you know what? I’m going to complain about this again.

if you like something someone’s made, for god’s sake just tell them.

yeah, I know feedback isn’t the motivation to write, or draw, or edit - but when you’ve poured your heart and fucking soul into creating something, it’s a little soul-destroying to get nothing back.

last week I updated a fic I’ve been slowly working on over the last three months - between moving house and starting a new job and working full-time, I’ve been chipping away at it until I could publish a chapter I was really happy with.

and I was so damn proud of this chapter; I thought it was one of the best (if not the best) I’ve written for this story so far, and I was really excited to see what people thought of it, or which bits they liked, or what they thought would happen next.

the hit counter increased by 200. TWO HUNDRED hits. and this story has 50+ subscribers from previous chapters. all that, but not a single comment. and even if people went back to reread it, or because they marked it for later, that means at least 150 different people read it. not. one. single. comment. a couple of people reblogged my tumblr link, which was cool, and I appreciated that a lot - but notes stack up quickly, and less than a week later, I can’t find what they said again.

and sure, I don’t write for other people, I started writing this story because I wanted to read this story. but imagine if you performed something onstage, and no one applauded. lots of people came to watch, and a few people gave you a thumbs-up, and that’s nice. but you’d go home thinking no one liked it. and you’d never perform again.

feedback doesn’t have to be long. fuck, it doesn’t even have to be coherent! but literally any creator will take a keysmash or a string of emojis over a like or a click of kudos, any day of the week.

if you like something, tell the creator. especially if you see that no one else has! otherwise don’t complain if they stop showing you what they’re working on.
