How do you feel about the idea of transfem Berdley?
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
there was some post from like 2021 that was like “I’ve known so many future transfems who acted exactly like berdly as teenagers, he is super annoying now but someday he will become a really cool girl” and it broadened my horizons and also reminded me deeply of one of my best friends

Thoughts on Ralsus?
alright well I think this either means "ralsei and susie as a romantic pairing" or "ralsei is sus". I'm going to assume the former
I like it. in all honesty I'm rooting for them. I don't think it will actually happen, but I love their relationship and their dynamic and I do truly think they would make a good couple. even without any romance though they clearly love each other a whole lot and I just enjoy watching them interact and change each other's lives. it's the sort of thing where like, even if susie was dating noelle, or kris, or both, ralsei would be just as important to her as a partner. they've both got so much love in them
#ralsei can join the krusielle conglomerate and make it a square#also take my hand and follow me into a beautiful vision where ralsei transitions and it becomes yuri#asks

It kinda sucks being both a respected lore-interpretation-person and easily accessible, huh? I've noticed that a few of your semi-recent asks have basically just been "Can you pleeeeeeeease validate this theory for me so I know what to think?" I guess they're afraid to be "on" any idea that hasn't hit the theory cannon yet? Anyway, I hope they stop that, it isn't exactly fun to watch.
eh, it’s not so bad! I appreciate that people respect my opinion enough to be interested in what I have to say, and although I do get a lot of asks about theories I usually only answer the ones that I think I actually have something concrete to say about (not always though. sometimes I just like talking lol). I don’t even really like theorizing that much beyond broad themes and character arcs, but I can just ignore anything that I don’t feel like responding to or don’t have any substantial words for. it’s only really annoying if I get sent the same message over and over.
I am still just a guy though haha. I’m not smarter than anyone else and nobody needs my approval to put a theory out there. believe in yourself 💫
#if it’s not fun to watch though I’ll try to filter it a little more#ftr I get a lot of really sweet asks too I’m just terrible at finding words to respond to praise!!! but I cherish those so much!!#asks

Ok, so I haven’t seen the video in question you talked about, but I’ll take your word for it that it was perhaps a bit silly.
At the same time, I can’t help but feel like it came off as a bit condescendingly “anti-theorist”. Maybe that isn’t what you really meant, but that’s how it came off. You don’t have to like it, but people who do it aren’t idiots who don’t “get” the game and don’t engage with it on an genuine level, it’s just a fun fandom activity, like fanart and fanfiction. I don’t think all theorists believe that their predictions is completely bulletproof or that is all their is to do with the game, it’s just something fun to do while we wait for the next chapters.
Genuine analysis is more interesting I agree, but theorists should have their own space as well without having to be mocked for it. Let’s not gatekeep people on what a “true” utdr fan should or should not do, cause at the end of the day, it’s just fiction, it’s not harming anybody.
y'know what, you've got a point. I was honestly pretty miffed when I wrote that stuff and probably should've just said I don't agree with the reasoning and left it at that. I think it got under my skin in particular because it came off to me as an excuse to make sans the main character again while barely mentioning susie (which, again, I didn't even watch the whole video, so maybe that changed. how would I know). but you're right that there's nothing actually wrong with that, it's just for fun and pretty harmless and it's not up to me to decide what people can or can't do in a fanbase. like damn I've certainly had my own theories that a lot of people agreed with and then turned out to be totally not true. I shouldnt have turned my opinion on one theory I didn't like into a mini-rant about a huge part of the community that I'm not even really involved with, I was just being a pill.
#asks#a theory is not gonna like. change the actual story. so who cares#one of those things I shoulda just bitched about to my friends and not in public lol

