genderless just to pay a very weird sort of lip service to feminism or something.

kanej is a ship that truly feels beyond words. like how do i express what they do to me. where do i even start.

after the night when everything went awry in crooked kingdom, when they were ambushed from three different directions.. the way nina describes the look shared between kaz an inej like finding the shore after a shipwreck.. there's something so unbelievably powerful and quintessentially kanej about that image. again and again we see them pull each other out of the water. i mean it's literally inej's voice or presence that brings kaz to shore when he's drowning, both in water and in bodies. it's also kaz who offers inej a not only a ship to go out onto the sea, but also a dock at his land to return to, both physically at the end and metaphorically before the story even starts. they are each other's shore.

and the way kaz has learned solid land to be a weakness, as a person represented by a city on stilts on marshes and canals, the way he sees it not just for himself facing inej, but the way he tries to remove the land that he is from inej, too? the way he pulls back to the horizon to save her in theory, but she just keeps swimming toward him because she's not as good as he believes, and he's not as bad. and what they are is helpless when it comes to each other.

and god the opposition between that helplessness and the demons they carry. alexa play demons by imagine dragons. they may fall together like water down a hill, but once they are together, it takes so much will and strength and love and determination to climb up onto the surf. and i could write essays about the bathroom bandage scene alone, but the distinction between kaz's black gloves and inej's black hair, the way one looks like a dead animal and the other looks like an inkspill, a gilded icon, something alive that draws attention and breath. and the naked hands between them.. that image is exactly the point. inej to kaz is life, just as he is to her, but neither of them is going to ask the other to pretend the deep sea death they were saved from stopped existing, they'll just offer land for them to swim to.

and every single bit of that holds an incredible amount of weight in my heart. i don't know how anyone could not become obsessed with them.

Penelope who wakes up every morning to kiss the bundle of pillows beside her because that's where he would've been if he was there. Penelope who glances over at Telemachus' cradle, no doubt something Odysseus carved himself, while she keeps record of how much he'd grown. Penelope who talks about her day to her imagined Odysseus, always at her side. Penelope who laughs at the quips he's not there to make, but knows he would. Penelope who talks the mirror through her outfit, because Odysseus would've been standing right there behind her. Penelope who's self aware enough to know that Odysseus is not there, but chooses to leave space at the table for him anyways. Penelope who doesn't take up the whole olive bed at night, even when Telemachus has a nightmare and comes to sleep next to her. Penelope who complains to her wedding ring as she adjusts her veil when the suitors start to arrive. Penelope who tells Telemachus everything Odysseus would have wanted to, in his stead. Penelope who tells herself she loves him every moment she can get to herself. Penelope who asks her beloved husband not to cry, while in tears herself. Penelope who asks nobody in particular for feedback on the shroud, knowing she'll undo it all later. Penelope who discusses The Challenge with him in detail before even thinking of announcing it.

I went through and relistened to the saga with no visuals, and in particular the song Six Hundred Strike I visualized something different happening then what happens in animations during the stream. In terms of the wind bag, I like the idea it is used to blow away the layers of Poseidons water shell- to leave just him in the middle. And then the 600 Strike bit- perhaps the ghosts of all his crew appear and each get their own strike at Poseidon, with Odysseus dealing the last one before Poseidon starts singing again?

yeah i actually reaaallly like how fast they're making mark and eve rush into their relationship. also how they're making mark the pushy one. he's just a really impulsive guy, and eve has been starved for affection her whole life so of course she initally gets wrapped up in the passion and romance of it all. they're making it seem really cute and just "haha these crazy kids amiright? 🥰" right now, but it's planting some strong, dramatic seeds for the future
