outsiders comics in the 80s would either be like "clone of hitler is cared for by a young jewish child in a strangely gutwrenching story where neither of them talk save for the terrified screams of the girl when the hitler clone pulls out a gun only for it to be revealed he killed himself out of guilt for his actions in his first life, which purposes that everyone has the potential to change no matter how evil" OR it be "the gang has fun on a cruise and then fights a squid :)" with zero inbetween

It's become extremely obvious over the past 15 months that the only reason much of the Western world ever basically agreed that the Holocaust was bad and was willing to teach about it is because for a brief period of time, Jews and gentiles in most of Europe + America had a common enemy in the Nazis. But this acknowledgement of Nazi antisemitism was only ever the same kind of acknowledgement of antisemitism that we get right now, where people are only willing to acknowledge the antisemitism of the people they already had a completely separate reason to dislike or fear. Antisemitism in this worldview is just a tool, a secondary accusation one can lodge at someone who is already for different reasons an enemy. It is never acknowledged as a form of bigotry in and of itself, that exists on its own and not as a follow up to another "more serious" form of oppression or bigotry against gentiles.
Obviously any Holocaust education we do get in Europe and the US has very much been the result efforts by Jews and our allies in a practical sense, but it is undeniable that there was a brief 70 or so year period where the white Western consciousness found it valuable (or at least politically convenient) to recognize antisemitism as wrong and the Holocaust as horrific. As true, original-brand Nazism fades, though, we see opposition to antisemitism and the Holocaust becoming less and less valuable to the white Western identity, as actual threat of Nazi occupation fades to historical memory. Newer, rebranded neo-Nazis and leftist Hamas supporters pose little to no threat to white Western gentiles. And thus, we see now not only a growing acceptance of antisemitism, but also a growing hostility towards the idea that we should study or condemn the Holocaust as anything particularly terrible. The Holocaust no longer represents a way for gentiles to additionally condemn an ideology that also threatened them, that also killed their families, that also resulted in their own countries and communities being occupied or destroyed by foreign fascist governments. It no longer represents to them an ideology that is in any way a threat to their own safety or way of life.
This is why we see such a massive rise in Holocaust denial among Gen Z, and, even more broadly than overt Holocaust denial, the rejection of the idea that the Holocaust should be particularly studied or condemned. More and more, we see people "questioning" the "propaganda" of The Jews Crying Victim All The Time, we see young people wondering why they are so cruelly forced to acknowledge on very rare occasion the suffering that the Jewish people went through in their own homes and towns. Often this is framed not only as intellectual bravery but moral bravery, as if this new generation rejecting Holocaust education is somehow fighting back against the unfair valuing of Jewish tragedy above gentile tragedy. What they don't understand, of course, and what many Jews up until now didn't understand either, is that no one ever valued the Holocaust because it WAS a uniquely horrific event in history, because it WAS the first and only industrialized genocide that gassed millions to death on a scale we can only pray the world will never see again, because it WAS only 70 years ago and is still a living part of the history of many Western countries. No. The Holocaust was only ever given the acknowledgement it was because it represented, at one time, an ideological threat that also included gentiles, though less overtly than it targeted Jews.
That ideological threat against Jews has not gone anywhere, and is in fact is seeing a new glory day dawning with the rise of fascism worldwide and the normalization/glorification of antisemitism on the left. But this new form of antisemitic hatred, be it neo-Nazism or support for Hamas, does not represent a threat to white Western gentiles, their way of life, or the integrity of their governments. And so we as we see the decoupling of the Holocaust from something that also incidentally threatens gentiles, we see standing against the Holocaust and antisemitism as a symbol of white Western identity disappearing as fast as it came.
#gingerswagfreckles#antisemitism#leftist antisemitism#jumblr#jewblr#holocaust#the holocaust#the shoah#shoah#shoah mention#im scared to tag this nazism bc i know the whole nazism tag is just Jews Are The Real Nazis rn#so i wont#this is not a comprehensive discussion on this subject obviously#i could write a book on this topic tbh#just how the holocaust is framed in and used politically in differnet parts of the world for different reasons#that have nothing to do with jews or jewish genocide#and how all that is changing rn#but needless to say im not a professional historian or a political scientist#and i skim over concepts here#esp regarding how the holocaust targeted certain gentile groups#like a am speaking generally when i say nazism resulted in gentile oppression and murder incidentally and all that#if you were romani or slavic (esp polish) during the nazi occupations#this was not incidental#tho it was still the jews being targeted as priority number 1. but it would be very dismissive to say that nazism only targeted all gentile#incidentally. this depended on time and place#and obviously even in places like france that went ~relatively~ untouched during the nazi occupation if you were not jewish#these occupations were immensely traumatizing for the general population and many many gentiles were killed during the wars and during the#occupations under the nazis#so my point here is not to take away from that but actually to point out how the very real threat that the nazis also posed to gentiles#during ww2 is what caused a cultural shift in these countries

