whats your favourite narnia book if you have one
Since I grew up as an autistic christian, I have many Narnia Opinions!
So, my favorite book for it's own reasons is probably The Magician's Nephew. I'm always a slut for worldbuilding and backstory and that novel is basically just only that. Some guy we know from another book goes on an adventure and in the process gets to be involved with the creation of one world and the destruction of another? kick-ass.
Best book to adapt? The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. 1988 BBC version, 1979 Cartoon version, 2005 theatrical? All good, in their own ways. The BBC version is just perfectly 80s and the costumes are amazing (because they are costumes! they did all the monsters by sticking a guy in a big costume and I love it), the cartoon version captures the fucking whimsy of a story where SANTA SHOWS UP AND GIVES EVERYONE PRESENTS and the first person to offer any serious lore about the situation is named MR BEAVER. And the 2005 film has the big battles and CGI and Tilda Swinton as the White Witch which is... so much. I love them all.
But the best book adaptation is the 1990 BBC The Silver Chair. Hands down. It's got Tom Baker's Puddleglum, Warwick Davis playing an owl, 0£ BBC budget greenscreened giants (MULTIPLE TIMES), a group of people discovering IT'S A COOKBOOK and one of them being offended by the cookbook saying they don't taste very good, the bad guy turning into a giant rubber snake. a witch trying to gaslight some humans into believing the sun is a myth, and the ultimate salvation of Eustace Scrubb: a boy who almost deserved being named that.
And since I can't not list basically everything Narnia ever made, BBC's 1989 Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is pretty good too. It's a fun "road movie", in that it's an odyssey into a fictional Mysterious Ocean of Here There Be Dragons.
Lotta hits in that one. It's also got a "collect the macguffins!" plot where they're trying to collect the Seven Lost Lords.
But yeah, it's like... the first Island gets them a lord and they get to end slavery. Next up, Dragon TF island (The dragon is Greed... but it's also just a literal fucking dragon). Next, Gold TF island. Gold, it turns out, makes you go insane in your lust for wealth, even if you're already a Prince of a whole country. The gold is Greed, but it will also just fucking kill you because you'll be turned into gold.
Then it's the island of the ugly invisible one-foot guys and it turns out they cast a spell to turn invisible so no one could see how they're ugly but they're not ugly, they just think they are? and then it goes "HEY LUCY COMPARE YOURSELF TO YOUR OLDER SISTER" and she's like "I'm ugly.... unlike her. Maybe I should use magic to STEAL HER BEAUTY?!" and it's like, wow. Is there maybe a theme here about self-esteem in your appearance? and Clive Officemax Lewis is over there going I'LL NEVER TELL.
Anyway it's got the good line about how the Wizard in charge of the ugly invisible one-footed pogo-idiots is that how he eagerly awaits the day that they can be ruled by wisdom, instead of magic. It's a fun approach to magic: it's something that is a shortcut, a crutch, and it's a poor replacement for Wisdom, even when used by "the good guys". Tell me, Mr. FedexKinkos-Lewis, do you have any opinions on the complicated relationship between Christianity and magic? oh, you do? I never would have guessed!
They also find The Island Where Dreams Come True. They don't land there, they just fish a screaming man out of the ocean who is trying to escape it. The sailors hear it's The Island Where Dreams Come True and are like "wow, I could have my own ship!" and he yells no, you fools, not dreams like your wishes and imaginations, your actual dreams come true on this island.
and everyone agrees: Get us the fuck away from this island and lets never return.
Anyway I'm not gonna talk about THE ENTIRE MOVIE/BOOK but it's got a great weirdness at the end where they reach the end of the world (which is flat. It's okay, this is Narnia, a completely different world with different physical rules than Earth), and it's a waterfall, but a waterfall going up?
It turns out Heaven is on the other side of it. They turn around, but the anthropomorphic mouse is like "ehh, I'll take that journey" and becomes the Elijah of Aslan's Country, their equivalent of heaven.
Narnia, won't you?

