theres discourse about the polite way to tell a trans person you relate to their experiences or gender presntation/expression -- the discourse is that, if you dont word your statement carefully, then you are actually revealing a deepseated bigotry; your clumsy attempt at gender solidarity is proof that you dont even see trans people as their genders, and how dare you.

i dont really understand this and ive tried wrapping my head around it. i guess its a stolen valor thing? but ive never felt strongly about stolen valor, i dont give a fuck about valor.

like to me --- if im being honest, i wouldnt be offended if a trans woman told me "i wish i had your gender". i would be flattered!

of course, i COULD respond to that with, "well actually my gender is man, so youre saying you want to be a man :) either that or you dont think im a man, which is it". theres a type of semantic formal logic to that -- 'she says she wants my gender but shed never say that to a cis man', sure okay i get it abstractly.

but that seems, i dont know, fucking cruel and pedantic?

yknow what, hell, even if a cis guy told me "i wish i had your gender" i would be completely sympathetic to that. i would take it to mean that he feels like his masculinity/gender is conditional; hes relating to my trans experience for SOME reason, his gender identity wasnt crafted specifically to hurt me

Are you personally worried about your interest in Limbus dropping once Hong Lu's canto is complete, since he's your blorbo? Or are you still interested in seeing what Ryoshu, Meursault, Outis and Faust's Cantos will do, as well as everything after that point?

Every single Sinner that has had their Canto already continues to have things revealed about them and their characters elaborated upon despite the fact that they're no longer in focus. Even when it comes to those whose Cantos came after launch! Yi Sang's resolve to change is still being tested as more of the members of the former League of Nine are introduced. Ishmael is shown to have not actually changed that much and thus still have a way to go despite letting go of her one obsession. Heathcliff had notable focus as recently as This Intervallo. Just because a character goes through their Canto doesn't mean that they stop existing and developing!

Also, even if for some reason Hong Lu just stopped contributing to the story at all after his Canto, there'd still be things for me to dissect via new Identities and E.G.O. that will keep on getting released for as long as the game continues to be live.

And. Hell. Just because I am most focused on Hong Lu for extremely personal reasons doesn't mean I'm not intrigued by what's happening with the other Sinners! Ryoshu is among some of my fave characters, Faust has been steadily growing on me as time went on, and Outis is one of the main culprits behind my Voice Acting hyperfixation because of how nuanced Kim Bo-na's performance of her is!

That's not even to mention, you know, the world and the plot and the mysteries and everything else Limbus has to offer.

I've held out with Limbus for this long already, I don't think this brain mold is leaving me any time soon.

The Issue of Consent and Severance Discourse as a Whole

Spoilers for S2E4

So, I never post on Tumblr (and barely on other platforms for that matter). I am a lurker, and, as such, I see a variety of different takes about different things on a daily basis. I am prone to hyperfixations in media as a whole and, right now, I am obsessed with Severance.

So, I watched the new episode as soon as it was out and as soon as I watched the Mark/Helena sex scene and the reveal that it was in fact Helena all along, I knew it would create a discourse that would be unbearable, not because of the discussion itself but by the way people engage with this show (more on that later),  and I feel the need to express my feelings and my view on the subject.

Was SA or Wasn’t?

It… I don’t know. No one does. That’s the point. 

The show wants us to ponder about the autonomy of the innies and the outies, it raises this question not only in relation to the narrative of the show but in a sort of philosophical conundrum. And I think the way to discuss this has to be done with two things in mind: (a) with respect for other opinions and interpretations and (b) that we will never get a clearcut answer.

We can’t affirm Helena is a rapist, we can’t affirm she isn’t. What we can do is debate about it. Engaging with it with logic, as in, thinking that there is a logical explanation for something that is emotional in nature is counter productive. Let me demonstrate:

If Helena and Helly are different people then it’s SA. Then innie Mark didn’t cheat on Gemma and Irving saying that to him was wrong.

But, if Helena and Helly are the same person, it isn’t SA. So Mark cheated on Gemma and Irving was justified in what he said.

Do any of these sentences feel true to the show? 

