So when a celebrity says something pro Palestine or even pro Hamas everyone goes "yeah woo celebrities should always use their platform to talk about issues"
But when a celebrity says "actually killing Israelis is bad" suddenly celebrities shouldn't get involved in conflicts and shouldn't use their platform to talk about issues
It's so blatant that people just mean "celebrities should only boost the opinions we deem correct and should never ever express sympathy for Jews, that's so lame"
I'm so done
#yes this is about the Tara Strong situation mostly but it's also about every other public figure who was shamed#for saying murder of civilians is bad#for saying israelis are human#for pointing out that Hamas are terrorists#it's all disgusting hypocrites who hate seeing Israelis be treated as humans#anyways when do we start gatekeeping everything ever made by jews from antisemites#there's one specific youtuber who i want to go to and say 'actually I'm taking Gravity Falls and Prince of Egypt away from you'#because he clearly hates Jews and i think if you hate Jews you're not allowed to praise our works because itll always be insincere#also please tell me what Prince of Egypt is about. before you starr retweeting your 5000th 'jews are white europeans' tweet#mango rambles#personal fruits#jumblr#ישראל#ישראלבלר

i'd like to think chuuya knows bits of french to some extent bc rimbaud would often randomly exclaim smth or mumble to himself in his native tongue and chuuya would overhear and pick up the little phrases and store it in the back of his mind unconsciously bc of his intrinsically observant nature, only for those phrases to resurface again when he's fighting verlaine and verlaine goes "sacre bleu!" or some shit and chuuya's like "Oh. OH. IVE HEARD THAT BEFORE...WASNT THAT WHAT SUB EXEC RANDOU ALWAYS USED TO SAY...." and verlaine completely halts with a nebulous expression on his face before going "who?????"
#yeah maybe i just said this bc i want to hear chuuya speak french. what of it? shut up.#do you think when verlaine approached chuuya as a mailman and told him to get in the car#his undeniable subtle french accent faintly registered in the back of chuuya's mind as the same tone rimbaud would speak in#and when adam yelled “THATS VERLAINE” the dots simultaneously connected as chuuya realized who the driver was#having stormbringer thoughts again... i miss this sad gay european family sm#hope chuuya brings verlaine a baguette back from france since they're in meursault still#maybe he'll move his ass out of the basement then#bsd

The most recent episode of Interview with a Vampire let's us see Lestat's side of the story and see how it compares to Louis' accounting of their relationship. As a result, it reaffirms just how unreliable of a narrator Louis is, but it also further illuminates elements of his character that the director and writers have been playing with since the beginning of the show.
There's this part in the episode where Lestat turns to Louis and apologizes and it's framed with Lestat turned to Louis on one side and Claudia on his other side. They're the angel and devil on Louis' shoulders, but who is the angel and who is the devil? And as my friend said, Armand and Daniel are placed into that same dynamic with Louis later on. We are being asked to decide who to trust, who's telling the truth, who's the good guy, but the fact of unreliability robs us of that decision.
This whole story is about Louis, he's the protagonist, though not the narrator, and he is constantly being pulled in two directions, no matter when or where he is in his story. He's a mind split in two, divided by nature and circumstance. He's vampire and human, owner and owned, father and child, angel and devil. He's both telling the story and being told the story. His history is a story he tells himself, and as we've seen, sometimes that story is not whole.
Louis is the angel who saved Claudia from the fire but he's also the devil who sentenced her to an life of endless torment, the adult trapped in the body of a child. He's the angel who rescued Lestat from his grief and also the devil who abandoned him, who couldn't love him, could only kill and leave him.
He's pulled in two directions, internally and externally at all times and so it's no wonder that he feels the need to confess, first to the priest, then Daniel, and then Daniel again.
He's desperate to be heard, a Black man with power in Jim Crow America who's controlled by his position as someone with a seat at the table but one who will never be considered equal. He doesn't belong to the Black community or the white community, he can't. He acts as a go-between, a bridge, one who is pushed and pulled until he can't take it anymore. He's a fledgling child to an undead father, he's a young queer man discovering his sexual identity with an infinitely experienced partner. He's confessing because he wants to be absolved, that human part of him that was raised Catholic, that child who believed, he wants to be saved. He wants to be seen.
Louis wants to attain a forever life that is morally pure, but he can't. He's been soiled by sin, by "the devil," as he calls Lestat, and he can never be clean again. Deep down, I think he knows this, but he can't stop trying to repent. He tries to self-flagellate by staying with Lestat and then tries to repent by killing him, but can't actually follow through. He follows Claudia to Europe to try and assuage his guilt. He sets himself on fire, attempts to burn himself at the stake, to purify his body, rid himself of the dark gift.
Louis is a man endlessly trying to account for the pain he has caused and he ultimately fails, over and over again, because he can't get rid of what he is. A monster. He's an endlessly hungry monster. He's hungry for love, for respect, for power, for forgiveness, for death. He's a hole that can never be filled. He can never truly acquire any of those things because he will always be punishing himself for wanting and needing them in the first place. He will never truly believe he deserves them and as a result, can't accept them if they are ever offered. He can never be absolved for he has damned himself by accepting the dark gift and thus has tainted himself past the point of saving.

