It really pisses me off when Americans make fun of beans on toast. And I know this sounds really stupid to say and it's not that deep, but it's classist.
I don't think they quite get that we don't "defend it like it's some delicacy" Because we worship it like some weird religion, we defend it because it's a struggle meal.
At Aldi, a loaf of bread is 75p, and at Tesco a tin of beans is 28p, coming to £1.03 ($1.36)
For some people, this is the only thing they can afford to eat, a lot of those people eating it every day as their only meal.
Make fun of our tea and crumpets, our faggots and peas, our spotted dick. But don't make fun of a struggle meal.
#I thought we all learnt long ago not to punch down#guess not#but when people here are having to choose between food and gas (heating) meals like beans on toast are a life saver

It reached over 450k signatures and we got: The Government is working with Ofcom to ensure that online in-scope services are subject to robust but proportionate regulation through the effective implementation of the Online Safety Act 2023.
The Government has no plans to repeal the Online Safety Act, and is working closely with Ofcom to implement the Act as quickly and effectively as possible to enable UK users to benefit from its protections.
The Government will continue to work with Ofcom towards the full implementation of the Online Safety Act 2023, including monitoring proportionate implementation.
They have absolutly no plans to debate this as they should. They have no plans to listen to us. Put presure on them. Call you Mps, call them out for ot defending us. Mention that they are using a 3rd party company and look at the danger that has caused ofr over 75,000 American women last week. Don't let your voices go quiet because the governemnt isn't listening to us they way they are paid and expected to do!
Soooooo some more news on this hellscape we call earth. Wikimediq is refusing to comply with the uk online safety law and is in a court case with the uk government.

Last I checked the uk petition to repeal this law hit the 100k milestone so they'll have to discuss in parliament. Keep signing/sharing to bring that number up higher.

Monthly Fic Rec - April
So, the second month of my newly improved Fic Recs. I will give 10 fic recs per month as I did for April. I’m enjoying this format a lot more than weekly as I can keep up lol. As always I shall separate them into Fandom, ship and then setting/trope.
This months include:
Harry Potter - Sirius/Remus, Percy Weasley/Lee Jordon
The Hobbit - Bilbo/Thorin
The Witcher - Geralt/Jaskier
Cross Overs - Harry Potter/Daryl Dixon
Harry Potter
Wolfstar
Muggle Au
Good Night, Moony - littlejo_ana - Harry Potter
Summary: The one where Sirius needs help making Harry fall asleep, and Moony's podcast might be the answer.
Moony's might be the answer to a lot of things, actually.
nightlights - sadgeminimoon - Harry Potter
Summary: Sirius fits himself far too neatly into Remus' life, and he simply is unable to cope, and really it all comes down to Teddy Lupin and his dinosaur-shaped nightlight.
Led by Light of a Star Sweetly Gleaming - wolfpants
Summary: Remus Lupin is a student and temporary sales assistant at Oxford's finest department store when a mysterious, handsome young man by the name of Sirius Black enters his life and introduces him to a world of sprawling country estates, parties, and London's underground bar scene. A 1960s Wolfstar AU with lots of music, smoking, fine interiors, and, of course, romance.
You're My Kaleidoscope - orphan_account - Harry Potter
Summary: When Remus wakes up to find a baby on his doorstep, he has no idea what to do. Especially when it turns out the baby has come from a drunken one-night-stand. With no idea what to do, Remus is surprised the moment his two neighbours decide to step in and help him raise the baby. All is well--for a year, until Teddy's birth mother's sudden return, and then the fight for Remus to keep his family together begins.
Percy Weasley/Lee Jordon
No Voldermort Au
Alone Time - Siriusly_Though (AmethystHeart2421) - Harry Potter
Summary: “I’m not here to spend quality time with you, Jordan. I’m here to have a relaxing bath, eat my pasties alone, and then read my book with a nice cup of tea. I’m taking a break from—” he waves his hand vaguely in Lee’s direction “—people.”
Percy just wants a little alone time. Is that so much to ask?
The Hobbit
Bilbo/Thorin
Temporary Amnesia
With an Eager, Knowing Heart - Laura Kaye (laurakaye) - The Hobbit
Summary: “Why don’t you come lie down beside me,” Thorin said. “We could have more of this private talk.” He did something funny with his eyebrows; Bilbo thought he was trying to smolder at him seductively. The result was somewhat hampered by the way he was focused at a spot several inches to Bilbo’s left.
“You have a head wound,” Bilbo reminded him. “This isn’t going to go the way you’re hoping, you ridiculous dwarf.”
The Witcher
Geralt/Jaskier
Different First Meeting
in the belly of the beast - TheSilverQueen - The Witcher
Summary: On the fifth day after Jaskier is swallowed alive by a lake monster, he meets a Witcher.
Established Relationship
Say My Name - MsThunderFrost - The Witcher
Summary: Jaskier is more than a little ashamed to admit that he doesn’t actually know his own last name.
Like a Bird on a Line - RebrandedBard - Wiedźmin | The Witcher
Summary: Jaskier and Geralt have just arrived in town and are looking for an inn to stay the night. Or Geralt is looking at least—Jaskier is running around the rooftops, wandering and daydreaming as always. He's turned into quite the acrobat since training with Geralt and the wolves. If only he didn't draw so much attention with his theatrics.
Cross Overs
Harry Potter - The Walking Dead
Harry Potter/Daryl Dixon
It's Not Your Fault - DarknessAscendingLost - Harry Potter - The Walking Dead
Summary: “He ain’t nobody’s dog,” Daryl growled, stepping between Harry and the man trying to grab him.
“Move,” Vernon barked, face red with rage.
But Daryl didn’t move. Not an inch.
“He’s a kid,” he said, low and dangerous. “And you don’t lay another fuckin’ hand on him.”
Harry stared, stunned. No one had ever stepped in for him like that, not once. And now this man, this gruff stranger with a crossbow and too many scars, was looking at Vernon like he’d end him without hesitation.
Something in Harry’s chest cracked open.
Maybe, for once, he wasn’t alone.

