Wei Wuxian + When Lan Wangji is not looking at him

Note
What are your favorite examples of deep unbridled yearning in a bl? I think my is I told the sunset about you the way they used the coconut smell to showcase one the leads feelings for the other was so unique and sensual. He starts out hating coconut and how it smells but slowly as he falls in love he becomes obsessed with it since it's the other MLs unique scent and he uses it on everything, so we get a scene of him inhaling a paper written by the MLs coconut pen and then another one just devouring a coconut like it's the best thing in earth. I don't think I have ever seen such a depiction of attraction/love/lust that's so different but also visceral and beautiful and it really stuck with me. It's very different but it's one of the rare romance things that I'll never forget akin to the hand flex from pride and prejudice.
So you want to talk about yearning.
*Lan Wangji has entered the chat*
Tumblr media
There’s a lot of good yearning in the romance genre, and plenty of bls feature it. The example you gave from ITSAY is definitely one of the standouts in terms of how visceral it felt. I will never forget Teh shoving his whole face into that coconut, or all the super charged scenes where he and Oh-aew stare at and touch each other and keep testing boundaries until they break.
There are definitely other expressions of yearning that stick out for me for one reason or another, and not all in this same tone.
The Untamed
Tumblr media
Let’s get this out of the way upfront, because no one can step to this man on yearning. He adopted a whole child and named him after his yearning for his lost love. What I love about the presentation of Lan Wangji's particular flavor of yearning is how steady and matter of fact it is. He is always yearning for Wei Wuxian and it's just a part of who he is, whether his love is alive or dead. And while I love that Teh is such a big mess of emotions, I also like this more understated flavor of yearning where nothing is ever said out loud but Lan Wangji's feelings are clear in how he chooses to live his life. He's the poster boy for "actions speak louder than words."
Eternal Yesterday
Tumblr media
I'm not sure if you've seen this one, but it's one of the most poignant and devastating depictions of yearning I have ever seen. Mitsuru yearned for Koichi so hard that he kept his body alive for precious extra days and his memory alive forever. Brb gonna go cry.
Utsukushii Kare 2
Tumblr media
This is probably one of the more unique expressions of the emotion (on brand for this series), since this sequel season has Kiyoi yearning for the man who is already his boyfriend to love him for real instead of idolizing and holding him from a distance. It's one of my favorite explorations of how lonely we can feel even while in a relationship.
I Cannot Reach You
Tumblr media
This show wins for best visual effects to convey yearning, with a beautiful bokeh effect taking over the screen in moments when the characters were extra in their feelings over each other.
Unknown
Tumblr media
Wei Yuan's yearning was more of the desperate and hopeless variety, especially in his teens years when he knew his feelings for his adoptive older brother were impossible. I liked that his feelings were expressed via caretaking; he didn't think he could have the relationship he really wanted with Wei Qian, so he made it his mission to take care of him and help shoulder his burdens instead.
I Feel You Linger in the Air
Tumblr media
This story stands out in my memory for its dedication to anticipatory yearning. That is, knowing a separation is coming against your will and yearning desperately for the person who is still in front of you. Yai and Jom did not want to let each other go despite knowing they could not stay together, and that yearning was so strong it ultimately connected them through time.
Theory of Love
Tumblr media
And on the comedic end of the spectrum, I absolutely cannot end this list without giving a shoutout to one of the funniest manifestations of yearning that has ever graced my screen. Every time his feelings for Khai got overwhelming, Third ran to the bathroom for a Sadness Shower, and if the water wasn't working he was happy to improvise (and now I am cackling).

MXTX Interview with Risa Wataya for Subaru Magazine P.4
Risa Wataya: So that's how it is. This is fascinating. Through the forehead band, I feel that I can understand the relationship between Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian. Furthermore, what does Ms. Moxiang think of the allure of each character?
Mo Xiang: Because the novel is told from Wei Wuxian's point of view, it's easy to understand why Wei Wuxian has such irresistible allure. From a holistic point of view, he's incredibly "vivacious." I especially like the part where they were in Xuanyu Cave (The Massacre Turtle Cave in some English translations). Wei Wuxian kept teasing and poking. While they were in there alone together, he kept provoking Lan Wangji. Amazingly he managed to provoke Lan Wangji into biting him? Wa! My readers grit their teeth and said: "There's no need to be so charming ok! Please feel free to turn around and scram!" But before they even knew it, they had been enticed by him (Wei Wuxian).
In other aspects, Lan Wangji is Wei Wuxian's opposite. He's an elegant, refined gong who's far removed from the petty squabbles of mere mortals. But he acts so cute (*) whenever he's provoked and harassed by Wei Wuxian. I left many hints about him in the book. These hints require careful reading and interpretations from the readers. But such complexity and contradictions are what make the book enticing and exciting to read.
(*: ke ai 可爱: easy to love, cute. This description is typically used for children, small, cute animals, teenagers, very young women. It's not typically used for adult men in China)
For example, outwardly Lan Wangji has always maintained a cold, silent appearance, but in truth, since his teenage years, he was already enraptured by Wei Wuxian. I think that deep in his heart, he is filled with yearning for the kind of freedom that Wei Wuxian inhabits so easily. Furthermore, these two people are deeply similar at the core of their personality. At the core of who they are, they are the same kind of person. This is also one big reason why they come to love each other so deeply.
To be continued... (It’s long. Very long...)

Fic Finder
~*~
1. Hi! Can you help me look for this fic (cause its been months since the last time I read it) wherein WWX is LWJ’s husband and he is teaching in gusu wearing gusulan robes? I remember students likes wwx that one sect leader went to Cloud Recesses to insult wwx for seducing his son.
Btw, the fic includes photos of WWX wearing gusulan (white robes) (I think they got the image where Xiao Zhan was Shi Ying)
~*~
2. Hi! Can you help me find these 2 fics. Thank you very much
A) Twitter thread fic wherein nyancheng went to book signing of his fav author zewujun.  I remember after the book signing, lxc reach out his hand for handshake and when they shakehands, bolts were felt and they went into heat/rut. Apparently they are soulmates. Nyancheng was embarrassed because his ears and tails pop out due to heat. (I actually forgot lxc animal trait)
B) Modern Au where in wwx is in the airport with police and ambulance because apparently wwx plane went missing for 13 years (???). The people in the plane (including wwx) thought that they have been in the plane for few hours but outside the plane, its been years. Wwx didn’t even aged up while his family (including lwj) aged up
2B)
看客散去唯你我不忘 | the world forgets but i still remember you by prettyxianxian (T, 11k, wangxian, modern, manifest au, flashbacks, multiple POV, angst w happy ending, hurt/comfort, everyone lives au, insecurities, JC & WWX reconciliation, good parent YZY & JFM)
~*~
3. Hey! I hope you guys are doing great and resting in the midst of everything in life and updating this blog as well. Unfortunately, I fear I'm here to add to your burdens 😅
So I was looking for this fic. I remember it being set in the Canon era where Wei Wuxian is just extremely intelligent, and he goes on this  whole tirade about how he came to the conclusion concerning the waterborne abyss witht the use of talismanic theory in the library while Lan Wangji makes the charcoal for him to write and at the end Wangji is just so fascinated by Wuxian while the latter is like, "sorry for unloading that whole thing on you" kind of vibe.
I can't seem to remember what the name is. I was looking for it in my history, and it's just so difficult when it's just that kne scene you remember. Do you suppose you could help my misery. Thank you in advance. @poetic-writes
FOUND? 🧡 Stunted, Starving Juvenility by TomatenMark (E, 663k, WangXian, WIP, Fix-it of sorts, Talisman master WWX, Not JFM Friendly, Study Arc, Getting together, Fluff and Angst, Engagement)
~*~
4. Hi! I'm looking for a fic where wwx is a musician in university living in this huge dorm. He sometimes hears beautiful piano music (lwj) coming from somewhere in the building but he doesn't know where. They start to play music together and don't know each other's identities. They don't find out each other's identities until graduation or something. @its0nnetflix
FOUND? sounds like through a window softly by impossibletruths (T, 14k, wangxian, modern, college/university au, music au, neigbors, graduate school, music as a love language) on AO3 except that LWJ is a violin player
~*~
5. okay, i once started reding a wangxian fic that was based on another fic called "the simplest way forward" and it was like this, wangxian were roommates and someone dropped Yuan off at their door and that's all i remember because i didn't finish it and now i can't find it, help me please and thank you <3 @akutamichan
FOUND? so take my hand (take my whole life too) by cicer (E, 92k, WangXian, Modern AU, Accidental Baby Acquisition, oh my god they were roommates, Idiots in Love, Mutual Pining, Implied/Referenced Drug Addiction, Implied/Referenced Child Abuse, this fic is not about trauma, it’s about the yearning, slowburn)
~*~
6. hi! i was looking for an E rated sbwy gym fic where wwx thinks of him and lwj as really good gymbros. one point theyre at a smoothie(?) place where wwx says hes glad they started seeing each other (as friends) but lwj interprets it as romantic. jc had said wwx was feminine when theyre were 14 or smth and so wwx has a mild complex abt it. i rmbr wwx has an old flip phone and nhs makes a joke how wwx is rich enough to buy a new smartphone instead, also when lwj sends photos it takes forever to load in. i think lwj did soundtracks for movies too? and wwx mentions watching those movies for him. sry thats all i rmbr! i believe its possibly deleted, and if so does anyone have it downloaded?
#6 has been privated I think 😓
~*~
7. For the next fic finder I was wondering if you could help me find two specific Hogwarts AUs?
- Moved to a YiZhan FF/ITMF post
The second one is really vague and I’m sorry for that but I remember a WangXian fic where Wei Wuxian is part Veela and maybe he’s a Slytherin or Hufflepuff? I can’t seem to remember anything else besides there being a focus on Wei Wuxian’s volatile nature and battle prowess due to his Veela blood. He may have also killed a guy, or at least severely harmed some guy in self defense. I loved their world building and I’m so upset that I’ve lost both of them. Thank you for the help in advance.