people wonder why we still need feminism when boys in my class were comparing what the suffragettes (/womans right to vote movement in the uk) did to get the right to vote (hunger strikes, arson attacks, destroyed property where the majority of people would notice, leaving behind notes to say that they did it, etc, etc) to Hitler. They were comparing woman who just wanted to be fucking equal to men and get the right to vote for all woman (not just rich white woman like the suffragists did) to HITLER.

IRL Historians: The causation of WW2 were very diverse and can't really be boiled down to a single reason. It is important we view the events and changes in the zeitgeist and context of their time to properly understand the delicate processes that caused the conflict. Among others being the results of the First World War, the built-up of the German society and the Treaty of Versailles aswell as commonly held beliefs of the time. One should not attempt to "dumb it down" as it hurts the culture of remembrance.
IRL Germans: The Second World War and the atrocities committed during it are truly horrifying. We should not let this become a footnote in history or reduce it to one or two facets. The rise of the NSDAP and Hitler is a cautionary tale of how easily normal people can become radicalized and commit crimes. Because Hitler, at the end of the day, was just a normal person who was democratically elected into office. He was not some mystical wizard, the German people of the time had a choice and they chose him.
Rick motherf*cking Riordan: Actually the reason WW2 happened is that the world leaders of the times were beefing because they were kids of fictional versions of the Greek gods! And the fact that the main reason it happened was that those leaders were beefing as demigods is not only heavily implied but actually STATED in my book! The society, actual history and ideology of Germany and other countries had absolutely nothing to do with it, it was all demigods!
#LIKE YOU DO REALIZE HOW THIS IS SORT OF EXCUSING THE ACTIONS OF THE THRID REICH RIGHT????#YOU DO NOTICE HOW THIS IS SOMETHING THE GUY SHOULD HAVE BEEN STRUNG UP FOR RIGHT???#OR ATLEAST SHOULD BE PUBLICLY APOLOGIZING FOR AND CANONICALLY CHANGING TO ATLEAST MENTION THAT DEMIGODS WEREN'T INFACT-#-THE MAIN REASON FOR WW2#pjo#percy jackson and the olympians#rr crit

Imagine dating Usami in the modern day, and having Ogata as a mutual friend. Maybe you met them at the same time, or Usami introduced Ogata as his roommate in college. Maybe you even knew Ogata first, and Usami swept in after he introduced the two of you at a party.
(More under the cut. Open the post if you don't see a readmore.)
Whatever the case, Ogata has been secretly pining after you for a long-ass time. Usami picked up on it almost immediately, and has been lording his relationship with you over Ogata ever since, just to fuck with the guy (because of course he is). It doesn't help that Ogata's being kind of an incel about the whole thing, wondering how you could go for an asshole like Usami. Ignoring, of course, the fact that he himself is kind of a dick to you most of the time...
Ogata has it built up in his head that Usami is a terrible boyfriend, and it's only a matter of time until you break up and he can have his shot... but no, that's completely wishful thinking. Usami is an exemplary boyfriend, actually. Loving, attentive, always showing up for you, and spoiling you with fun dates and presents (and he remembers exactly what you like, too!). Doing the lion's share of the housework if you move in together, and making you breakfast every morning before he leaves for work because he wants to make sure you're eating properly. Not to mention the sex--if you have it--is phenomenal...
Ogata is left coming home to an empty, messy apartment every night, to eat a microwaved meal and watch gun historian videos on YouTube with the lights out. Wondering how an asshole like Usami has you so fooled. He knows what that guy's really like...
#golden kamuy x reader#ogata x reader#usami x reader#imagine golden kamuy#and that's the end of that... or... perhaps there's a polyam part 2?...#usami mentions thinking about going ring-shopping to ogata one day literally just to fuck with him. ah that guy's so easy...#ogata mostly watches a (real!) channel called Forgotten Weapons and he has a t-shirt with all the guns used in WW2 on it#also yes if you're sex-repulsed ace you still have a loving relationship with usami in my au i specifically included you pls enjoy#ogata hyakunosuke#usami tokishige#gk

