Solaris-3 and the Solar System

Hey, Rovers!

Throughout the game, I’ve noticed some mentions of the solar system of Wuwa, and I wanted to gather it all together along with some theories I have about it. In this first part, I will gather all the references to space I can find, and later make some theories in Part Two, so let’s get to it shall we? But first a disclaimer, I do not own any of the wuwa graphics shown throughout this post, kuro games does. Additionally, this is all speculative work, and I tend to overanalyze things, so take all this knowledge with a grain of salt!

Ch. 1: The References

First, let’s go through all of the mentions, or things I think have to do with space throughout the game.

The Goddesses Halo: Although probably purely aesthetic, the goddess’s halo looks to me like a solar system. This halo comprises two sets of co-orbital configured astronomical objects (objects that share the same gravitational path or orbit), and that’s about it. There is suspiciously a lack of central star, unless you count the Goddess as it, along with it seeming to be incomplete. We know that Sol-3 is the third planet away from the Sun, and this model halo only goes two out, so if it is accurate, it isn’t complete. This is also assuming that the Goddess is from the same Solar System or Universe as Sol-3 is.

(Also I took the time to look at the constellations found in the goddesses' hair. And as far as I can tell there is no EXACT match to any constellations from our world. These are probably also an aesthetic detail, drawn from an artist’s mind, but I wanted to mention them anyway.)

The Diary: On this Diary, acquired during the Omnious Star main quest, there seems to be a ringed planet, possibly surrounded by six moons or astronomical objects.

Lunite: This currency seems to be a planet surrounded by a ring, a moon, and two to four stars. In its description, we learn that Sol-3’s moon was shattered a long time ago and is merely a mirage, like how the stars we see in the sky are long dead.

Lunite Purchasing Menu and Animation: In the images we see above, we can see an artistic rendition or model of … something I suppose. There’s a central gold planet or perhaps a core of a planet, surrounded by the phases of the moon, and another moon? The white crescent could also be a moon, or a planet itself. Surrounding this white part there’s another co-orbital configuration path with a white (or gold in one image) and blue planet and four shining stars. There are also some constellations made up of stars, moons, and suns, which are similar to constellations in our world but not exact.

The Lunite Subscription Passes also have a similar image on them, along with the words Month Card, 15, or 7. The central astronomical object changes between them. They also mention a Celestial Observatory in their description.

Astrite: A star-shaped object with a rather ethereal description

Tacet Cores: Multiple of the cores for the tacet discords are star-shaped.

Star Flakes: Star-shaped food rather reminiscent of the shape of tacet fields, cores, and marks. Don’t forget to make a wish after eating some.

The Icefield Honor Medal: Purely Speculative, but to me there looks to be once again, four stars on it.

There are also some more tacet discord/echo items that are star-shaped, that I didn’t want to gather together. But yeah that’s it for part 1. If there’s anything I missed let me know and I’ll make sure to add it! Anyways, this is me signing out! Toodles!

the small thought: mortefi loves candy, i think that's adorable. the fact he makes his own candy?? adorable. it's popular with children, i love that he's got such a soft spot for kids. makes me sick how are you like this.

the long thought:

given what little we know about mortefi, or what he'll let us know, i definitely think his lighter was given to him by someone like jiyan or xiangli yao.

in his own lines and in the little informational blurb we're given about the lighter, i feel that it may have been xiangli yao or jiyan - in either scenario, it would make sense

jiyan saved mortefi and assisted him, eventually referring him to the academy. if it was jiyan who gave him the lighter, it would make sense - jiyan provided a tool for mortefi to help quell his anger.

though, based on mortefi's reluctance to say who gave him the lighter, i feel it may be xiangli yao.

mortefi has such a funny one sided beef with xiangli yao imo like this man lost a science fair x amount of years ago and still hasn't recovered.

