I finished wild arms yesterday! what a great game
#wild arms#wild arms 1#cecilia adlehyde#jack van burace#rudy roughnight#earth golem#art tag#i really really loved this one im so glad i finished it#its really fun and not overly long for a jrpg (about 30 hours)#also gets my seal of approval in that despite what all promotional material would have you believe cecilia is the main character#like its not even a question she just is. compounded by the fact that if you want to you can play as her the whole time#my biggest criticism would prob be that by the end of the game the party feels kind of unbalanced especially in boss fights#cecilia can do so much shit and the boys basically just do different kinds of big damage lol#cecilia can also do big damage but shes too busy healing and buffing and debuffing and all that#its not all that hard though so its not a huge deal just kind of funny#anyway i definitely want to play the rest of the series at some point. apparently theres an anime too?? exciting

Bungou Stray Dogs: Dead Apple and how âability usersâ (opposite to ânormal peopleâ) learning to accept themselves through the acceptance of their own abilities is a queer metaphor of acceptance of own's sexual orientation and gender: an essay by me
#bsd#bungou stray dogs#About: Dead Apple. Watched this a while ago with a friend and it was a lot of fun!!!#If you're reading this: thank you so much for hanging out with me I had such a good time (ă
ÂŽ Ë )âĄ#Next to general considerations: wow they were right that Bungou Stray Dogs movie sure can Bungou Stray Dogs#It's always nice to see the detailed animation and elaborate backgrounds of movies. The animation quality compared to the manga isâ#definitely noticeable and it's nice to see. That said... I still like the season 2 art style more? And I'm speaking strictly of art style.#The s2 one looks more soft and smooth while the da one is so much more rough.#The plot is... Very bsd-esque I don't think there's anything to add.#In my opinion Kyouka's arc is the one that turned out best tbh. I really like her narrative development and personal growth in this movie.#I like the complexity of her state of mind. how full of contradiction she is. I especially appreciate the recurring small changes ofâ#expression that indicate how she thinks differently from Atsushi even if she doesn't voice them. The fight between her cynicism and herâ#kind nature. It's all very interesting.#Atsushi's development is interesting too. Although all the open questions about his ability we still have kind of leave me frustrated#I don't feel very strongly about Akutagawa in this movie? I meanâ he's there. The ss/kk scenes are always great and in character and a joyâ#to witness no matter what they do. He just doesn't shine particularly? Or at least personally I dont find the âproving my strength againstâ#myselfâ narrative arc to be particularly interesting. Imo it was a lot better flashed out in the da stage play! With the complexity thatâ#the dialogues with Chuuya added to the character. Dazai attacking him. And especially Aktgw understanding that Rashomon wasn't testing Aktg#but rather only expressing that unstoppable rage that is also Aktgw's own. About that I checked out the play and I really liked it!!#I only watched highlights (aka: ss/kk and chuu/aku scenes) but there's some stuff I really like. I like the conflict between Aktgw andâ#Chuuya and how Chuuya messes up with Aktgw at first maliciously and then amiably. It's interesting how Atsushi himself observes that Kyouka#and Akutagawa get along. And especially the sskk almost-handholding and Atsushi saying Akutagawa has a nice profile were cute akjdhbsawhjb#Next. Da really is shipping paradise (â„ïčâ„) Sorry but... It is. oda/zai. daz/atsu. ss/kk. s/kk. fuku/mori. chuu/aku. It really has everythin#and the moments are so good!!!! What else. Wish we'd see more of Tsujimura. And Christie. And women in general tbh.#Alsoâââââ Atsushi's tiger form in this movie is ATROCIOUS. I've said it before but it's crazy how a franchises that relies so heavily onâ#fanservice came up with something this hideous. Man the movie overall was pretty but Atsushi sure wasn't. Firmly stand by the beliefâ#that only Akutagawa would find that form attractive.#Oh last note. honestly if we're ready to accept a movie where an antidote has effect AFTER the person has effectively died then we reallyâ#can't complain about any kind of insanity the manga brings up#random rambles

