#vet Stan is very important to me

I'm not sure if you've ever elaborated on anything like this already but in OJV are there ever times when being a vet gets Stan really down? I remember your post about being a counselor sometimes getting Kyle and it made me wonder if treating really neglected animals or other jarring cases ever have an effect on Stan/his and Kyle's routine for such cases.

Because I’m a huge fucking wimp and don’t stomach angst well, the vast majority of Stan’s time at work is routine pet checkups, shit like that, but as is the nature of his job, he sees a LOT of things that make him sad. Y’all know OJV Stan, all my Stans really, are huge sweethearts and animal lovers, and any case of an animal suffering hits him SUPER hard. His coworkers know this about him and he’s been sent home early on multiple occasions because of it (tw for pet loss)

So a headcanon I have is that Staniel is super fucking kickass at calming down his patients, he’s almost always the tech helping out with especially the bigger more nervous pets, but he’s also incredibly emotionally driven in general, and an old sick dog wagging its tail at him on the exam table will have him sobbing. Animals trust him as a general rule, and Stan’s biggest concern at work is that he is NOT in the room when a pet gets put down. Early on into his career, he thought he could handle it, couldn’t cope seeing the owner break down in their pet’s last moments, and had to take a full week off. He’s fantastic at what he does, but he does need some accommodations, and is lucky enough to work with people who know him and can work around not only his general mental health issues, but also the emotional attachment he forms to the sick pets.

On a lighter note, I know I’m definitely not the first to hc Stan as a vet tech, but IT JUST FITS HIM SO WELL!!! And OrangeJuiceVerse Stan being a big boy just makes me emo too, like picture him holding a damn ostrich or something, this man is picking up animals that are literally bigger than his partner with EASE. Also there’s just something about a big man and a tiny cat that just melts me (hi Moose)

It’s so baffling to me the way they changed Luz’s intro in the pilot to the utter bs in the actual show. I’ve seen it criticized before and there’s always some stan going like ‘it’s kid show it’s not that serious’…but the show wants to be serious. It wants to be a realistic and grounded take on a fantasy cartoon and prides itself on that. So obviously to do that they decide to change ‘weird and out-there, but pretty harmless’ to ‘teenager with vet mom misuses multiple living snakes and brings explosives into a school when she grew up in an age of mass shooting fears and not even a water gun could be on campus’.

Yeah, I've had some run-ins with salty stans who try and brush my criticisms off with 'it's just a kids show', but still praise it for being 'more than a kids show'. Gotta love double standards! Don't listen to them, I say! They're likely just upset you dared to say mean things about their precious show and just label you a hater.

To put it lightly, Luz has a terrible introduction for a character we the audience are supposed to feel sorry for. Her 'quirky antics' are genuinely dangerous! She brings Snakes into school, which escape and bite people. That's not even mentioning the fireworks in an enclosed environment! Then, she's just so blasé about it! Then we're just supposed to go 'haha, oh Luz, that lovable little rascal. She's so silly.' THEN, we're supposed to see her being sent to a camp for the summer as some terrible thing. Very tame punishment, I think! Luz, mate, you're lucky nobody got the police involved!

You're correct! I haven't seen it in a while, but I'm certain Luz was way more tolerable and sympathetic in the storyboarded pilot. She's shown as just being a bit eccentric, rather than an uncaring willingly oblivious arse. And, I think we actually see her being ridiculed and laughed at for the crime of being a bit weird, rather than people being rightfully annoyed that she decided to mess with things for attention.

The sad thing is that I wouldn't mind Luz being a bit of a self-important, delusional little shit at the beginning if this was part of some kind of character arc. While in the Demon Realm, she properly begins to realise that this 'fantasy world' is not like the ones in her stories, but a real breathing world with real people and real problems. You know, like how it SEEMED the show was going for at first before becoming a wish fulfillment power fantasy. She has to learn to stop living life through her stories and that her main character syndrome is only detrimental to herself and those around her.

As she goes along in the story, she begins to learn boundaries and that not everyone appreciates her intrusive behaviour. At the beginning, she thinks Camila is unfair and holding her back, but she soon comes to see that her Mum just wanted what was best for her. She comes to see that she was quite ungrateful and selfish. When Luz and friends come back to Earth, she practically dives into Camila's arms and profusely apologises for being a bad daughter.

