One of the things I really appreciate in Picard S3 is how the season slowly gave back Voyager to Seven. I get why they didn't in season 1 of Picard and only mentioned Voyager and her Voyager family obliquely -- Seven barely knew the people in La Sirena, and there's no impetus for her to share. The subtlest of nods was a good way to kick it off.
Season 2 has willingly said Janeway's name to Raffi and the context of why she wasn't in Starfleet.
By season 3, Seven is surrounded by the spirit of her old family. The best visual indicator of it all was the silver Voyager Model Seven kept prominently on a shelf in the anteroom of her quarters.

From BTS we also see Tuvok has the same one, and from this, we can infer all Voyager crew have their own models. (I would give them real money if they would sell that Voyager model too!).
It also means wherever Seven was all through the years with the Fenris Rangers Seven carried this tiny Voyager ship around.
In Prodigy Vice-Admiral Janeway has her own Voyager model, but of course, she's not going to be satisfied with a tiny model.

Keeping Jellico in the photo for the Voyager scale.
And of course, the scene in the Fleet Museum:

Featuring the Grand Old Lady herself, USS Voyager. (Hello, Voyager!)

Ends with a proper reunion with Tuvok, the only person other than Janeway who was there for Seven since the beginning:
Tumblr media
I missed seeing them together -- and look at both of them now, in Command Red.
Janeway was the only missing element with an unfortunate thing of production and time getting in the way of Kate Mulgrew being around, as I understand it, she splits her time living in Ireland and the US (I could be wrong!) -- it's also one of the reasons I dearly hope we get a new show with Seven as the main lead. Because I selfishly want Janeway to appear and possibly give Seven her Captain's pins.
I know Jonathan Frakes expressed his wish that Riker be the one to hand out assignments to Seven, and it would make sense if he becomes a newly minted Vice-Admiral. Since Janeway might be higher up in the Command chain at this point.
But I still want Janeway to be the one handing out crucial assignments to Seven and the Ent-G.
So, yeah I hope we get that show but also I'm really glad this season finally brought Voyager back to Seven. It was her home.

Captain Seven of Nine has such a nice ring to it. Can't believe it took this long for Star Trek Voyager to have not one, but two epilogue story arcs. One for Picard and one for Prodigy.
Oh and #SetACourseForSeason3 for Prodigy and #StarTrekLegacy for USS Enterprise-G.

So, I'm going to repurpose this blog a little, because keeping track of all the side-blogs is becoming a little tedious. This started out as a Christopher Pike blog during the second season of Discovery, and much as I love Pike; he's now vying for my affections with two other Starfleet captains - who are as complex (and potentially broken) as he is, but much more snarky. So this is now the Pike/Rios/Shaw blog. I am planning to keep my separate Shaw blog for now because I don't want to lose the posts I've already made, but everything will be reposted here as well. And, Cris gets a home, rather than being orphaned in my junk-drawer blog, which has like 9 followers.
ETA: Updating again; to add Captain Seven of Nine; just a little obsessed with her too. Giving her a shot at being the avatar for a while, to make up for being added late.