Frankly, I don’t think so, because it doesn’t feel true to the emotional truth of the show. Because it is weird that Mark slept with someone else, but it is because this version of him doesn’t really know Gemma. But he also has a connection with Ms. Casey, because of the outie life. He also has a connection with Helena, because he knows Helly, but it’s weird because Helena is different from Helly. It’s a bit hypocritical of Irving to imply that Mark and Helly’s relationship is wrong when he was ready to blow up Burt’s marriage in the season 1 finale, but he is also right to point out it’s off putting to see them flirting. It is all these things at the same time. 

Because, from my point of view, they are different people and the same person at the same time. And I don’t think any of us can wrap our minds around this concept, it’s like Schrödinger’s Cat but about human nature instead of quantum physics. That’s what makes it fun, because not even the characters know what to make of it, so we see the emotional fallout of Severance rather than the ethical/moral one. And, to me, that is more interesting.

So we should discuss it, but also know that we’ll never reach a conclusion, because that would be oversimplifying the show and I think it just makes our conversation around Severance shallow. It’s a detriment to the show and to us. 

Let’s hear each other out, give different opinions, have productive debates about the show and what is saying about identity and humanity, about how it reflects on us. Don’t say to someone that has a different opinion than you that they are “watching the show wrong”, that they are “media illiterate”, like your interpretation is the only right one. If you do that, I’m sorry, but I don’t think you are actually engaging with the text, I think you are using Severance as a way to feel smarter than other people.

Let’s not treat our fellow internet users as the outies treat the innies. It’s easy to dehumanize people that we only perceive by their words on a screen, but behind each MDR profile picture is a real person with their own perspective that may not always align with yours and that’s okay, they are worthy of the same amount of respect as everyone else.

So I’ll say, at last, you are free to disagree with me. You are free to say that there is a definitive answer, that it was SA or wasn’t SA, that the innies and outies are the same person or they aren’t. I actually want to hear your take, I just ask that, when you type it, be respectful and understand that I have the right to disagree with you just as you have the right to disagree with me.

-with his newfound lover and heroic activities Peter definitely has his hands full, luckily this seemingly life is all he’s ever wanted and he couldn’t be more grateful

-walks you to class everyday and it doesn’t matter if his class is across campus he’s still doing so with a grin on his face; holding hands all the time, cuddling after school, tutors you for the price of one kiss per right answer, writes you cute notes during class

-there are some moments where he wishes he didn’t have to hide his Spider-Man identity from you, feeling like keeping such a big secret from you early in the relationship is starting off on the wrong foot, though he eventually does due to a canon event

-after revealing his identity to you he feels lighter, definitely no more secrets after this; he checks on you all the time as Spider-Man even before he tells you it’s him, he worries that one day someone will target you because of who he is

one thing I've seen you play with in your writing both in moon knight and in the star wars roleswap canon crossover is characters being brutally honest to/about different parts of themselves as a way of externalizing the kind of self-critical double standard that usually only exists inside a person's head. it's a really fun and juicy concept to chew on :) the coffee machine bit in twilight on owl creek bridge also scratches this itch, it's delicious to see characters forced to be vulnerable about their most deeply held beliefs when pushed to the breaking point and you write that kind of climax in a very satisfying way <3

I love this ask. No joke, the roleswap/canon crossover exists because I kept on reading fanfics where Obi-Wan meets his younger self and he's, like, nice to him. No. Obi-Wan has a devoted fan club of haters but nobody in the galaxy is a greater Obi-Wan hater than Obi-Wan. And I swear that the only person Obi-Wan would hate more than Obi-Wan is Obi-Wan aged 13. Who do YOU hate more? Yourself? Or yourself, from when you were thirteen?????

I agree that it's really satisfying when characters are completely peeled open, but it does have to be carefully done. You have to wait for as long as possible before you get there. Every time you think that it's time for the character to come clean and say what they mean, it is not. You have to escalate and push up the tension and continuously have this denial cause more and more problems. I love the identity porn trope, but you HAVE to keep the charade going for as long as you physically could. If something is fixed, it has to break something else. If a question is answered, it has to raise five more questions. This is what makes the final reveal satisfying.