Early April 1945, Henford-on-Bagley, England
The shiva was for family only. They saw no other visitors after the funeral. The funeral had been in the same London synagogue where Byron and Eleora had married and where Simon-Elliot had his bar mitzvah. Grief wracked the home, from a young widow crying for a husband who’d never come home, grandparents forced to bury their eldest grandson, to siblings distraught over the loss of a brother.
Kit and Ludivine were far too young to understand what was happening, playing near where adults stood, recognizing the sorrow but too young to comprehend or act on it. Kit knew it was something about his brother, that he wasn’t coming home. He had never experienced death before, but he knew that surely his brother wouldn’t want something like this to say goodbye. And of course, a four-year-old boy—the spare—was now due to inherit his father’s title.
There was anger, sorrow, and frustration in equal measure. Giselle and Francesca had helped the couple elope when neither family supported the match. They could not lash out to a grieving wife, but to the couple who’d witnessed the wedding? Byron felt betrayed by his sister. Eleora seemed more at peace with it, and her anger was more directed by the thought of never seeing her son again, and how she wished Simon-Elliot and Lydia could’ve married in a far happier and more open setting.

lmao these are ocs I made wayyyy back in 2021 on a personal blog and I don’t think I ever posted them here, so I’ll do a quick recap!
the guy with the blue hair is marion. he hunts demons! baron is a librarian at a university only because everyone else who was actually qualified for the position died and he really just wants to go home and take a nap.
that’s about it! it was a story I started on because I wanted to draw cool outfits and big monsters after spending a weekend playing DMC5 during the lockdown, but recently it’s been getting some more serious depth as I build up the world.
the original desire to give everyone fun hair colors has remained the same tho, that’s not going to change no matter how serious this story does or does not get
⭐ places I’m at! bsky / pixiv / pillowfort /cohost / cara.app / tip jar!
#original tag#I almost started taking about all the historical documents that were lost when Japan was setting Manila on fire during ww2#and this….open wound I guess of knowing what we lost and being unable to reconstruct it#also talk about war crimes! so many ph universities were sites of war crimes. All of that is working it’s way into the setting of this fake#school lmao. I thought it was kind of a heavy topic switch when I previously mentioned that it was originally inspired by dmc5#so into the tags it goes!

