7B - which had good ideas but suffered because Moff was too busy with the anniversary to edit - managed the revelation that the companion the Doctor believed was supernatural was actually an ordinary woman much much better, because the narrative was constantly pointing out that the Doctor’s fixation was both incorrect and unfair to Clara.
This was more like if Neville was revealed at the end to be the chosen one after following Harry Potter for seven books. You can’t lead the viewers to a conclusion, pull the rug from under them and then laugh at them for not getting it when they were never provided the dots to join.
happened to see this ask right after rewatching the bells of st john but yes exactly! 7b wasn't moffat's best work but he clearly had the conclusion planned out from the start and that was reflected in how the narrative treated clara and the doctor, whereas rtd was setting up something totally different from what he ended up doing. with clara, the doctor (and the audience to an extent) go in thinking she's some crazy, weird, impossible thing, but in 7b itself all the signs continually point to her being an ordinary human and the doctor just ignores that because of his fixation on her "mystery". the exact opposite of s14 where no one thought ruby was anything but human until RTD started surrounding her with weirdness and specifically drawing attention to it. the message he's sending to fans is "don't try to analyze my writing or predict* where I'm going with things, because I don't care about thematic consistency and will just pull plot points out of thin air"
*caveat that I don't necessarily think a twist should be predictable, but I do think that looking back after everything is revealed, you should be able to feel that it was done with intention and not by spinning a wheel.
it's hard to have any real analysis of this series because it doesn't have that sense of being crafted intentionally. some episodes in it were good, but as a whole it's incoherent. any discussion of its themes or ruby's character is necessarily either extremely shallow or driven by fan theories that have taken what little the writing gave us and run with it.
RTD says he wants to provoke reactions, and I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing, but I do think he's going about it all wrong. if he made something that had genuine depth and was thought-provoking, fan discussion would naturally follow AND would keep going for a long time. instead he's chosen to chase after moment-to-moment shock value and soundbite reactions, and as a result I don't see this new version of doctor who having much lasting popularity.

Ship them, don’t ship them, would have written things differently, whatever; but whenever I see a post like ‘Ted and Rebecca love each other so they must be more than just friends! they’re proven to be intrinsically connected, that could only equal romance! anything less than romance is such a downgrade for such an amazing and vital relationship!’ I want to panic-vomit. Ideally over the person writing it.

There's a recording of Don Giovanni on Spotify with Sunhae Im and Nikolay Borchev Zerlina and Masetto from the 2006 Baden-Baden cast, dated to 2007. In fact, everyone in the cast seems to be from that production, except for Kenneth Tarver, who is definitely not the tenor in the show. Curious.

Info: Ever wonder how Kirk and gang manage to get out of so many scrapes?
Kirk, it turns out, is rather vital to a non-apocalyptic Earth…and Crowley and Aziraphale do so enjoy all the earthly amenities available in the 23rd century.
So they've taken it upon themselves to wander over onto the Enterprise and keep an eye on things, and make sure they don't all manage to disintegrate themselves. And if, in the meantime, Crowley decides to have a little fun on the side with these pretty Starfleet officers…I don't think Aziraphale will necessarily stop him… (thread)