The coffee pot moment is unsettling and eerie because it doesn't do that - the worst truths are being openly said with no prompting in the break room, the buried and unsaid is being said, and Fox is being forced to hear it. Fox has reached his cracking point, and everything that's gone unsaid is rushing out. Because Leia is there, and she's not the type to let anything go unsaid - except, of course, for the biggest thing at that moment that she couldn't admit. It was Leia who pushed Fox to his breaking point, and it was Fox who brought Leia towards acceptance. Thanks for reading!

Before I reply there's something I must clarify: I never said the deal was about transmigration, tho? I just said deal.

I didn't put the word transmigration anywhere, and I specifically talked about reincarnation only the whole time in my first post.

Not sure where you got the transmigration bit about, but this just serves to point out how we all interpret things differently!

You're correct in the fact it hasn't been outright stated that LSH was offered a deal at the time of his death. After all, we solely got CJS' pov through CH.

However, just because we didn't get a word-for-word retell of it, doesn't mean it didn't happen.

It can be truth or not until proven otherwise, simply because in this novel a lot of things happen off-screen or are not revealed before time, but nothing happens without a reason.

Examples of this: the apocalypse on Earth 1, KRS' abilities, ogCale's character inconsistency in general (and boy don't we all know how long it took us to know the truth 🫠), Choi Jung Gun and his multiple identities and so on.

What makes me inclined to believe LSH did get a deal offer is the following trail:

CJS & LSH both made deals in the afterlife. This is canon and confirmed.

If i remember correctly, it is around 423-426 when Cale meets LSH in his dream and gives him embrace. LSH confirms that both CJS and himself made a deal to pass on an ability.

Of course, later on we get to know this deal was LSH's way of earn merit and earn his memories in his reincarnation.

But, to me, it's the fact he got the chance what matters.

LSH's words to Cale during their meeting.

'There are times when gods make mistakes.'

'I didn't die in your place. I died while running wild. Got it?'

In my interpretation of things:

There are times when gods make mistakes = Death fucked up.

I didn't die in your place = dont blame yourself for it.

Which complements with what we saw during CJS' memories about not being CJS time to die yet.

So it can be inferred that maybe, MAYBE, LSH got a similar speech.

I reiterate this is just my interpretation of things and I am no know-it-all, nor do I claim my knowledge is absolute or irrefutable because that's just not true.

Also. You actually brought up my next point yourself!

None of the old Team 1 members (who died in the same day as them) sans CJS & LSH got the chance to make any kind of deal. Not to pass an ability. Nada.

Given all that is why I have interpreted the novel the way I have. I can be wrong ofc, the novel will show me in due time.

Now, as to why I assume GoD fucked LSH over. It is because of the following track record:

GoD made a deal with both CJS and LSH so they would each transfer one of their bilities to a person of their chosing.

LSH confirms that GoD deliberately didn't tell CJS that Choi Han would see his memories and his death in order to earn said ability.

In CH's POV we see GoD admitting to CJS that he didn't even ask his ancestors for consent before transporting them to Nameless 1

The contents of CJS' deal were laughable. GoD essentially just said 'oh boy it's not your time yet, i usually don't ask for permission, but yadda yadda would you wanna live in another world?'

The state of said world shone by its absence during GoD's description.

Following that behavioral pattern we got KRS!Cale own consentless transmigration.

GoD essentially scammed CH out of a good chunk of his lifespan for no reason.

It is true CH did make a deal himself. However, the reason why I label it as a scam is because... doesn't that deal become pointless after Part 2?

CH made that deal to enter the SG's test. Which was taking place in a different world.

And what does everyone in Part 2 do? World hopping.

Sure. Cale and his group do have limitations and constraints when traveling worlds, but no one got robbed the way CH did to make that happen.

You'd think at least the Elves who have long lifespan would have to adhere to similar conditions, but nope!

I know CH is happy and all about his deal cos now his lifespan matches Raon's but ??? GoD ??? what do you have to say for yourself???

So,,, yeah. All that, along with other details that I'm certainly forgetting rn, is why my faith in GoD is at rock bottom and I'm unable to believe he's not fucking LSH over.

Yet again, this is all just my interpretation and opinion based on of all the above tho. Opinion is subjected to change as soon as confirmed information comes out in the novel.