but he clearly values xiangli yao and his opinions and insight (his interest and implied awe of xiangli yao's inventions in his intimacy level IV, calling xiangli yao in the early main story to get his thoughts on a puzzle),

so if xiangli yao were to notice mortefi's rising annoyance, i have no doubt that xiangli yao would not only provide mortefi a simple item, but a practical item at that, to help him refocus himself to quell his emotions. after all, mortefi seems to admire that xiangli yao's inventions were practical and cheap as much as they were innovative.

either way, i think it's fantastic that mortefi likes the clicking of his lighter. something about that fact just tickles my brain just right.

another small thought: the cracked necklace in mortefi's cherished items .. the third item itself .. it reminds me of a fire opal. specifically, dragon's breath opal.

it's not really a gem or rare stone, more akin to costume jewelry, but i suspect that the cracked appearance and hint of the dragon's fury must have something to do with the incident of norfall barrens. and considering mortefi is from a noble background, i have a feeling that the jewelry may have more to do with his connections to his family (or former connections) and how their treatment of him has left their own scars on him.

but that's just some thoughts i've had. i like thinking of mortefi and i do hope we'll get a character quest with him some time.

I've seen a bunch of stuff on tiktok about how the Rover in Wuthering Waves has everyone obsessed with him, and yes, it's annoying. Please give us variation in character, but i think something I've noticed is that rover is Sorta like a god to them, and Solaris 3 in general.

[Note- I will be referring to the Rover with he/him pronouns as I used the male Rover myself]

I'm like 80% sure that Rover is a god, or thee god of Solaris 3. He has insane amount of powers and is the arbiter or master over Jué. You know the Sentinel in where he sat.

"The Sentinels, also called Oracle Engines, stand at the brink of civilization and history, as guardians and guides. Their immortal existence has helped humanity through countless troubles, sharing prophecies and wisdom. As we embark on a new journey after enduring the Lament, the Sentinels remain our record keeper and beacon in times of disaster." [Taken directly from the wiki]

He has power over that. That's not something a regular resonator who just showed up and is the leader of the black shores can do. Speaking of the black shores, he is their leader and founder and the man who controls the Sentinel im Mt.Firmimit

"Astral Modulator, Shepherd of Civilizations, Mastermind of the Black Shores." [Another quote from the wiki] A cool thing here is notice the title Shepard of Civilizations. Not civilization. Civilizations plural. As in more than one. You can not tell me they aren't at least partly divine.

Also, he was able to absorb the echo with his bare hand in the first part of the story. Yeah sure it was Abby, but what is abby but another really power echo. Like the rivers powers were put into Abby by the woman in silver, and given back to him incase anything went wrong .

Going to him being the astral modulator, "Modulation is the process of adjusting frequencies. In Solaris-3, frequencies serve as a crucial tool for uncovering the truth about reality. By altering these frequencies" this quote will be important, it's from the wiki again.

In the black shores underground, the constellations and stars are past laments all recorded in the teythis system by the Rover back when he went all amnesia on them. Going to back the quote, modulation can uncover the truth of reality, and he can modulate (change frequencies) past laments into stars. DOSENT THAT SOUND LIKE SOMETHING ONLY A GOD COULD DO?!?! I'm not even gonna get into his seemingly having control over the Teythis system.

Laments are constant destruction. A god would not want the world they plan to live in to constantly be destroyed.

That would explain the reason why people love him so much. He's a literal god. And the reason why he has so much control over everything, and the reason we are seeing it solely through his point of view. He is looking at his own world, seeing all the people who love him and practically worship him because that is what he is used to.

It would open so many possibilities if this was true, including people losing faith, trust, or even love in him after realizing he is a god who left them to live a life acting as a mortal.

TLDR- i think Rover is a god, and he might lose a lot of faithful followers after people realize he left them. And it gives some reason why it's only his POV and why everyone practically worships him.

I did try getting into obey me like,,, last year i think?? Unfortunately I didn't get very far into the story :[ idk why but with mobile games I often get into it for a few days at most and then never touch it again after (whb, nu:c, pgr though i still rlly like Lee and no i do not have a type please stop spreading misinformation, and dislyte are some games I can think of on the top of my head and what do you know, they're all gacha games LMADOADOAOD). Purely design wise I like Belphie a lot but i never met him in game lolol also he likes naps and I like naps too

guys I played the Wuthering Waves event thingy and during the glimpse into Xiangli Yao's past I just kept thinking that Pascar was Scar.