#I also think american exceptionalism and their bizarre cultural one-way street isolation plays a role#i think it's different if you actually see other countries as equals and see that they have female leaders and realise that it's#not going downhill it's not solving everything it's business as usual and it's just another boring fucking politician#and this makes the gender of the candidate LESS (not saying no) issue people obsess about or feel a need to discuss#(e.g. people laying into the appearance of female politicians? certainly misogyny. making jokes about cooking and shoes? definitely too#but I feel like that was more a 'gotta insult these fucking politicians' and gender being one of the targets when people want to do that)#but if you're the US and giant parts of the populace think they're the specialmost extra complicatedest country in this our planetworld#the fact that it works for so many other countries takes a much lower priority#because 'yeah sure a woman can govern a....'checks notes' Fineland and United Kingdom of England or Germanland'#but the US of freedom? we got a red button and what if she's on her period!!?! We are a REAL country!!'#not to mention how deeply entrenched the idea of the US as being CONSTANTLY under attack is and the president as the PROTECTOR#and that protector needs to be daddy of course#i also think the different attitude to leaders plays a role#because a part of misogyny is how much people love to HATE women - to sink their teeth into them and demonise them for every flaw#so any country that has some kind of weird worship of their leaders or sees them as some heroes or extra-class of person*#in my opinion might have a harder time to elect a woman because the moment a woman becomes a candidate#you just have to find the right flaw to go on and on about to make the population absolutely hate her or question her competency#meanwhile the general slack we cut men means they can do whatever but somehow still be compatible with that concept of leadership#(*not just the US ....though a lot of other countries with similar attitudes to their leaders are not standing out as democracies tbh)

it's kinda fascinating to me how welt has been "at the end of his life" for like. several decades by now. he goes on and on about how old and weary he is and how "his job is done" and his story is over but- oh wait i just realized i can phrase this in a very funny way- he's kind of sorta immortal now because he got the herrscher core back, so he's really just stuck in the epilogue for all eternity
#kdj will never leave my brain. clearly#hsr#or uh#hi3#???#idk?#ill just tag the guy himself#welt yang#like his story could have ended several times#with his self sacrifice during the second eruption or his self sacrifice in the sea of quanta or his self sacrifice in apho#man welt get your shit together#or with him teaching bronya to be his successor and her surpassing him#but none of these character arcs were about him. they were moreso about the effect he had on other characters. while he stays the same#and it makes sense because when does the guy ever think abt himself lol#but all of these endings would have been tragic in a way#so maybe this epilogue he's stuck in. the. the space train he's stuck in.#HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA#i ought to tag orv at this point#maybe that epilogue (hsr) is what he needs. because we can tell that things are different for him#and that he's gradually talking about going home less and less#but all the tragedy of his self sacrifices happened bc even while crushed by grief none of his friends/family saw another way out#and he had to take responsibility again. but if this happens in hsr - with him going back to self sacrifice without question#do you think the astral express crew will let him? or are they gonna try to find another way? without letting him do it all on his own?#um. this is very long#hsr meta#i guess

allison and five are actually fascinating to write together. allison is the sibling for checking on people and asking in plain english if they're okay but five would literally rather bleed out than show a shred of vulnerability
#he gets there eventually but it takes time for the trust to build#eg. viktor gets the apocalypse lore dump on five's first night back (not used to their insane lives so thinks he's crazy)#klaus gets answers if he asks questions (he doesn't) (he's barely paying attention) (ghosts are constantly screaming at him)#but diego doesn't get anything until his friend is killed by the commission. like paying back a debt. because five brought them here#same with five telling luther about his time in the commission after they attacked the house#ben is DEAD but they were probably close. which is. worse. it's worse than if they weren't#(all of five's first picks aren't an option for one reason or another - death; drugs; death AND drugs - which must be very frustrating)#and five. well. he does need to show some measure of vulnerability to get allison on board#that's interesting actually#they have the same driving motivation (I would kill for you/I would die for you/I need you here no matter what)#allison knows loss but five knows LOSS and once he reminds allison that Her Daughter will die too she's like okay screw this what do we do#because wanting to protect your children from harm is NORMAL actually#REGINALD.#the umbrella academy#allison hargreeves#five hargreeves#tv: tua

What do u think Kiran is
How do u think the order sees kiran
*slowly sits up in my chair*
I think Kiran is a very normal person. This is someone you and I have met before. Be that from the other side of grocery store cashier, waiting in the same elevator, or walking by on a crosswalk. Kiran is a civilian from our world trying to roll with the punches of being warped somewhere completely alien. And you can see it in how they conduct themselves.