okay is she being actually immature or is it just a woman over 30 expressing a human experience you find to be immature.
like yeah. at certain ages... let shit go. im not defending the real immature shit. im not defending the karen you're picturing. i worked in retail i hate those people too. (once somebody got mad at me because she didn't like how our winter window decor was a snowman smoking a pipe. i wish i was joking).
but men at 57 will write books about how 17 year old girls are soooo sexy. they will invent worlds where women have to be naked for "armor reasons." they will write songs that treat women as objects. people rush to defend them. meanwhile a woman at 35 will be like "heartbreak is hard, actually" or "i feel betrayed by a friend" or "i am struggling with something emotionally." immediately people will say stuff like this woman is 35 by the way. by the way this woman is SO OLD to be experiencing this. BY THE WAY.
im 31, almost 32. the other day a poet was blasted online because at her "big age", she had written a poem about feeling unloved. top comment was "this woman is 29 by the way." this woman is too old to still be useful, by the way. she has to behave better . maybe if she was a good wife and mother she could stop existing loudly, and the story could continue on without her. this woman has served her purpose, by the way. she's so cringe, by the way. at 29 - so old! - she still hasn't figured out that her existence should be one of shame.
#what the fuck.#unfortunately by the time i'd switched accounts (from personal to my poetry one)#i couldn't find it :(#this is why u SEND URSELF THE POST. WHICH I KNOW TO DO BUT!!!#i was so mad i just was like “i'm about to tear this commenter in twain” and . lost da post#if u urself are the 29 and got recently flamed by instagram#i love u. come here. write with me. i was about to pick up a sword for u.#i mean a BIGASS sword.#like we all know im a wlw girlie but the way ppl will be like ''id NEVER write sad poetry about a MAN not LOVING me!!!"#..... wowwwww ur so cool. anyway. people often experience emotions regardless of what u consider cringe.#& if ur gonna shame straight/bi women for feeling a certain way. hope u never write about the#weird relationship between u and ur father. or feeling different from ur brother.#or how ur male best friend fucked u over. since it's SO CRINGE. to have ANY feelings caused by a MAN#like be so for real. beloved. nobody is fucking saying this when men do it.#''oh it's cringe to like a woman or feel heartbroken by her.''#controlling women's feelings and actions???? it's more likely than u think.#btw op is nonbinary do NOT be gender essential on this post i'll kill u with my teeth#edit: btw for the person who dm'd me ''when is it misogyny and when is it actually valid''#pretty easy. if a man had done it#would it be cringe? . like if a man sang a sad song about ''she broke my damn heart''?#if he said ''i want to have kids with her'' or something sexually explicit?? like would u even LIKE IT if a male poet had said it?#& if it's like. nah a 35 yr old man being upset about this is cringe too. yeah it's just cringe. that exists. we both know it does.#but .... often i see this ONLY about women. and i can't help but hear like. how back in middle school#we were fed the lie ''girls mature faster.'' ... why do i have to be emotionally regulated? but if a man wrote about the same things?#..... idk . im pretty anti cringe culture to begin with. but this one feels so bad to me . ur still a person past 33.

A prototype of unreleased G5 My Little Pony "Scout Kindheart" who was going to be a tie-in with the Girl Scouts!
Although this pony was unreleased on the mass market, someone on the My Little Pony Trading Post found a bunch of them for sale in Vietnam (which is where MLPs are currently made) and has been selling them at a very reasonable price (and sending little goodies with the packages, too)!