Warning for Wuthering Waves spoilers past here!!

In the first encounter with Scar, he tells a story about sheep and a shepherd, the sheep following the shepherd for their own selfish desires. When one would make a wish, it would come true but at the cost of another sheep. This theory probably makes no sense really, considering Xiangli Yao wasn't sacrificing people as far as we're aware, but what if Xiangli Yao was the shepherd, the scientists the sheep, and Scar was the black sheep who didn't fall for the tricks but it was all a misunderstanding.

In the backstory, the scientists all had very high views of Xiangli Yao, and when he was gone from the lab, they kept yelling that they need him there rather than Pascar (I think. My memory isn't all that good)

If I remember correctly, Pascar died due to an accident during the project, which could explain his scars because I'm pretty sure it was an explosion. Pascar's eye and hair color also match up pretty well to Scar's, but Scar's hair is lighter and one of his eyes is red so who knows

We also have the names, since Scar could be a nickname for Pascar

This concludes my sad attempt at a theory!!

I got the Augment rectifier weapon from the battle pass because I knew I wanted to put it on my Encore. And it was pink! But as you upgrade it, it turns gold. 😔 It's still very pretty. And Encore has gold accents. But dang. I'm sad my girliepop pink vibe is gone 5ever if I want an upgraded weapon lol

Hello Rovers!

I was looking through the items in game and stumbled upon this music sheet. It's described to be "a product from decades ago" which left me wondering, hey is this music piece an actual music piece from our world?

If so, can it be used to prove Solaris-3 is a post apocalyptic Earth?

Unfortunately I don't have an answer to these questions, because first I need to find the actual music piece. If anyone has any ideas of what it could be, please let me know!

A/n: HELLO NOBUUU!!! <3 I'm so happy you liked the first part oml, and I'm more than happy to give a part two to that as well! I didn't expect people to ask about my OC too, but that's really sweet and decided to include her at the end too :,) Hope you enjoy! Wuthering Waves characters as dragons pt.2

Calcharo:

-Another dragon that is a long way from his home and closely related to the dragons of the New Federation. 

-Not the one you see around too often, as he does tend to avoid civilization where he can, even avoiding flying if that would get him too much attention, but honestly he is really pretty to see in flight-

-He is scarily beautiful, and some people managed to catch a picture or two of him in flight from afar, so it’s one of those blurry “is it a unicorn” pictures that people spread around like wildfire

-Due to his lack of contact with others, a lot of ghost tales began to circulate around him, and gossip has it that he wasn’t born as he looks now. People say he was born pure as snow, but somewhere down the line, the gods cursed him, and now he physically bears that curse in the shape of tough black scales that spread over him unevenly, and the golden star on his chest is said to be the only place a blade can pierce him. A few courageous, or rather stupid, individuals did try to test this theory for glory and money that an anonymous bidder has set on Calcharo’s head. But those people were never heard from again.

-The climate around Jinzhou is not his favorite, so he tends to retreat into the mountains a lot where there’s a cooler breeze and colder caves to rest in properly. His mane helps him with regulating body heat, but it is in no way made for summer heat.

-It is said that Calcharo and Jiyan are in amiable talks with one another, with both patrolling the territory of Jinzhou and protecting it in their own ways. Two sides of the same coin, as one would say. Jiyan has also made attempts at bringing Calcharo to meet the others, to get to know the people, and when he did Calcharo was rather reluctant to leave his dragon form, and he walked there in his towering form. But when he was met with wonder, warm welcomes and greetings and with some small pushing from Jiyan, he caved in and showed the people his human form as well. Sure, there was some reluctance in people’s eyes as well, but their General vouched for this newcomer and told them of the feats he accomplished in the name of them or their protection, and they had faith in their General Jiyan.

