It was a rare moment of impulse that had led Lily to be standing outside the door of Remus' bedsit on a drizzly Tuesday night, a bottle of red in one hand and Stevie Nicks' new album in the other.

It hadn't taken Remus long to open the door, and although he undoubtedly looked more than a little surprised to see her, he hid it quickly behind his characteristic polite and curious smile.

Lily watched his eyes take in the record, the wine, her hair that was undoubtedly unruly from the damp and probably something a little manic in her eyes.

He took a step back, opened the door a little wider and welcomed her inside without a further word.

Lily sat on the floor, back against the sofa, as Remus retrieved two glasses. She poured the wine when he returned and he picked up the record, slipped the vinyl from it's sleeve, placed it on the player and started it with a flick of his wand.

"It's just come out," Lily said, hoping their joint appreciation of Stevie would stand as enough of an explanation as to why she had come.

Remus gave a slight nod, giving nothing away, and sat beside Lily on the floor. Their knees were touching.

Lily stared into her glass, took a sip to steel herself, and said, quietly, "James doesn't know I'm here."

"I figured."

"I know he just wants to keep me and Harry safe. And I love him for that. But sometimes...I don't know...it's suffocating...a love like that."

Remus said nothing for a moment before offering, gently, " He cares very deeply for you."

"I know."

Lily exhaled and closed her eyes. The tendrils of the wine, the closeness of Remus beside her, and the rhythm of the music relaxed her.

She turned, caught Remus' eye and prompted by the unexpected speed of the alcohol's effect, offered, "He misses you, you know."

Her words had an instant effect on Remus. A ghost of something appeared and was rapidly replaced by something constructed and composed as he took a swig of his drink and said, "I doubt that."

Lily hesitated. Her voice caught a little as she ventured, "If you saw him, you'd know."

"Know what?"

There was an irrasicble edge to Remus' voice that cut through Lily's growing tipsiness, giving her pause and stopping her from what she was going to say next.

He needs you. He wants you. He just can't find the words to say.

Lily gave a shrug, the needle on the record skidded to a halt, and she took another draft of her wine in silence.

since asking this question is what got me bullied off of reddit, i wanted to ask my newly beloved tumblr mutuals too. curse of strahd dms (or previous players), have you ever had a party just, outright kill Davian Martikov? my group dragged the old man out of bed in his sleep, killed him in his own fields, and destroyed his soul, making sure he'll never reincarnate. All of this for the crime of... being kinda an asshole to his kids? Not wanting to give up his winery to a bunch of ecoterrorists the party made friends with? so i'm just curious if there's anyone out there who has had similar experiences (or, if it's never happened to you, what sort of consequences you think it would have for your players)
