my standards have dropped considerably i think bc just now i thought to myself "man its been a while since ive read a BL where both of the main characters equally drive the plot" and i was dead serious
#duri vs toons#adding checkmate to list of toons that i like but i cant believe i just thought that lol#checkmate definitely stands out in the BL manhwa scene to me but not bc its like exceptionally complex#though i do want to put soohyun in a blender he's the best character ive seen in a while#but bc BLs tend to portray tops as this all knowing all powerful man who is good at everything and saves the day everytime#but in checkmate eunsung though is definitely talented he wouldnt be able to break those students out himself#soohyun takes charge and he isnt this all incredible all according to keikaku either#he's smart but also he's a big fucking dumbass.#and thats what makes it interesting to follow - theres a stake#instead of the usual BL route of top banging it all out and bottom just gets dragged along with the plot#not that i complain abt the other BLs who follow that route i know what im getting into. its just checkmate is so refreshing to me. love it!