Deep Dive of Bucky’s Character Design

I have ridiculously strong opinions about Bucky being drawn with blue eyes in most comics now-a-days. Sebastian Stan is hot and all, but his character design is really important to his overarching theme in his early runs.

1. Eyes

According to Marvel’s Handbook, Bucky Barnes has brown eyes and has been drawn that way for a long time. Brown eyes are the most common eye color for all races. Mostly because of its dominant trait. Bucky has never been drawn to be unique. No flames or gills, just a plane man. That was the whole point of his creation to encourage young people and normal people to make a difference.

2. Hair

Of course, his hair is also brown. The most common hair color. I think it’s also important to note, other than as the Winter Soldier, he keeps his hair short. Growing up on a military base and then joining the military at 16, it’s not that surprising he is use to having his hair short. Of course, it’s not like they are measuring your hair length in the middle of WW2 so this is probably out of reqs. A part of Bucky’s history that is often ignored is that he was used as the soldier behind Steve. He did the killing and dirty work while Steve fought more like a hero. At heart, he is a soldier not a symbol.

3. Height

Canonically, Bucky’s height is 5’ 9” which also happens to be the U.S. average for men. Compared to a lot of heroes, especially super soldiers, he is shorter. In fact, he is only two inches taller than Natasha. Meanwhile, Steve would tower over him. I think this once again hones in that Bucky was suppose to be the normal guy on a team of heroes and androids. Luckily, he does not have short man syndrome.

4. Uniform

There were no flashy stars and strips for Bucky in the war. Even as Captain America, his colors were more subdued. I find that Bucky’s original costume reminds me of the Union’s civil war costume with the buttons (image from MET). In fact, some regents added red into their blue costumes as well. As the Winter soldier, his costume is a call back to the modern soldier. His uniforms have always designated him as a soldier no matter what side he was on.

At the end of the day, Bucky Barnes was written as an average man keeping on par with superheroes like Captain America, Atlanteans, and super androids. Unlike some characters (*cough* Clint *cough*), he’s never been too upset about not having powers and being average. However, he does hate being considered a side kick. I mean imagine calling a WW2 vet a sidekick. His character design has been very important in establishing his normalcy. He was always drawn as an average Joe with brown eyes and hair and an average height. Bucky was meant to connect with readers and inspire them in a different way than Steve. Even though he’s not really normal anymore with a metal arm and the infinity serum. To me, he will always have dark eyes.

Lanie: pov this first photo a nurse took, it's her in the CICU with the breathing tube in, she had it in for a week to help her left lung and until she woke up. I'm pausing because the photos go by so fast. During her first bandaged change the nurse chose to take a photo for us of her injuries/future scars and one with the bandage on.

Parker: pov wow that is one insane injury I can't believe you survived that, Stana says me either. Lanie mentions Stana told her something after waking up.

Stana: pov As I was dying in the ambulance and the OR, I saw my mother and she told me to keep fighting.

Parker: pov you saw your mother? Lanie tells me Stana's mom died in 1999. Oh that makes sense, I guess she was looking out for you.

Lanie: pov A few photos of upset friends and family members go by. The nurse took this photo a few minutes after Stana was awake and the breathing tube was out at this point she still had the chest tube and monitors.

Pamela: pov what is this blurry video of?

Lanie: pov it's her first echocardiogram after the shooting, it's an ultrasound of her heart. The Dr's/surgeon wanted to see if everything looked okay and that they didn't miss anything important.

Jeff: pov hey Lanie what are those weird spots on the echo thing, ultrasound whatever it's called. Are they internal stitches or something else.

Lanie: pov yes they are. A few more photos go by, after the first month in the hospital Stana said she needed space and went to her dad's cabin after being released. The hospital sent a home Healthcare person to be with them in the beginning.

Kate/Stana: pov I had to wear that annoying heart monitor that thing, wouldn’t stop beeping and got tangled in everything. Barton comments how I'm looking much better in these photos.

Lanie: pov Here comes her first steps. The ultrasound video from the special test is on her also, I was in the room with her during the test. It was scary to properly diagnose her. They insert a catheter and induce arrhythmia, Stans says which doesn't feel great at all.

Parker: pov I can't believe she had to learn to walk again. Barton says It's time to get back to work and if Stana needs a few extra minutes she can have them.

