I never got to have one as a kid, but I would go fucking bananas for this thing every time the commercial came on.

Obviously as a child I just accepted the world I knew as what the world had always been but it has stuck with me lately that the 80s were the dawn of a whole new era of advertising and selling directly to children, thus my brothers and I were among the first test subjects.

I think I'm fairing better than many in my generation where consumerism is concerned but it's undeniable that those changes to TV back then had lasting impact on me as a human.
