Oh my…
Well, Killi-baby would definitely be scared of Biddy.
Let's just say he's old enough, like those senior citizens dogs who literally don't know what to do when their owners bring a baby into the house.
Plus he doesn't get paid enough to be a glorified flame-throwing baby stroller. Nope.
He's not ready to do that whole night-flight thing again to put fussy babies to sleep or spontaneous vomiting on his back upon landing. Definitely staying away from Biddy until she can count to 100 would be great for him.
But Balinor?
Balinor! This is too entertaining!
I can literally imagine him going something like this!
Balinor, meeting Merlin: Oh! my sweet boy! I'm a father!!! squishes him because he has to catch up on all the affection he wants to give his son Couldn't this get any better?
Arthur, literally carrying Biddy in an improvised baby carrier: I'm glad you took the news of your fatherhood well… because you're a grandfather too! Meet Brigitta, she's an adorable little girl-
Balinor, looking completely scared at Merlin: Oh God! I knew that the lack of a father figure affected young people, but how is it that you're a father?! You're barely a baby!!! squishes him even harder Don't worry my son, you won't be taking care of my dear granddaughter alone anymore. Forget about her other father and we'll be able to-
Merlin: I'm not a baby! Biddy is! tries to get out of Balinor's suffocating embrace Besides, I'm not taking care of her alone! Arthur helps me! His position as crown prince of Camelot has us well protected!
That was enough to cause his near cardiac arrest. Because Balinor will be able to accept that he is a father and grandfather in less than an hour, that his son is a teenage father and that the baby's mother is not in the picture… But that Uther's son is raising his granddaughter and trying (because it is too obvious) to court his son?
That he will not accept!
If it were not for the fact that he already saw how the old dragon does not like babies, he would take his beloved son and granddaughter to flee Camelot and seek better lands in that very moment.
He still knows of some noble houses who have sons of matchmaking age who would make better husbands and stepfathers for his Merlin and Biddy.
First I wanted to say hello and tell you that I love your works. They really have me on the edge of my seat every time I read them.
Second. Can you imagine that Merlin, in some new alternative universe, for some reason, upon arriving in Camelot, arrives with a baby? It's all still a Merthur ending, it should be noted.
Like, we know that Merlin was already a bit of an outcast in the village for the reason that nobody knew who his father was and even more so because strange things were always happening around him.
The situation gets much worse when he finds a crying baby in the middle of a burnt tent near the village.
Will and his mother try to help him for a while, but with the visits of the evildoers to the village becoming more and more frequent, Merlin and the baby have no choice but to go to Camelot.
And so the adventures begin!
Only now Arthur wonders if they can make crowns for babies, because he is willing to marry Merlin and legally adopt the baby as his own.
And Morgana… well, she and Gwen enjoy dressing up the baby in all the clothes from her old dolls. Not to mention that she notices that by taking naps with the baby she no longer has nightmares.
The knights become, in some way or another, glorified nannies. The servants and maids must chase after a baby who never stops causing mischief in the castle.
And Merlin just wants to survive colic season and potty train his baby… and everything would be easier if there weren't a murderer or a resentful wizard trying to kill Arthur every 3 minutes.
First, thank you so much for the compliments! 🥹🤧❤️
About the concept. I love it! I don't think going to Camelot to live would be Merlin or Hunith's first option for a baby that can't control their magic at all. So I firmly believe Hunith would send Merlin with the baby there so Gaius can take them to a druid camp so they could take refuge there.
The problem is, before Gaius can do so, Merlin is made the prince's personal manservant. Merlin can't exactly deny the king and he does need the money to take care of his baby so he decides to stay to Gaius dismay. Gaius and Merlin try to keep the baby hided at first so they take turns taking care of her (in my mind is a her) in Gaius' tower in secret. It works out for some weeks but then the plague (Nimueh's Afanc) happens and Arthur searches Gaius' tower.
Arthur: (enters Merlin's room) Merlin: (running inside) Arthur, wait! Baby: (sitting on the bed, looks up at Arthur and gives a cute giggle) Arthur: (Turns to Merlin slowly) Merlin? Merlin: Yeah? 😅 Arthur: Why is there a baby in your bed? Merlin: (in panic, shouts the first thing that comes to his mind) She is mine! Arthur: ... Arthur: What? 😧 Merlin: (repeats more quietly but more firmly) She is mine. (runs to hold her up and embraces her) She is my daugther. Arthur: (thinking) But... but he is so young. (says) Where's the mother? Merlin: (with pain as he remembers the burnt tent) She passed away. Arthur: (his heart hurting for Merlin) I'm so sorry. But Gods Merlin, why didn't you tell me? I wouldn't have given you so many chores if I knew... (thinking) And I almost sacked you. I almost sacked a single father with a baby in arms! (says) And why the hell are you hiding her? Merlin: I... wasn't sure if I could keep her. Arthur: Of course you can keep her! What kind of master do you think I am? Knight x: (from outside) Sire? Arthur: (shouts back) In a minute! (to Merlin) What's her name? Merlin: Brigitta. Arthur: (repeats softly and smiles) Brigitta.
From then on, Arthur doesn't give Merlin as many chores and raises his salary considerably. And then everybody else finds out about Briggitta and go "I've only met Brigitta for a day and a half, but if anything happened to her, I would kill everyone in this room and then myself".
Some events would change, obviously, and some would remain the same but with a new perspective. I don't think Merlin would have time to make Lancelot a fake seal, for example, having to look after Brigitta and all. I can imagine Lancelot becoming Brigitta's first unnofficial babysiter, then Arthur makes it official so poor Lancelot has a salary and a place to stay in Camelot. The Poisoned Chalice episode would remain the same, except Arthur would be more in panic mode and desperate because MERLIN HAS A DAUGHTER! BRIGITTA CAN'T LOSE HER FATHER TOO!
I think it would be The Beginning of the End where Arthur and Morgana find out about Brigitta's magic and Merlin's magic. Not because they discovered her, surprisingly, but Merlin decided to tell them all the truth about her and himself after seeing how they saved Mordred. Also, since Merlin saw Brigitta's possible future in Mordred, he wants to leave Camelot too to keep her safe. Screw all what the dragon told him about destiny, his daugther comes first.
So Merlin and Brigitta are about to leave with Mordred with the druids. They are having a heartfelt goodbye with Arthur, who scorted them there, but then...
Brigitta: (cries very loudly in Merlin's arms and the earth starts shaking a bit) Merlin: I know, I know, baby, but we have to go. Brigitta: (cries more loudly and extends her little arms to Arthur) Arthur: (barely containing his tears) I'll miss you too, Biddy. But this is the best for you- Brigitta: ATHU! 😭 Arthur: (open his eyes wide) What did she just said? Brigitta: (still crying and making grabby hands at him) ATHU, ATHU, ATHU! 😭 Arthur: (tears roll down his eyes) She said my name... Merlin, she said my name! (grinning widely) Let me hold her one more time, please! Merlin: (gives Brigitta to Arthur) Druid leader: (urgently) We need to leave now! Merlin: (looking at Arthur and Brigitta tenderly and smiles) Leave, we'll stay.
I also can imagine Nimueh going after Brigitta's life instead of Hunith, and having to confront not only a very furious Merlin, but a feral protective prince.
That's how far my imagination can go. If you have any ideas of how Merlin and Arthur or other character would act in other episodes now with Brigitta in the equation, share it in the comments or reblogs. I'll be happy to read you 🥰