-From that point on, the ghost tales did lessen, and the children of Jinzhou seemed to find it easier to wander further into the woods, and the adults found it easier to relax with two of the strongest dragons patrolling the territory. 

-However, Calcharo wouldn’t be able to cover all that vast territory alone, and from a long while ago he has pulled a few trusted ones into his fold and under his wing. 

-Be it other dragon folk like him, or regular people, he has many ears and eyes all over the lands, to the point he doesn’t even need to leave his mountain cave to know what goes on in the city at the foot of the mountain. Due to this, even if people began to regard him as an ally, they still do not dare to provoke him in any way, and criminals have begun to walk on their tip toes, afraid to poke one of Calcharo’s spies or men that he was so protective of. 

-Calcharo doesn’t hoard much of anything in his caves. Perhaps some weapons, but for the most part it is all barren. Sometimes moonlight shines into the cave from some hole in the ceiling of the cave, making his mane the color of beaten silver, and making all his markings go pale. He nearly looks covered in snow, pure white again.

-He doesn’t like you traveling so far up the roads just to see him, but if you do, he does keep you around for a few days to make your journey worth it. In that short time you stay with him, you find his cave gets quickly filled with supplies necessary for you to have an enjoyable/comfortable time.

-He doesn’t often nap or sunbathe, he also claims the sun hurts his scales. Due to their uneven thickness and distribution, one part of him could benefit from a bit of the sun, but the other would just start burning. 

-Although he looks like he is constantly scowling and sneering, he does greatly appreciate your presence. The quiet around, and the exploration you two seem to undertake suddenly seems more lively and worth the time to look at.

-Be it that you’re dragonkin or just a human, he does take you for a flight. Sometimes he does this if he is mid patrol or mid mission and he can’t just keep you behind. He knows he has what it takes to defend you, so he doesn’t mind you tagging along.

-His mane is also  free real estate bed, go ahead and bury yourself in it and while you’re at it you can also use another strand of his long mane as a blanket.

-He smells fresh too.

Aalto:

-One of the friendliest dragons, and he certainly looks the part as well with how soft he may look and behave. He is the dragon people see a lot around, and some claim he brings down the morning mists and others say he can wash clouds away with his wings to make way for the sun, but that’s all folktale. He can create mist and make his escape safe and quick, or his attack, but he finds fun in other folktales that surround him.

-Due to his breed, he really doesn’t look fit for battle, and many dragons misjudged him for his lack of limbs that could otherwise serve in a fight. But, naturally, they are wrong about him. 

-While Aalto lacks in mass, size and limbs, he makes up for all of it in agility, speed and intellect, using whatever environment is around him to his advantage, and you’d be surprised how much strength his talons have. 

-He has a lot of power in him for a seemingly “weightless dragon”.

-Aalto is also often seen near or around little Encore. And when she begins to stir trouble, or trouble finds them, he is quick to snatch her up in his talons like an eagle snatches a fish out of a lake, and flies off into the mist to disappear

-Aalto is also not the one to hide in his dragon form. He understands that he is already perceived as “weak” to some extent, driving some to believe he isn’t even worth attacking, and so he sees it as no harm in indulging in human activities as well, which also have their own merits and advantages, especially in his field of work. How else is he supposed to get all that information if he is this one big stumbling beast? Come on! This is Aalto! He knows way better than to let gossip stop him.

-Even if the gossip was the other way around, he would be sure in his skills to take on whoever goes after him. His senses are as sharp as a blade, and he does notice a lot even if he doesn’t let it on, especially since he doesn’t let it on.

-He has quite a characteristic chirp in his dragon form, it is a really sweet and comforting sound and can sometimes mean playtime, and he often uses it when Encore is around or some other kids that he is around with in that moment.

-Although he is very well met with people all around the place, he does his best to not let any of them get under his skin and worm themselves in his heart, as such could mean potential danger in his missions. So while he is surrounded by people, he does sometimes feel left out and alone.

