one of my best friends came over last night to help worldbuild for a Mothership campaign im running based on Wolf 359 and had me close my eyes to set up something he brought with him. when i opened them, this screen (that he made himself) was on the table. i've been trying to find the words to describe the feral elation i felt when i first saw it and i KEEP FAILING
#i keep looking over at it and grinning like an idiot#im going to become a forever gm just so that i can use this at every possible opportunity#my players are going to despise me and i can't wait#wolf 359#wolf359#ttrpg#mothership#txt.nap#thank you chekhov

Wistfully thinks of Spellwind, I should make a headcanons up to ep 31 list its just my equivalent of like Skyrim or lotr where theres so much going on and so dense but god damn one of my favorite episodes was when two of my favorite characters became trees and the entire experience was like...they were tripping on shrooms but also one with the shrooms? Its like episode 8
and I love the dms orc captain that hates going on land and is there for the in between transportation from sea to sea land to land ferryman (not really I feel like its mostly hard to narrate and have a character at the same time) I just love captain buttocks' (yeah I'm pretty sure thats his name) humor and how him and djett ('jet') were closer in the beginning
I love ty and varsha together but I also ship smith with them as time went on, I can't tell who I want to joke as the third smith and varsha are friends to lovers, ty and varsha are irritated assholes to lovers, smith is just a jaded old fuck that loves his morons (he respects varsha a lot and thinks ty is an entertaining idiot)
Varsha and Djett are siblings they love each other like family and share different spells and potions and knowledge of interest notes
I feel like the only person really thinking too deeply about this tabletop story and wanted to drop a few lines of appreciation, I like listening to it to go to sleep since its so slow paced and gently spoken and the music and sound efx is so sweet
#spellwind#ttrpg#table story#homebrews are my favorite of genre of story telling right now#its what got me into midnight burger#Spotify knew what kinda creative storytelling I liked and said#pbbt here you go guy you need to listen to more audiodramas without the dice in the mix#the way podcasts can tell stories is so cool#dice rolling#describing everything thats going on in a natural dialogue so that it paints a picture for the person listening as if theyre part of it#like youre in the environment with them it was a really smart way to carve a story and narrative#wolf 359#wolf 395#idk off the top of my head I'm trying out a few episodes but I like how its a blend of that similar storytelling method but like also??#log entries and some conversation between characters which is mostly how midnight burger does it#aaaa I just love audiodramas#and tabletop actual plays#I want so badly to do ttrpgs but this is my live vicarious through the media I consume era until I can find ppl that wanna let me take try#and be a DM#I could totally make engaging stories like the things I listen to#its like execution of the stories that go on inside my head the tones the themes I wanna touch on the emotions I want to convey#at the same time theres a small part of me thats like mehh but they did it already but I can still share that vibe for people that either#have or haven't chewed up the same things I love over and over and over like a maniac#plus I still have my own take and taste and ideas its just a time and place thing#I have a trillion ideas written out I just have to sort them out and do some stitchwork on the canvas that is the blank page#embroidery on those sweet words and patchwork a story ive been brewing in mind#this is slightly a personal ramble about story making#and also a segway into a sideblog thats not 100% midnight burger#I wonder how this blog will evolve over time

In my head, you’re a Magnus Archives blog. I mean, I know you obviously listen to other things, but In my mind it’s things like Welcome to Nightvale, Malevolent, Hello from the Hallowoods, The Sheridan Tapes, things like that, horror and supernatural.
So I had to do a double-take when I saw a Dungeons and Daddies post from you, I really didn’t know you listened to it. Then I see you reblog a Fawx and Stallion post, and now I’m just wondering how many podcasts you’ve listened to that I’ve also listened to.
Hahaha yes this blog has been mainly for tma stuff for years now, I still feel like I'm new to the fandom but honestly I've been here through a lot of it since the beginning of season 5
Buuuuut in the past few months I've stopped going into the tma tag regularly and been feeling a little detached from it, at least as opposed to before. My listen to tmagp has been way less interactive and I hardly reblog content anymore (which is something I like doing but because of various bad experiences on the internet recently I have yet to recover from I feel safer posting my own original posts rather than reblogging)
And that freed up a space in my mind to realize I've actually been listening to a lot of podcasts besides tma and it's honestly a shame not to talk about them more with others
I do listen to a lot of horror fantasy supernatural and science fiction podcasts! I also love a lot of dnd and ttrpg podcasts, I also love everything dropout and wish I could get into critical role but it's so big I don't think I'll manage it
I put under the cut a (quite long) list of the podcasts I have listened to and/or have notifications turned on
Anyone following me, you're welcome to send me an ask about one of them if you like them as well or want to hear about them!
I also put a list of podcasts on my to listen to list. Feel free to drop a recommendation for which them to listen to first!