okay, imagine with me, a very clishe Cowboy AU but each Wolf is living through their own genre/clishe plotline
Vesemir is a hardcore rancher. He's out there, working hard, talking about family values and how nothing in life is ever easy. His sons are his farmhands and although they turned out a bit weird, they all stick together, care for their ranch and their cattle like real men do. But surviving in the wilderness is hard work and when their rivalry rancher family, the Ketts (Cats) dare to intrude on their property things quickly turn for the worse! (His story comes with sooo many shots of the rising and sinking sun, closeups of cattle, birdseye view of cattle, a campfire, low angle shots of cattle, horses' eyes, another sunset, coffee, cattle, campfire, Vesemir standing on his porch, looking at the sunset) It turns out Vesemir and Guxart have a secret history! They grew up together as little rancher boys and felt something special between them but because they grew up as very manly rancher men they couldn't have possibly stayed "friends" so naturally they became rivals instead. But when they have to work together to save their ranches and the surrounding land and the cattle and their families and the whole town from an evil big corporate firm that wants to take over, they realize that they still lo- that they're still two very manly, tight-knitted friends. (staring at the sunrise together)
Geralt on the other hand is a horse whisperer. Vesemir insists that there is absolutely no such thing as a horse whisperer but Geralt can stand in a paddock of semi-feral horses and just breaaathe and the horses come and surround him in a perfectly meditative circle and breathe with him. (maybe that's just the autism, but we will never know)
Roach is either a rescue or a mustang, because of course she is and she will listen to no one except for Geralt who immediately knows her very soul as soon as they lock eyes. The only reason why he doesn't ride bareback in a white flowy dress, is because Vesemir taught him that horse whisperes don't exist and wearing a white flowy dress around cattle and semi-feral horses might not be the best idea. (The camera shows us horses brathing, noses twitching, long pretty eyelashes fluttering, more breathing, eye movements that show us the very soul of the horse, many long distance shots of horses slowly walking up to Geralt, his brothers sitting or leaning on the paddock/corral fence, shaking their heads in disbelief) And then one day a horse trailer pulls up to their ranch and Jaskier and his super rich kind of evil grandmother step out of the expensive white Jeep. And Jaskier's strict rich grandmother demands that Geralt fixes Jaskier's priced show jumping horse Pegasus which has been traumatized by... something to do with show jumping. And Geralt sees this terrified horse and this cranky rich grandmother and he doesn't want to help but grandmother is paying him a lot of money and of course they need that money to care for the ranch and oh, Jaskier is oh so pretty and he looks at Pegasus with tears in his eyes and Geralt can see the connection between Jaskier and his gelding and he can feeel the love. They spend days and nights together, trying to figure out what scares Pegasus so much and how to build enough trust with the horse so they can overcome these obstacles together. And Jaskier knows little about ranching but he has fun learning from geralt and the family and when they finally get Pegasus to jump over obstacles once again Jaskier smiles and laughs and together he and Pegasus look like they can fly. Geralt knows he has fallen in love but they can't possibly be together, because Jaskier needs to go back. But then Jaskier decides that he cares more about what is best for his horse than what his grandmother wants so he tells her to stick it when she comes back and then he lives with Geralt on the ranch and Pegasus and Roach can be happy little western trail horses forever and ever. And Jaskier gets his own cowboy hat.
Eskel is seemingly the most chill of the family. He's found his place and is happy with his life. He's the family's handyman, knows how to repair and build almost anything and is always willing to help out on the ranch and their neighbor's properties. He's well known in town for being a gentle, strong man who willingly helps old ladies carry groceries and who gets along with everyone. Vesemir has his ranch, Geralt has his horses and Eskel has his goats and chicken. And then, one day, he is in town when a newcomer makes their rounds. She's loud and bustling, fresh out of the city, wearing heels and dragging her luggage behind herself in a way that shows how utterly unprepared she is to be there. Turns out she got scammed: She thought she was buying this lovely old ranch house that she could easily turn around for some profit in a couple of weeks while she rethinks her wedding plans with her emotionally-absent fiancee. But the ranch she bought is a total mess and needs a lot more than a quick paint job to be worth anything. She's stubborn, though, and decides to stay in the house and do everything herself - even if she obviously has no idea what she's doing. So Eskel, known to be friendly, knowledgeable and quite the handyman, finds himself knocking on her door on a daily basis. (His camera shots include a lot of pretty landscapes, low shots from inside the local hardware store, artistically made timelapses) He teaches her about ranch life and she makes him laugh like he hasn't done since- Deidre! Turns out Eskel has a tragic past! And although he is friendly with everyone he has problems letting people into his life!!! And then, a day after they finally kiss in the kitchen of the house they built together, her fiancee shows up! Now she has to decide between two men and just when she's about to leave with her fiancee becuase leaving everything behind for a rancher she met only a few weeks ago would be totally crazy, she hears the news that little Bleater has gone missing and Eskel is out there searching for his beloved goat. So she ends up monologuing how life in the city isn't what her heart desires and she breaks the engagement off and tells Max/Mark/Marcus to go back to the city alone and then she comes running for Eskel and together they find little bleater and kiss in the light of the rising moon.
Lambert is a true rebel. Sure, he does his work around the ranch and he's actually really good at it, but he always insists on leaving one day and working in a big city. Instead of cowboy hats he wears leather jackets and earns extra money by working at the local auto repair shop, where he also fixes up his own very cool black motorcycle. One day he is begrudgingly riding his horse along their fence lines to check for damages, when he notices that a beat up truck has broken down on the dusty roadside and a handsome stranger is helplessly standing in front of it. Lambert of course, offers to take a look at it, but the car is beyond repair. So instead he pulls Aiden, who sheepishly introduces himself as one of the Kett family, up on his horse and together they ride to the Kett ranch. Lambert is regarded with much suspicion but he does work at the auto shop so he tells Aiden to call his boss to get his truck toed and fixed up. And despite knowing that their families are at odds, Aiden just keeps showing up when Lambert is working and keeps flirting with him. And Lambert slowly starts to understand that despite his wish to leave the ranch life behind, he actually holds everything Vesemir has taught him close to his heart and maybe it's less about leaving and more about finding his place on the ranch. (His part of the story comes with a lot of low shots, showing off how he and Aiden sneak through the darkness, meet up at night under the stars, pull each other into behind sheds and into tight nooks) Aiden has been away for a while, so he doesn't hold onto the family feud as much as the others but he doesn't want to stay a secret forever. Push comes to shove of course, and for a while they break up over it. But then it turns out that a corporation is trying to mess with the farmers so all of them pair up together to help out with the big cattle drive, meaning the Kett and Wilk family ride side by side again and Lambert can't stop yearning over Aiden until he finally mans up and promises no more hiding. They make up and then make out under the stars.
And all of this happens at the same time. All of their stories happen simultaneously. You have Vesemir cursing out the big corporation, while rich boy Jaskier moves into their guest room. Eskel stays behind when they go on the cattle drive to care for the ranch and continue helping with the fixer-upper. Jaskier realizes he and Pegasus are much happier out in the open when he joins the drive and Lambert finally realizes that he likes being a rancher when he and Aiden ride side by side.

