tfone au where OP is created as the last of the primes but way after them, a sparkling born at what were thought to be the last days of the war against the quintessons, the beginning of a new generation of peace after eons of war. a child meant to be loved and raised knowing nothing of war nor sacrifice.

he's kept mostly out of the spotlight by his siblings, who don't wish to expose him to everyone's optics so young, and want to wait until the war is done and over to properly introduce him to their people.

except of course the primes are betrayed and murdered by sentinel, the war is lost and everyone who knows and cared for the truth is either banished or outright killed in order to suppress it.

and the high guard, the ones the primes trusted the most, the ones that were supposed to protect them, the ones who failed in their most important duty, have to make a choice. to take the last prime, their last hope, with them to the surface, a hostile environment where there's little to no supplies and where they'll be hunted down by both sentinel and the quintessons as the biggest threat to their regimen.

or hide him in plain sight. place him where sentinel won't think to look for him. one more sparkling among many. and hope it will be enough to keep him alive. pray to primus that he'll protect his last child long enough for them to come back for him when it's safer (even if most of them have already lost their faith on him when he allowed the rest of his children to be massacred like that)

they almost lose their resolve when they realize they will have to take the little one's cog away in order to make him blend in with the rest of the newborns (and oh do they burn with murderous intent when they see what sentinel has done to their people but it's not the time yet-) but in the end they decide an impaired little prime is better than a dead one.

and so in the chaos of thirteen dead primes and a sudden energon crisis, a little sparkling who very few mechs really knew about and even fewer had seen completely vanishes. and in the depths of iacon a mech in charge of a new batch of newborns scratches their helm in confusion as they realize they must have miscounted the first time.

optimus prime is quietly erased from any official records by sentinel, written off as dead when they find a sparkling's frame mangled beyond recognition after an attack on the base of those rebels that insist on being a thorn on his side. killing the sparkling hadn't been precisely in his plans, he probably could've found some use for it after all, but he's not particularly upset about it either.

and orion pax grows up with an ache on his spark that tells him he's missing something far more important than a t-cog and dreams of gentle and loving hands, cradling him against the frames of mechs he cannot recall the faces of.

If someone told me last November that a year from then I’d be procrastinating doing anything BUT continuing my playthrough of the newly released dragon age game I’d call them crazy. I’m extremely tolerable to bullshit. The amount of objectively bad media I am able to enjoy is really high. I have been willing to forgive BioWare for a lot of bad game dev decisions. But not for the bad writing. So here we are.

I have not opened the game in a week now. Something broke in me when after 50 hours I finally reached act 2. So many people said it’s supposed to get better starting from that point. But I’m sorry, what exactly got better? Why is the story suddenly just ‘go do your companion quests!’? Where’s the freaking plot???

I can’t get rid of the feeling as if the game has been chopped into pieces at the last minute, rearranged by throwing out like 3/4 of the writing bits and then hastily sewn together.

Bad news: That joke post about including Reset + Orchid is definitely not canon. (I legit got sad thinking about Reset being in a universe where Orchid isn't- because their stories are so so intertwined- but Nightmare 100% would NOT risk the whole twins exploding Error's soul thing.)

Good news: This means I COULD include Kane (Reset's older brother who usually dies in timelines where Reset is born) and use it to develope his character a bit more! Also! Perhaps a Blue × Dream kiddo is finally in the stars for me to design?

people love to use ffxiii’s messy development as a reason to completely shit on the game but honestly the fact they managed to sneak in so many little details in the gameplay in a way that reflects the characters and story despite all the miscommunication between the dev sections is just impressive to me

I started re-watching the SyFy adaptation of American Gods and got about like 5 minutes in and it feels like they didn't get what the book is about . They lean too far into the American imagination to be able to do a good adaptation of a story about the American reality I think.

Like the "coming to America" story of the Vikings in the show feels like it takes it's inspiration more from the violent Game of Thrones influenced Viking show from the mid 2010s than any actual history. I don't know historically accurate either version of the story is, but the one in the book feels grounded in a way the one in the show doesn't.

Like yes this is a story about the myths and beliefs and stories that exist in America. But I think they're leaning too far into being and spreading those stories to be able to be a good adaptation of a story about them. It'll be interesting to see if this holds true as things play out, and how this show stands up as a work of art in it's own right

Like it'd be really fucked up if the reason he stayed and the others either didn't (as in they took a path similar to the books and got out altogether, they're some of the first clones eligible for retirement after all given their service records) is Sev and having to leave him behind. Or maybe the other's have since died. and he's the only one left to keep going. hooooo

you know what. something ELSE about the last herald-mage adaptation that may or may not ever happen is that I wouldn't mind if they didn't actually adapt the books word for word. Not in a "they follow the loose story of the books but change things around for x reason" way, but in a "we're exploring different avenues or facets of Vanyels' life we never got to see in the books" way. like if they made a series filling in the gaps between the three books and covering those huge time skips that expands on the world, and gives us developments on the part of Vanyel's character that we never got to see, I think I would be satisfied with that as long as it's well done. Also, big opportunity for world development when possible, since places outside Valdemar like Karse didn't really get any genuine attention until much later on in the overarching Valdemar series.

There's so much of his story that we never saw because of the time skips! And I feel like there's plenty of room to do something original that way (because of course they're going to want to do something original) while ALSO staying more or less true to the source material without eviscerating it, especially since there's so much in the original books that I think will be very hard to adapt well or even respectfully. I feel like this is something that can totally be done without alienating people who aren't familiar with the original books, while also creating something new and interesting that can stand on its own.

ㅤㅤㅤㅤi know i don’t write renfield or rebecca but i’m changing things around in teddy’s main redemption verse to include more of them because 1) i love them and their dynamic but also 2) teddy being so isolated is making it a lot harder to want to write than anticipated lmao. i’m keeping the idea that renfield brought teddy back to life because he’s too empathetic for his own good but i want him and rebecca to play a more direct role the story so *trumpet noises* i’m assigning them as teddy’s literal parole officers.

instead of teddy sneaking away post-resurrection to deal with everything on his own, both renfield and rebecca are there as it was a choice they made together. renfield wanted to bring teddy back because he knows what it’s like being trapped as a servant to a narcissist, how they make you believe they’re the only one who can love and understand you, and you’ll do anything to please them even if it’s against your own best interest. with dracula and bellafrancesca now out of the picture, he wants to give teddy a second chance to reinvent himself, just like he did. rebecca knows that removed from the influence of bellafrancesca, teddy might not be entirely harmless but he IS kind of pathetic and aimless when he doesn't have someone stronger holding his leash— case in point: the way he immediately folded after his arrest. she's seen his insecurity firsthand and it's the only reason she hasn’t thrown his ass into a jail cell to rot for eternity ( even though she threatens to every single day ).

now, teddy’s been around criminals his entire life. he can recognize a hostage situation when he sees one but he’s also smart enough to realize he doesn’t have any other viable options. his mother is in prison, dracula is gone, he doesn’t actually know what happened to his sister ( hasn’t been able to bring himself to ask ), his finances are frozen, and he’s pretty sure that in the eyes of the government, he’s legally considered deceased. in short, he’s trapped. but while he hates being at the mercy of strangers ( will show his teeth and threaten to bite any hand that comes close ), maybe part of him is relieved he no longer has to try so goddamn hard. it’s complicated and messy and he’s not entirely sure he even knows what it means to ''be a better person'' but renfield seems to truly believe in him and rebecca wouldn’t let him remain cuffless — let alone continue breathing — if she didn’t at least consider it a possibility so… maybe he’s not entirely useless.