2024 December Media
Recs bolded.
Books:
Sheri S. Tepper: Grass. Gorgeous sci-fi about Catholicism, plague, monks, weird creatures, complex space aristocracy social dynamics slightly reminiscent of Barrayar but worse, and a lot of horses. The protagonist is a middle-aged Olympic equestrian lady.
Cornelia Funke: Herr der Diebe (The Thief Lord). I'm practicing my German! This is a great middle grade book about orphan kids running around Venice, the atmosphere of the city is so vivid it covers up the occasional plot hole.
Robert Musil: The Man Without Qualities (vol. I). This book is somehow both boring and terrifying. It's set just before WW1, but the protagonists don't know that, and so they keep having long-winded conversations about how nothing ever happens.
Han Kang: Human Acts. A short, visceral, painful book about the 1980 Gwangju Uprising, and the people, (civilians (children)) who were killed in it. Fiction, heavily based on non-fiction historical research.
Mercedes Lackey: Magic's Price (Last Herald Mage III). The previous two books in this fantasy trilogy weren't good either, but they were at least fun. This one wasn't.
Vivian Shaw: Bitter Waters (Greta Helsing 3.5). Sweet, beautifully written, ultimately plotless addition to the series.
vol 1. of that weird Stalin-era world literature anthology I impulse bought at the second-hand bookstore and am occasionally reading on the toilet to stop myself from doomscrolling.
Films:
Louis Theroux: Tell Them You Love Me. A masterful, disturbing documentary of the Anna Stubblefield case. Trigger warning for... everything, but especially rape, ableism, and horrible people genuinely believing they're in the right.
John Palfreman: Frontline. Prisoners of Silence. After watching the documentary above, I got obsessed with the failure of facilitated communication, and had to watch this one-hour documentary on it. It's thirty years old, so expect some not-so-great language on autism, but the overall points stand.
Kenji Kamiyama: The War of the Rohirrim. Anime vaguely based on Rohan lore in the LOTR appendix. Weak writing, meh plot, middling animation, transparently desperate attempts to recapture the glory of the original trilogy, the only saving grave was Olwyn and her capacity to pass the Bechdel test.
Starkid: Working Boys. Fun short film about Prof Hidgens trying to stage a musical, set in the Hatchetfield universe. Multiverse? Idk anymore.
Podcasts:
Jo Walton, Ada Palmer: Ex Urbe Ad Astra. Two brilliant writers talk about history and fiction, sometimes with guests. They never talk down to the audience and that feels amazing, even when I don't get what they mean at all.
Friends at the Table: Live at the Table. The FaaT gang plays a whole bunch of one-offs and short campaigns. They try a dozen different TTRPGs in a dozen different settings, not all of them work equally well, but sometimes you can listen to them create the best wordbuilding out of thin air.
Gabriel Urbina: Wolf 359 (season 2). Captain Lovelace arrives, space comedy is now officially a space dramedy. Still works well on relisten.
Shelved by Genre: Last Herald Mage unit. These guys are a great read-along book podcast, even when they are reading a book I hate, because they dissect it in really interesting ways.
Gabriel Urbina: Dracula. The Danse Macabre. I'm conflicted, this adaptation of Dracula has tons of great ideas, but they don't gel. The condensed plot isn't really intelligible unless you've read the original novel and know it pretty well, but if you know the novel that well, the arbitrary changes are far more likely to annoy you.
Theatre
Starkids: VHS Christmas Carols. (online ticket) An eighties-style musical adaptation of The Gift of the Magi, The Little Match Girl and The Christmas Carol. Takes itself surprisingly seriously for how funny it is. May be the second best adaptation of Christmas Carol out there.
Sándor Zsótér: Bertolt Brecht: Round Heads and Pointed Heads. A gorgeous studio production of one of Brecht's lesser-known plays. There's no point in me recommending this, because there's no way you guys can come here and watch it, but it was legitimately one of the funniest, most moving, most upsetting things I've seen this decade.