[Read by Catherine Tate.]
"Just take a look at this view!" Donna cried. The Doctor joined her at the window. "I mean what a view," Donna exclaimed. "I've never seen anything like it!"
"I have," replied the Doctor softly. "And so have you."
"The sun, flaming red and gold, across white mountain peaks and crystal valleys? I don't think so!" said Donna.
"And down there?" he asked, pointing.
"What?"
"Down there."
"Where down there?" she asked.
"There down there," he snapped.
"Well, that's– Oh my God!" she said.
"Chiswick?" he suggested.
"That's Chiswick!" she squawked. "What is Chiswick doing down there?"
"In a crystal valley below white mountain peaks above which the sun is flaming red and gold, you mean?" he asked.
"Yes."
"Well, that's the real question," the Doctor replied.
He opened the window latches, slid the pane aside, and reached out. His fingers touched something invisible and the view, mountains and Chiswick alike, rippled like water.
"It's a telesensual holocunation," he said as he closed the window.
"A what? You're just getting me back for the plywood thing, aren't you?" said Donna.
"It's feeding off our thoughts," he said. "It's bleeding our memories. And replicating a composite view to make us both feel at home."
"'It'? Who's 'it'?"
"This building," the Doctor said.
Donna looked at him. "Wait, I'm checking... nope, I don't understand what you're saying."
"Neither do I," he replied with a fragile grin. "It's just a hunch."
"How is it making us both feel at home?" she asked.
The Doctor pointed down at Chiswick. "That's you, Donna Noble," he said. He raised his hand and pointed at the mountains. "And that's me."
"You?"
"That's Gallifrey."
Donna opened her mouth. "That's what it looked like?"
"Yes," he said.
"It's so beautiful!"
"Yes, it was," he replied. "It really was."

Tom Daley models jumper he's been knitting at Paris Olympics
Tom Daley isn’t just an Olympic champion. The gay British diver is also a talented knitter.
When he hasn’t been up on the board going for medals at Paris, Tom Daley has spent his downtime in the stands with his needles and wool.
The Olympics aren’t even finished yet but Tom has revealed that he’s already finished knitting his latest creation – a special Paris Olympics commemorative jumper.
Tom’s jumper is in the shades of red, white, and blue to match both Tom’s UK flag and the Paris flag, with the intricate Eiffel Tower Paris 2024 logo across the front.
Tom knitted his initials “TD” on one sleeve and the number 5 on the other to represent the Olympians’s fifth time competing in the Olympics.
He showed off his work – which you can see more on Tom’s separate knitting Instagram account – in new videos on social media.

Tom Daley won silver medal at Paris Olympics
Last week, Tom Daley and his British diving partner Noah Williams won silver in the men’s synchronised dive at the Paris Olympics.
His first silver medal is his fifth, completing Tom’s set alongside his three bronze and the gold medal he picked up in Tokyo.
After winning gold, Tom took a long break from the sport.
But the British star said he returned for one reason – to impress his six-year-old son Robbie.
“Robbie was like, ‘Papa, I want to see you dive in the Olympics’. And that was that,” Tom told BBC Sport last week.
“When your kid asks you to do something, you do it.”

Tom Daley’s husband Dustin Lance Black and their two sons Robbie and Phoenix cheered Tom on at the Paris Aquatics Centre.
“Doing it in front of my son who asked me to come back is so special. He’s six years old now and I think he might remember some of this,” Tom told BBC Sport.
“I now have [medals] of every colour, I’ve completed the set.”

Afterlife exists in BBC Merlin and we all know that since we've seen a lot of ghosts, raised corpses, spirits etc etc.
But it is interesting how those souls look like in the real world. How does afterlife affect them? Because they are all different, I believe that real life events shape their forms. Their past affect them after death.
One of the first souls we see is Ygraine, summoned by Morgause. She died before the show but it is known that everyone loved her. She was kind, careful and, as she said, she would give up her life again for Arthur.
Here she is. She looks almost alive. She's in gold colors, glowing in light of all those candles. She can even touch Arthur as she hugged him earlier. She was pure. Her soul was pure.
She was summoned by magic and died because of magic.
_____________________________
And this is how Uther looks like.
He looks like a ghost. Like a deadman in black clothes. He is there to kill people. To make their lives worse. There is no warmth from him, there is no light around him. All the candles were off the moment he appeared. If Ygraine was ready to die again for Arthur, Uther was ready to kill Arthur if that helped him regain 'Camelot's honor'.
He died in the castle and appeared in the castle.
What if he looks so creepy because of that blue-ish white filter?
____________________________
Well, this is how Balinor looks like.
He also has this blue-ish filter. But that's all. He looks pretty much alive or if it was a nighttime. Nothing has changed in him after his death (only the colors). And he is glowing.
We see him in the Crystal Cave, surrounded by magic light. Because, after all, he was a sorcerer himself.
Even his clothes. Nothing changed in him. Despite having such a cold colors he looks somehow warm. He is there to help Merlin, his son. He is there to give hope.
So yes, after all of it, I believe that afterlife does affect the way the souls look like and how they appear.