Hmmmm hm. Okay. Worldbuilding/story idea.
One million years after humanity disappears, octopi and ravens have independently developed sapience. And one day an octopus child and an elder raven meet at the edge of the ocean.
Where is your mother and father? asks the raven. I have no mother or father, says the octopus, blushing pale. All octopi are children. Once we’re grown, we will mate and we will die. It is the first and the last thing our mothers tell us.
But that’s horrible, says the raven. It’s not all bad, says the octopus. We play, we hunt, we make games for ourselves in the deep. Yes, but who remembers your songs? the raven says. Who passes down your stories?
What is a story? the octopus asks.
And the raven thinks about this question. And finally it says: A story is how you remember things in the past. It is how you know where you come from, and what happened before you were born. A story can be a warning, or it can be advice, or it can be a silly joke told to make you feel good. Someone remembers the story and tells it to the next generation, who remember the story and tells it to the generation after them.
And the octopus thinks about this answer. And finally it says: Can you tell me a story?
And the raven tells the octopus a story. And it’s a good story. And the next day the octopus returns and asks for another. The next day it brings its octopus friends, and the raven brings its raven friends, and many stories are shared on the edge of the ocean.
Months later, the octopus returns to the raven. I am grown, it says. I am returning to the sea to find a mate and lay my brood. I will not be coming back. I’m sorry.
I will miss your company, says the raven.
I have one thing to ask you, says the octopus. In time my children will come to the edge of the ocean. I would like you to tell them a story I have made. And when they have stories of their own, I would like your children to remember them and pass them down to my children’s children.
Of course, says the raven. What is your story about?
And the octopus thinks, and says: It is about an octopus child and an elder raven who meet at the edge of the ocean.
And this story has been passed down to this day.