Hi gang! I've had this blog since high school, but somewhere in college it fell into disuse and disrepair. I've been itching to get back on here, as a space on the internet that's not...ya know *gestures at the Twitter-sized elephant in the room*. But I also wanted to go in with a fresh coat of paint and reintroduce myself to y'all, maybe even make some new friends (or enemies. That could be hot.) A lot has changed!
Wait, why do I follow you?
Statistically, you followed me because of Wolf 359! I was big into podcasts back in the day, WTNV, Wolf 359, all those. I also wrote some Wolf 359 fics and was semi-active on the discord. Still fondly remember the show and might reblog fanart once in awhile, but it's not the direction this blog's going to go, so feel free to unfollow if what up I'm to now isn't your jam.
What's this blog about now?
Wouldn't you like to know, weatherboy? Frankly, I'm ADHD as fuck, so that'll vary by the day, but I have a few fandoms (do we still say fandoms in the year of our lord 2023???) that I've been into lately.
Dimension 20: I started watching D20 a little less than a year ago, and it entirely took over my life. It's just a series that's so robustly funny, wonderfully told, and never fails to make me smile. I'm especially fond of ACOC and Fantasy High.
Dracula Daily: I'm in this shit for the long haul! I think Lucy and Mina should kiss, but that's neither here nor there.
Game of Thrones/HotD: This show ended in a trash fire, but it literally lives in my head rent free. The political intrigue, the drama. Ugh. I'm a targ girlie through and through, so I've been eating up HotD, though it's nowhere near as good imo. Am also currently reading the 1st ASOIAF book.
YA lit/Whatever I'm reading/watching: I've read almost 50 books this year so far, and am frankly, insane. Bonus points for queer reads! Not many people to talk about books to irl, so might ramble about them on here instead. Also watch a lot of random TV drama and some anime.
Writing: I'm a fanfic writer, and a fiction writer in general, so I'll post stuff about writing--complaints, story snippets, link to my fics, etc! Headcanons and all will be found here. I've also copyedited before, which is like writing but if you get even more nitpicky about it.
Personal/Whatever the hell I feel like/My D&D Games: Life happens and sometimes you want to scream into the void. Ramblings, jokes, whatever. I transed my gender in the past few years and sometimes I'm mad about it! I also just graduated college! Madness! I play a lot of TTRPGs, and I'm usually on brainrot for one of my characters at any given time.
Why's your new username that?
One of my favorite book series is The Scholomance by Naomi Novik, and in the series, Maleficaria are the horrifying monsters that threaten to kill the students every day, and what is tumblr if not a place full of vile, evil beings? Plus, it means you all can call me Mal.
Anything else?
Nope! Other than to feel free to drop me a line and say hello, especially if you want to scream about D20. I'm p alone in this brainrot irl, so I'm pretty much always down to talk about the Bad Kids... especially Adaine and Fabian. I'm also always down to take fic suggestions in my asks! This show genuinely lifts me up when I'm down, so sharing it with people is one of my favorite things.
My fics (shortlist):
In Sweetness, There is Violence: Angsty ACOC one-shot about if Ruby had made a different choice in the finale. Obligatory Caramelinda Caramelinda-ing.
the words i speak are wildfires: A HOTD one-shot I intended to be smut, that ended up instead being more like a romantic sapphic moment of healing between Alicent and Rhaenyra. What can I say? I like childhood friends to enemies to lovers.
Stay Stellar: An unfinished (and, very likely, discontinued) 15-chapter high school AU for Wolf 359 that I wrote with an old friend. Featuring some truly crazy shenanigans, a lot of embarrassing Kepcobi moments, and a surprising amount of theatre.