I always have a lot of fun writing Kiranâs dialogue because their casual modern speech almost feels like a dialect in comparison to the more formal fantasy tone everyone else speaks with. An âainâtâ will never exit Alfonseâs mouth, you know? And thereâs a difference in âDo you have gold?â vs âYou got gold?â To me, this gives Kiran an air of unfamiliarity to anyone they interact with. Letâs use Grima as an example, because it doesnât sound like this grammatical change would make much of difference until Kiran has the audacity to hit Grima with a bro mid sentence. But thatâs just how they talk. And as sweet and friendly as they are, thereâs always moments like that to remind that no one has the cultural context to fully understand Kiran. Except for the audience, who can realize that Kiran let the customer service voice drop to talk to Grima like heâs an actual person.
And thatâs just about how they talk! This view is only emphasized by every other thing about them! Theyâre a lovable goof, which is normal chill person behavior in the audienceâs eyes but feels REALLY ODD to the characters of FEâs medieval fantasy war setting. There is this air of unknown about them that the more socially perceptive will pick up on and will try to come to a conclusion about. Example, I imagine Soren would interpret a lot of this as a dangerous and deeply annoying lack of intelligence from someone he has the displeasure of sharing a tactics table with. Or looping back to the Grima example, he would totally think Kiran has greedy ulterior motives behind that pleasant facade. It takes a lot of work for those types to realize that the discrepancy present isnât really any of those things. But I also wouldnât be too surprised if Kiran doesnât try to directly prove any of those assumptions wrong unless they have to.
Why? Well now itâs time for the implications! Oh how we love the implications.
Because the Summoner is a different story. No one has any fucking clue what that is.
I can tell you what Kiran has pieced together so far. Summoning people from across time and space is apparently not easy. Itâs not some school of magical study that some mage could pull off with enough time and research. Trust, Eitri tried. Itâs a lot of complex moving parts. For example, the contracts. The contracts Kiran automatically binds their summoned to donât even compare to the ones Veronica used in book 1. They are far more intense and infinitely harder to break. The only way out of them is if Kiran wills it so. Not even death is an option, because Kiran can come in for the revive. If they had to guess, itâs an older, more completed version of the art. Something lost to time. But no matter the case, Kiran has the ability to take full control of whoever they manage to summon. From a lowly farmer to the divine. And their power only grows.
In a similar vein, if there was any character to canonically see the hud, I think it would be Kiran. Itâs genuinely part of their power set. I have previously described Kiran as the party mage until Veronica shows up to be the actual mage, but it would be way more accurate to call them a mystic/seer. They see the map, everyoneâs stats, and is doing a fast amount of math to give the combat forecast. Then, upon processing all this information their enemies couldnât dream of having at their disposal, Kiran can telepathically communicate any change in plans to anyone under contract. Kiran is not inherently some great tactician the moment they touch ground in Askr; they simply can do things no one else can. Theyâre learning the actual tactics part on the fly. This makes them simultaneously the largest ace up the Orderâs sleeve and potentially its biggest liability. If they fall, it could cause a whole system cascade. By that same token, some of the biggest threats the Order has faced are the ones who do their research and rightfully target Kiran.
Now. Thinking critically about all that. Thatâs downright terrifying. A ridiculous amount of power has been dropped callously into Kiranâs lap and they have to work extremely hard to be moral with it. Itâs terrifyingly easy not to be. It would actively take less effort to âtake the reinsâ as it were. But in order to be able to sleep at night ever again, they go the extra mile to not invalidate the will of their summoned. To take over like that. To make a colony of worker bees out of people. Because oh dear god they just summoned a child and the fact that they could easily force them to fight and die for them, only to be revived and do it all over again, is HAUNTING. No. No the Order has an in house orphanage now. This kid is getting adopted and cared for god damnit or Kiran might just pop a blood vessel. And sure that child is going to be a child and there will never be a world where they get along with everyone else, but thatâs just going to need be a problem they address when they get there and not an excuse to use Hubris; the power set. Now replace the word child with everyone they ever summoned and you have the wider philosophy they apply to the entire Order.
Theyâre hyper aware of the power imbalance. They hate it with every bone in their body. They work really hard to correct it in whatever way they can.
So Kiran might not jump on the opportunity to correct those who think lesser of them. Itâs⊠oddly comforting to know someone is keeping a critical eye on them. Holding them accountable. Especially since so much of the order just thinks of them as this quirky yet well meaning host. And, really, what can they even do about that? They have gone over the contract with every hero they summon and despite that they still choose to stay. So, what, do they try to inspire more mistrust? The problem with that they would have to actually do acts that intentionally inspire mistrust. And even if that was successful they canât just waste the extra man power because every other month thereâs some new divine asshole who wants them all dead. And if they fail that means they have to start their life from square one and god they canât do that again soâ
Just breathe Kiran.