Kate/Stana: pov I just want to go back to work to take my mind off of everything that just happened. Lanie mentions if I'm okay she is going to head back to work since perlmutter is filling in for her. Nick is picking me up after work. The rest of the day goes okay. Parker and Pamela, who are dating, invited me and Greig to an outdoor concert tonight saying it will also have food. I will have to think about it. It's hit or miss with loud noises. I wouldn't want to ruin it for everyone by having an episode.

Ryan: pov I'm getting a frantic call from Jenny who says she thinks something is in the backyard she saw movement, she thinks it's a cat. Since Esposito is driving I have him drive me over there. We both got out and looked around in the backyard where Jenny saw the cat. It's definitely a stray cat, she says the cat looks pregnant. I tell her to take it to the vet to make sure it's okay and that it doesn't have a family.

Jenny: pov I grab a box and put an old blanket in it, Esposito puts the cat in it, I look up local vets near me.

Esposito: pov by Jenny keeps us updated, me and Ryan head back to the squad car. We are still on shift.

Jenny: pov the drive to the vets office is short, the receptionist is very nice. I find a spot to sit and wait for my name to be called, it eventually is. In the exam room the vet tech starts asking me a bunch of questions which I answer as best I can. Marcus checks to see if she has a microchip which she doesn't. An ultrasound is going to be done to double check that she is actually pregnant, how many babies she will have and how far along is she. Marcus says she is definitely pregnant with 7 babies due any day now. I ask if I can keep her. He said sure let me make some phone calls. He is back in the room with some paperwork for me to fill out. The vet gave me a basket of stuff for her and told me it's okay to take her to the pet store while I get a few things since I want to keep her. I already called Ryan and discussed this with him.

Castle: pov an author friend of mine invited me out to dinner tonight then we are going to the movies. I've been so bored today and not in the mood to write. It's hard not having Kate here. She is my inspiration/muse. Maybe this will take my mind off of her not being here.

Officer Nicholas (Nick) Stephen McSwarek/Greig: pov me and Kovitch got a lot done while Kate is at work, I check the messages on my phone and realize I have some missed calls and text from lanie and Barton. I call Lanie to ask what happened and she explains everything to me saying Kate is fine and leaving work at a normal time.

Jenny: pov I don't want to stress out the cat so I make sure the trip is quick, a nice employee helps me out. Sarah Grace is going to be so excited when she gets home from school. Back home I'm setting up an area in the house for her. Will still need to pick a name. It's hard being pregnant, at least she has a safe place to live. To be continued. …….

Building a Healthy Relationship: The Three Foundations

I’ve been thinking a lot about relationships lately, and what is most important to me. I really wanted to drill down to the absolute essentials that are at the core of a healthy, sustainable partnership.

The three most foundational factors I’ve identified are as follows:

One: Character – I consider “character” to be about whether someone is kind, honest, trustworthy, patient, compassionate and has integrity. It’s not so much about personality traits that are neutral, like introversion versus extroversion, but rather the choices people make with what they have. It’s about whether someone is truly a good person at heart, whether they genuinely care about others or whether they are mostly selfish in orientation.

Two: Emotional availability – Is this person emotionally available to have a committed, secure-functioning (see Stan Tatkin for more info) relationship long-term? This foundational element is closely linked with attachment styles. Typically people with Secure or Anxious-Preoccupied attachment styles tend to be more emotionally available, while those who are Fearful-Avoidant or Dismissive-Avoidant will remain unavailable unless they proactively work to change.

Three: Mental/emotional stability – This is about whether someone is mentally and emotionally stable enough to maintain a healthy, secure-functioning relationship and consistently treat their partner with love, respect and care. I’m not saying that anyone has to be 100% stable, as that is quite unrealistic. However, many people are not stable enough to be able to actually maintain a healthy relationship with another person, and often relationships fall apart for this reason.

There will also be some variation from person to person in terms of what they need or what they can handle in a romantic partnership. Some people can handle a much higher level of emotional or mental instability in a partner than others. Some can tolerate someone who is more avoidant or emotionally unavailable, without undue harm or distress. But in general, these three factors are common issues that make or break partnerships.

Next you have the ‘pillars’ of the house, which are other important aspects of compatibility that often end up being deal breakers. These include the following:

Core values and ideals

Relationship goals, e.g. do they want to get married, do they believe in monogamy, do they want children, etc.

