I do like Raverne though, I think it's got a nice fancy sound to it! (I had kinda suspected it was going to be an R instead of an L, so the fact that it's SO close to Laverne except for that is hilarious to me personally.) and Dragoneye Duke is honestly probably the best translation for his title, I wasn't envying the localizers that one. :') Baur instead of Baul I was NOT expecting, but in retrospect I think his name's supposed to be a reference to the Bauru crocodile, so that actually makes way more sense!

someone else also said Meleanor has become Maleanor, which is the REALLY weird one to me, because I was so surprised it was written as Mel instead of Mal in the first place?! oh god no I can't decide which one I like better. 😭 (I wonder if they might change it to Mal...they have made romanization changes before) (like I remember House of Distraction being corrected to House of Destruction in Playful Land) (I did check and she's still Mel for now, but I dunno, they might Mal her up and some point and save me from having to make a decision about which one to use) (HECK I CAN'T DECIDE)

even though he only appears in 1 dunk and egg novella, daeron the drunken IS a genuinely interesting character to me. a lot of asoiaf is about exploring the more realistic outcomes of very traditional fantasy ideas (what if the vows the loyal knight swore required him to stand by while his king horribly abused people? what if the beloved prince eloping with a young lady caused a massive civil war? what if the warrior who overthrew the evil tyrant had absolutely no interest in the actual job of ruling?) and daeron is an exploration of what it would actually be like to have prophetic visions. would you find them fascinating and try to understand what they meant and what would happen in the future? or would they be frightening and overwhelming and not actually provide any guidance, only a horrible sense of dread that something is going to happen that you don't understand and can't prevent? would you embrace being able to know what was going to happen, or is it something you would try to forget at all costs if there's nothing you can do to change it?

Not to be too gushy and take silly gay aliens too seriously, but the fact that I get to type the phrase 'canon Garashir' is so powerful. Especially after decades of two very clearly queer characters being denied their personhood and forced to fit into a heteronormative mold that was so clearly ill fitting, all for the sake of the comfort of bigots. It's such a win and it is more gratifying than I can put to words. And the fact that they're allowed to be happy and comfortable and get to contribute in such meaningful ways withing their lives. It really does feel like every queer and neuro-divergent person who ever saw themselves in such rich and complex characters is now getting told "We really do see all of you. And you deserve a happy ending too."

thank you very much for sharing this with me! though i’m, of course, no expert on this my initial reaction to reading that is to agree with you- it isn’t perfect, but the level of self-reclection and accountability being taken by him there Is better than anything i could’ve hoped for. it’s a step in the right direction, i think, and i can only hope he continues showing this level or more of growth and education on what is happening in palestine and that his previous behavior and statements were Not acceptable. perhaps it’s the bare minimum or Veryyy close to it considering the harmful rhetoric he had been sharing, but some level of growth from that is still reassuring to witness.

I am tired of having people older than me be ashamed of speaking about the subject properly and yet still trying to give "the talk". It's so refreshing to have a blunt biology teacher that says and calls things by their most proper or "formal" name, the common name, and even the coloquial ones (such as "forro" for the condom).

And the worst part is that I see students older than me that use them as a toy and toss them into the sewers, but then turn red as a tomato when you ask them to explain something related to it. Or when they giggle about it and grow sheepish when you ask them to put it in a banana. It's ridiculous, oh my God.

Yeah, EXACTLY!!! That's the part that grinds my gears the most about this whole thing – how hypocritical the whole thing feels, whether it's even intentional or not. People know what they're talking about. They clearly have it in their head quite a bit. So why are they so afraid of, like... words? Just words?

Words have tremendous power; it can be power to hurt, but it can also be power to grow, know more, protect oneself, be more honest with one another, you name it. I'd much prefer it if people knew more words than less, even if it includes some they're "not supposed to know". That feels much better than the alternative. Heck, there's a reason why the dystopia in Orwell's 1984 involves diminishing the general population's vocabulary. Discouraging people from using their words does more harm than good, I'm convinced of it

tianwang and colours

teaser photos of this week's episodes were released and i couldn't stop staring at jiang tian and sheng wang's clothes.

@respectthepetty shared a brilliant post on the drama's colour theory, especially pertaining to the colours jiang tian and sheng wang are wearing or associated with. [thanks so much op for the insightful and beautifully written post ^^]

so, in this photo, jiang tian and sheng wang (maybe) are having a study date outside of school (and they look so domestic and cute and UGH). however, i do notice that jiang tian wears a darker shade of brown while sheng wang wears something lighter.

directly quoting from op's post, "One is light, and the other is dark. One is the sun, and one is the moon. One is warm, and one is cool."

we're so used to seeing jiang tian in dark-coloured clothes (black, grey, blue) while sheng wang always wears something light/bright (orange, white, red, yellow). i think it's such a nice detail to be added in this drama and also jiang tian and sheng wang's characters, considering the progress of their relationship.

i guess, it's showing us how sheng wang has brought light into jiang tian's life, and now he's no longer drenched in only darkness. he still wears darker colours than sheng wang, but it doesn't have that usual gloominess. i think sheng wang balances jiang tian's darkness, and it's just so beautiful to witness this in the upcoming episodes.

and don't get me started on the matching bracelets.....

if my eyesight isn't deceiving me, jiang tian is blue and sheng wang is yellow/brown? again, op uses the motif 'the sun and the moon' to represent jiang tian and sheng wang and i think it's the most accurate representation of their personality.

even though the sun and the moon don't collide, they still belong to the same sky.

i honestly can't wait to see the shift in their relationship. since the walls between them are no longer high, will they finally be united? will there be more than just this feeling of wanting to be closer? what will happen in episode 7 that leads to them wearing these matching bracelets?

so many questions are left unanswered. we just have to wait and see.
