I was searching the upstairs closet for a lightbulb and I came across what is basically the "lgbtqia+ Millennial who likes to read starter pack." Gotta say, I didn't realize I still had any Silver Gryphon t-shirts left. Takes me back to being a teenager =]

you know what. something ELSE about the last herald-mage adaptation that may or may not ever happen is that I wouldn't mind if they didn't actually adapt the books word for word. Not in a "they follow the loose story of the books but change things around for x reason" way, but in a "we're exploring different avenues or facets of Vanyels' life we never got to see in the books" way. like if they made a series filling in the gaps between the three books and covering those huge time skips that expands on the world, and gives us developments on the part of Vanyel's character that we never got to see, I think I would be satisfied with that as long as it's well done. Also, big opportunity for world development when possible, since places outside Valdemar like Karse didn't really get any genuine attention until much later on in the overarching Valdemar series.

There's so much of his story that we never saw because of the time skips! And I feel like there's plenty of room to do something original that way (because of course they're going to want to do something original) while ALSO staying more or less true to the source material without eviscerating it, especially since there's so much in the original books that I think will be very hard to adapt well or even respectfully. I feel like this is something that can totally be done without alienating people who aren't familiar with the original books, while also creating something new and interesting that can stand on its own.

Update on my Last Herald-Mage cross stitch pattern!

I made this post with my original version, but I decided the pattern was too small, so I remade it larger and more detailed!

Like before, I took the embroidery from Vanyel's Whites in Magic's Promise.

Then, after making the pattern (and I'm skipping that whole process because it was A Lot™), I had to choose colours, so I pulled out all the shades that might work and got to testing!

Then I picked two options I liked and tested them out. I chose the more true gold even if it doesn't match the art exactly, because I figure gold would have been a colour Whites would likely be embroidered with over a type of bronze.

And thus, a pattern was born! (Original image for reference)

I'm test stitching it now. Will report back 🫡

Update on my Last Herald-Mage cross stitch!

I've been very slow recently since I haven't been cross stitching a lot. I always do it at least once a week for a few hours during dnd, but I often do it during the week while watching video essays or listening to audiobooks as well (I just haven't, rip).

I know I'm looking for an INFINITESIMALLY small demographic here but did anyone else read The Last Herald Mage books (by Mercedes Lackey, you should totally read them if you haven't yet) and then later read specifically Owlsight by Mercedes Lackey and Larry Dixon and get fucking FLASHBACKS to Vanyel's books? [spoilers for both books ahead] Like they say "Yeah Darian's really traumatized so his Mindspeech gift could totally go from normal to wide open super fast" and I'm sitting there as images of Vanyel's attempted suicides and Jaysen sitting at his bedside and Y'fandes curled around him protectively in a cave flash through my head. Like when I said that book gave me PTSD I was supposed to be JOKING. What the fuck. Anyway this happen to anybody else?