One-shot Fandom Scene Breaks
These are the scene breaks for fandoms that I've only written one or two fics for, or a single scene break covers multiple fics. (Basically, the fandoms it's not really worth it to make an entire post for.)
A couple of these, actually, I have written a fic in that fandom, but that fic doesn't actually have any scene breaks. I sort of made them as a bit of a just in case, but, also, because I was having fun.
As per previous scene break posts, these were created because I wanted fun scene breaks that were screen reader-friendly at AO3. The images on AO3 are smaller than the versions shared here—I like the larger versions that let you see a bit better the specifics that aren’t always visible in the smaller versions—and due to the coding I use, they only exist when you have creator’s style on, and cannot be viewed as an image.
First up, James Bond. Since my only fic in the fandom is shippy, and I don't see myself doing any non-shippy fics, I just went right for the shippy break, with the text 00Q in a font that's vaguely digital, and them a silhouette of a gun on the left and a silhouette of a Bond next to a vertical 007. All kept black, outlined in grey, with a red shadow, because I just went for it, with this one, lol
BBC Merlin has two. This first one I edited an existing scenebreak (the second image above) of a silhouetted dragon in flight against a moon with calligraphy swirls out to either side for my monster Merlin fic; I edited to add blue to the interior of the calligraphy lines and outline them in red. (There is not a larger version of this break, as it's an older edit, from before I was saving larger sizes.)
Second BBC Merlin break is the Camelot shield of a gold dragon on a red field, with green swirling vines going out to either end, outlined in gold.
For Detective Conan/Magic Kaitou, we have Kid's white top hat with a blue band, above Conan's red bowtie. With swirling vines that are a pale blue outlined in white because, well, magic. If I ever manage to finish my longer DCMK piece, I'll probably create a different scene break for it. Or, at least, an alternate one, which can be used when Conan is Shinichi. Maybe. We'll see.
Neither of the two Yuri!!! On ICE ficlets I've done needed any scene breaks, but I decided to make one anyway, just to pad out this batch a bit. Skates in blue to either side of a figure skater in purple.
Only Star Trek ficlet, again, didn't need any scene breaks, but made this one, anyway. It's a silhouette of the USS Enterprise from TOS, coloured shades of grey, with a blue medical badge and a gold command badge to either side, because you will take McKirk from my cold, dead hands.
The Witcher! Using the wolf's head variant from the games, because that's the version that'll always be the correct one, to me, not the variation they're using in the show. It's grey outlined in red, but the grey was too limited, disappeared at smaller sizes, so it really just looks like it's done red. Swords to either side, with the one on the left notably lighter that the one on the right, to indicate one as being a silver sword, while the other is steel.
Done exactly one CBS Elementary fic, which was a yuri hate-sex fic between Joan and Moriarty. Which was fun, but, again, no scene breaks. Not sure I'll ever do any other fic in this fandom, tbh For this one, skyline of New York City, where the show takes place, coloured like a sort of golden sunrise, because I went looking for images of the logo to try to get a reasonable font and realised they were often shades of gold. So, did the background of the skyline in the shades of gold and left the text of ELEMENTARY in black.
This one is meant for Tamora Pierce's Tortall series, because I did a fic in that fandom, uh, gods-awful forever ago, and it did have scene breaks, stumbled over it while I was working on the Marvel set, not sure how. Blue jewel in the centre, for the Dominion Jewel, and swords to either side, slightly different hilts, with the one on the left outlined in blue, for Jon, and the one on the right outlined in purple, for Alanna. I originally thought to have the sword on the left outlined green for George and the Jewel outlined blue for Jon, but then I reread the fic and realised I hadn't included George in it, for whatever reason. (Idk, 2001!me surely had a reason? Assuming George was at Pirate's Swoop, I'd guess.) So I decided to just have Jon and Alanna with swords. Couldn't remember what shade of green George's Gift was, anyway.
And then, since I'd already done a break for one of my very, very old fics, it made sense enough to make a couple of breaks for Yu-Gi-Oh! (Planning to do some for my Digimon fics, too, but that can be a project for later, probably after redoing the SW set.)
First one, the Kaiba Corporation's KC logo, in blue, in the centre, with the duellist field arm things Seto created. Used this one for all of my fics that had the focus on Seto, Mokuba, and/or Noa.
Second one, all of the Millennium Items: left to right: the Key, the Scales, the Eye, the Puzzle, the Ring, the Rod, and the Necklace. Used this one for all my other fics.