-You seem to melt all that away though, standing at his side and twining your fingers with his before taking him to get food or drinks, saying how much his absence was noted, not just by you but by others as well. The lady that lives next to you that has grown accustomed to seeing Aalto come to your door with gifts and meals has begun to ask if he left you, already preparing a mouthful of scolding words, but upon your reassurance that he was simply working, she quieted down. And the kids in the streets began to wonder where their “sky dragon” had gone off too. They do this every time, no matter how many times he leaves for work.

-His mane isn’t fur, and although in some places his feathers give the illusion of fur, they’re just fine and thin feathers that are also well kept and clean. You can swear the mist has something to do with it. 

-Aalto often does leave behind a feather or two for you to keep before a trip, and slowly this big vase in the back of the house is starting to overflow with giant feathers of your lover

-He brings you other gifts too, some of them big so they only fit in your yard, and others smaller that fit inside your house

-He is quite the cuddly dragon with you, but be warned he does love to snatch you up and take to the skies when you least expect it

Encore:

-Make way for Encore! This sweet little baby brings a lot to the table, even much more than any other dragon ever - Aalto probably 

-She is the sweetest, and she is such a ball of energy, it can be hard for anyone to keep up with her. She loves to play with other children that are around, usually giving them rides on her back since she is still a bit big in comparison to a grown adult, let alone a small child. She dares them all to stay on her back while she jumps and bucks and  rolls around- which, hey, can be dangerous and Aalto makes sure there is no rolling at least unless they want someone to become a human pancake

-Due to her age, her scales have only now begun to grow and form, making them soft and easily damaged. Aalto tends to get Encore to spend more time in human form than dragon form, just for safety sake. But at the moment, due to the exact reason for her scales forming, she has to spend more time as a dragon to give her scales proper space and time to grow and develop.

-Her friends give her all sorts of gifts, bows and sweets and clips, and they help her comb her hair since it is now harder for her to do so..etc

-The two sheep plushies she usually carries in her human form are now like ants in her claws but she still has them following her, like flies compared to her

-She is a restless sleeper, and usually goes to power naps in some warm grass, giving Aalto a heart attack when he just disappears, but she is back quickly enough, hopping like a deer through grass. 

-The creatures of the woods both love her and fear her. Love her since she is a lot more like them and is respectful, but she is just too loud and during playtime can get a bit rough

-Here comes Aalto to snag her up.

Scar:

-Scar is another kind of dragon that hasn’t been seen around before, at all really. He is one of a kind, and quite scary while he’s at it too. Not only is he a giant, but his horns give him such a haunting appearance. If you were to see him in the night, his towering shadow and giant horns paired with four glowing eyes staring into your soul, you wouldn’t feel the best y’know

-He tends to wander, but seems to leave no traces behind him. One day he may be in the south, and the next he is down at the coastline near the northern cities.

-From some angles he looks rather disfigured, but if he allows you to approach him, you can see that all his bones are, in fact, in their place and he isn’t broken - he just hyperflexible-

-One sound he just loves to do is that one that is akin to a laughing hyena + cougar, he mixes the sound to the point you can only just shiver or tense up. On that topic, he is quite able to mimic many sounds and make new ones, and again - this is his favorite activity to do, especially when there’s people around to spook or run off from the territory 

-I mentioned he has four eyes. The bigger pair serves for normal vision, just like you and I, but they are also eyes for a predator, while the smaller pair are more for panoramic views. Although he can hardly be classified as a prey animal, he was a small lamb once too, and had to keep watch out for bigger predators.

-Although he doesn’t breathe fire, he also has a way of manipulating flames and creating them. The ends of his clothes that hang from him sometimes catch fire, giving him an haunting look as he is mid battle and burning himself - but the flames never touch him to hurt him,

-He doesn’t lack in limbs, and he especially is more than useful in both combat and scaling mountains and rocks. He can grab and kick and slash and bite. What more is there?

-Just like with any other dragon that isn’t in much contact with humanity and that looks as scary as him, a lot of people have woven different stories about the goat dragon. It’s mostly parents scaring their children with these tales, saying how the goat dragon will snag them if they stay too late outside or if they wander too far off.