Itâs fine. Youâre fine. Just breathe.
You have work to do.
#Yay!!! Kiran Fire Emblem!!!!#In case it wasnât clear from about the second to last paragraph onwards is Kiranâs internal monologue/thoughts on the situation#I started having ~fun~ because those two questions started to dig at what I find compelling about Kiran#but I canât quite begin to convey without just showing you whatâs going on in their head#In my actual opinion Kiran is that theyâre still the ray of sunshine we see in the day of a life comics#But they are driven by the same loneliness that haunts every other main character#This combo makes their misery harder to notice#As for what the summoner is it could be really thematically resonant if Zenithâs pantheon made the thing thatâs killing them#It certainly has something to do with Askr and Embla. the summonerâs powers are employing both of their domains#Unfortunately Loki is probably the only one alive to tell the tale and she has her own motives in this (Ted Talk for another day)#You can probably see why I think they should be thematic parallels to each other tho#Anyway to answer Kiranâs question ITS BECAUSE THEY SEE YOU TRYING YOU DUMBASS. THAT COUNTS FOR MORE THAN YOU THINK.#So yeah. My Kiran Fire Emblem headcannons for your reading pleasure.#I refuse to be normal about the character they could be if IntSys let them be one#fe kiran#feh kiran#fe summoner#feh summoner#fire emblem#fire emblem heroes#feh#feh ted talk

Itâs honestly kind of funny that people are using Kieran as an example of why BioWareâs decision is bad when heâs probably the number one example Iâd use to argue in favour of it.
Thereâs a kid whoâs the vessel of one of the Draconic Old Gods. A kid who is the human reincarnation of an entity that convinced the Magisters to break into the Fade. A kid powerful enough to override an Eluvian and redirect it to the Fade. And his involvement amounts to nothing because not everyone took that route in a game that came out half a decade prior. Like he should have monumental implications for Thedas, but instead heâs literally so inconsequential that they didnât even hire a voice actor to portray him; they just let Claudia Blackâs son do it.
#dragon age#dragon age veilguard#datv spoilers#datv#dragon age veil guard spoilers#We already saw in Inquisition that they had trouble with the multiple of mutually exclusive decisions#so they decided to put the game in a new area and not be weighed down by all of that#yes I would have liked if they could thread the needle#but they couldnât and honestly Iâd prefer this to inconsequential cameo#also âwhatâs she going to say if I ask her if she has a kidâ do you often walk up to women and ask if they have kids#also also âwhat about who became Divineâ her nameâs Victoria question answered#dragon age discourse#just to be safe

"Wait is that lore?" moments in Antoine's return stream
These ones are likely jokes, but (you can use it in your headcanons):
With Tubbo, explaining his absence by saying "I was dead, I think, but not anymore, I was tired of being dead"
"I couldn't explain to you, it's out of my understanding how I'm dressed. The human mind cannot comprehend how I'm dressed and so the human brain shows it that way, but it isn't exactly like that. It's not powerful, it's just weird"
"You know me well!" "Heh, I know you as if I made you!" *silence* (closest to maybe serious)
These ones are more serious:
He isn't romantically interested by Cucurucho, he just likes his ass (that totally a human is aro that's what I mean)
He really missed Pomme, he stopped coming because without her it wasn't interesting anymore (this one is just cute)
Very invested in knowing what happened to the eggs while they were away
Accidentally gave Pomme one of the books Ourson (I think it's this one?) gave him, immediately panicking when he realized. When Pomme asks what it was, he first tries to pretend not to understand, and is pretty serious when he tells her that it's nothing; he'll tell her about it one day, and it's his little secret garden, everyone should be allowed to have secrets, don't she think? she isn't against secrets, right?
Certain that the eggs went to some kind of other dimensions/got doubles?? I mean there was a theory inspired by Stranger Things but despite what Pomme is saying he's not letting go of the idea
After asking Pomme if she met dark Cucurucho and she talks about the Watcher: "Je crois pas qu'on parle de la mĂȘme chose. LĂ tu me parles de l'oeil, et moi je pense que je te parle de quelque chose d'autre. Je pense que tu me parles du Watcher... lĂ oĂč moi je te parle d'autre chose." ("I think we're not talking about the same thing. Here you're talking about the eye, and me I think I'm talking about something else. I think you're talking about the Watcher... when me I talk about something else" again how does he know the name "Watcher".)
