just realized that bitch ass uther pendragon was NOT the rightful heir of camelots throne. he invaded camelot, probably super peaceful with the druids and sorcerers, everybody happy. and then he really wanted an heir, bargained his wife's life and LOST and when she died he was like ooouu it's all magic's fault. He chose camelot, he literally chose to be king. He could've just appointed an heir or recognize Morgana as his child. None of this needed to happen. It was all due to his selfishness and greed. I'm losing my whole mind here.

Bbc merlin is such a comedy. Arthur keeps telling Merlin they can’t be friends because they are prince and servant, while Merlin straight up tells Uther they have a special bond and Uther is glad

I think it would be insanely funny if after Arthur’s death everyone returns back in time to the place they were the day Merlin arrived in Camelot. But like, everyone thinks they are the only ones who has returned. We see it all from Merlin’s pov, who’s traumatised and wondering why the fuck Arthur is so much sweeter to him this time around and keeps saying ‘thank you’. He wonders why Lancelot shows up earlier, why all of a sudden Gwaine is there three years too early, saying he got hurt in a tavern bawl and needs a physician. He wonders why Leon keeps pretending like he didn’t just accidentally see Merlin do magic. Why Gwen keeps giving him these knowing looks. And why Morgana doesn’t seem as afraid as she used to when she was figuring out that she had magic. Everyone is trying their best to change history for the better, thinking they are alone with this duty... and then one day when uther is dead and they are sitting around the round table, merlin steps forward and is like: ‘I need to confess that I have magic, but also that I have returned from the future.’ And everyone just whips around and is like ‘YOU TOO??!’ And then they realise that they’ve all returned and wasted their time thinking they were alone.

the implications of Uther Pendragon not being the rightful heir to camelots throne kinda makes morganas crash out a little bit funny. because she's specifically mad that she's not recognized as the rightful heir to the throne. But she's not? like... take the throne if you want it, damn - but don't pretend you have a right to it because - not even uther had a right to it. he just took it. the pendragon line is a whole ass joke.

The writing on the Adventures of Merlin astounds me constantly. Like. A goblin possesses Gaius and licks gold. Fart jokes are treated as relevant comedy. We’re supposed to believe that no one sees Merlin do magic in broad daylight, everyday, when we literally see his eyes flash and a sound effect plays. But then.

But then Uther dies on Arthur’s birthday.

You might not get it yet. You might not know why that’s insane. I’ll tell you. The significance of that event is that Igraine died in childbirth. Arthur’s birthday is already a reminder of his dead mother. A woman who died for his birth. And now his father dies, signifying Arthur’s ascent to King.

A rebirth. Once again forged in the blood of his kin, Arthur Pendragon is borne of death.

A day that has forever been bloodied is now drowning in red, and it has been and will always be treated as a celebration.

What were they on???? That they could waffle between some of the cringiest takes I’ve ever seen, and some of the most poignant symbols in modern storytelling. I simply don’t understand.