SO, The Maccabees are my third favourite band of all time (and you know I take my music seriously so that's quite a compliment) but they announced they were breaking up in 2016 and were going to do a final farewell tour in 2016. This meant I never got to see them live.
They released their first full length LP back in 2007 titled 'Colour It In' and IT SLAPS. It first got big when the BBC DJ Steve Lamacq (Lammo) played the track 'Latchmere' on BBC Radio 1 and the band were noticed by the artist Jamie T who was the face of British Indie music back in the day. He invited them on tour and the band received the recognition they very well deserved. Later that year they toured America with another Brit-indie group called Bloc Party (WHO ARE SO FUCKING GOOD).
Then in 2009 the album 'Wall of Arms' was released and it just became hit after hit. Not a single skip on that album (or any of them imo). They followed with 'Given To The Wild' in 2012 (which became certified Gold) and 'Marks To Prove It' in 2015. This would be their last album and they toured it twice, once for release and once for the farewell. The support act for their final gig was the post-punk band IDLES from my home town (now my 5th fav band) and after they disbanded the lead singer Orlando Weeks went on to do the album art for them.
Orlando also released his own solo music and an illustrated book titled 'The Gritter Man' with an accompanying soundtrack and I'd recommend you listen to it over Christmas rather than any other seasonal music.
The frontman Felix White also went on to make his own music but he's now most well known for his cricket podcast 'Tailenders' which he hosts with the current face of BBC Radio 1 Greg James (who was also the guy who did the funeral for the duck).
I saw every member of the band play with their new acts over the summer and each of them played a Maccabees song and I thought they were just reminiscing or something, maybe because that hurt less than deluding myself into thinking that they'd reform.
BUT ANYWAY! i'm extremely happy and I'll be the first in line to buy tickets when they tour :3
chin in hands kicking my feet lotte this is so interesting i might have to listen to some of their music now. also IM SO GLAD THEY GOT BACK TOGETHER THATS HUGE ACTUALLY

Christmas Memories.
Fandom: Robin Hood (BBC TV series)
Pairing: Guy of Gisborne x Fem!Reader (slight)
Warnings: Very, very slight sexual reference.
Summary: From the imagine, "Imagine telling Guy about your 21st century Christmas traditions." Requested by @whoooooisthis
Comments: If you would like to be added to or removed from my tag list, please let me know. I hope you enjoy, and Merry Christmas! <3
A blizzard had blanketed the whole of Nottingham in a vast coverage of cold white. Everything was white. And the wind swept around you, its bite scratching at your skin. Your cheeks were tinged red as you escaped the freezing gloom and alighted onto the ground floor of the castle.
Guards were posted everywhere, ready to strike at Gisborne or the Sheriff’s demand. In your time here, however, you had come to know many of them. They knew that you were new to Nottingham, having come from lands afar. Little did they know, that far off land was time, approximately nine hundred years in the future. Everyone just assumed you were from another town or city within England. And you had gone along with the story, lying to everyone.
You made your way towards your bed chamber, which was situated in the west wing of the castle. Employment had come to you quick and easy; you were a maid in the castle, attending to laundry, general upkeep of rooms and cleaning duties. It was fair work, offering you enough money to maintain your room and buy food, and maybe the odd piece of clothing from the market every other week.
The chill was inescapable and felt as if it were cocooning you. It made you run down the hall, needing to get into your chamber and start a fire.
Inside your chamber and you were shocked to see Gisborne there, having started a fire already. “I thought you might need some warming up,” he said with a sly smirk. That smirk could make even the coldest part of your body begin to feel warm. It began as a little ball of warmth in the pit of your stomach and then ignited, spreading outward. “I’ve called for some food, too,” he continued.
“That’s very sweet of you,” you replied. You hurried to the open fire and placed your hands a few inches from it, palms down. The heat was so soothing. “That is so much better.” You groaned with pleasure that the heat brought you.
Guy smiled to himself again and felt a stir further south at the sound of your groan. If only he could hear that sound again, with you wrapped around him. But he pushed that thought away…for now.
“Just like a winter wonderland outside,” you pondered, speaking out loud. “It reminds me of Christmas.”
Guy raised his eyebrow. “What is that?”
As you remained crouched in front of the fire, Guy sat beside you. He watched the gold and orange hues dance over your beautiful face. They highlighted your eyes, making them sparkle like a long lost gem.
“Oh, it’s um…” you began. You’d momentarily forgot where you were. Could you even begin to explain to Guy where you had come from? Would he believe such a far-fetched story? You doubted it. “It’s a festival that we celebrate at the end of the year, where I come from I mean. We give gifts to each other and decorate trees with little ornaments.”
Guy merely raised his eyebrow, but continued to watch you, hoping that you would continue speaking.
By now and the wind had gotten up outside. You could hear the howl of the wind, sounding like a banshee flying around in the night air.
“I’ve always loved Christmas, although I doubt I’ll ever celebrate it again,” you said sadly. You looked to your right hand side to see Guy’s silver blue gaze locked on you.
“Why do you say that?” he asked.
“I can’t ever see myself going home. It’s too far away for me to go.”
“You got here, so why can you not go back? Maybe you could celebrate this Christmas here? We could, perhaps, celebrate together?”
Beneath the cruelty and greed that everyone saw within Gisborne’s outer shell, was an optimism that he only ever seemed to show when in your company. It was as if you drew out the dreamer within him. The hope in his eyes made you smile, but soon after you looked away in embarrassment, not able to maintain eye contact.
“That was stupid of me to suggest,” Guy hissed, aggravated with himself. He had taken the sign of your smile to mean you were amused by his proposal.
“No!” you exclaimed. “You’ve made me feel so welcome here, and I’d be honoured to celebrate with you. No one has been as interested in me or my life back home. You’re the only one who has asked any questions.”
Guy reached out and brushed his fingertips across your hand, feeling that spark within him come to life so much more powerful than before. He kept his gaze locked on yours, praying that you wouldn’t break contact like you usually did. Then he moved his head closer, acting on the sign that you were still watching him. Your head was also moving forward, and he exhaled quietly.
Suddenly a tap at your door pulled you from the spell that had surrounded you. Guy growled and got to his feet, ready to answer the door.