Something kinda tasteless about the way that alongside the concerns of "Batman needs someone to rein in his aggression/edginess" (mostly a meta concern,) "Robin is a symbol of undying hope right alongside Batman, Superman, and the police system," and "now that the thought's crossed my mind I think being Robin would be pretty sweet actually," one of Tim's points for why he should be Robin at the end of A Lonely Place of Dying is "we need to show the criminals of Gotham that they can't just kill Robin and expect to get away with it!" Because. They can. That's exactly what happened.
Using that line of reasoning, Tim makes the claim that the idea of Jaybin's life as disposable and inconsequential is heinous and bad, his killing something impermissible, but instead of disproving said idea they allow it to become true and devote their energy to making sure it doesn't become widely known as such. By covering his death up, they actually are permitting his murder to go unaddressed and deeming it acceptable, even taking away the opportunity for it to be consequential to anyone outside of Bruce's inner circle by not spreading the news. As much as we say "oh Bruce was a great dad because losing Jason crushed him" and "he almost considered trying to kill the Joker one time," he in all tangible areas did not do anything about Jason's death. Setting aside the question of killing the Joker or not, it's still shown in Batman Year 3 that Bruce's reaction to Jason's death in the time til Tim showed up was to hide away everything Jason owned and carry on with business as usual, a little angrier. Bruce didn't make any changes or actually evaluate anything in a significant way after the warehouse and Jason's death didn't warrant any tangible consequence, that's evident from reading the comic. I know some may disagree, and I acknowledge the room for interpretation, but in order to discuss Tim's reason we have to concede that it is explicitly written into this specific comic as something Bruce and Tim both recognize as fact, because it serves as the foundation that this reason is built on: there is good reason for the criminals to believe there would no punishment for killing Robin based on the actions Bruce did or didn't take in response. The concern about the public realizing there are no consequences for killing Robin wouldn't be reasonable if it wasn't true, if there actually were.
While they recognize that Jason's death came to pass largely without consequence, the fact itself is less of an issue to both Bruce and Tim than letting criminals actually find out that it doesn't have consequence. They know it's unjust, the notion that Jason can be killed without repercussion (and in making an effort to minimize his murder confirm it to be true,) but their concern isn't for what actually happened to Jason or the lack of proper response. At least on the vigilante side of things, the problem is public perception and continuing to uphold an image of Batman as just and diligent while permitting him to ignore injustice against those close to him. There's no efforts taken to actually disprove the idea that killing Robin would lack impact, what Tim proposes is just making it harder to prove right.
I think the best way to word what comes across tasteless for me here (aside from the side commentary on the unstoppable might of the institution of police and how it's an exemplar of heroism) is that beyond Tim's victim-blaming of Jason during his stint as Robin, (discussed in more depth by people who can word it better than me,) in the base text of a Lonely Place of Dying, it is foundational to the initial premise of Tim as Robin that part of his motive for being Robin hinges on accepting what happened to Jason as something that cannot be allowed in their pursuit of justice or go unaddressed for reasons completely unrelated to the actual harm, and then intentionally erasing the event and the way in which it was allowed and did go unaddressed. No matter how much it's claimed in later comics that Bruce was faultless and Jason doomed himself, Tim's Robin came to be at least in part (in-universe) as a cover-up for the lack of action taken about Jason's death, and by extension as an effort to overwrite his time as Robin and an individual entirely. And thought it wasn't the way his character viewed it, Tim wasn't passively complicit in it or going along with a poor grieving man, the intentional and deliberate erasure of Jason as a murder victim and the injustice of his posthumous treatment was part of his opening pitch.
#truly just “we can't let them think we do the thing that we do” at its core#because the thing that we do is bad and not fair like we want to look fair and would have consequences we don't want. so they can't know."#i see too much of people saying Jason took Dick's mantle so he shouldn't be mad at Tim when 1. he wasn't mad at Tim for it. didn't happen#and 2. Jason became Robin because Bruce was lonely and Jason was homeless and Tim became Robin in an effort to minimize Jason's death#Jason worried Dick wanted his job back (implying he would give it up if he wanted) and Tim shamed the dead kid he was hiding the murder of#can we spot the differences?#you can't really say Jason's gripe of “my death changed nothing” was off-base#when one of tim's first points on panel was that they should be giving the consequences of his murder the landlord special#i feel like all of the ways in which they made tim “more likable” were just leaning back into the status quo they branched out from#like “Jason doesn't like cops and believes they fail victims? well Tim thinks they're the good-hearted models for what a real hero is”#“Jason has conflicting opinions about cases with Batman? Tim is trying to bring back the true Batman who works exactly like he always did”#“Tim is nice and sweet and comes from a good family and has been there from the start. he respects what Batman is”#he's nice enough but his character is (meta not in-universe) rooted in a return to the safe classics that bring us good sales#idk why fanon props him up as the sad shunned outsider of the batfam when he is fr designed to maintain the norm and not rock the boat#also it's immensely funny to see Bruce accuse Jason of being needlessly violent over his emotional state as Robin#when not only does Bruce do exactly that and only that when Jason dies but he was doing it BEFORE too!#Oh No! he went from brutal to criminals and forgoing proper investigations to being brutal to criminals and forgoing proper investigations!#jason todd#batman#bruce wayne#robin#dc comics#discussion of tim drake#again not using the character tag because this isn't the most nicies#but i honest don't hate him that much