OT3: casey stoner/his neuroses/the concept of valentino rossi that mostly exists in casey’s head
y'know I have this casey stoner... idk what it is. thematic mind map (literal), let's say, that I like fiddling with and adding things to when the mood hits me. and it does always strike me just how many of his struggles during his careers and issues with the sport can in some way be linked back to the valentino rivalry
casey's sense of isolation? super valentino related. casey's feelings of cultural alienation in a paddock dominated by europeans? even when it's not really related to valentino, casey is the one linking those two things together. casey's issues with other riders not being respectful enough on track? very obviously repeatedly about valentino. casey's discomfort with the performance and entertainment-related aspects of the sport? more valentino. casey feeling treated unfairly by the manufacturers, the media, the marshals, the fans.... keeps coming back to valentino. casey's mystery illness really shouldn't be as relevant to the rivalry as it is, but somehow through this combination of public discourse and whatever comparisons casey's brain is cooking up at any moment in time... there valentino is again
one of the most charming things about valentino's feuds is that in each and every single one, both participants end up being deeply weird about each other? just keep knocking off these banger quotes about the other where you read them and go. hm. what's going on there then. I don't want to make it sound like I think casey is the worst offender with this (not when marc and valentino have their whole thing going on, bidirectionally)... but I do think he's the most susceptible to conflating his valentino issues with like... everything else that was going on in his career. to the extent where his alienation with the sport as a whole, his extreme disillusionment from everything related to motogp, really cannot be meaningfully disentangled from the valentino rivalry. at times it feels like, to casey, valentino literally is the sport. and that's the thing casey dedicated his whole life to!! which means you do inevitably end up regularly going 'wow there's a lot to unpack'. add in a dash of neuroticism...
and yeah you're so right anon!! the neuroses are what end up creating the version of valentino that mostly exists in casey's head, a version that casey is just a touch obsessed with. I always think it's interesting how aware casey is that he doesn't know valentino as a person - and to the extent casey does know him, he gets on pretty well with him... but valentino the person isn't all that relevant to him. it's valentino the character who matters - and can you even really know a character? in the end, all casey can do is rely on his own understanding of that character, as imperfect as it is. and, well, in a way casey is trapped with that character forevermore. if one man comes to embody a sport to such an extent and if that sport has been your life's work, how can you not be a little bit trapped? as he tries to make his peace with the sport and his experiences within it, so too has casey settled on a narrative of valentino that helps him make sense of it all... a very specific understanding of his rival that casey has shaped in his mind and still trots out now when he sells his own version of events to the media. casey learned from valentino, casey learned to be a little more like valentino, casey learned to fight valentino with his own tools, casey tells himself a story of that fight. he still continues to do so - and in the end he will never be entirely free of valentino
#'do you ever talk to valentino' 'i don't talk to europeans' casey buddy what's going on there#'everybody's going on like he's a crippled hero' *pinches bridge of nose*#//#brr brr#batsplat responds#//ht#'x fell first but y fell harder' but make it about feud escalation#it is. interesting. how little the two of them engage in laguna '08 discourse for about two years and then rediscover it in mid 2010#casey's very similar to valentino in that regard in that he doesn't necessarily lash out immediately#but he remembers. and he resents. and he seethes. and then eventually lets it all out and you go 'huh'. very valentino#like it is SO important to remember that after initially losing his temper at laguna... *most* of the laguna quotes are from YEARS later#(apart from that one early 2009 interview with an italian paper where he was clearly just in a FOUL mood like it's dreadful)#I genuinely think casey's mystery illness contributed more to the change in tone of that rivalry than laguna did#laguna laid the groundwork in terms of resentment but you needed something for casey actually to be willing to go ALL in#idk in a way it's the only rivalry where valentino is the one on the receiving end of Remember That Thing You Did Thirty Years Ago#like they ARE similar!! they're ridiculously adept at holding grudges!! they relish twisting the knife!!#I think it's interesting jorge was talking about how valentino is better at him at knowing when to choose his moments to lash out#because you can say casey did the exact same thing. he'd learned to clamp down on his immediate irritable reactions#and instead get himself to a place where he could attack valentino from a position of strength#basically they're the two aliens i'd get to go on a revenge quest for me. like i think they'd be good at revenge quests#conspiracy theories and revenge quests. that's what i think they're good at