If anything, I want the deets from the author to revisit this at some point and see what did I get right

When I think the God of Death can't get worse I remember that bro offered Lee Soo Hyuk a deal, got turned down, and then he decided to fuck up Lee Soo Hyuk in the afterlife for absolute no reason.

Cos GoD can (and has) gone out of his way to make stuff happen before, but for some reason he got a very stick-to-the-book, migration-agent-like attitude when it came to LSH's reincarnation.

I guess GoD couldn't really do anything when it comes to Choi Jung Soo cos wanderer privilege™ but the change in treatment is very sus.

And before anyone tells me "nah, that's reaching a bit---" let's remember this guy has a track record of kicking people from their homeworlds without consent (CJG, CH, Cale) so I don't put it past him to do it out of sheer pettiness.

No but seriously, it's so weird how he's willing to bend rules for other ppl but he's an asshole to LSH. I really need a reason for that cos ??? I don't believe in that 'sticking to the rules' bullshit

The whole thing this is about is how GoD went from 'yadda yadda make a deal with me pls' to 'yeah you're a reincarnator but there's bureaucracy™, so have your own version of the herculean tasks and let's talk about it later' with LSH and LSH only.

And the whole reason I'm bringing it up is because, unless GoD planned to fuck him over like that from the get-go, his attitude is very ???

Didn't LSH help defeat the WS anyways? Or we're just gonna ignore the fact LSH essentially gave Cale a spatial pocket dimension of his own, which allowed Cale kill WS at his own pace 🤷🏻‍♀️

Welcome to the Restraint! (Restaurant)

Imagine Danny runs to Gotham and starts squatting in an abandoned old building in Crime Alley. Slowly putting some ecto into the place to claim it as his haunt (while recovering from the sudden loss of his old one). And he does the normal stuff to survive. Finds some odd jobs, often as a messenger, and is just surviving. Another thing he does is make his own food. It’s cheaper than takeout and he’s gotten pretty good at cooking (out of necessity instead of eating sentient hotdogs). Then he ends up accidentally taking in some street kids. Or more like they follow him home. He can’t just turn them away so he makes a meal for them and lets them stay the night then sends them on their way. And then it happens again. And again. And ok, so maybe he saved a girl from getting molested. And that older guy from getting his only good blanket stolen. And sure, maybe letting that poor pizza delivery guy rant was unnecessary but he looked like he was having a bad day ok? Pretty sure that kid with the scar is a meta too but…he needed a place to stay a few nights alright? It’s not like any of them stay permanently. Danny’s started picking up a few more odd jobs to pay for all the extra food he’s had to buy. Always keeping his place stocked. At least he doesn’t have to pay for water and a fridge, he just makes some ice (or melts it). Sure the water is cold, but it’s probbaly the cleanest water in Gotham. And then some of the people start paying. Like…actually paying in exchange for food. Not sure if it’s because of guilt or pity but Danny won’t look a gift horse in the mouth. And with all the money, he hasn’t had to take as many dangerous jobs. Soon, his little abandoned apartment became what’s essentially the closest thing to a legitimate restaurant in Crime Alley.

It didn’t look normal. The chairs and tables were more like old couches and stools pulled up to coffee tables and cabinets turned on their side. Although with the bulling becoming more like Danny’s haunt, the walls naturally started repairing themselves so at least it didn’t look like it was gonna collapse anymore. And ok…so Danny might have rescued a few feral kids who…weirdly have gold eyes. And possibly stopped a meta trafficking ring on accident. And look, these people didn’t have anywhere to go! And the apartment did have empty rooms. It was already known as a place someone could crash for the night (last winter the entire place was cramped with people. Danny had to break up multiple fights but they usually calmed down when he got there.)