-Some other stories include details of his origin. Some adventurous spirit found old cave paintings that show a black lamb and a big herd, and so they say he was a sacrifice himself. That the form they sometimes glimpse is nothing more but a vengeful spirit that seeks those who harmed him.

-Scar can’t fly, but he can float a bit, but he can also jump really high so watch out for that.

-He also lacks a lot of scales besides for his front claws.  He may be the only dragon that’s fluffed up as he is.

-For practicality sake, he doesn’t often do his things and missions in human form - it’s just way easier to swoop in like this beast, scare off the enemy and take their things, rather than chit chat and try to get through their stubborn heads.

-He does taunt them while he attacks with those sounds he makes, and sometimes, to lure a particular person out, he does imitate the voice of someone they’re close to.

-Sometimes, he is able to morph his skull to represent the skull of a goat, but those are just illusions and not real.

-Honestly, his fut is quite nice to the touch, although the big mane is a bit coarse and really thick 

-Although the woods are the best place for hiding and stalking, his horns often get stuck on branches and plants, so he prefers open fields for this reason

-Clingy in his sleep, so clingy. You have to be present or else. Else what? No clue, but you prefer not to be chirped at in the middle of the night, even if you know it is him making all that scary noise

Wuwa Jien:

–A dragon that seems to have been slumbering for the last several centuries, or else people simply believe her to be really old. Her slumber has paused her growth, but her scales still grew hard and impenetrable. Her claws are dark gold and leave behind a faint glimmer on things or dragons she slashes with them. 

-She is another dragon that doesn’t often interact with civilization, and just prefers to keep to her woods and fields. People began to claim that leaves grow greener while she is within the woods, and winters never last too long there either. For this, people do respect her and just leave her be. Although she isn’t social, she doesn’t shy away from people if they stumble into each other. Some people have come across her as she is laying down on some big boulder, resting or soaking in some sun, others have been there as she flew overhead, and she didn’t deny giving help to lost or distressed souls that find their way to her territory

-She is still quite formidable, and similarly to Aalto, she makes up for her lack of size with intellect and strategy

-She is another dragon that can breathe fire, like Mortefi. Her flames are really pale, almost golden and burn even hotter than Mortefi’s fire.

-Some people may find trees marked with her teeth, and some say it’s because she is marking her territory, while others say she is growing even more teeth.

-Jien is quite territorial though, and isn’t too happy when many people come and go, and even less when other dragons do so. She is quite tolerable though. She has patience and grits her teeth when someone tresspasses, giving them a chance to leave swiftly, but can sometimes make some noise to give warning to the unwanted visitors - primarily dragons. The only humans she’d give such hard treatment to are those that harm nature and litter or do any other sort of harm or are scheming to do so.

-There is a story that some people like to say that involves the General Jiyan, and it speaks of how the General went to her woods to seek her out for some assistance, but as he did arrive in the middle of the night and sh didn’t recognize him, she nearly clawed his lungs out. But from that encounter and onward, there were no fights between the two, and the army of Jinzhou never lacked in herbs from then either

-Loves to fly, and can often be seen gliding over her woods, and sometimes Jinzhou city and the surrounding mountains. It isn’t often for her to travel too far, but on rare occasions she goes to Mt. Firmament, which is more often in summer, she brings back a huge block of ice with her

-She has this big pool in the rocks of one hill, a big canopy of an oak overhead - it is a natural spring in which she is known to bathe in, and also perfect for her size.

-Doesn’t shy from human form either, and similarly to Mortefi - she prefers to do her paperwork and smaller business with human hands which are more precise, rather than claws. 

Size chart and trivia:

Calcharo is the biggest one in this lineup, having both size, mass and height to him, and can easily be classified as a war dragon as well

Scar is next in line, but he is much more lanky in comparison to Calcharo

Aalto is bigger than Jien but she has him beat in the strength department

Encore, of course is the smallest one here, Aalto can easily grab her in one talon and carry her off

So far, size wise the chart would be Geshu Lin> Jiyan/Calcharo>Scar>Aalto>Jien>Jinhsi>Mortefi>Encore

Tried to base Calcharo on a more wolflike anatomy/patterns since it suits him imo. So he has shorter claws that also look like paws

I saw PrettyBusy's Recent Announcement on their News section and I have some opinions...