Knows that Maximus is dead, when all the other players seem to have decided to play the "don't know if he's alive or dead" card (bonus: Antoine and Pomme talking about telling Aypierre, and Pomme thinking she won't be able to find the right words "I don't think there are right words..." ok im sad now thanks). Since we're at it, when reading Pomme diary where she worries about Baghera and Antoine being dead, saying they can't be dead, he doesn't share that worry in the slightest, as if he knows Baghera's not dead (this one's dubious and I am very willing to put it as cc!Antoine not thinking rp)
He and Pomme are talking about what she remembers of the Watcher and honestly the whole conversation deserves to be clipped and transcribed. To go with him name dropping the Watcher, he is now only calling it the creature with one eye because that's how Pomme calls it
Pomme explains that the Watcher was observing her and Richas and there was a threatening aura to it, so they immediately fled. Antoine in a very serious voice "You were right to, you were right to, you were right to. Because I think it's this person who was at the origin of your disappearance."
#theres not really lore in his talk with Sunny but they're fun together#completely missed the whole 'you wanna be a star? you're gonna lose your privacy if you do that are you sure?' convo#also the way he's just 'btw have you met my CHILD Pomme? Yeah she's great' you fucking dad#i think antoine will be a sunny defender#him reuniting with Pomme <3#also its fun to rewatch. he's pressing buttons on a snowman decoration. i remember how he loved press the button.#it was foreshadowing.#pomme saying it took her one hour to draw something for Dapper and Antoine jumping to her defense#by saying Leonard de Vinci could take days to make something#qsmp#qsmp antoine#pomme admin must have been so happy for Antoine to be here her lore with her memory loss and what happened to the egg is finally played with#anyway with how antoine was also insistent to learn more about the watcher by questioning pomme#I am betting even more on Antoine knowing things about the Watcher

ok. question.
ortega ended up hallucinating sidestep after they "died", but sidestep doesnt know about that. they know it got bad, but never the full extent of how their death affected them. so if your sidestep Did learn, if they found out ortega looked for them in every little piece they could, would that change anything for your sidesteps? would their relationship with ortega be any different?
#pulp speaks#Am i thinking of my âortega sees sidestep posthbâ fic again? perhaps#shameless plug btw yall should read it its called 'seen' on ao3 and i still like it#but anyway the important bits: ive been thinking about it with my sidesteps and its really interesting to me how different they are#but theyre all some variation of âi didnt know you /cared/â#caine is. uncomfortable with the idea#i genuinely dont know why but i do know that in the end their feelings on the matter are âwhats done is done and im back nowâ with a small#âill try not to leave againâ mixed in#meanwhile cyrus is a deer in headlights over it#itd be way worse if he learned it when they met again- i feel like if he learned ortega was still that attached he wouldve left and never-#-come back. he would still want to Now but hes too tangled in his relationships and ortega is his /friend/ and leaving would just explode i#-his faceâ god Damnit ortega you son of a bitchâ he shouldve just run. you werent supposed to drag him into caring about people again.#cecilia would have mixed feelings about it. i think shed resonate with it a lot for reasons she doesnt want to face#but it would also hit her like a goddamn Truck that he chose to move on/replace her rather than try get her back and its easier to get mad-#-about that than question her own feelings. but also maybe she could use this to her advantage? maybe this time he knows theres always a-#-chance hell come back for her next time. maybe. shes hoping there wont be a next time.#cynthias an interesting case because shes in love with ortega. deeply. but ortega /never came for her/ when she /promised/ and cynthia-#-is still furious about it#ortega hallucinated her in death but she couldnt put the pieces together and go looking herself? she cared enough to look for her but-#-not enough to save her?#she would still end up settling on bitterness for abandoning her but the information would shake her to her core#anyway. i think ortega should be used as a squeaky toy đ#caine lynzal#cyrus becker#cecilia rider#cynthia garcia#ortega#sidestep#fhr

imo karlachâs soul coin usage seems like it should have been a little more significant than it was.
she only ever really stops to consider the magnitude of burning through a personâs soul for power during an origin playthroughâotherwise she rationalizes to the player that theyâre doomed anyway, and if using them gives her an edge in combat, why not use them for good instead of leaving them to be used by evil? the dialogue with lann tarv in act 2, where he tells the story of each soul he's handing over to her, tries to humanize each soul coin, and still she doesnât really budge and disapproves pretty heavily if she's told no in regards to using them.