One benefit from controlling a haunt is controlling the temperature inside so it was one of the only buildings with ‘heat’. But back to his…strays. So yeah…most didn’t seem like they could rejoin society…so he let them stay. And…they kind of became employees? Impromptu bodyguards? (Some of the golden eyed people almost felt like he was rangling feral ghosts again.) they came in all ages. A few kids, lots of teens, and a few adults. Same with the metas he rescued. They mostly helped deliver food to costumers. They even got a phone line working and could take orders. (Although the new…employees…also got more protective whenever a fight broke out.) With all the extra money he’s been getting he was even able to afford some medical supplies. A lot of his customers(?) came in injured and he tried his best to patch them up but now he could do more than tie some ripped clothing around the wound and use ice to numb it. He’s got bandages. And pain killers. Plus other medical stuff. He can even give someone stickers now! All that experience as an injured vigilante was paying off. Even Villains and goons start attending this place. The place was unofficially designated as one of the Alley’s ‘safe zones’ where no fighting takes place inside (the body guards make sure of it.) the metas and Talons are getting an identity for themselves, the street kids even get a job and a hideout, random people can go there for help or to pass messages, this place provides food, shelter, and medical care. No one wants it going down.

So yeah, welcome to the restaurant!

(I’m debating whether I want this to be the weirdest restaurant/safe place/truce area in the alley, or whether I want Danny to accidentally become a crime lord. Possibly both.)

Also, this place is called the Restraint because I keep misspelling Restaurant and I think Danny would do the same so the name stuck. (Or one of the kids spelled it when making a sign or passing around messages to spread the word of this safe place.)

So anyways, to add some angst, after Danny adopts a bunch of crime alley kids/villains they find out about Danny’s powers and that he’s a ghost, only they don’t know about Halfas so they think Danny is fully dead and this super kind guy who has been the only person to ever treat them like people…died. He died likely a long time ago and there’s nothing any of them can do to change that.

(And if the GIW dare to come into the alley, they better be prepared for the entire place to turn on them.)

Drake's family secret

A/N: Another story idea I had and I probably will keep working on. I kinda want to continue on it I just have no idea how or with what yet.

Tim had a secret. Well, he had many secrets but this was one he had kept closed off for a very long time now. It was one of the reasons he fabricated a fake uncle to avoid getting adopted. After all, if you were put into the system how could you possibly get found or find your last living blood relative? His family didn't know and he never intended for them to know anyway. It was a secret well-kept of the Drake family, one that even the public didn't know about. His parents hadn't thrown around money to keep anyone involved silent for nothing after all.

But Tim had had vague memories as well as found the last remaining documents years ago. The problem had been that he hadn't been Robin yet at that time and couldn't do research like he can now. Tim had often wondered if one of the reasons he had followed Batman around back then was to see if he could help him with that matter too, yet he had never brought it up to Bruce nor any of his other siblings.

In a way it made Tim feel guilty now as he looked over that old piece of paper. The only hint he had until now.

He looked over the security video of Wayne Enterprise again. Watching that group of high schoolers that was there on a school trip visit. His eyes tracked one specific student among them. If things were different Tim would joke about how the boy looked like perfect Bruce adoption material. But as it was, Tim was not going to make that joke.

Because as much as the boy fell into the stereotype of Bruce's adoption problem, the boy had facial features that looked very much like one Jenet Drake. Tim could honestly see it, sure his memories were not the best in regards to his parents but he had kept at least some photos for references. But recognizing that threw in a whole other set of problems.

For one he would need to find a way to make sure the Drake Family secret doesn't get exposed to his family too soon. Second, he needed to find a way to approach the boy without looking suspicious. Third, he was on a time limit, according to what he found the school trip the boy was on lasted for a week. Once the boy was out of Gotham it would be even harder to find a passable excuse to approach him. Fourth, he would also need a blood sample. As much as the boy's looks alone could make Tim believe it, the rest of his family was paranoid and if he was completely homestead, he also would need it for his reassurance that he wasn't wrong. Which again he kind of doubted even with this little amount of evidence. The fifth problem in this was, how was he going to break it to the rest of his family.

Because the best kept Drake's Family secret, he was pretty sure he was the last remaining person in the know, was that Tim had a little brother. A brother that was born when he was around 3 or four years old. A little brother who had never gotten to grow up with him because Jack and Jenet Drake had used their constant traveling as cover so the public wouldn't know about him. They already had an heir with Tim, they didn't need a second child. So the moment his little brother had been born he was given up in a closed adoption. Never to be seen again and never to be connected to the Drake family.