8. Hey! Been following for a while and enjoying all the finders and recs from this page!
I have a request though, I'm trying to look for this fiction where wei ying is a general (i think) and lan zhan is a dragon, and there's a war between all sect, with the lans, the nie, and wen on one side, against the jin and jiang on the other. There's also animal shifters among the gentry where I think the jiang might be water birds?? I can't quite remember. The jiang and Jin end up defeated and the others win. Wei ying.is also a genius tactician and is respected by the other side of the war. I can't remember the name of the fiction and I'm desperate to find it. I think it's a completed fic too
Many thanks if you find it! (And could you tag me so I definitely see the post this request shows up if its found?? I forget things easily) @elderredraccoon
FOUND! Crossing Paths by Ilona22 (M, 21k, wangxian, shapeshifter au, graphic depictions of violence, war between sects, war crimes, not JC friendly, happy ending)

9. Hi! I'm looking for a WangXian fic where WWX and LWJ go back in time but WWX goes back a very long time before his birth. He holes up in the Burial Mounds and becomes notorious as the YLLZ. He's also pretty depressed I think? When WWX realizes that LWJ is born he storms into the Cloud Recesses and demands LWJ's hand in marriage -- LWJ is only 12 (I think) at this point and LQR and LXC are horrified but LWJ agrees without their input (he still has his original memories). WWX starts out just treating LWJ like a child he's very fond of but when LWJ gets older and becomes an adult, they resume a sexual relationship and I think WWX comments on how they're slowly shifting their dynamics from Kind Mentor WWX/Young Mentee LWJ to Bratty Bubbly WWX/Calm Dominant LWJ. I remember really liking this fic but I don't remember what any of its tags were or whether it was a single fic or a series of one shots etc etc. I would appreciate the help! @sssrha
FOUND? An Unusual Betrothal by ahealthydoseof (G, 74k, wangxian, time travel, age difference, immortality, BAMF WWX, younger LWJ, older WWX, misunderstandings, fluff & crack, worried parents, rabbits, food, non-sexual intimacy, murder, fix-it of sorts, developing relationship, humor, arranged marriage, jealousy, friendship, family feels, dysfunctional family, fatherhood, angst, hurt/comfort, mentor WWX, natural disasters, sworn brotherhood, serious injuries, kissing)

10. Looking for a fic, please help! the wens had won the war years ago. I only remember a scene where lan wangji and the juniors were in a shop or restaurant of some sort and wen xu comes in and intimidates lan wangji to where the juniors defend him. He thanks them later saying it’s hard for him to deal with wen xu. (he had lan wangji in captivity during the war, lan wangji still has Nightmares about it). I don’t remember where wei ying is or if he “died”. Thanks!!!!

11. Hello! I'm looking for 2 fics that I have wanted to rec on ITMFs so many times but just can't find! Both are canon divergent, not modern au.
A) it is a sort of eldritch wwx. He was eaten by a demon that like. Consumed his memories and wanted to be wwx? And then he gets back to sunshot, vomits up wen chaos teeth, has sex with lan zhan and also eats cows whole? Its a good one!
B) this one I remember just one scene. It is post sun shot, a confrontation at the jin banquet with yllz wwx. Yu Ziyuan is alive and checks his core in public and realizes he is coreless (i really think its her! But maybe someone else...). This might have been schemed by wen qing? Fix it after this point i think. @absurdlyadmiredarmchair
11A)

not found Yearning for Miles by Murahi (M, 378k, WangXian, LQR/SiSi, Canon Divergence, Angst, Fluff, Slow burn, Mutual Pining, seeing the future) There is a scene like this quite far into the fic. It's chapter 64 to be precise 😊
~*~
12. anyone know of a fic where wwx falls into the wen treasure room after sunshot, it's the only thing i remember about it
I don't know what the fic for #12, but I think I've read it before and Wen Qing & Wen Ning show a group of people onto the Wen throne room through a back door, and WN had to open it as it could only be opened by a male Wen. There was a big Wen family tree on the wall of this secret entrance.

13. Hi
Firstly, I want to say thank you, this blog is awesome, and I have found so many good Fics to read as well as find ones that I have lost or forgot to bookmark.
Secondly, I would like help to find a fic, from what I remember Wei Ying was drunk on the rooftop when someone approached. In his drunken state, he thinks it was Lan Wangji that showed up so he goes on saying things like are you here to punish me again. He also asks why Lan Wangji hates him so much, but the whole entire time it was actually Lan Xichen he was talking to. I think it takes place after he got punished for drinking in Cloud Recess, and then something happens and he almost falls off the roof but Lan Xichen catches him. Lan Wangji had apparently witnessed the whole thing and tried to apologize but Lan Xichen coldly tells him the apology should be given to Wei Ying instead when he wakes up.
Again, thank you so much in advance.

14. Hi 👋,  for the next fic finder - im trying to find a fic i saw awhile back. I cant remember too clearly but i think lwj got separated from the lan clan when he was young and found himself in a brothel. I remember when he was young - he only had to clean etc but as he was growing,  his good looks started getting noticed. I think he also asked someone to curse him so he looks hideous or something.
Please help me find this 🙏.  Thank you so much 🌸

15. hi! i’m looking for a fic that’s gone missing! it’s a modern au, where lan zhan and wei ying are strangers that are matched by a hotel and are going to spend wei ying’s heat together. it’s supposed to be a hotel where u can safely share a heat without the threat of pregnancy but they throw that out the window and just spend it together. oh! it’s a smut fix lol. but yeah that’s about it. hopefully u can find it, i randomly thought ab and could not find it anywhere :’)

16. Strange one again, I'm looking for a fic that mentions the situation at Lotus Pier is made harder by the fact that JFM has his servants, YZY has hers, but because they're so separate, nobody knows whether his servants outrank hers or whose orders take precdence, and how WWX gets tangled in it. Pretty sure it's a Lan commenting on the disharmony, but not 100%.
FOUND? Alliance AU by Ilona22 (E, 17k, wangxian, ABO, arranged marriage, intersex omegas, canon Jiang family dynamics, not JC friendly, matchmaking, night hunts) is 'Lotus Pier' Ilona22 is the third fic in their Alliance AU. Lan Wangji's Prank by shiroakuma (E, 23k, wangxian, time travel fix-it, everyone lives au, pining, golden core reveal, YLLZ WWX, first kiss, first time, love confessions, wangxian get happy ending) hi!! so, for the last fic finder, #17 might be "Lan Wangji's Prank" by shiroakuma? i say might bc lwj asks to court wwx, not marry, but this is the only fic that came to mind when i read the request <33

18. So I’m looking for a specific fic that I know is on ao3, can’t remember the name of the story nor the author though.
And that’s after looking through my history on ao3 for over an hour.
All I really remember from it was that it was short, like one to ten chapters long.
(And yes I do consider 10 chapters short)
It took place in cloud recess study arc, jiang Cheng punched or got into a physical fight with Jin Zixuan, in the classroom if I remember correctly.
Wei wuxian was injured. Somehow, story could be after the waterborne abyss.
Oh and the Jiangs asking WWX why he didn’t defend Yanli. Despite the fact he’s injured on the floor. @ravenwithwings