well, I wasn’t going to, but since I’ve now gotten two messages about it I decided to check out that video after all.
I’m………. not convinced. might sound hypocritical of me since I compared dess directly to laura palmer myself, but it just makes too many wild claims for me to be able to take seriously. I’m all for looking to the inspirations of something as part of analyzing it, and I even think pointing out the parallels between deltarune and twin peaks is really interesting (obviously). but to go as far as to think the fact that two of deltarune’s inspirations (the mother series and link’s awakening) had twin peaks as an influence, means that deltarune does and will follow the same story structure as twin peaks? that’s too much for me. even if twin peaks was a direct inspiration for deltarune, which we have no proof of outside of toby mentioning david lynch’s body of work, it’s a crazy leap to go from “hey there are some aspects of deltarune that are very similar to twin peaks, maybe the ideas for those aspects came from twin peaks” to “SANS IS A DALE COOPER ANALOGUE AND ONLY GOT CLOSE TO TORIEL TO INVESTIGATE DESS AND THE DARK FORCES AND HE’S SUPER IMPORTANT AGAIN GUYS”.
I’ll admit, I couldn’t even continue with the video after that, so maybe I’m not being fair since I didn’t watch the whole thing. but I’m just so done with people trying to “solve” the plot and the connection to undertale using random facts while completely ignoring the emotional themes of the game and like, how storytelling works at all. it’s true that toby puts a lot of hints to future events in his games and there’s a lot of connections most people dont even think of until they’re revealed, but that doesn’t mean everything is all some big puzzle with treasure at the end. it’s fun to point out parallels and to speculate based on shared themes in other stories, but you can only go so far with that before it just gets silly.
(edit: hey read this)
#asks#second asker I’m sorry this wasn’t very much in response to you. but I think you are also reaching a lot#well you might just be having fun looking for connections and not taking it overly seriously and I couldn’t blame you for that lol#it would be very easy to make a crossover AU if one wanted

how do you feel about the toriel and asgore cutseen in chapter 4? Was it useless? Was it uncomfortable in wrong way? Like somehow toby made it misogynistic """""funny""""" cutseen and acknowledge the horrible trop that is it. At the same time. I have issues with this cutseen but for now I wait
what? that’s kind of a weird way to look at it. I think it’s pretty obvious what the point of that cutscene is? it’s not just like, turning the old “man shows up where woman is going to be with a romantic declaration” thing into something uncomfortable for the fuck of it or just to expose the flaws in that trope. you look at it in the wider context of the story- it’s an escalation. it’s building tension leading to the climax of asgore’s storyline, which WILL most likely be in chapter 5, we already know that. it shows he’s getting desperate, to the point that he’s become oblivious to the emotions of his own family and is willing to go so far as literally stalking his ex. that, paired with the black shard cutscene in the holiday mansion, is (I currently believe) setting asgore up as a potential threat, but leaving enough space to sympathize with him as well. which we probably will once we learn what his involvement with dess’s disappearance/death was, and lots of people already do. is that not what was done with tenna? with spamton? isnt it what’s probably going to be done with carol? showing us a character’s darkest flaws and then asking the audience to not necessarily forgive, but understand and empathize.
I’ve seen a lot of complaints about the “character assassination” of asgore in deltarune, and I get where that’s coming from. we first met him as a noble and kind leader respected by all, forced into a terrible position and stuck between the needs of his people and his own cowardice. and now he’s just this weird loser. but like, personally it’s very easy for me to see this as the same guy in different circumstances. why is a man struggling to survive and mentally deteriorating under the threat of losing everything he loves so much worse than a man who murdered six children? and I’m not by any means defending asgore’s behavior in deltarune, the way he’s acting is awful. but that’s always been the core of utdr’s character development, people who have done or are capable of doing awful things growing and learning ways to treat themselves and others better through communication and connection. it’s just closer to home now that it’s happening in a small modern town rather than a fantasy kingdom.
#asks#analysis#sorry to go off like this im not mad at u question asker. moreso using this as an opportunity to ramble#I think in general people need to look at the big picture more even if the story isnt finished yet

have you heard of the anime Tokyo ghoul
have I Heard of it? umm yes lol. it was too popular for me not to have heard of it, I remember when it was new and exciting and I remember the debates about whether the toxic yaoi was Too toxic and I remember hearing it got mid partway through as happens to so many shows. I think I caught a couple episodes when it was airing on toonami years back, never really held my interest, just not my style of thing. I do love anime gore but I'm also very picky about it

i dont know much about rpgs tbh, deltarune is basically my first one. So I don’t quite understand what’s Susie’s outfit is referencing, can you tell me the inspiration?
sure! I'm kinda of just taking common design elements you see in the girls from some of the more iconic RPGs of the 90s. her outfit probably has the most in common with marle and terra (first two here).