it just seems like something that could have caused some kind of conflict between her and wyll, given he sold his soul to a devil in dire circumstances and takes issue with the player for sleeping with mizora, because she 1) is mizora, and 2) similarly expends tormented souls during her romance scene, even if for a different purpose. but it just... never really comes up?
i love karlach. but that seems like it should have gone Somewhere, from a writing standpoint? karlach values wyll as a person but is willing to use currency forged from souls like his for the sake of a temporary power up. she knows the soul is consumed when she uses them. that whole exchange with lann tarv is there to emphasize that every soul coin she destroys was a person once. but it all kind of loses narrative purpose if this combination of factors doesn't mean anything? karlach doesn't change at all in her willingness to use soul coins, no matter what the player says or how much she cares for wyll.
idk. missed opportunity that wyll doesn't have any dialogue about this, of all things.
#destroying souls is otherwise unambiguously portrayed as A Pretty Bad Thing To Do in bg3. so it just seems weird to go#yeah using this destroys a soul but it makes me stronger and it feels GREAT!#and stick to that no matter what without really questioning it much#ethel's vicious mockery line about her selling every soul but her own just doesn't hit right if it flat out doesn't. matter at all.#plus. idk. something something soul coins apparently are difficult for non-evil characters to even have in their possession#so using them and fully destroying the souls within seems kind of. idk. significant from a character standpoint#disclaimer: not character hate obvi. i love karlach and her relationship with wyll is very good.#but idk. conflict is interesting! and that seems like somewhere it should have happened if you have both in the party#karlach sans wyll might never question using soul coins but karlach with wyll probably should have?#in the same way wyll's character changes somewhat whether he chooses to kill karlach or spare her#as it stands this is like how using the tadpoles makes a grand total of one roll in the game harder. there's no bite. no consequence. idk#not every character has to change to be good but idk. idk!#it all seems set up to make her reconsider at SOME point#and that she just doesnât is in itself a pretty significant moral compromise on her part#that is just not. recognized or discussed basically ever#karlach#karlach cliffgate#bg3#baldurâs gate 3

kiryuu sibling stasis post-32 is so interesting to me. nanami tries to leave and is (temporarily but also, crucially, violently) prevented from doing so by touga and akio. after this experience she puts distance between herself and them: she leaves tougaâs phone in the car, she resigns from the student council (though she dons her old uniform still), she repeatedly dismisses and undermines the authority of the rose code, of end of the world, of akio, of touga. but sheâs still in ohtori, isnât she? uncomfortable with the idea of leaving, uncertain if itâs really possible. she tried before, and it hurt her. deeply. itâs so interesting to me, nanamiâs agency and how she limits her exertion of it after 32, when she realises it for what it is. contrast that with touga, who accepts this weird stalemate between them, who is, really, uninterested in having any relationship of any kind with nanami if he canât gain something from her. heâs very passive with her after 32, compared to the passivity heâd always feigned towards her before in order to stoke reactions from her and then exploit them. i was thinking about how touga has always been able to sever his relationship with nanami, but chosen not to; first out of a sense of obligation (âwe should live to help each otherâ) then a realisation of how that could be exploited. i was thinking about how nanami has never realised her ability to leave, in part because it is limited by touga and the harm he does her. i was thinking about the desperation and confusion akio calls out to anthy with as she leaves. i was thinking about how different that is to the kiryuusâ strange semi-breakdown; touga doesnât want or need nanami, and nanami might love her brother but she cannot trust him or feel safe around him, doesnât want to see him anymore; sheâs itching to leave, and just a little scared (you know, because last time she tried that her brother assaulted her), and heâs not doing anything because ignoring her means he doesnât have to deal with the emotions of her leaving or staying. something something gendered power dynamics something something tragic siblings
#local kiryuu sibling enjoyer has thoughts about them#i wrote this like three days ago but itâs getting posted now i have to speak my truth#touga loves a bit of inaction#nanami doesnât but what the fuck else is she gonna do?? be brave? she tried that already#and she WILL try it again and i donât think touga will try particularly hard to stop her#i think he might try a little but in doing so heâll just become more aware of how much he doesnât want to do that#and is only doing it bc of a vague sense of obligation to a perspective on life that heâs already questioned a la utena#im just. i have so many feelings about them. i bet none of you were aware of that fact already#i am once again wondering: does touga love nanami? what does that mean for each of them?#and im concluding: i really donât think he does#i think heâs felt obligation to her and turned bitter towards that emotion and her in turn#i think he has no idea how to feel about her so he ignores the problem and exploits HER feelings as he thinks he understands them#until he realises that he doesnât and has to deal (a little bit) with the ramifications of that#touga and anthy when nanami makes them self reflect. or swagever. the 32 way. neither of them would ever admit this but itâs true#dais.txt#her tragedy her triumph