Someone has asked me to recommend some fics, I don't think this is what they meant, but here is a list of my favorite fanfiction I have read over the years
Harry Potter
Text Talk
merlywhirls
Summary:
Sirius is in boarding school, Remus is in hospital, and they don't know each other until Sirius texts the wrong number.
My thoughts: I don't know if there is a wolfstar shipper who hasn't read this story, but it is amazing. A majority of the story is told through text messages, which is a real creative choice and I absolutely believed the author pulled it off!
I Know Not, and I Cannot Know; Yet I Live and I Love
billowsandsmoke
Summary:
Severus Snape has his emotions in check. He knows that he experiences anger and self-loathing and a bitter yearning, and that he rarely deviates from that spectrum… Until the first-year Luna Lovegood arrives to his class wearing a wreath of baby’s breath. Over the next six years, an odd friendship grows between the two, and Snape is not sure how he feels about any of it.
My thoughts: A fanfiction that explores the relationship between a student and a teacher that doesn't make it romantic??? Hallelujah, never thought I would see the day. Not gonna lie, this is my favorite fanfiction of all time. While I like Snape in the original story, he doesn't develop as a character, like, at all. Which is why I can see why people don't like him, but this story gives him some development, and his relationship with Luna is absolutely heartwarming. And to those fans who think Harry got over his abuse of Snape too fast, I recommend this to you. Not sure you know, but Snape fucking dies in the book (spoilers, I know), and the author makes sure to give Harry some development too. Bring tissues, because you're gonna cry.
The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation
we'll get him falling for a stranger (or a catfish)
sweetlolixo
Summary:
Lan Wangji: Yingying? Lan Wangji: Are you busy with class? Lan Wangji: Won’t disturb you if that’s the case. Lan Wangji: (´• ω •`) Wei Ying wants to cry. What jock uses kaomojis? Ever? Or, Wei Ying is hired by a client to catfish Lan Wangji online, as a hot girl, for revenge. Except, Lan Wangji is not the playboy jock he expected...
My thoughts: This is a pure fluffy and hilarious story. If you like it when characters face consequences for their actions, then probably skip this because people do a whole lotta shit and completely get away with it (except Su She, but fuck Su She)
how to fall in love with a catfish: a guide by wei wuxian (disaster rat)
bwyn, Yuisaki
Summary:
A new plan hatches in Wei Wuxian’s head. If this nocturnal, bottom-feeding, slimy, invasive mudcat posing as a beautiful actor thinks he can sway Wei Wuxian with animal pictures and a sob story and an unbelievably stilted way of texting with still no dick pictures in the first five minutes of conversation, he has another thing coming. Wei Wuxian’s got it, alright, he has this in the fucking bag. Wei Wuxian plots to expose a catfish using strategic memes and turtle pictures while wiggling his way out of family dinner. Lan Wangji just wants companions.
My thoughts: Another catfishing story?!?! Except not really because Wei Wuxian has issues. Not gonna lie, I've only read this once, but god damn, did it destroy me. I don't reread it because I don't like it, but because I'm afraid of feeling all those emotions again. You know how I said the last story has no consequences, well this one has all of them. Watch Wei Wuxian as he slowly destroys his life, before finally putting himself back together and allowing himself to accept love. Another story you will need tissues for.
A Corpse Called By Name
jaemyun
Summary:
A continuation of zombie drabble! She loses her brother in a hoard of the undead. She finds a corpse wearing his face in a convenience store. The corpse calls her name.
My thoughts: I hate zombie movies, but I am absolutely fine with zombie fics. The story starts like how all good Wei Wuxian stories start: with him fucking dying. Watch a dead man build a family and slowing piece himself back together (metaphorically, he isn't falling apart due to decay)
Scum Villain Self Saving System
Bros before... well everything I guess
Icannotthinkofapenname
Summary:
Shen Yuan tried not to think of his original family too often, his parents, his brothers, and sister… Nope. Done with that train of thought. He’s Shen Qingqiu now. This was a new life, and he has a new family to look after. Sometimes a family consists of 12 martial sibilings and a whole lot of disciples. Just a buncha fluff of Shen Qingqiu, Shang Qinghua, their martial sibilings and the kids. Shenanigans ensue.
My thoughts: Another purely fluffy fic, though I have to mention something I really like about it. You see, I have a bit of a pet peeve when canon divergence fanfiction basically follow all of the important plot points from the original story. This story does that, but it doesn't do the scenes in full and only really mentions that it happened, and I think it's great. I don't need to read about Sha Hualing's demon invasion for the 50th time, let's move on and get to the things that matter! Like Shang Qinghua in wedding robes. Also there's a lot of platonic cumplane, which I could never get enough of.
Recovery
Moonsheen
Summary:
Luo Binghe returns to Cang Qiong Mountain with a grievously injured Shen Qingqiu. The trouble is, it's the wrong Shen Qingqiu. AKA The original Shen Qingqiu gets a happy ending, whether he likes it or not.
My thoughts: There aren't many fanfictions I have found that depict Shen Jiu in all his cruel glory. People usually sand him down, like, 'oh, he didn't actually give Luo Binghe his cultivation notebook, that was Ming Fan', or, 'he was more neglectful than monstrous'. I don't mind these interpretations of Shen Jiu, but I feel like stories are more rewarding when you try to heal the man at his scummiest. Recovery is a multi part serious that slowly shows Shen Jiu recover (see what I did there??) from what Bingge has done to him, while also finally finding happiness with Yue Qingyuan.
We Are Not Wise
Boomchick, Suzoomie
Summary:
When Shen Qingqiu drew Shen Yuan’s soul sword, it felt like being burned from the inside out. The fire wasn’t cruel, but it was still fire—hot and destructive, searing the softest pieces of him.   When Binghe’s fingers touch the hilt, he is ready for pain. Transmigrated into a version of Proud Immortal Demon Way where cultivators manifest their own souls into spiritual weapons, Shen Yuan finds himself sort of kind of…accidentally blackmailing Shen Qingqiu into taking him on as a disciple before Luo Binghe joins the sect. That should give Shen Yuan plenty of opportunities to make sure nothing goes wrong for his favorite protagonist, right? RIGHT!? A story of twists, turns, hope, despair, and soul swords. Written for the Bingqiu Reverse Minibang 2023, illustrated and conceptualized by the incredible Suzu!
My thoughts: The last fic has Shen Jiu healing arc, this one has his father arc. Another story you need tissues for, and for multiple chapters, my god is it hard to read and cry at the same time. Another really good premise that was knocked out of the park by the authors.
pride is not the word I'm looking for
Tossawary
Summary:
Shang Qinghua goes to take a self-indulgent peek at his baby protagonist son and gets a kick to the shrivelled heart for his troubles. He gave up on changing the story years ago! Yet he finds himself helping his protagonist son's adoptive mother anyway. Just this one change won't matter too much, right? One little change leads to more. Shang Qinghua never meant to care, but he becomes invested in making sure that his new family survives the looming plot. With the changes to the world cascading around him, with his position as a traitor pulling him between his sect and a certain ice demon, and with the protagonist growing up so quickly, how is one displaced author meant to ensure that everything turns out all right? A Pre-Canon to Canon Divergence story.
My thoughts: I'm gonna be honest, this is the only story on here that I have not finished. I struggle with reading fics that are 400k words long (and by struggle I mean I don't finish them), but this is a story I come back to and reread (and attempt to finish), mostly for one arc. There is a part of the story where Shang Qinghua help look for Luo Jiahui's (Luo Binghe's mom) missing sister, and it is without a doubt the best arc I have ever read in fanfiction. If you are like me and don't like long fanfiction, I still recommend reading this story at least up to that arc, you wont regret it. I also have to say this is my favorite interpretation of Luo Binghe's mom.
Servant to a Different King
Tossawary
Summary:
As the head disciple of An Ding Peak, Shang Qinghua threw the plot out the window and abandoned his sect, and now he enjoys a luxurious life as Tianlang-Jun and Su Xiyan's most treasured and trusted advisor, as the happy couple rules over the Demon Realm together with iron fists. He has everything a transmigrator could want. Unfortunately, there's only so long that the Imperial Advisor can continue to avoid another of Tianlang-Jun's favorite underlings: Mobei-Jun, the new Northern King. An attempt on Shang Qinghua's life inside the Underground Palace itself forces him back into the company of the demon who was once destined to kill his character - and who also once promised to kill him if they ever met again.
My thoughts: Another Tossawary story! This time Shang Qinghua saves Luo Binghe's mom (wait didn't that happen in the last one?) and dad (ok, so it's different). A Moshang focus story where Shang Qinghua tries to avoid having an awkward (and possibly deadly) conversation with Mobei-Jun, which becomes an impossible task because he is now his personal guard. I love the cocenpt of having Shang Qinghua work under Tianlang-Jun, and the interactions between those two are always hilarious.
YuGiOh
An Apocalypse Means Nothing Because You Are The World In Which I Live
sitabethel
Summary:
When an old tomb-keeper steals the Millennium Tome in order to raise the dead, the gods are forced to send Atem back to the world of the living to end the crisis; however, Bakura doesn't trust him to save Marik, so the thief finds his own way back. Meanwhile, the goddess Isis makes a deal with a certain dark entity, offering him a soul in exchange for his services.
My thoughts: Ok, it's been many years since I have last read this story, but I still have to add it to my recommendations because of how batshit insane it is. This is a zombie apocalypses story taking place in yugioh, the story where everything is solved by card games. Do you know how they stop the zombie outbreak? CARD GAMES! Like holy shit, this story is crazy, but it's also on brand. I used to be into thiefshipping and other yugioh ships, so if you're like that then I definitely recommend this one.
Annnddd those are my recommendations. Feel free to judge my taste, but I will unapologetically love these stories till the day I die.