Wolf 359 TTRPG session one recap! Putting under cut as it shall be long. A lot happened. (Includes spoilers for wolf 359)
(Context)
So season 1 is kinda difficult bc most of the situations Eiffel ends up in he puts himself in, so I have to move things around somewhat. I’ve decided to start on episode 3, giving Hart the goal of avoiding Hilbert’s physical exam.
First it said it was busy listening to static, and proceeded to ramble to Hilbert about how much it loved listening static— the different types of static, etc— until he went away.
When Hilbert came back, the player had the most Eiffel idea I’ve ever heard, and proceeded to tell Hilbert that “yeah I’m still busy, I know I should be done by now but I think I heard something? It was just for a second, I’m still trying to get back the signal, I don’t know.” He tried to get out of a medical exam by claiming he’d made first contact
This idea was so wonderful that I almost let it work, before I remembered that if Hilbert believed it he’d try to murder the entire crew, so I had Hilbert ask Hera and find out it was a lie.
(Between these interactions, Hart was having conversations with Minkowski that went basically the same way as in the episode, to the point where I managed to mostly just reuse her dialogue verbatim. This is the episode where the plant monster is introduced, if you don’t remember)
Then Hilbert came to the comms room and Hart said what he’d actually heard is the plant monster, and he needs to help Minkowski with that. Hilbert accepted this— Hart kept rolling super well, I don’t think it failed a single roll the entire session— and went away
Then on Minkowski’s insistence Hart went down to help her with the plant monster (unlike Eiffel, it listened to her and actually brought a flamethrower). She told it to help her kill it, the player reached for the dice and then went “wait what am I trying to do?”
To which I begrudgingly said “killing a plant monster?” Bc he had a flamethrower, he could do it. “I mean. If that’s what you’re trying to do. I don’t know, you tell me.”
It hesitated and then asked if it could try to talk to it first! Then after some very good dice rolls Hart befriended the plant monster, but convinced it to pretend to continue being aggressive to the crew so that the physical exams would be cancelled.
Blessie!!! He’s befriended Blessie! Blessie’s on their side now!!! (I’m not sure what this is gonna do to the significant amount of episodes in which the plant monster tries to kill them or whatnot)
So Hart succeeded in its goal. I had intended to also include the intro of the alien music, so I asked if Hart actually ended up listening to static today, but he said nah
“Haha, imagine if the one day I don’t is the day we would’ve made first contact,” he said, and I smiled knowingly, and proceeded to say the words “smiling knowingly” out loud bc he wasn’t picking up on my knowing smile.
#wolf 359#wolf 359 ttrpg#not yet sure what session 2 will be! shall definitely try to get the music in there but I don’t want that to be the Main Thing#I’m so happy he befriended the plant monster tho. I’m soooo happy#definitely gonna make sure he has at least a Chance of saving it from Kepler when we get to that

Characters: Seven of Nine, Liam Shaw, OC (mentioned)
Pairing: Liam Shaw x OC (gn)
Transfer of Command
Captain Shaw, most recently of the USS Titan, sat up in the bio-bed of what had been his ship. He had no regrets giving Seven the field commission and transferring the ship to her. Not that he could have made the computer recognize the transfer at the time. Fucking Borg bullshit. But that, he realized when he thought he'd die, no longer meant *former* Borg. It certainly hadn't meant the literal (to him) children on his ship. Still. No regrets.
"Sir," Seven's voice yanked him out of contemplation. "I'm glad to see you're awake and doing," she hesitated, "Better."
He had a suspicion what she was here to do. "Don't "
"Sir?"
"The ship. You're her captain more than I ever was" he said matter of fact. "Don't you dare give her back Captain Seven of Nine." He used her name to her face for the second time in their years together on the Titan. "She was always yours."
"Sir I don't understand. Protocol-"
Raising a hand he stopped her, "Can't believe I'm about to say this but, fuck protocol." A long and strangely uncomfortable silence stretched between them. "Do you know how I met my spouse?"
Seven shook her head. It was clear from her furrowed brow and pinched lips she didn't understand the relevance. Every one knew that Captain Shaw was married even if he didn't wear a ring, his spouse hadn't believed in them he said. Wasn't a part of their culture.
Clearing his throat he explained, "I'll give you the short version since they're en route via shuttle with the kids, who I understand very much need hugs from their father. Anyway," he got on with it, "Commander Taris, then a freshly minted by all of an hour lieutenant, was on the ship that rescued my life pod at Wolf 359. I met them a handful of times when the fleet limped back to earth after that fight. Including when one of my Vulcan crew mates decided to pick a fight with Star Fleet's only Romulan crewman. They were nothing but polite and Vash didn't swing first but they sure as hell put Ensign An'ris on his ass and refused to press any of charges. Trauma, they said would do that. They understood. Turns out I'd developed an infatuation with a Junior Counselor as a result - and no, I wasn't one of her patients. Well, three duty stations, a lot of dating both in person and long distance and a couple promotions later and I proposed. We have three little pointy eared angels who every day I have to remind are loved and perfect as they are. Why? Because people still treat my spouse like they are the enemy despite the fact that they have literally bled for both the Federation and Earth. My kids see the toll it's taken on their parents. So what I'm saying, Seven, is that I should have carried forward what Vashti and those kids teach me every day in how I treated you and the other former Borg. I'm sorry and you deserved better," Begrudgingly he added, "Picard too; though my issues with him and Riker extend beyond the Borg shit."
The former Borg swallowed, blinking at him confused. "Sir? I...um...thank you," she arrived at those two words carefully.
He cleared his throat and spoke again, "So, let's make this official," he clapped his hands together, rubbing them, "Computer, transfer command to Captain Seven of Nine. Authorization Code Shaw 12-11- Bravo-Delta."
---
Notes: Commander Vashti "Vash" Taris is a Romulan defector who joined Starfleet before/early in TNG. They would be approximately the same age as Captain Shaw. The one in this story is based on my PC for the Star Trek TTRPG that made it exactly one session. (RIP) That story/game was meant to take place during the Dominion War; I figured they'd have had the personality that could handle Shaw's and having a Romulan partner plus some half-Romulan kiddos made sense. After all, I bet money a Romulan would be treated at least as strangely if not outright poorly compared to Worf during TNG/DS9/VOY.

