More Dunk and Egg fanart, featuring Dunk, Egg, and Aerion Targaryen from The Hedge Knight! I went a little further with the stained-glass style this time, and I'm happy with how it turned out! Especially Aerion's cloak, which is supposed to be fully black if I remember right; I added in the fiery colours just to help it pop XD
Also, the dragons here aren't actually there - it's meant to symbolize the Targaryens fighting (over Dunk hahaa)! The designs are based on the descriptions of their dragon eggs; Aerion's is gold and silver, and veined with red, while Egg's is white and green, all swirly. And the tree in the back is meant to represent Dunk :'''D

even though he only appears in 1 dunk and egg novella, daeron the drunken IS a genuinely interesting character to me. a lot of asoiaf is about exploring the more realistic outcomes of very traditional fantasy ideas (what if the vows the loyal knight swore required him to stand by while his king horribly abused people? what if the beloved prince eloping with a young lady caused a massive civil war? what if the warrior who overthrew the evil tyrant had absolutely no interest in the actual job of ruling?) and daeron is an exploration of what it would actually be like to have prophetic visions. would you find them fascinating and try to understand what they meant and what would happen in the future? or would they be frightening and overwhelming and not actually provide any guidance, only a horrible sense of dread that something is going to happen that you don't understand and can't prevent? would you embrace being able to know what was going to happen, or is it something you would try to forget at all costs if there's nothing you can do to change it?

I heard that the casting of Baelor "Breakspear" was announced for the new Knight of The Seven Kingdoms/Dunk and Egg series and I just wanted to doodle my version of Breakspear, aka my pookie Oscar 💜

George R R Martin praising my lady Jane in his new blog (that has the actor who’s going to play Daeron the drunken in TKOTSK) is honestly really sweet

April 21st was the fifth anniversary of the last truly great scene of Game of Thrones. 😭 Thought I should commemorate the occasion with a portrait of Gwendoline Christie as Brienne of Tarth in that scene.

on my daeron the drunken thing rn and i think one of the most fascinating aspects of him compared to other prophetic characters in the world of westeros is that daeron is the one of the only prophets who sees his dreams and understands their meanings. notably melisandre is a seer but she misinterprets her visions constantly by being too concrete! daeron isn't like that at all - he dreams of a dead dragon with duncan at ashford and understands immediately that someone in his family will die at this tourney. there's a whole lot of dragon themed dreams for targaryens and them misinterpreting those dreams as ways to bring dragons back (which is likely to be the way aegon v dies at summerhall). daeron is much smarter & pragmatic than people give him credit for: getting the dreams is only half of his reason to turning to drink, the other half is that he gets what the dreams entail in their symbolism.

I recently read A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and boy oh boy do I love Dunkin Eggs! XD So here's a scene from The Mystery Knight featuring Egg and Lord Bloodraven - it's not in explicitly the book but it's a scene that would've happened in the background (no doubt we would've seen it if we had an Egg pov loll)
I also went for my inky style this time, with a more stained-glass vibe; I figured it'd be fitting for the story's medieval setting, and I can also play around with the figures and composition without worrying about accurate anatomy hahaa