every single day I read posts on here that make it so obvious that some people here truly don't understand or comprehend that cultural norms different than their own exist
and this is not even remotely exclusive to usamericans btw so white europeans/australians/canadians do Not even start agreeing w me unless you know your people are being obnoxious too
#like wow do you think some places have quiet public transit as the norm and some places don't?#what should we do about this? I think throw a fit in the tags about how rude everyone is that voted for the other option!#and many such cases like 💀#it's always the white europeans too like dear god if I have to hear one more brit or spaniard start in abt usamericans#I may lose it I just might

Something super valuable about studying history, especially back into ancient times is having an appreciation for how enduring humanity is. Like yeah yeah in the cosmic or geologic or evolutionary schemes we're insignificant, but we have also been through a lot, of our own making and of nature just throwing shit at us. When you think of history as extending back to before modern conceptions of a state or people or culture, and extend your definition of society to more than what resembles nation-states and continental empires, you realize we have been everywhere for very long time, and its hard to really imagine an earth without us.
Even if everything gets fucked to shit by late-stage capitalism or like some random disaster people will live on. Maybe not in super-consumerist mega societies, but there will still be idiots gathering around a fire somewhere to laugh at each others jokes, someone playing with their pet. People will still want to sing and make images on the wall and imagine things. People have lived under wraps of lovingly made cloths in deserts, peoples have lived proudly on horseback on rolling steps, people have found peace and community living in flooding rainforests, people have just been making it even in what may seem to be extreme conditions. So many cultures tell of surviving a world-ending flood, so many cultures declared themself the endstate of history only to become chapters in our textbooks - we fucking endure!
And realizing that even these extremes of societal and ecological collapse have been endured, I can be kinda chill about the fact that nothing will ever be over so we should never actually stop trying to hold together. Holding together doesn't have to mean keeping up an incredibly wasteful and/or inefficient society, it just means doing our best to survive and help those around us. This is not to dismiss the massive amounts of human suffering that come with societal upheaval, but as I am trying to say, focus on helping your neighbor instead of woeing over that which was always destined to fall beginning to fall.
People are more valuable than concepts. Be kind to yourself and others. And uh. If America or something collapses press F to pay respects and think about the cool mythology we'll get to invent about it.
#been thinking too about how ive heard the much of western european thought focuses on history as progress#while elsewhere you get the idea of history as cycle which is so much more accurate#not that society does not build on itself but “progress” implies an end point which will never happen#you can just make each cycle a bit more bearable a bit more humane#the us especially is such a young country in the grand scheme of things built on both some awesome ideals and some massive sins#nothing was ever meant to be forever but maybe it uh was really not meant to bes for so longs#idk maybe im just paranoid but im just thinking about how cooooked my generation is for this culture#but not for this world! very important there will always be a place for people#just not always the concepts we come up with like capitalism lol#shut the heck up#midnight rambles#sometimes i realize its a midnight ramble at the end like i look at the clock and im like --#-- “yeah i wouldnt have typed this at 3pm this afternoon”#history#i love my history books literally everyone ever is in it#its also very long#what do you mean this is a fandom blog?#not fandom