When Lancelot comes to Camelot, he doesn't expect to meet Merlin. To be fair, he didn't expect anything that happened after either.
Gaius: perhaps you don't need to forge his papers that much
Merlin: and why is that?
Gaius: you could just use your own title
Merlin: my what?
....
Because Lancelot proves not to have magic, the sigil is perfect because it's real (except the name), he is now accepted in Camelot as Sir Lancelot, son of the last Dragonlord, Balinor.
(Uther is relieved, although it was a struggle to convince him of Lancelot's loyalties and convictions)
It's awesome, because Lancelot can flee after he covers Merlin's attempts to save Camelot from the dragon. And Arthur still gets to question magic.
Arthur: what's it like... Having a father like that?
Lancelot: I don't know. I've never met him. My mother remarried and never told me until recently.
Arthur: it doesn't bother you that he is an exile?
Lancelot: .... *Sad for Merlin*
Lancelot: a little. But I have faith in the Kings decision
....
Later
Arthur: Lancelot, I'm so sorry. Balinor died in Merlin's arms. I wish you could have met.
Arthur: and.... I also must tell you, you might have inherited his powers. So you and I have to face the dragon together
Lancelot: *pales*... Yeah... Sure, sure, certainly
Lancelot: MERLIN!!!
Maybe eventually Arthur learns that the papers were forged and it's a cover to protect Merlin and his magic and Arthur is shooketh