Tim only knew about him because he had vague memories about his mother's pregnancy and also had later found the papers in his parents' office when he was around ten. He remembered how upset he had been at the discovery but also how he hadn't been able to do anything about it. Though it was back then that he had also decided that the moment he could he would do everything he could to find him. Things only started to change when he became Robin and then Red Robin. Now he had the resources and knowledge to find the little brother he had never gotten to grow up with.

But too much time had passed and his parents had been thorough when covering their tracks, which resulted in Tim having been unable to find that little brother of his. Having no name and no idea who adopted him, didn't help either. But Tim had had less to work with before, yet the search had given him massive troubles, to the point that he HAD contemplated getting the rest of his family in on it.

But now that wasn't necessary anymore, there was an actual chance again.

Thankfully he had come in late today, if he hadn't he wouldn't have seen the group of High School students on a school trip in the Lobby waiting for their tour guide. He wouldn't have seen the group of teens that lacked behind their fellow students a bit. But most importantly he wouldn't have seen that kid that looked like adoption bait for Bruce. That then by closer inspection had so many facial similarities to his mother that Tim had first thought he was hallucinating.

Now he was sitting in his office, watching the group of High Schoolers getting a tour through the building through the security cams while trying to come up with the perfect plan that didn't look too suspicious as he watched the boy who could be his blood-related little brother. Oh, Damian would throw a fit if he learned about having another brother, Tim mused for a moment as he noted down the boy's, Danny's, excitement about their aerospace department. He had already decided, if Danny was not living adequately he would pull all the strings he could to get his little brother home.

So far Tim had found out that the boy's name was Danny Fenton. He would dig into that later more. He would also make sure that if Danny was his little brother, he saw to it that he was getting treated right. He had noticed how his little brother appeared overly tired and there was a bandage hidden below his shirt plus through the security camera footage, he had also seen that there was a hint of scarring on his left arm.

For now, though he had sent a message to the tour guide to end the tour in his office, for something like a surprise introduction to Tim Drake-Wayne. He would continue to build up his plan of getting to know and confirm his little brother's status from there.

The Helena diaz of it all has me fascinated. I’ve said for a long while that Eddie’s real issues are his mommy issues and this episode just cemented for me that we’re gonna explore that and deal with it.

Because it’s Helena who forced Eddie to grow up to fast - because her husband wasn’t around much - so she pushed Eddie into de facto parent and husband role ls - selfishly filling her needs and ignoring the damage it was doing to her son (it is a form of abuse in my book).

Eddie then had the audacity to fall in love with and marry Shannon and get her pregnant. It’s why Helena was always so off with Shannon - she was punishing her. She is also punishing Eddie for all of this and his refusal to return to El Paso only cemented further her bitterness and resentment.

Now she does have Ramon back she doesn’t need Eddie any longer to fill that role so she is still punishing him and part of that is tied into her glee over now getting to parent Christopher - something she has always been intent on doing the doppelgänger just gave her the opportunity- as well as allowing her to further punish her son and his love of Shannon.

Her barbed comments about building a pool were all about showing what she can provide Christopher - how she is parenting him better than Eddie - it’s part of her mind games - making Eddie feel like more of a failure as a parent to his son.

The reality of course is that the reverse is true - Helena’s parenting is all superficial, flash and showy - it isn’t the hard day to day parenting when things get tough and you have to be the bad guy. While Eddie has made mistakes, there is nothing superficial, flash, or showy about his parenting. It’s why bucks comments about Eddie being a great dad are so important.

Eddie feel like a failure right now and that he is entirely to blame for everything. But in reality, while he does bear a bit of the responsibility, the truth of the matter is that he needs to learn and deal with the fact that all of it actually stems from Helena and her abuse of her young son - Shannon never stood a chance just like Eddie never has.

Love the idea that Leo’s portal and teleportation based fighting style can heavily parallel the types of stuff you’d see in magic acts. Disappearing and reappearing, pulling stuff out of a hat/portal, sleight of hand and other such methods of averting the audience’s/enemies’ attention from what you’re trying to do, etc.

It’s genuinely pretty neat to see and I wish his love of magic acts and magicians was brought up more often because it and his other interests tie into each other and in turn his whole self so neatly.