"Porridge is a real thing??" I shout at my British F/Os
"Goldilocks is BRITISH!?" I shout at them in an even higher pitch
#okay i know porridge is a real thing and I think it is like. a European thing and not just UK.#but I had only ever heard of porridge in goldilocks. I never knew it was oatmeal basically.#or variations like. cornmeal based ones and hot cereal and wheat based ones and. WHATEVER.#I just thought this was silly if I was whinging to them about oatmeal and they were like “mm.. :(.. wh. whait that's just porridge we have-#-we have that Kane.“ and I start shouting at them.#Which I mean. it isn't the exact same thing but yknow. I want to say that I really want to try it but it is LITERALLY a thing of oats.#You cook it in some milk or water and then it's done. It could not possibly be more easier of a thing to make. Only thing I would be-#-missing is just the artificial flavors of fruits and whatnot that they add which. just adding myself would be 100 times better.#So. Puttting it on my to-cook list. Porrjdge. yes ues dont worry I know i know. I will follow a recipe site-#-that ends in .uk or is clearly made my british people so i know im following an actual british recipe or.#A recipie of whateever that they eat at least.#What do I tag this. I guess i just tag rhis with Axlerod and Finn. I mean I technically have OTHER british F/Os-#-but. they are the influence for my fixatjon on even going there and making all the foods and. so this is really trypically-#-particularaly centered around them whenever I say “british F/Os”.#self ship#selfship#selfshipping#self shipping#finn🩶💙#axlerod💚💙

i'm honestly so fed up of people acting like/thinking that being neurodivergent just means being either autistic or adhd
#i think it's important both for more stigmatised neurological conditions but also for more common things like dyslexia. they count!!#and ugh there was this one article i read once where someone talked about asking an autistic person for ''permission'' to describe#themselves as neurodivergent which just. what?! if you're neurodivergent it's your label to use and you don't need to ask someone#who's neurodivergent in a different way whether you can use it! that's like a british person asking a german person for permission to#describe themselves as european!#and then there are certain people who you just KNOW are using ''neurodivergent'' as some kind of replacement word for ''autistic''#even when it makes no sense to do so in the context. because they see ''autistic'' as some Bad Word

oh boy its my favorite day where nonusamericans condescendingly explain to me that the election effects other countries too and therefore i need to be even more terrified than however terrified i already am
#like. yeah. i know it effects yall too. however as a person Living In The Country In Question i feel like assuming we have no idea that#the results of this election could be bad is uhhhhh a bad assumption to make#as a Certified Transgender™ i already bave enough anxiety abt this on my plate#like. take a minute to think abt ur audience here. do yall rlly think the people on tumblr dot com arent already scared of what will happen#if trump wins. do you for real think you need to be adding extra anxiety into the mix. do you actually think we are unaware of the stakes#or do you think maybe. perhaps. possibly. we already know. and just havent been talking about it because We Already Know#idk i just get fucking exhausted coming on here to be greeted by ppl going umm you stupid americans have no idea how important this is#no actually /you/ have no idea how important this is because you Dont Fucking Live Here#we're fucking aware that this will have knock on effects across the world. right now im more concerned about the Direct Effects#origibberish#idk. ive just been getting the impression lately that a lot of yall see yourselves as inherently smarter irt us politics than the average#us citizen / that us citizens are by default Stupid And Uneducated. and it starts to grate after a bit.#We Fucking Know. we're strapped to the trolley tracks right beside you. like. the idea that we're the ones steering the trolley is#propaganda.#it's like when europeans get all haughty abt 'lmaooo imagine not having free healthcare' like. bbgirl you are not punching up.

#roguish archetype.txt#i'm gonna fuckng cry what do you mean you think it's fine and normal to not know the odyssey and make it about american ed#it's THE hero's journey classic!! not even classic lit it's literally CLASSICAL#it makes more sense for non euro centric countries to maybe not focus on it of course#but if you're like. western european. lol. lmao even.

sorry but edgeworth would not wear earings. that is not the same character
#like its not just the earings its more the total feminisatiom of this character specifically that this fandom keeps doing#which is completely at odds with canon and clearly the only reason they do it is to turn him into a stereotype#i know earings arent necessarily feminine but in this case its more all the general stereotyping whether as gay or fenimine or both#like he isnt even stereotypically gay in canon#a lot of it comes from americans tbh nutty stereotypes about what a 'gay person' is#ie old fashioned clothes tea posh bright colours etc#and the whole 'europe' thing. not only is it not canon (it was america and he barely lived there) but its americans weird stereotypes again#sorry americans but drinking tea. something billions of people in the world do. does not make you 'gay' OR 'european'#anyway if you go to germany its basically all bloody herb/fruit tea. barely any of the 'tea' actually has any tea in it#which isnt actually relevent#but my point is that this weird fandom characterisation is completely made up small minded stereotypes whovh is actually really annoying#the clothes and stuff are also not gay stereotypes in the context of the game btw. look at all the other characters#and its literally a running joke that women keep flirting with him. you can reasonably assume they think hes straight#anyway i hate that small minded reductive stereotyping thing fandom does#ace attorney#miles edgeworth#逆転裁判