I guess you could say we believe it *because it’s impossible*.
Alt text: Frames from the finale of Revolutionary Girl Utena with overlaid text.
1: Prince Dios lounges on the ground, looking disinterested. Text reads: YOU — "They think their success is a given."
2: The same shot from another angle, showing Akio mirroring Dios as he looks on with a fruity drink nearby. Text reads: "Yes."
3: Anthy bites her knuckle, tears in her closed eyes, looking torn. Text reads: "Whereas we understand"
4: Utena lying crumpled on the ground as the million swords bear down on her. Text reads: "that we'll almost certainly fail,"
5: Utena and Anthy's outstretched hands touching. Utena's hand is visibly bloody. Text reads: "which is what allows us the chance to succeed." End alt text.

This kit was much simpler of a build than I was expecting, and a very fun one! Maybe I'm just used to Kotobukiya's over engineering when it comes to their cats, especially their early ones, but I was really surprised by the range of motion it has, as well as the lack of overly fiddly bits and pieces. Overall, a smooth and satisfying build!

alright single digit days so it’s time for last-minute baseless + unfounded veilguard theories!!!!!!! I’ll go first: the reason spite can’t take over lucanis’ body is because that body is ALREADY being possessed by lucanis, who was in fact dead and buried in the wake and rebound to a new form in the ossuary
#dragon age: the veilguard#veilguard spoilers#datv#datv spoilers#da4 spoilers#lucanis dellamorte#ANYWAYS additional spoilers/expansion on this theory in the tags ->#the whole ‘Zara thought it would be funny if you were the REAL demon of vyrantium’#but it’s about lucanis being the possessor not the possessed…. hmm hmmmmmmm hm#torn between that being done intentionally or them trying to bind spite but lucanis has already moved back in#and if I MAY#worldbuilding on this: flesh golem lucanis still bound to zara’s orders#so when you go to fight Zara and she orders him to kill you ohhh he is trapped inside his own(?) body watching himself try to kill yoj#and at the end of the fight you have the option to kill or spare him#and if you spare him ohohoho enjoy the KNIFE inside you!!!!#(post battle after Zara is killed not by his hands the GUILT the SHAME the HORROR)#(IF he’d even survive it!!!!! and what then!!!!)#anyways all this to say the tags aren’t part of the theory they’re just what I’d do to him ¯\_(ツ)_/¯#I do wanna hear other theories I do not care how outlandish and unlikely they are#I want to incorporate em into my worldview#da posting#OH YEAH additional crumb for this theory: caterina being 1) filled with grief and 2) an absolutely evil woman commissioned the new Lucanis#his scruples about blood magic are his OWN right like the crows don’t have a formal stance on blood magic#that’s all lucanis’ moral compass (which illario even comments on in the Wigmaker job)#caterina missed her grandson? WRONG the first talon needs the protege she poured three decades of torture into back

It says something about the spirit of the hero that the first Link was literally Such A Scoundrel. Hylia's first chosen running around breaking chandeliers and antiques for the in universe equivalent of 5 dollars. Sometimes it even COSTS him money to bust into some woman's house and destroy all her precious ceramics and boy oh boy does that not stop him. Sets the local bully up with a spooky ghost girl gf because fuck you. Put a chest in front of him and tell him Absolutely Under No Circumstances Open it, immediately getting his grubby little hands all over it. Half the dialogue options are just the choice to be the most Sarcastic Little Shit. And he's STILL comes off as the calm, serene, levelheaded one of the family.