Ok, I don't really post here, but there's a Merlin AU idea that's been rattling around in my skull like it's a pinball machine and I need to get it out, so here we go:
Imagine an AU where Balinor doesn't die and banishes Kilgarrah before sneaking away so Uther doesn't catch him and can't put his newfound son in danger. Of course, both he and Merlin are heartbroken about having to be separated again after just finding each other, but they work out a way to keep in touch and occasionally meet in secret.
And this is all well and good, and everything in the show just kinda proceeds as normal up until about season 4, where we have the knights of the round table well-established in Camelot.
It'd make sense that after a few years of travelling around with Kilgarrah, Balinor would be pretty well-known and well-feared throughout all the five kingdoms as "that dragonlord who escaped the purge and now travels around on the back of a giant dragon", and people all over Albion are kinda terrified of the guy.
Rumors say that he never smiles, that he can kill a man in a split second without even utterring a spell, and can decimate kingdoms with the dragon under his total command. That makes for a formidable figure!
And then one day, Balinor is trying to sneak into Camelot to visit his son (he heard Merlin got hit by a dorocha and wants to make sure he's ok!), and the knights see him and freak out because holy shit that's one of the deadliest guys in Albion!
They're in a tense standoff, with Balinor threatening to call down the dragon on them if they don't let him through. The knights are all ready to give their lives to at least buy the people in the castle time to evacuate, when suddenly Merlin and Arthur make it to the standoff. Arthur immediately starts strategizing with his knights on how they're going to negociate with the sorcerer in an attempt to make sure that they aren't all slaughtered.
Meanwhile, Merlin just laughs and pushes through the rows of knights blocking Balinor's path to the castle. The knights, being very fond of Merlin and not wanting to see their kind little friend be brutally murdered by one of the most terrifying men in exsistence, are trying to grab Merlin and pull him back to safety or shouting at him to get back, but Merlin manages to avoid them as he walks up to Balinor.
For a horrifying moment, the knights and Arthur think that Merlin is about to sacrifice himself for them, but Merlin breaks into a huge grin, yells "Dad!", and runs right into Balinor's arms.
(Merlin and Balinor reason that now that Arthur's king, they might as well start easing him into some of Merlin's less shocking secrets)
And even more shockingly to the knights, Balinor hugs him back, asking Merlin all about how he's been doing, how are his studies under Gaius, etc etc.
And all of the knights just bluescreen. Because the math isn't mathing on this one. Hunith + Balinor = MERLIN?! Does not compute.
They're all pondering how could someone as joyful, friendly, and kind as Merlin be the spawn of a terrifying man like Balinor?? They just cannot comprehend it. The manservant who they all know and love came from this sorcerer who's name is synonymous with the threat of death and destruction??
They're all jolted back to reality however when Balinor asks Merlin if he wants to come back to Balinor's newly-renovated stronghold in the mountains (that's only accessable by riding a dragon) to learn more about one day becoming a dragonlord. And suddenly, the knight understand why Balinor's here. He wants to kidnap Merlin from them and twist him into a terrifying sorcerer to carry on Balinor's legacy!
It all basically dissolves into a long game of high-stakes tug-of-war between Balinor and the knights + Arthur, and Merlin's just enjoying spending time with his father and his friends.
Balinor will just casually crash one of their quests while riding Kilgarrah and "kidnap" Merlin while the knights fight to keep Merlin with them.
Balinor eventually gives Merlin Aithusa so he can get practice raising dragons, and the knights see it as some evil scheme to make Merlin betray Camelot and attack it from within, but damn it Merlin's already adopted the damn thing so now they're stuck with a baby dragon.
IDK if I'd ever write a fic about it since I'm pretty busy writing another fic rn, but I thought that it was a funny idea to throw out there!
PS: if anyone wants to read my current project, where I'm giving Sir Leon more anxiety with each chapter after a kinda-botched magic reveal on Merlin's part (and Merlin may or may not be an eldritch god), feel free to check it out here: https://archiveofourown.org/works/54027337/chapters/136771564
Thank you all for sticking with my incoherent rambling! :D I hope you have a great day/night!
Also, please let me know if you guys wants to hear more of the ideas that pinball around in my head!

bedridden today due to agonies hence why im yapping about bbc merlin again but god balinor was such a wasted potential. they had to kill him bc otherwise there would have been one (1) sane adult present. picturing whenever merlin would be like “gaius said that uther is good for the economy actually and so i must protect him from being assassinated by this grieving mother” balinor, eye twitching, “son he sentenced me to death which left your mother destitute and would burn you on the pyre next morning if he knew i found the time to father you while running for my life. and that traitorous old geezer said what again”
#bbc merlin#balinor#merlin#gaius#like i just want to see him stand in gaius’s study like tell me why’d you never think to inform me i have a son. quick#‘its too dangerous’ and its not too dangerous to instruct him to try and die for arthur p. five days a week eh?#mine