So, I had this idea and obsession about ghost brides and marrying ghosts to let them rest in peace and I had to write something on it. It spiraled out of control, but here is the prolog.
Merrying a memory
It had taken three years. Three years of sorrow, yearning and grief. Three years of healing and pouring his pain and longing into his instrument. But he was now allowed to leave seclusion. Lan Wangji tilted his head softly in the direction of his son, who was greeting him with a bow.
„Hanguang-Jun, Lan Yuan said awkwardly. „Laoshi and Zewu-jun requested your presence in the Orchid Hall.“
„Mn“, the young adult acknowledged dismissing his son with a soft nod. He was a little weary to be up since sunrise after half a night spent playing Inquiry. It did not matter, his elder and his sect leader had requested his presence and it was his duty to follow their orders, as soft and polite as they may have been.
He had changed clothes again. He still felt uncomfortable in the light blue shades his sect usually wore aside from a mourning period. But he still was mourning. He probably would never stop mourning his beloved. Not even his body had been found and no burial had been held. The soul never reacted to the summonings of the different sects and it also never reacted to Lan Wangji playing Inquiry with all his heart and love.
„You have sent for me“, he greeted with a bow, ignoring the displeased set of his uncle's mouth and the worried once over from his brother.
„Wangji“, his brother started, indicating a place to sit down and the cup of tea, already filled with a mild brew. He followed the direction and settled down, waiting for the reason he had been summoned. „An emergency conference will be held shortly. I would like your counsel and your insight into the matter at hand. Do you feel able to accompany me to the conference?“
„Mn“, he agreed. Waiting for more information, he was disappointed in the lack thereof. Instead, he listened to his uncle and brother making arrangements for the departure of the three most prominent members of their sect. Whatever the emergency, it must be a threat as great or even greater than Wen Ruohan was, if even his uncle, happily retired from the responsibility of a sect leader, was willing to go to one of his strongly disliked conferences.
„Alright, that should be all. I will see you tomorrow at the gate Xichen. Wangji, please stay a while longer“, their uncle declared. He gave his brother a minimal nod, indicating that he was going to be alright before he was left alone with their uncle.
„What can this one do for you, Shufu?“ Lan Wangji felt his throat close and burn, unused to speaking at all after years of silence. He never was good at it anyway.
„I am worried about you, Wangji. You are still mourning after all this time“, his uncle answered. Lan Wangji kept his silence, he had nothing to say to this. His uncle sighed after a short while of silence. „The conference is because Wei Wuxians ghost attacked a couple of cultivators. No cultivation method to drag him out and bind him has succeeded as of now and it is all over the place.“
„His soul is still there?“, Lan Wangji asked, feeling feint. If the soul was still there, why could he not summon it?
„We are not sure what it is, but the usual way to deal with such restless and violent spirits did not work“, Lan Qiren rebuffed the hope of his nephew slightly. He was visibly displeased with the whole situation. „We were hoping that taking all accounts of sightings of it in one place, we could find a common factor. Maybe that could lead us to what and where exactly that ghost is.“
„I am unsure about my ability to help in this situation“, the younger confessed, letting his head fall forward, his hair following and gathering in his lap, draped in white.
„He never answered even slightly?“, the teacher asked, huffing his breath through his nose when the mourning man blinked in surprise, looking up. „I could hear you playing through the nights whenever I came to check on you. In this, you are even worse than your father ever was.“
Lan Wangji lowered his eyes again, hiding the sudden narrowing of them. He hated to be compared to his father. It was bad enough that he reminded himself of his father, cold and distant as he had been all the time. He desperately wished for the easy smile and warmth his brother had gotten from their mother, but instead, he had the same way to hold himself as their father had. Now he even wore the same mourning colors and probably would for the rest of his life. A Lan only ever loved once after all.
„Wangji.“ His uncle's voice was soft, reminding him of scoldings while being held after he fell because he ran. It reminded him of the way he had spoken to him when he had been eight and the door to the Jingshi didn’t open, even after days of kneeling in the cold white snow, softly explaining to him that she, his mother, was gone and would not be able to open the door. It closed his throat even more, but it also was comforting. „I understand. If you changed your mind… It would be alright and Xichen and I would accept it.“
„I will come with you. Maybe we are able to help him“
„I am sure he is beyond help at this point“, his uncle groused. „If you need anything, I will be there.“
„This one is grateful, Shufu. This one has an unusual request“, he said, bowing and taking the chance he had been offered. He needed to take this chance. For his son, if not for his own peace of mind. His uncle nodded, listening. „This one would like to adopt the orphan Lan Jingyi to be the brother of A-Yuan.“
„It is unusual“, his uncle conceded. „I will think about it during the conference. After that, I will decide. Do you feel ready to be a father to two growing minds?“
„I do not think anyone is ever ready to care for children in such a way“, Lan Wangji offered carefully. „I still think I could learn from both of them and they could learn from me. More than if I would become their teacher. It could be good for them and for me.“
„You are ready to become a parent“, his uncle replied, a warmth filling Lan Wangji. He recognized the tone of voice. His uncle always had it when he was proud of him or Xichen. Humbled to still be able to make his uncle proud, he lowered his head.
„Thank you, Shufu“, he said, breathing deeply to calm his welling emotions. „I will take my leave to prepare for the conference.“
The journey to the Koi Tower, where Jin Guashan has invited the sects for the Emergency Conference, has been uneventful. at least if you ignored the series of unfortunate experiences Clan Leader Su had to endure after his delegation joined the Lan’s on the journey. Lan Wangji was not sure, but he did notice a pattern of the unfortunate moments. Not harmful, more of an inconvenience and humiliating nature, but it would sting a brittle pride-filled man with the consistency of the incidents.
„I hope we can get a whisp of him. This vermin needs to get snuffed out. No one should suffer the humiliation he puts his victims through. Don’t you think so?“, Su Minshan asked Lan Wangji after the third time he stumbled over his own robes.
„I do not see anything amiss. Clan Leader Su should consider shorter robes, if he constantly trips over his own hems“, the Lan answered monotone. He caught the shocked gazes of his brother and uncle, saw the suppressed laughter shaking his brother's shoulders faintly and even his uncle had to suppress a smile. He was sure he would be scolded for his words once they were alone, but the traitor to their sect was aggravating his nerves and overstaying his welcome.
The Lan had to take a few steps sideways, again. The Su Clan Leader had breached his preferred distance again. Contemplating the gains and repercussions of a Qi outburst and then claiming he felt still a little unstable after his long seclusion and his Qi was a little volatile, he blinked. He did not have to use such an excuse and lie. Su Minshan had tripped over his robes again, the material ripping and tangling around his leg enough to bring him down fully, a sickening crunching sound echoing through the silent forest-surrounded path. The leg was broken from the fall.
„Lan Wangji! You can’t claim this to be the result of mere clumsiness and unfortunate chosen clothes!“, another disciple, who had left the Lan Sect and went with Su Minshan to found the Moling Su Clan, exclaimed.
„It may be unusual“, he conceded. „Clan Leader Su should not overwork the leg, it could impede the healing.“
„The nerve of this arrogant…“, the disciple hissed under his breath, cut off by his own yelping as a raven flying overhead left his droppings on his head. Lan Wangji had to bite the inside of his lip to rein in any reaction, amused by the antics of this ghost. He had found a pattern and he was sure it would be the same with the other incidences. This ghost was not malicious, it was protective. It should be liberated if possible, not destroyed. When were the foundations for dealing with ghosts been lost?
He contemplated this for the rest of the journey, blessedly without any more unfortunate incidences and with peace. It lasted until they came to the Koy Tower, where a great number of the cultivators were bedraggled and weary, jumping with the clumsy noises their comrades made in their exhaustion.
„If you would follow me“, the wife of the sect leader, remarkably unfaced with the chaos and well-rested, asked them, tutting at the five-year-old at her side. Lan Wangji recognized the pudgy face of the young kid. it had been a long time since he saw it last time, but the eyes, staring at him with such curiosity, had an uncanny resemblance to Wei Ying, despite there being no blood relations. Wei Ying would be happy to see his nephew well and cared for.
He settled down in his room, taking a deep breath. The journey had been a lot to handle, especially with the constant breach of his comfort zone. And the tumult around him as soon as he entered Koi Tower had been even more of a challange. He never liked the attention and the crowded places, preferring the serene solitude of the Library or his Jingshi, but three years with almost no human contact had made it more challenging to go through with it now.
He was interrupted by a soft knock and opened the door with a soundless sigh. He was surprised by the shy servant bowing with a tablet in her hands, silently offering it to him. Furrowing his brows slightly he accepted, thanking her. She nodded and scurried away, leaving him alone in his confusion. It only cleared after seeing a note in baldy and rushed calligraphy.
The ghost haunting this place demanded a mild offering of dishes be brought to you, Hanguan-Jun. We hope to not overstep our boundaries, but we can’t have it throw the spices uncontrolled into the food. Not after last time.
A soft warmth spread through Lan Wangji, pulling his lips into the faintest smile. it felt new and awkward, but he did not fight it. It was not smiling foolishly as the elders would say, at least he hoped he did not look foolish. And even if he would, he had learned to accept his emotions and work with them during his seclusion. Doing anything else would have caused more disruption in his cultivation than his punishment with the discipline whip already caused. And he could have qi-deviated as a result. Chances of surviving that in addition to his whipping were practically non-existent. He could not risk it with A-Yuan so young and already having lost his family two times.
The meal was perfect and it prevented him from having to go into the dining hall, giving him the time he needed to fully calm down and prepare for the coming day and the discussion of what to do with the ghost causing problems. Thankful for the meal and care given to him, he returned the dishes to the servants and complimented the lightness of the meals on his stomach. They promised to let the cook know and vanished, leaving him to his nightly routines. He itched to play his guqin, but he was not home and it would be rude to keep everyone awake with his playing.
„We need to trap the pest and eliminate it!“, Clan Leader Yao exclaimed heatedly. His hair was in disarray as every ornament for it had been lost during the night. And no one had a spare one to give.
„I agree, he has done enough damage to all of us!“, an elder of the Jin Sect voiced.
„First liberate; second, suppress; third eliminate“ Lan Wangji started to recite. „The initial approach is to utilize the gratitude of relatives and grant the dying wish, set free what he could not let go of. If it fails, suppress it. If the crimes were extremely wrongful, and its energy of resentment does not dissipate, exterminate it completely. The cultivation world should precisely keep to this order of measures. No errors should be allowed.“
„His crimes were extremely wrongful!“, Su Minshan hissed, his eyes narrowing.
„Wei Wuxian's crimes as a ghost“, Jiang Wanyin, silently scowling, his mood ever worsening until now, spoke up. „Wei Wuxian’s crimes as a ghost are to make the lives, of those he did not like, inconvenient at worst. The most he had done was causing Clan Leader Su to fall down hard enough to break his leg. An inconvenience for a cultivator of his claimed caliber.“
„He has no family left to give him gratitude“, Nie Mingjue pointed out. His brother beside him furrowed his brows waving his fans in thought.
„Lan Laoshi may correct me, but I gathered during my time studying under him that granting the dying wish and utilizing the gratitude of the relatives were usually done together to exhilarate the success of liberation. Liberation should therefore also work with granting the dying wish“, the heir of the Nie Sect spoke. „I could be wrong though, I don’t know. Really, why are you looking at me like that? I jut had silly thoughts, you should ignore me.“
„Huaisang!“, Lan Qiren interrupted the quiet and nervous babbling. „You are right. Granting the dying wish alone could work. Or we could give him family. It is unusual and normally not done, but marrying his soul after death to someone else to give him a family again can work and has worked in the past.“
„Good Luck!“, Jiang Wanyin barked, a smile, not unlike fletched teath, stretched over his face.
„Sect Leader Jiang“, Jin Guanshan asked mildly, having wached the discussion thoughtfully from his seat. „What do you mean?“
„With all due respect, his dying wish probably was for the safety of his loved ones and buried under that to find the kind of love his parents had. He wouldn’t have married for political reasons or property. He would only marry for love“, the Jiang Sect Leader replied, snorting when somebody pointed out the ghost maidens Wei Wuxian had and that they could marry him to them.
„That won’t work. For all the grand tales he spun, I know he never did any of the things and even less what rumor tells“, the brother of their current ghost problem declared. „He was a romantic fool and as far as I know, he never kissed anyone. You can’t just marry him off to somebody. It needs love at least from one side to have a modicum of success.“
„I will do it!“, Lan Wangji exclaimed, sure of himself. His voice carried, silencing the whispers.
„Lan Wangji, with respect, but I don’t think that would work. It’s not a secret that you loathed Wei Wuxian.“
„I never loathed him“, the Lan replied to the Jiang, meeting his eyes unwavering. „I love him. I would have asked for his hand eventually, if he would have been alright with it.“
„We can’t let a respected cultivator like the Second Jade of Lan throw his life and future prospects away to marry him off to a man. I’m sure there are other viable options“, a clan leader Lan Wangji did not recognize chimed up.
„This matter has now become a personal matter between the Jiang Sect and the Lan Sect“, Jiang Wanyin hissed, his spiritual weapon zizzling with agitated charges. „I would like to speak to the Lan sect about this matter alone, if possible.“
„Of course“, Jin Guanshan said minable, giving his heir Jin Guangyao a look. The younger Jin nodded, smiling pleasantly at them and motioned to them to follow.
„If you would follow me“, he requested, reassuring them they would be able to use the smaller room, an unused study, to their heart's content. „I will call for tea to be brought to you.“
„Lianfang-zun, this servant already prepared refreshments for the Lan and Jiang delegation“, a servant chimed in, holding a tablet with steaming fragrant tea.
„I will leave you to it. Please don’t hesitate to call for anything“, Jin Guangyao said, bowing a last time and leaving with the servant.
„Peculiar. I do not remember having this calming tea here before “, Lan Qiren observed. „It’s medicine.“
„There’s a lot more teapots and a jug of wine“, Jiang Wanyin pointed out, sorting out that they all had their favorite teas and the wine was for him. „This is overkill, even for the Jin’s.“
„Wei Ying“, Lan Wangji said, making everyone look at them. The Jiang nodded in understanding, sighing at the realization.
„Right“, he said, pulling them all on track of the reason they were now negotiating together, „Lan Wangji, you love my brother?“
„I do.“
„Right, this is news to me, but it explains some things“, the sect leader mumbled, carding his hand over his face. „Alright. Sect Leader Lan, are you agreeing to the marriage negotiations between Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian?“
„I am“, Lan Xichen replied, giving his brother a love-filled and supporting smile. Their Shufu also didn’t protest, sighing in resignment. Then the negotiations started in earnest, a rush of words with little context to it for Lan Wangji. He was overwhelmed by the prospect to actually marry Wei Ying, though it would only be in name.
„We need something to bind his soul to. Something of importance to him“, his uncle said, shooting Lan Wangji an unimpressed look when he looked up with narrowed eyes.
„Why bind his soul to an object?“, Jiang Wanyin asked carefully.
„So it is protected and can’t be messed with anymore. It would also prevent it from traversing too far from the object used“, Lan Xichen explained with an apologetic smile.
„Wei Wuxian is as free as the wind, something every Jiang carves to be. You can’t lock his soul away and hope it will endure until it vanishes. That would drive him insane and make him vicious!“, the Jiang hissed, Zidian sparking violently.
„It is also to protect his soul. Lan Wangji would be in possession of the chosen object at all times“, Lan Qiren intercepted, calming Jiang Wanyin and his nephew down at once.
„His red hairband. He loved it, as it was a heirloom and the last piece of his mother. It apparently was the only wedding red his mother ever possessed and given to him for safekeeping. It should be the object with the strongest connection to Wei Wuxian existing. If we can find it.“
„My son currently has it“, Lan Wangji replied. He met the sharp eyes of the Jinag Sect Leader, interrupting his agitation upon this revelation. „I adopted A-Yuan, the child Wei Ying was caring for as a mother would.“
„Alright. That settles it then. The contract is made, arrangements with the matchmaker for an auspicious date are made too, now the only thing necessary is for Lan Wangji to visit Lotus Pier and learn our culture to better understand his soon-to-be spouse.“
„Thank you“, Lan Wangji breathed, overwhelmed with the knowledge that he would marry his Wei Ying. It was only a matter of finding the right date to do that.

