In grease monkey, there was a notable occasion where Wukong's fears were, in fact, confirmed, and the celestial soldiers did come knocking shortly after New Years. He barely escaped being caught due to a lucky cave in right as a certain Celestial Warrior known to have been credited with his capture hadmanaged to catch up thanks to a very good doggo tracking his scent into a crack in the wall

After New Years, ALL of the Three Realms want to know where Sun Wukong is at. Heaven especially.

Erlang's motivations are mainly ones of worry - wanting to know why the Monkey King has fled the public eye for so long.

So the events of "Minor Scale" become a bit of a cat-and-mouse chase of Wukong shrinking down to hide from Erlang and Xiaotian Quan. It is in the chase that MK gets lost and encounters a strange little girl...