BRACKET REVEAL
Alright. At long last, I present to you the bracket...or should I say...*BRACKETS* for the Virtual Character Tournament!
Given the scale, the first round is going to be one bracket per week, 4 a day, with each lasting 24 hours. I know that this is still tight, but given how many contestants there are, along with the necessary inclusions of images and propaganda (oh and I guess also my job), it's what I can do to keep this semi-manageable. There's also no redemption round this time. It's gonna be a single elimination tournament. Be kind to your peers. This is not but a drop in the infinite ocean of the internet.
...oh yeah the brackets themselves. We'll be going in order over the course of 4 weeks. I'll make proper announcements for them as they commence. Given how many there are and what I want to get done beforehand, Bracket 1 will likely begin some time this week. But for the matchups...

2024 art summary
It's been a wonderful year for Pinks and Blues. In honor of probably the most creatively active and fulfilled I've ever been since 2018, I figured I'd make a blog style recap. This is a blog after all.
I did a 6 page colored comic, did an animatic (another full colored MV in the works. More on that later) and discovered that I LOVE making things move. Comics, I love you, but I think my passion lies in the gratification of making videos.
I also cleaned up my itch.io page and uploaded a digital sketchbook! It's mostly reflection ttrpg related. Participated in two more zines (Marcanne zine and Empower Zine) this year, oh me oh my.
I also did some artfight! Wahoo to artfight!
I ran a TTRPG session for the first time?????
I mean I played many ttrpgs as a player before, but GM-ing?? This was me swimming in uncharted waters, at least for me. I have been going about making a ttrpg from scratch, but how could I do that if I haven't played every game I could get my hands on, or at the very least, get over my stage fright and RUN A GAME.
After mulling over the idea of wanting to run a game for years, I finally gathered the courage to do it when I found Sentiment TTRPG.
What is the Sentiment system? Sentiment is a tabletop roleplaying game with a focus placed squarely on the emotions and complexity of each character without too much mechanical bloat. The goal of the game is to give players tools to understand their characters as people and to give all participants an understanding of the other characters at the table. And then it's also built to, if you so wish, put those characters in incredibly stressful or dramatic situations just to see what happens. How does it work? It’s an ultra flexible ttrpg system using d20s, d6s and the primary colors. Sentiment is a system that handles combat quickly and entertainingly, but the focus of this game isn’t just big climactic battles. Those same rules can easily and elegantly handle sled races. Fishing competitions. Jousting on the moon.