hehe someone stepped into my trap mwahaha
🪳 recommend a great AU!
falling til four in the morning by phnelt. MDZS, The Untamed, modern au, wangxian, T. 90s AU where lan zhan and wei ying meet through analog media. its been a while since i read it but i have a weakness for analog media, especially tapes, and these things really get to shine here.
widow‘s weeds by travelingneuritis. MDZS, The Untamed, modern cultivation, wangxian, wlw, comphet, E. very fun AU about wei wuxian being engaged to jin guangyao, and lan wangji, the landscape gardener wei wuxian hired for her wedding, suspecting that wei wuxian has been killing her former husbands (plural). jin guangyao has only a small role here but i liked how the author has written him and his incidental cahooting with wei wuxian!
but the wind keeps blowing by morwen. WOH pre-canon/canon divergence, wenzhou, amnesia, ghost valley, M. a man without a name wakes up in a place without a yesterday. on his travels to find out who he is, he picks up two interesting companions with their own agendas. a really cool stab at zhou zishu’s and wen kexing’s and gu xiang's pre-canon selves, and a look at how wen kexing‘s coup for the throne of ghost valley might have been like, now with zhou zishu thrown into the mix. i especially loved how the department of the unfaithful plays into this. this fic is written in german!
the remains of summer by nirenhuang. WOH modern AU, wenzhou, fluff, T. zhou zishu and wen kexing are students in the Berlin of 1920-30. this is a bilingual fic (german, english). due to the time this is set in, some of the places that show up here dont exist anymore, they were destroyed during the third reich or ww2. i loved how the author interweaves these aspects and creates this rich tapestry of culture, identity, language, queerness, and finding your crowd, in the years just before hitler comes into power. (politics have no impact, though.) this is a rewrite of a similar fic by the same author in mandarin, and there is a sequel! predominantly written in english with some german phrases!
🐞 recommend a favourite fic or several from one of your friends OR a fic author you really look up to!
how to be ravenous by caffeineaddict94. WOH modern au, Ride or Die AU, wenzhou, wlw, E. zhou zishu and wen kexing reunite after years of not speaking with each other. their complex relationship is unravelled over the course of wen kexing comitting murder for zhou zishu and their subsequent escape from the authorites. a story about want and yearning and these hidden things lodged deep inside that even if u dont acknowledge them, still have the power to ruin your life—or change it for the better.
one of the moments i cant stop thinking about:
Her fingers fit perfectly around Zishu‘s throat, right against her windpipe. Zishu studies Kexing‘s flushed face and vicious eyes with no reservations. Serenity washes over her like a deep ocean as her pulse beats rabbit quick beneath Kexing‘s fingertips. “You didn’t have to get my hopes up,” Kexing seethes, grip tightening just enough to make it difficult to swallow. “I was over all of it. I was over you but you had to pop up again, you selfish asshole!” “Kill me then.” That throws Kexing off balance.
written by my wonderful, talented friend!!!! read it!!!! if u want to feel, like, a little gutted!!! for fun!!! read it!!!
🦗 recommend any fic, wild card!
so pretty but your heart‘s got teeth by livinginaworldofnoise. WOH modern au, wenzhou, crack, G. zhou zishu‘s terrible and chaotic neighbour wen kexing devises a masterful plan to woe zhou zishu, much to zhou zishu‘s chagrin. that plan includes feral kittens and lots of atrocious ignorance of boundaries. nothing at all goes wrong (lie). i reread this one recently and it was great :D
bug me for fic recs!!!!!! seriously im begging u