1.)

Whomst the fucketh is upset??? About the datamining specifically??? That shit's outta left field cuz what the fuck??? So amongst the sea of emails complaining about the Pancake Shop and consecutive Nightmare Pass and lack of Main Story content, they zeroed in on the datamining 'issue' that's been 'upsetting so many players'. Ayo what??? And that's not including the possible emails about bugs and all that.

2.)

I don't have definite proof of it but my gut feeling says someone's been snitching.

Also notice that they didn't mention Twitter/X. It's possible they consider other social media sites as external communities since they mainly post on Twitter/X. But if this is such a serious and important issue, why haven't they made an official post on it over there??? (as of making this post, they still haven't made an announcement) My theory is that most of their JP and KR players are on Twt/X and they might agitate that fanbase cuz they were also upset about the recent changes to the game.

3.)

Enhancements on the game client, sure. But there's still the storage issue??? I forgot the specific term for that problem im sorry, but like, WHB is 8.48GB on my tablet. Wuthering Waves is 13.08GB. HOW??? And I haven't even updated the game since the Nightmare Pancake update.

I refuse to give two shits about their compensation for this "issue" because that's not what the players have been asking to fix/address.

Each and every update takes away the joy imo. The simp and thirst is strong towards the characters but that doesn't mean we're gonna take all their bs without complaint.

We've tried to voice our concerns but it looks like they wanna keep shooting themselves in the foot with a shotgun.

Still, please be respectful when emailing them. Let it be as strongly worded as you want but don't send threats.

To Give Up Isn't To Fail (Wuthering Waves)

Pairing: Mortefi x Reader

Warnings: Very mild angst

A/N: God, I love him so much. I wanted this one to be a bit serious but still sweet!

You weren't the best scientist. You were still a student at the Academy (and have been for longer than what was normal), you were messy, and you could never keep track of the tasks you were given. It was a wonder why you hadn't flunked out or just quit. But you knew you had your reasons. Or, in this case, reason.

Mortefi was standing over you, rubbing the bridge of his nose as he sighed. You had dropped a thick file filled with an important report and now the papers were scattered all over the floor. It was an accident, but you always had accidents. You kept your gaze down to hide the blush on your cheeks. That look of disappointment had always had your heart pounding. Soft classical music played in the background as you struggled to get all the papers together.

It wasn't your intention to fall in love with him. He was everything you're not; smart, organized, and perfect. You first met him when your professor deemed it necessary to have you work under someone to try and fix you. Mortefi was the obvious candidate. While strict, he was passionate about science. In theory, he would help you, the struggling student. And you found yourself falling in love instead of becoming a good student and scientist. You were a hopeless case.

"I'm so sorry." You mumbled, finally standing up. You held the stack close to your chest. "I'll organize these immediately."

"It's late. You should go home."

You shook your head. "I won't go home until you do."

He sighed and slowly lowered his hand. He didn't say a word and only walked over to you, patting your head, before going to sit at the table and fiddle with whatever he was currently working on. The flush on your face grew hotter. You were so in love with him. With a shaky sigh, you quickly sat next to him. You set down the papers and began to organize them.

As the night went on, you kept glancing over what he was working on. It looked to be something similar to a children's toy. That was something he always did. Even if he was bogged down with other jobs, he always made sure to fulfill any request a kid gave him. Just another reason you loved him so much.

"What are you making this time?" You asked softly. 

"Some child requested a toy that… Well, you'll see. I need you to test it out."

You felt your face flush again. "Me? Are you sure?"

He snorted and rolled his eyes. "You're the only one here, aren't you? Don't worry. It's sturdy, so even you can't break it."

You laughed softly. Mortefi's tone was light, almost tired. The music flowed softly between the two of you as he finished his tinkering. He slid the box towards you. You picked it up and inspected it. It was made of metal, iridescent and cold. Your fingers traveled over it until you pressed a button on the back. The lid popped up. All of a sudden, the room lit up with a projection of the night sky. You gasped in surprise.

