It came to my understanding that Rahadin is voluntarily on Strahd's side, cause they kinda hate happy people.

Plus Rahadin is an elf, so he will around for quite some time. It's just common sense to hire a castellan for at least 100 years. You have to tell them just once that you are not intersted in changing the drapes or that the ghost (and other strange housefolk) will stay.

I think one of the most vital parts of any curse of Strahd campaign is that when you're establishing the dynamic between your Strahd and Rahadin they both have to be at least a little weird about it