Late morning finds them in the tenth arrondissement, uncharacteristically serene given the most recent events. For nearly a week the company has been sifting through chaotic, disorganized heaps that Eddie knows will haunt him for the rest of his life. Masses of limbs, toys, bricks, cookware, concrete. All mementos of lives rearranged like a sick jigsaw puzzle. Pieces shuffled and dumped on the streets for someone to reconnect.
Their task is to seek out any survivors, no matter how unlikely a scenario that is by now. He doesn’t know why any instructions are being sugar coated anymore. They all know they aren’t looking for heartbeats. Often they’re lucky to find whole bodies. Perhaps it’s more for the delicate ears of any nearby citizens, though he suspects their hope is down to embers as well.
Eddie takes what feels like his first full breath in days as he and Tommy come upon a section of Canal Saint Martin. The sight of flowing water, however repulsive its contents, is its own form of healing for him. If he doesn’t analyze it too closely, he can pretend that it’s only water. A historic landmark bringing a bit of tranquility in the face of destruction.
The street itself is relatively intact, as loosely defined as the term is at the moment. He doesn’t immediately pick out spots of reddish-brown and that’s good enough for him.
Neither one of them speaks just yet, content with listening to the faint sounds of the canal. Not quite midway down the street is what remains of a cafe. Tables and chairs mingle, overturned on the sidewalk, glittering in the sunlight from shards of glass blown out from the windows and doors. He peers into the darkened shop, curious to see what other bits he might find.
Tommy wordlessly follows him inside, chips of glass and porcelain crunching under their boots.
“What’s on your mind, kid?” Tommy asks, breaking the silence.
He surveys the fallen shelves, shattered cups and saucers, tablecloths and napkins, the register laying in the center of a display case. He runs his fingers across the nearest wall, swiping a pattern into the dirt and dust. It’s not even the first establishment like this they’ve come upon, so he’s not sure why this one in particular calls to him.
“I don’t know,” he answers honestly. “This place-” He scrubs at his chin, huffing out a humorless laugh before turning to face Tommy. “Maybe it’s a bit of sadness for something I’ll never know.”
Tommy cocks his head to the side, silently asking him to elaborate.
“I’ve never been anywhere like this at home. Sure, we have a few places in town, but it’s- they’re standard. Small town. Probably not all that different from another place a few miles over.”
“Can’t say my little speck on the map is rolling in Parisian eateries either.”
“That’s not-” Eddie shoots him a faux annoyed glare. “You already know I’ve never traveled before. Never went farther than the post office. Well, until I had to get interviewed by Uncle Sam. Anyway, my point is, these cities will be put back together. Eventually. Homes will be rebuilt, businesses will reopen. But- they’ll never be the same.” He pauses, turning in a slow circle to take it in again. “This was someone’s favorite place to stop on a Saturday. Someone’s preferred place to meet a friend and catch up.”
Eddie meets Tommy’s gaze, shrugging helplessly. “Maybe even a place for someone’s first date. But now, those memories will be ruined. Stained by all of this.”
Tommy nods thoughtfully, as if he’s turning this information over in his mind. “Perhaps.”
He sets a table upright and grabs one of the filthy cream colored tablecloths, spreading it out on the tabletop. Eddie watches as he gathers two of the least broken teacups and saucers, setting two places directly across from each other.
“The thing is, something I’ve learned from all of this mess, is that even the most damaged can be restored. It will never be like it was, but sometimes it’s- better. More complete than anyone thought possible.” Tommy reaches to take Eddie’s hand, pulling him closer. “New memories will be made.”
“Yeah?” Eddie rests his free hand on Tommy’s waist. “So, maybe one day in the future this memory could be replaced, too. You and me, we could come back here. When it’s rebuilt. Stay at one of those ritzy hotels.”
Tommy leans closer, nosing along Eddie’s cheek. “Yeah, we could. Wake up whenever we want. And we’ll come here everyday. Drink real coffee out of the fancy little cups and share a basket of warm croissants.”
“Mmhmm,” Eddie answers shakily, feeling a tear escape and roll down to his jaw.
“Sounds like a dream,” he whispers against Tommy’s lips.
“Just for now, kid,” Tommy assures him, even though they both know it’s a lie.
He closes whatever gap was left, needing to kiss Tommy, needing to feel him as close as they can be, decently and in broad daylight. A risk they both seem willing to take. The taste of salt splashes on his tongue as their kiss deepens, Tommy wrapping his hand around the back of Eddie’s neck.
For a speck of time, slim as any of the fragments laying at their feet, it’s all too easy to forget. To pretend that the world is the kind, understanding place they need it to be. That their words aren’t a spun up fantasy, no more plausible than a child’s fairytale.
“We should get back out there,” Eddie murmurs, reluctantly pulling away. “Before someone comes looking.”
“You’re right, we should.” Tommy agrees and gives him a quick peck on the corner of his mouth.
Eddie sighs, looking around one last time, eyes focusing where his fingers brushed through earlier. It gives him an idea, however ill advised it might be.
“Comin’, Diaz?” Tommy calls from the sidewalk.
“One sec.” Eddie pauses at the blank wall by their makeshift table, once again tracing into the dirt. He smiles at his creation, committing it to memory before he joins Tommy outside.
“What was that about?”
“Just wanted someone to know we were here.”

Audio Log: Hudson Hendriks (FOUND IN ART DEPARTMENT)
I shouldn't be so wrapped up in this, I'm aware.
In about a month, I'm quitting the studio and packing up my bag for Canada. The Air Force awaits....
I should be proud to have ties to RCAF. I should be ecstatic about following my Dad's footsteps, and his Dad's footsteps....and his Dad's footsteps...wait does that even make sense? Whatever, pretty sure it does.
I was once an Air Cadet. What the hell did I expect? Never go to the Air Force? Yeah, right.
I should be proud. Brave. And......Oh to hell with this!!
Why won't he be proud of me? What do I have to do? Lead a bunch of P-51 mustangs and P-40 Kittyhawks into battle? Like heck I would!
I just......
I just want him to be proud of me.
I joined Boy scouts to impress him. I joined Air Cadets to impress him. I made ties here in New York by myself. I......
Am I......
Good enough?
If I go to war and die like a hero......
Would he finally love me?
Proud to call me his son?
