i’ve realised recently that my morals regarding the buffy reboot are actually extremely compromised. i think it’s the WORST idea on planet earth i hate it it never should’ve even been a conversation to begin with BUT

cordy and angel are possibly the two most obvious characters to bring back. angel’s ideal ending is to be shanshu’d (become human), so bringing back david b wouldn’t be difficult and would be in line with smg’s love for the character. and cordy was sidelined and fucked over by joss, so a new buffyverse project where he’s not involved would be the PERFECT opportunity to bring charisma back on board and repair the character’s legacy, maybe making her a spiritual guide or smth similar.

what i’m saying is unless smg decides to pull some bullshit and bring back bangel then we COULD get cangel endgame, or at least fun cameos / happy endings for them both. in which case i will start looking like this:

I am once again thinking about how lake’s journey in infinity train is such an utterly perfect encapsulation of the trans experience and how it genuinely struck me to my core the first time I watched it and has affected me in such a profound way that just thinking about it makes me want to fall to my knees in the middle of fucking tescos

FUCK YES oh dude i could talk about this for hours!!!

for starters, it’s just the language around them and the way they talk about themself. separating themself CONSTANTLY from tulip, describing her as someone they used to know and had to separate themself from to gain independence. the name thing; giving themself a sort of placeholder name (“that’s not my name, I’m just letting you call me that”) with enough of a link to their old name (tulip -> mirror tulip -> mt) that it doesn’t feel like fully changing their identity - I did this! my deadname started with K so I started calling myself K before I fully socially transitioned, I think a lot of trans people do smth similar in the early stages.

then the obvious mtf / nonbinary imagery - shaving their head, changing their clothes, etc. getting unnecessarily mad at the name “chrome girl”, or any name anyone chooses to give them (“you can’t just go around deciding names for people! that’s their choice!”). being ostracised and punished by society for their choice to simply be their own person and do their own thing; not being defined by boxes, wanting to figure out who they are on their own. their desperateness to get a number, to be seen as a real person with just as much humanity and merit as any of the train’s real-world passengers. doors open to jesse and tulip are closed to lake, an allegory we make for trans people’s medical and social struggles in real life made literal by the doors in the show. not just the passengers and the mirror police, but the train itself doesn’t see lake as a real person. we live in a society etc etc you get it

and the mirror theme. obviously dysphoria is heavily linked to how you look and self image, so having a character who literally has to cover up mirrors everywhere they go, and therefore can’t look at their own reflection, hits hard. they are tulip’s reflection, but tulip is also theirs: they literally spend the show physically and emotionally running away from their own reflection. RELATABLE.

and their ending. finally free of the societal expectations / laws of the mirror world, not having to worry about the mirror police jumping out at them, they are able to look at themself not in a mirror, but a natural (read: REAL, “I am a real person”) source of reflection. the lake. they look at their own reflection, they’re happy with what they see, and they finally name themself, lake. ugh it just makes me sob every time

also this may the place to plug the edit I made of them bc 1, I’m super proud of it and 2, I think it makes these themes really clear, because I had them in mind while making it. probably should’ve made this its own post and not a reblog but oh well, thanks for giving me an excuse to talk about this!!!! :3