okay, bc i have seen this argument alot now (and it also seems to be the view point of aonuma himself..) is that "zelda cant do everything link does bc whats the point then"
and i take personal offense on that bc its a stupid argument (in. my. very. personal. opinion.- not judging people for liking it. its a ME thing)
whats the point? its that its her. its still a different character, different in story, background, personality, but i WANT to play zelda and she can do everything link does, why does she have to be so restricted and be bend over backwards to find some new way to make her 'useful' when link gets to do basically everything no questions asked (the only thing thats hers is like .. sealing power and sacrificial maiden, which i find a little underwhelming to say the least), if theres no point to it why are there always modders that model swap link with someone else, and in that case it has even less impact bc its an artificial model swap with no changes to the story (which can and should still be different when its the vanilla game with a different protagonist... its still a different character), clearly theres joy in just the model being a different one- and that isnt even to mention the story possibilities, since, again, its stil a different character
if we ever (never ... i know who we are talking about here) get to play as ganondorf i want to him to be just as versatile and active as link is, if we got a point and click adventure game for him instead bc 'whats the point' id be disappointed too- you can find any sort of excuse/explanation for zelda to be singled out but the fact remains it tracks with how female characters are often treated, and that hits a very sore spot for me
i guess i am unfortunately one of those annoying people that want to see female characters be treated exactly the same as male characters, possibly bc i am myself afab but identify as agender and have a deeply personal dislike for anything 'traditional' feminine bc i cannot and never will be able to truly live as myself in real life, it influences all of my work, my work is as just as much as my opinion on this, very personal
and in line with my point about modding, i see theres joy in just beign able to play as her even if its like this, i get that, i also get it for the creative aspect (though that mechanic worries me even more for the future bc it really seems to be the path now that -freedom = good, linear anything = bad-) it is a different idea and its not like i cant see that value- im not trying be "right" either, just bc i have that opinion doesnt mean i need everyone to agree, its a very personal thing, if you like it good for you! not for me though, and i think both of that is equally valid
i just personally wish she was allowed to be just like link, fight just like him but be different bc its still her and not him in the end- to be physically/playstyle like jsut like him, but you know ... as her, i dont think shed stop being zelda if she could wield a sword just like him
i dont really know how to get my point/feelings across, i dont want to step too much into personal stuff nor spam people with something that ultimately doesnt interest me alot, im just saddened by it really
(EDIT: bc i forgot to add this on here again; this isnt as much of a problem as it might sound like here, just the main topic i wanted to talk about; why im so uninterested in it is MAINLY bc i dont trust them to write anything interesting/care about lore anymore after totk, im always on the more pessimistic side that thinks its most likely worse than id hope and i know even the past games arent perfect or super interestingly written, but now its much more just a general distrust, together with everything like the price ... im just much less hopeful and cant get excited until i see more of it, like im waiting for the game to get out and reveal that its just as much of a mess and money i regret spending- kind of fear)
#ganondoodles talks#zelda#person that send an ask about this in just as i was writing this- this isnt about you- i promise you#its soemthing thats been stirring in my mind since yesterday#and seeing so many of those comments- and even aonuma himself say it#just strikes a very very personal sore spot#also to that one commenter on a different post-#no- wanting female characters being allowed to wield a sword is not âbadass female character mysogyniâ (idk how to spell that rn)#the hollywood badass female character thing is annoying but thats bc-#its a super model woman (bc shes ALLOWED TO BE FEMININE you KNOW) fight people in high heels- bc you can be feminie AND badass-#and then does a cringy one liner 'what you thoguht a FEMALE couldnt kick your teeth in'#which comes with alot more baggage of tropes and hollywood etc etc#i long for the 'women are jsut as capable as men' in a very agender way#why do you think i intentionally design alot of female characters non tradtionally feminie or masculine#again this is a very pseronal thing to me#BUT i do think it IS questionable that its her that isnt allowed to fight with a sword#like i dont think thats much of my personal dislike there- but a valid thing to point out no matter the explanations you can come up with#anyway- i dont hate it- but its not for me- i dont want to talk much about it#i hope you can excuse me not answering the asks i got related to this- id just repeat myself#(i guess i should be glad that its the top down one that gets her as the protagonist-)#(i dont think i want to live through seeing her be animated like the typically girly feminine butt wiggle in your face tehehe)#(the botw/totk cutscnes were enough of that for me PERSONALLY)#i dont know how many times i have to say its my very biased personally personal opinion and no a judging of others#to make it clear that no one has to agree with me and i dont want to be convinced of the other opinions of this