Au where Balinor lives, banishes Kilgharrah, but then Merlin has to smuggle him out of Camelot and he goes back on the run because despite him saving everyone he's still a dragonlord and Uther is going to Uther. Before he leaves Merlin tells him to at least stop by Ealdor and see his mum cause she still loves him and deserves to at least know he's still alive. Balinor does go to Ealdor but a mix of needing to hide due to being a wanted man and nerves over seeing Hunith again ends up with him hiding in her garden trying to work up the courage to knock on her door. Hunith, hearing a ruckus outside her house, goes to investigate, and when she sees a suspicious man hiding out in her garden she starts whacking him with a broom. Balinor calls out for her to stop, telling her it's him, and when she does the two actually see each other for the first time in so many years. For a while, they just stare at each other until Balinor speaks in a stunned breathless voice "Dear gods, you're as beautiful as the day I left." Hunith blinks and it registers that she's not imagining things, he's really there. She blushes slightly then whackes him over the head with her broom again. "You disappear for over 2 decades and that's what you have to say to me?!"
#This was inspired by the scene of Stoick seeing Valka again for the first time in years#I also imagine Hunith finding Balinor hiding in her garden and whacking him with a broom is how they first met#Balinor grabbed the broom to stop her hitting him and explained he just needed somewhere to hide from Camelot knights#Hunith then took him inside fed him and gave him a place to sleep because fuck Uther Pendragon#Balinor repaid her kindness by making a start on the chores before she woke up the next morning and she decided he'd earned his keep#They're unintentionally recreating their first meeting#bbc merlin#merlin#balinor#hunith#merlin emrys#uther pendragon#fuck uther

« It's… lonely. To be more powerful than any man you know, and have to live like a shadow. »
My illustration for Merlin Fanzine. I wanted to draw the main character surrounded by those who have always been and will be next to him. Merlin can feel lonely sometimes, but I like the idea that he has never been so lonely. He is loved and accepted for who he is <3

Merlin 2x13 The Last Dragonlord
I love this moment so much. Balinor is begrudgingly helping these two people from Camelot and when he hears that the Great Dragon is attacking Camelot, his first thought is to correct Merlin and tell him his name is Kilgharrah. Even Merlin, who has conversations with the dragon all the time, never bothered to learn his name and here's Balinor, the last dragonlord, who had a personal relationship with this dragon. He just wants Merlin to show Kilgharrah some basic respect. How fitting that when we do finally learn his name, it's from the last dragonlord.

balinor giving merlin the ambrosius sigil and merlin carrying it around with him for years. merlin and arthur sitting around a campfire, both believing fullheartedly that they’ll be dead by morning bc like hell are they going to allow the other to sacrifice themself to close the veil. arthur giving merlin the du bois sigil as a parting gift and ensuring that merlin will be taken care of after his death. merlin biting the bullet and handing over the ambrosius family sigil in exchange. luckily, arthur doesn’t recognize the ambrosius sigil for what it is - a dragonlord lineage. BUT now he thinks merlin has noble blood and is wondering when tf he figured that out, if he ever met his father, and why he never told arthur.
#ofc arthur still believes that merlin is a bastard peasant#but apparently his father was nobility#otherwise why does he have a family sigil??#they both end up surviving the ordeal but neither of them bring up the sigil thing again#bc if they do then merlin/arthur will have to give arthur/merlin his sigil back#and like hell are they giving something so personal of the other up#bbc merlin#merlin emrys#arthur pendragon#merthur#fanfiction#fanfic#fic ideas#prompts#sigil#balinor#ygraine#dragonlords were nobility btw#its in the name

Do you guys understand? Merlin is magic personified, he is the power that can manipulate natural and supernatural beings and forces, he has always been and he will always be, he is immortal, he is an spiritual brother to dragons, his birth has been prophesied by many cultures, he is the son of the earth, of the sea, of the sky; Magic is the fabric of of the world and he was born of that magic; He is the Old Religion, he is magic itself. Do you understand that???

If Arthur knew about Merlin's parentage...
Arthur: Parents can only hope for the best with their child. For example, the kindest people I know are Balinor and Hunith. Lovely couple, not the type you'll think about having the most annoying gremlin for an offspring.
Guinevere: But their son is Merlin.
Arthur: Exactly.
