like i think the obvious interpretation of 'there's no recovering from that kind of devotion' in a twojamie context is. it's about jamie, right. it's about the way that the war games and being sent home and having to learnt to live without the memory of the doctor leaves him broken. it works, it hits hard, it hurts.

but................ god, can you read it from the doctor's perspective as well. because he never, ever does recover. he refuses to take his human companions to gallifrey, even if it means leaving them behind. he namedrops jamie even lifetimes later. and he keeps on trying to be the person that jamie wanted him to be, the person that jamie believed he was, because he was so devoted to jamie that it made him want to be a better person.

When a creature with the ability to see through time gives Jamie a glimpse of what's coming for him and the Doctor, he's faced with an impossible choice - to leave the Doctor, or lose him.