General future goals and dreams (e.g. with regard to career, where they want to live, and so on)

Beliefs and worldview – religion/spirituality or lack thereof

Skills and values about finances and money management

The last layer, or the ‘roof’ of the house, include these aspects of compatibility:

Love languages

Personality types

Interests, passions and hobbies

Cultural background

Lifestyle – e.g. does this person like to travel or move frequently? How important is it to live in a clean and tidy house?

Sexual chemistry and compatibility, including libido levels and sexual preferences

Each element of the building is important, and worthy of consideration when vetting potential partners in the dating process. You need all aspects in place to form a truly healthy, lasting and sustainable relationship. However, there does tend to be a little more leeway in the last category. For example, people with very different personality types can often still have a healthy, happy partnership if they have shared values, goals and compatible attachment styles. Having shared hobbies and interests is a great bonus, but not essential for all couples.

What would your ideal relationship “house” look like? What are the most important elements that you can’t live without?

Two different people, certainly: but the same beginnings. (At least, I don't think it's indicated that their story is changed prior to 1943 or thereabouts and I don't have time to go back and watch the episode at the moment to double-check, so I'm assuming the same Brooklyn upbringing.) What I'm saying is, the seeds for 82111 Bucky are the same seeds for 616, for 99999, for whichever Bucky we're looking at in any given timestream.

Looking at it purely from a writer's POV, it makes sense to me that if one Bucky ends up working for the federal government in some capacity, then there's a good chance another Bucky will do the same, even if it's not the same role. They're echoes of each other (all the What Ifs are echoes of each other).

As you say, 82111 Bucky had a more typical life: no death in the Swiss Alps, no Hydra mind control, no 70 years of murder & mayhem. The guy's married with kids and probably a townhouse in Georgetown. In fact, we could probably assume that 82111 is more the control in the Bucky experiment than MCU Bucky - after all, this is the guy without the tragic backstory.

But if you go with the theory that the timelines are echoes of each other - and for the record, I do - then it makes sense that MCU Bucky's life would echo 82111's. He's trying to find his normal, his trajectory, he's trying to figure out who he is. And why not start back with who he would have been without the tragic backstory? (Answer: 82111, or some version of him. If 82111 went into politics, it makes me think that maybe there was something in Bucky that was always leaning toward public service, beyond enlisting in the Army. That line about how the Winter Soldier shaped the century? Okay, fine, it's a total line from Hydra meant to bolster the WS's resolve and whatever, but it's also a really good bit of motivation to convince a guy who already wants to do big things that this is the way to go.)

Senator's maybe not the way I would have written Bucky going, but yeah, okay, we'll go with it for now. I'm guessing that Bucky being a senator in Thunderbolts* is gonna be important, either as a plot device or a character development, because otherwise he could have easily been doing half a dozen other things (volunteering with vets, rebuilding houses, hanging on Sam's boat, moping on a sofa while he misses Steve, rescuing Alpine from a tree, whatever).

I like what @melles1276 said in their reply, that Bucky being a senator might have something to do with Val. I think definitely the glimpses we saw of Bucky in the trailer, he doesn't look particularly happy. (Seriously, does the guy smile even once? That kitchen is awesome, that dishwasher is clearly powerful, why is he not smiling, the divorce from Sam must have been majorly traumatizing.) Whereas if I remember correctly, 12111 Bucky seemed pretty happy in his own skin. Or at least he was comfortable in his role and his career in a way I don't think we're going to see from MCU Bucky. It makes me wonder if MCU Bucky became a Senator either because he felt like it was something he had to do, and not wanted or felt particularly called to do, and now that he is a Senator, he's finding that the role is something very different than what he anticipated.

(Which, you know, fair. I have the feeling that the day-to-day of being a Senator is probably much different than how much of the country actually imagines it. Same for most public-persona jobs, honestly.)

Anyway, this is probably super incoherent but in my defense, I have two 9yo boys running around the house demanding to go to the local corn maze before it rains (again, ugh), so hopefully at least something in here makes sense. In conclusion, I will happily take Bucky as a Senator if for no other reason, it means we get to see Sebastian Stan in a tux, and I think we can all agree, that's an acceptable outcome.

as someone who knows very little about the American governmental system... is it even realistic that Bucky is a senator/candidate, outside of the simple fact that it goes against everything we know about his character for the last 13 years and is deeply ooc and weird?