[BBC is UK State Media]
Since General Abdourahamane Tchiani overthrew the president in a coup on 26 July, Russian colours have suddenly appeared on the streets.[...]
The businessman, based 800km (500 miles) away in the central city of Zinder, didn't want to give his name for safety reasons and asked that we blur his face. "I'm pro-Russian and I don't like France," he said. "Since childhood, I've been opposed to France. "They've exploited all the riches of my country such as uranium, petrol and gold. The poorest Nigeriens are unable to eat three times a day because of France." The businessman said thousands had taken part in Monday's protest in Zinder in support of the military takeover. He said he had asked a local tailor to take material in the Russian colours of white, blue and red and make an outfit for him, denying that it had been paid for by pro-Russian groups. Niger is home to 24.4 million people where two in every five live in extreme poverty, on less than $2.15 a day.[...]
In Niger, anti-French protests were frequently banned by Mr Bazoum's administration. Several civil society groups began escalating anti-French protests in mid-2022, when Mr Bazoum's administration approved the redeployment of France's Barkhane forces to Niger after they had been ordered to leave Mali. Key among them is the M62 movement, formed in August 2022 by a coalition of activists, civil society movements and trade unions. They led calls against the rising cost of living, poor governance and the presence of the French forces.
Various planned protests by the group were banned or violently put down by Niger's authorities with its leader Abdoulaye Seydou jailed for nine months in April 2023 for "disrupting public order". The M62 appears revitalised in the wake of President Bazoum's removal.
In an unusual move, its members were quoted by state TV mobilising mass protests in support of the junta, as well as denouncing sanctions by West African leaders over the coup.[...]
"I want Russia to help with security and food," he said. "Russia can supply technology to improve our agriculture". But Moutaka, a farmer who also lives in Zinder, rejects this argument and says the coup is bad news for everyone. "I don't support the arrival of Russians in this country because they are all Europeans and nobody will help us," he said. "I love my country and hope we can live in peace."

Trying out a new digital art style with a self-portrait (I heard a rumour tumblr is gonna allow gif pfps and went a little crazy 😅)
ID under cut!
[ID: A shoulder-up portrait of the artist. They're a white nonbinary person with short brown hair, dark blue glasses, and a white-and-green striped t-shirt. They're standing in front of a dark blue background with rainbow stars.
There's a speech bubble coming from their mouth. Inside cycles several doodles: A trans flag, a rainbow flag, Castiel from Supernatural, a black fluffy cat, the USS Enterprise from Star Trek, a sewing needle with blue thread, the gold dragon Pendragon crest from BBC Merlin, and the AO3 logo.
The artist's signature, '@aerialworms' is written on the right side of the image in blue. /End ID]
#original poast#my art#i'm so proud of this!!#the reason i haven't posted in so long is cause i hated everything i drew#especially my digital stuff#but i fucking love this lineless style! no lineart baby!!!