20 questions for fic writers
Tagged by the lovelies @ettelene and @tilion-writes, many thanks! Sorry for the late response, been busy with real life commitments.
1. How many works do you have on Ao3? 10
2. What’s your total Ao3 word count? 38,319 words
3. What fandoms do you write for? Currently, Silmarillion and MDZS/The Untamed, though I haven't posted anything yet for the latter.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
Fëanor posts on r/amitheasshole
Capodopera
Family Dinner
Immortal Longings
uprooting
5. Do you respond to comments? Yes, always! And I ramble a lot.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Hm. I write quite a bit of angst, and I can think of at least three fics of mine with sad endings, but I think Cardinal takes the cake. It's a bleak end, miserable, made even more so by the relative tenderness of the main story.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Probably Fëanor posts on r/amitheasshole, because it's crack. Nobody dies; is that the low bar for a happy ending in the silm fandom?
8. Do you get hate on fics? So far none, but I expect to get some in the future as I want to write about darker themes. And I'm mentally preparing for posting in a new fandom that's known for its toxicity.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Yes, and I plan on writing more! I love shipfic, I love romance, this is the main genre I read in fanfic, so. If I had to classify my style of smut, I'd say it veers into porn with feelings territory. The main sentiment behind my writing, behind all my writing, smutty or not, is yearning. What intrigues me is what the characters are feeling, their thought process, building the tension and portraying their dynamic. I don't think I can write smut just for the sake of smut - and there are so many facets of the characters' personalities that can be explored through their kinks, their bedroom attitude, their emotions and insecurities. Also, I write slash, though I'd like to try my hand at femslash as well.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? No, but I've thought about it. The logistic aspect of it ruins the fun, unfortunately.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? No.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Not yet.
14. What’s your all time favorite ship? Not sure if they can be considered "all-time" favourites since I got into fandom less than a year ago, but the ships I'm completely obsessed with are Curufin/Finrod for the silm fandom and Jiang Cheng/Wei Wuxian for mdzs/cql.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? My Curufinrod in Valinor fic that I talked about on here. It's a long project and I'm used to writing one-shots, so I keep telling myself I'd work on it and post it once it's finished. Not sure when or if that will happen.
16. What are your writing strengths? Story concepts, comedic timing, eliciting emotions. Prose if I'm feeling confident.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? I am always obsessing over sentence structure, conveying tone, and word choice. English not being my native language doesn't help either. Technicalities aside, probably dialogue and longer story arcs.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? Ambivalent.
19. First fandom you wrote for? The Silmarillion! Best fandom.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written? The second chapter of Capodopera (which is composed of two mirroring one-shots). I think I managed to write precisely the story that I set out to; I'm pleased with everything about it, from the prose to the characterisation, to the escalation and the power shift, to the smut scene. And it doesn't hurt that it's the most self-indulgent thing I've written for my silm otp.
I'd like to tag two of my favourite writers @crackinthecup and @tobermoriansass, I'd be super curious to read your answers!