Characters: Seven of Nine, Liam Shaw, OC (mentioned)
Pairing: Liam Shaw x OC (gn)
Transfer of Command
Captain Shaw, most recently of the USS Titan, sat up in the bio-bed of what had been his ship. He had no regrets giving Seven the field commission and transferring the ship to her. Not that he could have made the computer recognize the transfer at the time. Fucking Borg bullshit. But that, he realized when he thought he'd die, no longer meant *former* Borg. It certainly hadn't meant the literal (to him) children on his ship. Still. No regrets.
"Sir," Seven's voice yanked him out of contemplation. "I'm glad to see you're awake and doing," she hesitated, "Better."
He had a suspicion what she was here to do. "Don't "
"Sir?"
"The ship. You're her captain more than I ever was" he said matter of fact. "Don't you dare give her back Captain Seven of Nine." He used her name to her face for the second time in their years together on the Titan. "She was always yours."
"Sir I don't understand. Protocol-"
Raising a hand he stopped her, "Can't believe I'm about to say this but, fuck protocol." A long and strangely uncomfortable silence stretched between them. "Do you know how I met my spouse?"
Seven shook her head. It was clear from her furrowed brow and pinched lips she didn't understand the relevance. Every one knew that Captain Shaw was married even if he didn't wear a ring, his spouse hadn't believed in them he said. Wasn't a part of their culture.
Clearing his throat he explained, "I'll give you the short version since they're en route via shuttle with the kids, who I understand very much need hugs from their father. Anyway," he got on with it, "Commander Taris, then a freshly minted by all of an hour lieutenant, was on the ship that rescued my life pod at Wolf 359. I met them a handful of times when the fleet limped back to earth after that fight. Including when one of my Vulcan crew mates decided to pick a fight with Star Fleet's only Romulan crewman. They were nothing but polite and Vash didn't swing first but they sure as hell put Ensign An'ris on his ass and refused to press any of charges. Trauma, they said would do that. They understood. Turns out I'd developed an infatuation with a Junior Counselor as a result - and no, I wasn't one of her patients. Well, three duty stations, a lot of dating both in person and long distance and a couple promotions later and I proposed. We have three little pointy eared angels who every day I have to remind are loved and perfect as they are. Why? Because people still treat my spouse like they are the enemy despite the fact that they have literally bled for both the Federation and Earth. My kids see the toll it's taken on their parents. So what I'm saying, Seven, is that I should have carried forward what Vashti and those kids teach me every day in how I treated you and the other former Borg. I'm sorry and you deserved better," Begrudgingly he added, "Picard too; though my issues with him and Riker extend beyond the Borg shit."
The former Borg swallowed, blinking at him confused. "Sir? I...um...thank you," she arrived at those two words carefully.
He cleared his throat and spoke again, "So, let's make this official," he clapped his hands together, rubbing them, "Computer, transfer command to Captain Seven of Nine. Authorization Code Shaw 12-11- Bravo-Delta."
---
Notes: Commander Vashti "Vash" Taris is a Romulan defector who joined Starfleet before/early in TNG. They would be approximately the same age as Captain Shaw. The one in this story is based on my PC for the Star Trek TTRPG that made it exactly one session. (RIP) That story/game was meant to take place during the Dominion War; I figured they'd have had the personality that could handle Shaw's and having a Romulan partner plus some half-Romulan kiddos made sense. After all, I bet money a Romulan would be treated at least as strangely if not outright poorly compared to Worf during TNG/DS9/VOY.

Other random Voyager thoughts, one season and 11 or 12 episodes in:
- Janeway rules. I immediately liked her from the first moment she was on camera. Kate Mulgrew has such incredible screen presence.
- It’s a damn shame what happened with Jennifer Lien, because she was one of the better actors on the cast and I’m finding I actually really like Kes a lot more than I expected to, given that…
- …the whole “Ocampa live 9 years and she’s only 2” thing is weird enough; and it gets downright gross in the context of…
- …her ‘romantic’ relationship with Neelix, which seems to be an attempt by the writers to make a relationship just plain wrong at every level they possibly can. Christ, almighty, I cannot STAND jealous Neelix.
- I’m also finding I really like Tuvok more and more as the show progresses.
- That said, after watching through DS9, the writing is, well, a step down in quality. You can tell they took a lot of the things people disliked about DS9 when it was in the air and overcompensated in the opposite direction. I’m only halfway through season 2, so maybe it’ll get better, but right now it just feels like the best it ever gets is about a B+. That said, DS9 and TNG both improved after their first two seasons; maybe this will as well. Then again, I’ve heard quite a few people say it doesn’t. We’ll see.
- I’m seriously considering skipping future Kazon episodes. They are such a boring villain race, especially from a franchise that gave us the Klingons, Romulans, Borg, Cardassians, and Dominion.

Study with seven gives me the slight anxiety that any moment she will look over my shoulder and tell me what I'm doing is wrong.
And i kinda love it.
yanno those white noise sites like rainymood.com or the cafe shop one? i’d like an Enterprise bridge one, please. Soft beeping, maybe some chill version of amok time theme or something, and every now and then the crew calmly issuing orders or reading something sciency. im watching the lights of zetar and this evasive scene? is super calming and i need it on infinite repeat somehow. someone make this happen.

Another Star Trek Legacy side story I would love to happen is for Seven mentoring another headstrong student.
And Seven echoes what B'Elenna told her, and B'Elenna repeats what Janeway had told her. It would be great for this to pass from one woman CO to a newly minted ensign/crew.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It would be fun if B'Elenna would be around when Captain Seven gives this same pep talk to a new ensign.
Alas, I don't think that will happen since Roxann Dawson is done with acting. Still great to imagine.

™ can't erase everything...
Cris Rios, Soji, Elnor, dismissing Borgnes as that “weird shit on the Stargazer”... even downplaying Saffi, by writing them as “broken up”.
However, if Legacy gets greenlit...
Star Trek will have it's first canonically queer starship captain.