"It's… It's beautiful!"

"This particular child is afraid of the dark. He said that he wanted something to comfort him at night." Mortefi reached over. His hand brushed against yours as he reached over, pressing another button inside of the box. "And it comes with music."

You couldn't help but gasp again. "Mortefi, this is amazing. You're so… gifted. I'm jealous."

"Are you?"

It caught you off guard. Mortefi had never questioned you or your intentions before. He just accepted you and put you to work. His hand covered yours as he pushed the box down to the table. He scooted closer to you. Now your heart was really starting to work in overtime. Mortefi had never acted like this before. What was happening?

He spoke your name with care and quietly. "You do not need to force yourself. I have seen you work. You're always flustered, always looking lost. It's almost every day that I find you making mistakes and growing frustrated with yourself. Why are you here?"

"Why am I… here?"

"Yes."

You blinked in surprise. "Isn't it obvious? It's because I want to be a scientist. Even if I'm not good at what I do, I'm working hard so I'll get better."

"But you can't process the information, can you?" Mortefi asked. His voice was still gentle.

"I mean, I may not be as smart as you or the others, but I'm trying. It's not like I'm getting better at a rapid pace, but I am getting better. Right? I'm working hard and that's all that should matter. Even if I keep failing."

A sigh left Mortefi's lips. He reached up and brushed your cheek with his thumb. You didn't even realize that you were crying. Yes, you were stressed about your current academic status. Has it really been weighing on you this much? Or was it the fact that the man you loved pointed out all your flaws? It's not like people weren't aware of you and your lack of being able to do anything right. So… why did it hurt so much?

You tried to turn your head away. Mortefi wouldn't have it. He stood from his chair and stepped closer to you. His arms wrapped around you and he pressed your head against his chest. The movement felt awkward, as if he wasn't used to doing this. You could feel the heat of his skin and the coolness of his scales. A shuddering breath left you as you continued to cry against his chest.

"It's okay. You don't have to keep doing this to yourself, you know. I see you work so hard and it hurts seeing you always so distraught."

"But I don't want to disappoint-"

"Shush." He hummed, his hand running over your hair. "You won't be disappointing anyone. All you're doing right now is dragging yourself down. Take a long break. Think about what you want. And then decide how to live your life. For yourself."

You whimpered and wrapped your arms around him, hugging him tightly. "I've already gotten used to being around you every day. I don't want to leave."

He chuckled and pulled back slightly. His eyes bore into yours. "Don't be like that. You can still come by. Or, if you want me to, I can come see you when I have time."

There was an odd feeling in your chest. Almost a sense of relief. It felt comforting to hear from Mortefi that it was okay. It was okay to feel like this and it was okay to take a break. You sniffled and blinked back the rest of your tears. Mortefi reached up and cupped your face. His cheeks were a light pink. That was new.

"D-Did you know!" You suddenly blurted out. "That to destress, I like to bake?"

Mortefi's eyes widened. "Really? And why have you never told me?!"

"Ah. I… I never thought I was good enough to share with anyone."

"Well, I'll be the judge of that."

His grip on your cheeks grew firmer. You couldn't help yourself and nuzzled against your touch. The love you felt for Mortefi seemed to have deepened. It no longer felt like infatuation. Now, it felt deeper. To love someone you could rely on and who cares for you. It felt real. And you knew one day you would confess. But now wasn't the time.

"Do you feel better?" 

"A little." You mumbled.

"Good." He pulled his hands back and cleared his throat, sitting back down. The blush on his cheeks grew darker. "Go home. You need to rest after all that crying."

"Yes, Mortefi."

"Have a good night."

In your dreams, the night would have ended with you kissing him. Life isn't like your dreams. But maybe, you could make it that way. You left the building with a warm feeling in your chest. You may have given up something you were a part of for so long. But that didn't mean you had to give up on the other parts of your life. Love was something you could never give up.