“Come to Lotus Pier,” the last letter had said. “It’s beautiful in the summer - you can’t beat the views! And the water, Lan Zhan! It's so nice! I'd love to show you around! What do you think?” Lan Wangji thought he wanted to come. Had wanted to for years…So this time, he said yes. He tucked the letter into his robes, kept it near his heart, and smiled internally all the way to Lotus Pier.
Lan Wangji had been in love with Wei Wuxian for years now. If he could think properly, he would have been able to name the exact number of days, minutes, hours, seconds...But as it were, he was too captivated by a shimmering drop of water kissing the base of Wei Wuxian's nipple to think properly.
What he could (vaguely, mind you) remember were the countless letters they had exchanged over the years. How they had slowly become more flirtatious in nature - or so he hoped. How this hadn't been the first time Wei Wuxian had asked him to come. Wei Wuxian had begged countless times for Lan Wangji to visit until he finally, excitedly, said yes this time.
How every time he saw Wei Wuxian in person at a conference or briefly during a night hunt, his heart would yearn for just a few more minutes. Just a few more seconds with that radiant smile - that effervescent laughter. He was always struck by how Wei Wuxian looked even more beautiful than the last time Lan Wangji had seen him. How he had slowly changed from a thin wiry boy into the broad-shouldered, muscular man splayed out on the bridge before him.
He had known Wei Wuxian had changed over the years - of course he had. It was hard not to notice - it would be akin to ignoring the sun's shine...and in the moments he found himself alone, surrounded by the comforting blanket of darkness...Lan Wangji had allowed himself to imagine. He imagined all the ways Wei Wuxian had changed. What he would look like now, beneath the many layers of fabric and robes. He allowed himself to think of taught muscle rippling under tan skin. Heated whispers and breathless exclamations as he indulged himself and gave into his desires.
Lan Wangji frequently found himself returning to a favorite scenario where this time, his brother had sent HIM to the cold spring, only to find Wei Wuxian nude within. This was not much different, only it had been JC who had set Lan Wangji upon Wei Wuxian...And Lan Wangji was at a loss as to what to do. He had never dreamed of a real situation wherein he would be looking at Wei Wuxian like this. He had perhaps hoped that one day, maybe...Especially given the flirtatious tone their correspondence had taken over the last year...But this...This was perhaps more than Lan Wangji knew how to handle.
Wei Wuxian released a long, slow breath and moved the hand not pillowed under his wet hair to rest limply across his abdomen. Lan Wangji found himself following the movement with rapt attention...and noticed something that made his hot ears burn bright red.
Wei Wuxian was hard.
Beneath the thin, white pants he wore, Wei Wuxian was hard, and Lan Wangji couldn't look away. Everything was telling him to look away. To turn around and come back later. Their tour through the Yunmeng market could wait. They could have lunch together another time. He needed to...To—
—Wei Wuxian's hand moved further down, his fingertips brushing over his navel, inching towards the band of his pants. Lan Wangji had restraint like no other. He was a disciple of the Gusu Lan. He could recite their rules as easily as he could breathe.
As Wei Wuxian's hand dipped past the band of soaked fabric clinging to his skin, Lan Wangji forgot how to do both.
As if drawn forward by an invisible string, he took a step forward. The ability to speak - to say something - ANYTHING - was completely lost to him. He was utterly captivated "Lan Zhaaan..." Lan Wangji's world began to spin as he found himself falling sideways into the pond below.
The water was shocking and clarifying. It helped shake him out of the trance that had overcome him. He shouldn't be here. Wei Wuxian didn't know that he had been sent here, despite making plans the day prior. He had clearly forgotten. Become distracted. He could have snuck away before, but now...There was no way Wei Wuxian hadn't heard him. There was no way he didn't know he was no longer alone. Lan Wangji hoped he could grow gills. Perhaps become a jiāorén and swim far away from here. In this small, enclosed, inescapable pond.
A pond Wei Wuxian had now jumped into, and was pulling him up by the shoulders in.
Lan Wangji unthinkingly glanced down Wei Wuxian's body and coughed. Wei Wuxian's pants now hung perilously low thanks to the water and his movement - it was only by the will of some greater being that he remained clothed. If one could callthis clothed.
His pants were nearly transparent now, and while they had hid very little before, they hid practically nothing now.
Curse him.
Curse him and his lack of restraint where Wei Wuxian was concerned. He would be plagued by this for years. Both in his nightmares and his fantasies.
"Lan Zhan...Lan Zhan! Are you alright? Aiyo...Did you swallow a lot of water? Here, come sit on the bridge! Catch your breath!"
Didn't Wei Wuxian know that this was impossible with the way he looked? He wanted to push Wei Wuxian down against the bridge and—
"—There, that's better now, hm?" Wei Wuxian smiled brightly, sitting beside him, taking hold of the arm closest to him and rubbing Lan Wangji’s back. The heat of Wei Wuxian's body radiated through Lan Wangji's robes and scorched his skin. "Mm," Lan Wangji agreed, unable to bring himself to meet Wei Wuxian's eye.
"Are you alright, Lan Zhan?"
"Mm," he repeated.
"Ah! Good...I was worried, you know.." Wei Wuxian continued, an air of something unknown - something dangerous coming over him. It prickled at the back of Lan Wangji's neck. "It's very unlike the great Hanguang Jun to fall into the water for no reason...Perhaps," Wei Wuxian mused, "he saw something distracting?"
Lan Wangji felt panic well up in his chest.
Mercy...Would Wei Wuxian show him no mercy? After all they had been through together during their night hunts? The many clan co—
"—Perhaps," Wei Wuxian continued unrelentingly, "he saw something he liked?"
He knew. Wei Wuxianknew …but of course he did. How could he not? There would be no redemption. There would be nothing he could do to—
—Wei Wuxian reached out and cupped his face, turning it towards his own, forcing Lan Wangji to meet his eye. "Perhaps, he even saw something I wanted him to see? And heard something I wanted him to hear?"
Lan Wangji's lips parted, his eyes widening in shock as he looked for a trace of insincerity, but there was nothing there. All Lan Wangji found was open earnest hope.
"Wei Ying..." Lan Wangji breathed, the name shaky as he dared to hope himself.
"Ah Lan Zhan...Lan Zhan I thought you knew...I thought I had been clear in our letters," Wei Ying smiled, somehow still hopeful. "I've been waiting for you to make a move for so long...And then, when you accepted my invitation, I thought that maybe you liked me how I like you..."
It was here that Lan Wangji's world became fuzzy. He only understood short, clipped phrases from Wei Wuxian's rambling. Phrases like "tried to get you to see me" and "in love with you" and "hopped you felt the same" and "want you to be mine" and "last thing I could think to do".
All Lan Wangji could understand was that it had been premeditated. All of it. Wei Wuxian had served himself up on a platter like a feast for Lan Wangji's taking -intentionally - and Lan Wangji was a starving man. Wei Wuxian was saying yes. Please. I want you. And Lan Wangji wasn't going to say no.
Lan Wangji hurled himself forward, catching Wei Wuxian's mouth as Lan Wangji pushed him back onto the bridge. Wei Wuxian's body tensed at first from the surprise, then began to melt as his leg came up to wrap around Lan Wangji's waist, holding him in place.
Wei Wuxian sighed into the kiss, his fingers weaving through Lan Wangji's wet hair, and pulled him closer like he wanted Lan Wangji to melt into his body. Like he wanted to take Lan Wangji inside. Lan Wangji moaned into the kiss at the thought, trailing his lips along Wei Wuxian's jaw as he began to harden.
"Lan Zhaaaan," Wei Wuxian moaned as Lan Wangji scraped his teeth along the skin behind his ear. "Lan Zhan, please...Be gentle with your poor, fragile Wei Ying!" Your. He was rather fond of the sound of that.
Wei Wuxian was his...and he wanted everyone to know that. He took great pleasure in marking up the soft column of Wei Wuxian's neck - sinking his teeth into the tender skin of his throat, just above the knot. He enjoyed soothing the aggrieved skin with his tongue, only to do it again...
...And he especially delighted in the sounds Wei Wuxian made as he went. The little whining keens for more. The breathy gasps when Lan Wangji mouthed at his nipples, pulling one between his lips and toying with the other with his fingers.
The babbling pleads for him to be gentle with him when Lan Wangji pinched them, despite Wei Wuxian's hips thrusting upwards, seeking out some sort of friction to soothe the ache in his cock. Before, this could have been enough. It would have been sufficient.
Now, he wanted more. He wanted all of Wei Wuxian. He wanted his cock.
Unwrapping Wei Wuxian from his wet pants was like unwrapping a gift. He already could see...but it was somehow different. The water had hid little...but the view was still obstructed all the same. Baring Wei Wuxian completely was...
Better than anything he could have dreamed.
Lan Wangji didn't indulge in his wants often, but he did this time - allowing himself to pause and savor the reality of this moment. The lovely visage of Wei Wuxian, red chested and wet and panting as his equally red and wet cock eagerly jumped and twitched for attention.
There was only one word that came to mind when looking at Wei Wuxian like this:
Beautiful.
He wanted to remember this for the rest of his life...and the sounds that escaped Wei Wuxian as he took him into his mouth - slowly at first, to adjust to his large girth, then faster. Harder.
He hollowed his cheeks, and circled the head of Wei Wuxian's cock. Worked him until Wei Wuxian was pulling tightly at his hair.
"Lan Zhan...Ah...Lan Zhan...Close..."
That wouldn't do.
He wanted Wei Wuxian to come inside him.
Lan Wangji pulled off Wei Wuxian, ignoring his desperate cry and searching hands. Wei Wuxian wasn't going to get his way. Lan Wangji tugged off his ribbon and quickly tied Wei Wuxians hands above his head, delighting in the way his bruised and red mouth puckered into an outraged "O" before relaxing as Lan Wangji stripped.
His movements were slow and methodological as he delighted in the attention Wei Wuxian gave him - his eyes glued to every movement Lan Wangji's fingers made. Words of nonsensical encouragement tumbled from Wei Wuxian's lips, as the first layer fell wetly to the bridge.
Then the next.
Then the next.
Until he was completely bare. He enjoyed standing before Wei Wuxian, nude, watching his eyes widen as Wei Wuxian looked up and down his body - visibly swallowing when his gaze landed on his cock.
Lan Wangji internally smirked, pleased that he had been judged and found highly desirable.
Lan Wangji reached into the qiankun pouch he removed from his robes and plucked a bottle of oil from within. Holding Wei Wuxian's eye, he poured it over his fingers and sank to his knees above Wei Wuxian, bracketing his hips.
Then, still holding Wei Wuxian's gaze, he reached behind himself and circled his puckered hole.
It was a feeling Lan Wangji was familiar with by now, but despite this familiarity, Wei Wuxian's eyes on him made it feel new. Exciting. Slowly, he sunk one finger within - Wei Wuxian's moan making him shiver in delight. Then a second finger.
By the time he had reached a third finger, he was panting - his knees trembling. He likely needed more but…he couldn't take it anymore. Reaching behind himself, he slicked Wei Wuxian's cock before sinking down onto him. The sound Wei Wuxian released was positively animalistic. Lan Wangji loved it.
He loved the feeling of Wei Wuxian filling him. Stretching him to the fullest - nearly to the point of breaking. And then. He began to move.
He lost track of time as he rode him, allowing the pleasure of Wei Wuxian - the man he loved more than anything else in this world - filling him to inch him closer and closer to completion.
Wei Wuxian moved with him as best he could - firmly planting his feet to the rough, wooden bridge. He thrust up in time with Lan Wangji's movements, angling himself so he slid against a sensitive place within and soon he could feel the telltale tightening within his balls.
"Wei Ying..." he moaned, leaning forward to gain better leverage as he road Wei Wuxian's cock. "Close?" Wei Wuxian blinked up at him through bleary eyes - confusion was written across his face as if he were trying to see through the hot pleasure coursing through his veins. Lan Wangji could understand.
He felt like he was burning alive. He felt like every place Wei Wuxian touched him was a live wire. Like the bound hand on his hip was scorching his overly sensitive flesh as Wei Wuxian's nails bit into his skin.
"Close?" Lan Wangji repeated, his words coming out in a hot puff of air as he panted above Wei Wuxian. It was becoming too hard to think. Focus. He was so...
"Yes," Wei Wuxian moaned.
"Then come for me," Lan Wangji demanded, and he watched in fascination as Wei Wuxian did.
He watched Wei Wuxian’s face twist in pleasure. The tendons in his neck strain as he threw his head back. His whole body tensed as his cum flooded up into Lan Wangji...And Lan Wangji allowed himself to tip over the edge at the sensation.
His world whited out, and his ears began to ring. He stopped breathing as his body tensed up as he painted Wei Wuxian's abdomen white with thick ropes of his cum - some landing where that enviable, shimmering water drop had been before.
When the waves of pleasure subsided, he cracked his eyes open - unsure when they had closed - and found his head cushioned on the warm skin of Wei Wuxian's firm pectoral. He tilted his head up and took in the pleased, blissed-out expression on his face.
Wei Wuxian's fingers found their way through Lan Wangji's hair despite the binding, and Lan Wangji allowed himself to be held there, basking in the warmth of Wei Wuxian's attention.
"You know, I'm glad that worked," Wei Wuxian said after a moment, interrupting the pleasant peace that had washed over them.
"Mm?" Lan Wangji pressed, tilting his head up so his chin dug into Wei Wuxian's chest.
"Yeah. I wasn't really sure. I mean I'd hoped. But I didn't think it would work that well..."
"Wei Ying..." Lan Wangji smiled tenderly, pressing a kiss to his skin where he could reach.
"Only a fool would have said no. I have been called many things before, but a fool has not been one of them."
"...What about husband?"
Lan Wangji pushed himself off Wei Wuxian and took in the bright red flush of his cheeks as he also sat up, fingers tightly woven together and wrists still bound in his ribbon.
"Y-you don't have to say yes...It wasn't even really a good proposa—"
"—Yes." Lans do not interrupt. He felt it prudent to break this rule, just this once.
Wei Wuxian blinked owlishly at him.
"...Yes?"
"Mm. We should dress and inform people of our engagement. How do you feel about a summer wedding?"
"It's summer now! You want to wait a whole year?"
"No. I wish to wed now."
"I...Wha...We can't get married now!" Wei Wuxian sputtered.
"I don't see why not - why put off till tomorrow that which can be done today?"
An amused smile broke out across Wei Wuxian's face as he pulled Lan Wangji closer. "You really want to do this?"
"Mm," he nodded, delighting in Wei Wuxian's tender kiss. "I love Wei Ying. I do not wish to wait to call him my husband."
"Lan Zhaaaaaan..." Wei Wuxian whined, curling up into Lan Wangji's neck. "You're going to kill me with all of this talk. I'll perish before we can even wed!"
"Then we better hurry, before my future husband passes," Lan Wangji decided, standing from the dock and throwing Wei Wuxian over his shoulder. Abandoning their clothes, Lan Wangji began quickly walking back from Wei Wuxian's private pond towards his rooms, delighting in Wei Wuxian's squeal.
Lan Wangji was very glad he had finally accepted Wei Wuxian's invitation to Lotus Pier.
He had been right.
The views were unbeatable.