im thinking about celestia and the abyss being literal opposites (chaos and order) and im thinking about childe and lumine being sort of embodiments of that, just not in the way we think. after the latest natlan quest its clear to us what the fatui intends and what they want- i think the tsaritsa more than anything loves humanity, which is why she directly opposes celestia who are known for bringing down different civilizations. childe, as Her weapon and Her blade is an extenction of that: he's a blade forged by the abyss, bathed in Her holyness, meant to strike down those who sin. lumine (talking solely about traveler lumine) is the literal sister of the prince of the abyss, she has clear ties to it and at this point in the story still is hesitant about fully opposing him (i love angst). her entire story revolves around chaose and disrupting celestia's (and the fatui's) order. isnt that fun
i think what childe longs for the most is control- control of himself, his life, his powers, his story, his fate. i think what lumine wants the most is freedom, which is just another phacet of chaos
anyways. you see it. the themes are theming
#i think! childe's character is more interesting if you understand his devotion to the tsaritsa as a way to cope with his abyssal corruption#he wants to be good. he needs to be good. he'll do anything She says because She is holy#and the thing with lumine is just. well obviously she opposes the abyss and the abyss order#but i think what scares her the most is how much she understands her brothers motivation#because in his place she wouldve also done the same (also that is what literally happens in the game if you choose aether as the traveler )#the traveler's achilles heel is their devotion towards the people around the#them *#so she cant even entirely disagree with him because she gets him. because theyre the same in blood and flesh- two parts of a whole star#its why dainsleifs question (do you believe your sibling to have betrayed you?) goes unanswered#to make long matters short- lumine sees more of herself whithin the abyss than whithin celestia#and that scares her#childe on the other hand strives to shine in his goddesses light- anti-celestia or not she's still a goddess meant as an envoy +#for the heavenly principles (how can she oppose that which completes her?)#idk if its a mistranslation but childe has voicelines about stepping on the god's throans#does he hate celestia because they have what he will never have?#the answer is yes- a thought that probably also terrifies him and he probably hates himself for it#anyways#chilumi#need i say more

For some reason, the dnd:hat movie has been living rent-free in my head for over a week. Xenk is just rattling around in there right now, having a long talk with Kira about morality, mortality, personal sacrifice, and being a child who saw the Beckoning Death unleashed on their home.
I feel like Xenk would have a lot to say that Kira needs to hear, and be a good listener for the things Kira needs to talk about that she can't tell her dad or Holga. He'd probably benefit from talking to her, too. Kira almost experienced the same tragedy he did when he was her age. It would be cathartic for him to help her through that, knowing he helped save her from ever experiencing what he went through
#edgin and holga want kira to be safe and happy#and I'm sure they'll talk with Kira about what she went through too#but there are a lot of questions Kira might have that they're not equipped to answer#especially about THEM and the tablet of reawakening#and edgin is struggling too much with his own questions about morality and personal preservation vs personal gain vs doing good#xenk is respectable and also patient and understanding and supportive enough to be the perfect confidante for a confused eleven year old#and he's lived the Bad Ending of the traumatic experience she skirted past#she also looks a bit like Ishara#the girl he saw lost in the fog before he ran#and I'm sure the filmmakers did that intentionally so Ishara would remind us of Kira and what was at stake#but it's very easy to turn that around and have Kira remind Xenk of Ishara#dungeons and dragons: honor among thieves#d&d:hat#dnd hat#dnd:hat#xenk yendar#kira darvis#I can't imagine this post will be interesting to more than like. three people#but it's interesting to me!!!#Kira saw one of her parents die in front of her!!#she's eleven years old!!#Xenk has already worked through a mountain of survivor's guilt incurred at a similar age#he's the ideal mentor for her!!#it's all about being the person you needed đđđ#it's all about forgiving yourself for not stopping what happened to you by stopping it from happening to someone else#if you need me I'll be lying in a puddle thinking about grief and processing trauma