Here's the blurb for my own campaign if you're curious:
On an asteroid far away, 4 crew members get dropped off with the mission of building a restock station 7.8 light-years away from Earth.
Uses Sentiment system rules. Content warnings: heavy workload, death by asphyxiation, death by crushing, and drowning.
So I gathered up my bowels, rolled up my sleeves and decided to port a mixture of mechanics from Oxygen Not Included, Chicken Invaders, Wolf 359, and Signalis into the Sentiment system and see how it worked.
My conclusion? It went well!!! I feel very fulfilled. I'd probably run another similar game that is set in either the water, or the desert. I have a few ideas for those already. Possibly going to run a Heart: The City Beneath campaign. That could be something for 2025 me to write about.

Animatics
It all started with a Spiderverse edit by JaQenka. It was set to an audio clip of Americano by Lady Gaga.
I recall working really hard on my college paper at the time and was just about fed up with it that I started sketching out really cool scenes from me and my friends' written reflection ttrpg roleplay. I told my friend "hey. Give me a deadline. Make sure I get this done by Wednesday." and I took off.
youtube
One day I'll polish this, but for now I am sooo happy with how it turned out. Like oh my god the transitions?? The coffins popping up as soon as Rosetta and Finn clashed blows?? The.. BULLETS RICOCHETING??? maybe I should endeavor to be a VFX artist.
Anyways, while we're still on the topic of Animatics here's what you ought to look forward to, Animation-wise

Animation
After my very ambitious endeavor with Americano FlowC animatic, I set my sights onto tackling a New ambitious endeavor. This time instead of being OC focused, I plan to highlight the Reflection's main characters and what they did in Act 1. It will be set to the music of the RPG meme. Kind of like a Promotional Video of sorts, as a way to give back to the many things this show and the Stabbyness crew inspired me to do.
The reason why I talk about it is because I have been working on it for 2 months as of writing this and I'm pretty committed to making it real. Here's what I have to show for it. Currently in various stages of thumbnailing, compositing, and style tests.
For 2025, hopefully* released around the time Act 3 of Reflection TTRPG drops.
*I say hopefully. because as of Writing this (november 25th), apparently I am also writing a school paper that's taking up all of my time and energy. (future pen editing this here: Yeah... No that's too hopeful. I'll try anyways).

Solitare Deck
Various side projects are being worked on while I am studying for college. One of them is the custom card deck for my RP group.
Occasionally pausing them while I power through commission work. Me and my friends discussed what our characters would likely be on a solitare deck and made a list. The deck, as I show it to you, is unfinished.
With hope, I will continue to make them as 2025 goes on. Art is a continuous process, after all.

Bluesky
So let's talk about twitter. I had an account that I ran from 2018. It's how I found and met the friends I talk to now.
A few years ago, I stopped doing Homestuck art. This is for numerous reasons, the main one being is that "I am not having fun anymore."
Coupled with the undesirable side-effects of twitter's new ownership meant that all the growth in numbers that i had are null and void; No one interacts with my interests, art posts, no one reblogs, retweets, or expresses their appreciation for other artists (I comment on every post I can that has touched me, which I encourage people to do).
I also found out that I got shadowbanned for not posting on twitter for a year. So like, okay, I cannot be found. What now?
I needed a fresh start. And I've been getting a good of a start as any on Bsky. I've been getting to talk to new people there and have fun and praise people for showing their works to me, and IN TURN I get inspired.
It's my wish that people continue to talk and talk and talk and talk the good talk. Please be respectful, and please encourage each other. That's the kind of world I want to live in.
Closing Words
I want to mention that even though I posted a lot of my own Visual art here, I've been writing just as much in private.
I've decided that I wanted to revisit some old darlings of my past--namely Bakugan -- and incorporate new things into my worldview (dungeon meshi, witch hat atelier, amphibia, gundam unicorn) and see which sticks
This year has been a year of processing and synthesizing different things. I'm trying my best to consume and digest other peoples' creations and a part of my whole being. Spiritfarer, FFXIV Endwalker, Signalis, Reflection, Look Back, and my own friends' creations. I Love You!!!
You're all a part of me now, a part of my art, and the way I walk, talk, and eat.
It's been a very scary year, a lot of personal things happened that I would rather keep close to my chest. That's super why I am very thankful for all the people who helped me whether it's through inspiring me through their works, or paying it forward by including me in their projects, or even giving me their best wishes. Thank you!
as a person who has had to write a 48-page research paper last month, this post isn't that long to me. But it's long for some, so I thank whoever reached the end.
I'll continue to make art. And I'll continue to Yap. #theYapper ✌