to me this look indicates "an adventurous girl who's strong but still feminine and appealing as a romantic interest".
#asks#the 90s were kind of a golden age of JRPGs and what one would think of as “classic”#chrono trigger and final fantasy vi are still pretty much always listed in the top ten RPGs of all time

Sup'! Wanted to reach out of my usual internet shyness, you're one of my favorite deltarune artists (and artists period), because your style reminds me so much of these old animes (someone else said that already but i thought about it too so I'll say it too) that I've never watched because I wasn't born in time (only saw dragon ball, naruto and the main known stuff before the new gen stuff) I can feel the power of the 90s seeping through my screen, and your art actively gives me emotions other than "wow, cool art" it's beautiful. Also, love your takes on things, and your overall vibes. Hope life is treating you well, stay safe, healthy and happy!
aww, thanks so much! I really appreciate that man :). I wanna say though, most of this stuff came out before I was born too, or even if it was around I wouldn't discover or engage with it until way later. I did grow up with SOME 90s anime, enough that it feels genuinely nostalgic, but most of my love is just because I like the styles that were popular at the time and the hand-drawn/painted animation and colors. and if you're looking for old stuff that hasn't been made easily accessible or widely distributed, piracy is your best friend. sometimes it's your only option, especially for a lot of these obscure 30 yr old OVAs or games. not like any of us have money anyway lol
#exploring shady websites is good for you#remember without piracy toby fox wouldve never played mother 3#asks

in undertale there’s an utena reference, undyne saying “flowery swordswomen” when talking abt alphys’ anime
nope, not necessarily an utena reference. could just as easily be referencing rose of versailles, or possibly even princess knight. probably others too, considering how many women with swords are in anime and how often flowers are used as imagery. that's a pretty surface-level reference anyway, you'd just need to know utena exists without even having watched it. either way it's too vague to be used as proof.

Hi! I wanted to say something because I like being a contrarian. On top of...well, whatever she has going on as "the white pen of hope", maybe another reason why Susie can resist the player's control is because she thinks it's Kris talking? When we tell her what to do in Chapter 1, she thinks it's Kris' voice, and probably in Chapter 2 as well. Noelle says that when Kris talks (when we make them), their voice sounds "on speaker", that because unlike Susie, she remembers the real Kris. Also, even tho I believe that Susie is the wrench in the prophecy, I don't think she can fix everything on her own (no matter how determined she is). After all, the player (not Kris, since it's the soul), is the one who seals the fountain, destroys the titan, and I would even go as far as to say that she can only break the Knight's sword if the player is able to survive their assault. I think the player still has a role to play in the story as a whole, because they have more choice than anyone else (the weird route is my main argument), which is also why I believe that the player might have the final word in said weird route. In the main route, I don't really know, maybe they will, maybe they won't (if we go on the theory that the player is the angel, they we are supposedly getting what we "desire" no matter what)
yeah man I dont think you're being contrarian at all, I don't know where anybody said susie has to fix everything on her own? of course other characters (us included) are gonna play a part in it, as awesome as susie is she's not like, goku. it would be unfair to put all that expectation on her anyway when so much of her character is people projecting their own ideas onto her. idk where the talk about susie being able to "resist" the player came up either, like I don't actually think susie is unique in that aspect. I don't think the player has direct control over anybody but kris. the only reason we've been able to control noelle through them is because she's developed this extreme obedience as a trauma response. and also yeah I think weird route is all about exerting complete dominance over the story in the name of "freedom" so of course the player's will is important, that's like, kinda the whole point?

I feel like susie’s name being spelled differently between undertale and deltarune would also add to the idea that she is The Girl in the prophecy but is different from how she is expected/“meant” to be. I always found that detail odd but it makes some sense in this reading.
I had the same thought. my assumption before now was always just that the name changed during development, in between the first "neighbor's daughter" update and chapter 1's release, and that still might be the case. one of those things that could be something or could be nothing. if it IS something, another detail I find interesting is that undertale's suzy is said to be around the same age as frisk, so presumably in the 8-12 range. in deltarune when first trying to equip a ribbon onto susie, she says "nope. not in 1st grade anymore" which indicates that when she was younger she DID wear ribbons, or was made to.