From a like, "what if this relationship existed irl?" perspective, Wangxian and Hualian both have Concerning Elements.™ But, I mean, most of my fave ships do. Fiction is fiction, yada yada yada. However, for my tastes, Hualian's Concerning Elements are SO much more my jam (at least thus far, as of being halfway through the 6th official English volume.)
TW for mentions of Wangxian sex antics below the cut. (ie CNC at best, rape at worst.)
This is very subjective, but I think the problem I ended up having with Wangxian once I got to the sex was that while the book did a good job convincing me that Wei Wuxian is into everything Lan Wangji does to him, it didn't do a good job convincing me that Lan Wangji knows that for sure, or is in control of himself, or would stop if Wei Wuxian didn't like something. I can see the bits that could be interpreted differently and suggest that it is all clearly consensual, but it just...wasn't quite enough for me. I'd pretty thoroughly spoiled myself and I thought I'd just be kinda meh about the incense burner bits, but when I actually got to that first one I was just stuck like 😬😬 the whole time. I don't think I will ever be comfortable with blood in that context. Just...yikes. (And yes that's complicated by it being a dream and whatnot, but it did still give me the ick, alas.)
Hualian are so different because the bottom is literally the god the top worships. (Which, y'know, again; if that scenario were somehow translated to real life would be A Problem lmao.) I know there aren't any full-on sex scenes between them, but whatever shenanigans they're implied to get up to, I'm already coming at it from the perspective of trusting entirely that Hua Cheng would never even dream of hurting Xie Lian in any way unless it was 250% consensual. If Hua Cheng has darker fantasies, they're probably of Xie Lian using him...and then he beats himself up for 50 years just for daring to besmirch Xie Lian's goodness in his head like that or something.
And again, this is subjective. This isn't some anti rant where I suggest everyone else should dislike something just because I did. Though I did relate to him in some ways, I don't feel like I bonded as much with Lan Wangji as a character as I did with Wei Wuxian, Hua Cheng, and Xie Lian. Maybe I just don't understand what's going on in his head enough. But my personal comfort level is always gonna be: rough sex needs the top/dom to be very much in control and checking in with the bottom/sub regularly. And in the end, that wasn't how Wangxian felt to me. Which is kind of a bummer.
But Hualian are just...ARGH they're so much, and the obsessive worship and centuries of yearning are so unhealthy is such delightful ways.

Stolen Midnights - Chapter Thirteen Push And Pull
Rating Explicit
Summary
Between the thirteen years of Wei Wuxian’s death and resurrection, his soul can visit the living world for a single midnight a year. Within the liminal space of dreams, Wei Wuxian gifts Lan Wangji the chance to experience a youth he never indulged in. Slowly their relationship blossoms into something new, though Lan Wangji believes it is just a fantasy his mind concocted to ease his grief. Until the day Wei Wuxian is pulled back into the living world, all they have are moments stolen under the stars.
Chapter Extract
Clad in only his scarlet inner robe, Wei Ying lay propped up on his elbows across the vibrant summer grass. Lan Wangji's eyes scanned his body and followed pale legs until they vanished under the thin red fabric. Wei Ying had artfully draped the robe to hide his more intimate parts from Lan Wangji's view. His collar gaped wide enough to allow a snatch of chest to peek through. Lan Wangji's mouth went dry at the scene before him. All his sorrow lay forgotten when faced with the alluring pull of Wei Ying.
Lan Wangji tried to commit this moment to memory. Tonight wasn't about their inalterable tragic fate or an uncertain future. Tonight was about indulging in the youthful indiscretions they missed out on. An opportunity to be together without fear of war or death. Lan Wangji forever yearned for Wei Ying. While they existed in this shared dream, he'd claim and show Wei Ying the love they missed out on in the living world.

AO3 UNWRAPPED GAME: 3, 17, 29
Thanks for asking, honey! <333 3 - What work are you most proud of?
Good question. I rarely am proud of anything I write. I also might have forgotten about half the fics I wrote bc it amassed and I even forget my own WIPS if I don't write down every thought I have about them... so... eh... lemme check through my works? *hours later* Of the latest works about LITA, I think I like this one the most: A million faces I wrote it while hearing one of the songs that keeps breaking my heart over and over again, and I think the overall energy in the fic screams of the love I try to find.
17 - Your favorite character to write this year?
HAH! Tricky one this question. Before LITA turned my life upside down in the best possible way, it had been Wangxian (I like to write Wei Wuxian as well as Lan Wangji, depending on the mood) BUT NOW it is obv PrapaiSky. I might lean towards Sky a tad bit more?
29 - Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?
“Do I know you?” the man asks Sky, his eyes round, loud in their message of yearning bleeding out of them.  “No.” Yes. Sky answers, nothing more than a whisper swallowed in the loudness of the racetrack.