Can someone with his history actually become a senator? Dude has killed like...a lot of people, specifically American citizens to keep it relevant to this context, and he's openly broken the law and gone against multiple governments in some of the most wild displays of anarchy alongside Steve and the Avengers. Also I don't think he's been a consistent enough resident of any state even if you take out the Blip?? At least 9 years right? Bro has maybe been on American soil for 3 years, pre AND post Blip, and that's being generous assuming Thunderbolts takes place in 2024-2025.

I don't know how realistic it is that he's even able to run for senate? I'm not an expert, not American, but it just seems absurd.

I'm glad she deleted the tweet and that she says she'll be reading up on it. However, this definitely isn't an apology the "hysterical weirdos" comment is not ok. But she drove potential customers away, so good for her. Though she made big fans of Jared stans.

Writing off people saying, "Hey, this symbol is racist," is not ok.

Trying to saying something doesn't have to be racist when it already is and has been is not ok.

Telling people they should use the energy they are using to 'come at her and an actor' to instead get the symbol off the Texas Driver's License, is not ok.

And the takes she was providing were (and are, since she hasn't deleted all of them as of writing this) completely awful and we're very much ignoring facts presented to her. And it feels kind of like they still are due to the "hysterical weirdos" comment.

Yesterday’s lie

ohhhh so much to talk about so much pain so many theories TOH SPOILERS LET’S GO

I had been wondering if Creepy Luz would end up being a sympathetic character. since there was a chance both her and Hunter had been created in a similar way, and Hunter has thoughts, feelings, memories, a personality, then why not our doppelgänger? Turns out she is not a grimwalker, but she was basically a scared child. Must protect Vee she is so cute

That being said, with Vee being completely ruled out as a Grimwalker, this plus some info we get during the episode very much 100% confirms Hunter as a Grimwalker in my eyes. Oof, this’ll be rough buddy

So the reveal of there being TWO humans, two BROTHERS who went to the BI is a big deal. One of them is Philip, who I am now more convinced is Belos (I preferred the idea of him being a descendant) and the other one is... Camila is such a sweet, understanding mom. you can tell she loves Luz’s weird and creative side but just wanted to help her fit in better. which judging from Vee interacting with other kids from camp, it may have helped!

Speaking of which, it makes sense a bunch of weird kids would be sent to such a camp, I’m glad to see they were nice to her. Luz clearly hasn’t had a good experience with kids her age on earth

So, I think Laura & Max are a pretty good match.

You definitely can catch the vibe of ''over-ambitious girlfriend dragging her doofus boyfriend along'', but in my opinion, it's very surface-level.

Let's talk about Max, since we saw less of him.

The website and fan-wiki describe him as lacking ambition, airhead, class-clown, but also friendly and loyal. I really do think he would be more content working or having his own repair-shop or something near Laura's college and it doesn't make him any less of a great guy. He clearly loves Laura and believes in her.

And let's be clear, he's so dorky. Him trying to scare Travis when sheriff's the one in the cell? So stupid. But he's okay wearing Laura's clothes and i take it as him being completely okay with his sexuality. That means we get another Ryan\Dylan stan, folks. He's not a full golden retriever, he get's annoyed with Laura, but still, doesn't like fighting. He also keeps his emotions and failures deep down, untill he forgets about them, maybe or they just come out. I think he hid the rejection letter because he's afraid to loose Laura.

There is also his quickness to give up. He does try to lighten up the situation first, but he does come to a conclusion that they gonna be stuck in the jail forever. Prone to depression? Maybe, he's not so upset about grad school itself, because college took a huge toll on him.

Let's speculate on the past a bit. They kind of seem like if they were together at school, Max would be bullied and some point Laura would fend off his or their bullies. Laura is not only hardheaded, she generally seems meaner than Max. Sister of multiple brothers\daughter of a strict\toxic parents and an only child of an over-bearing mother?

She cuts him off and corrects him during Chapter 7. But I feel like he have done it too, but in a different sence. Maybe, when she's being too mean in a group setting? Over selling a crude joke to its fullest extent? Play-fighting too hard? She does go full monster-hunter in two months, because she's so fed up with everything and just wants to help her boyfriend. She must know how to shoot and there's nothing wrong in winning plushies for your boyfriend.

They are very comfortable with each other. I don't really think that they were each other's firsts, but it does seem that they've been together for at least like a couple of years. College sweethearts? You can't deny that Max's rejection letter is from a graduate program. Laura, in my opinion, must be a biology major or something, and she would go to a vet school. She very much can be CPR-certified or something like that. Also, don't qoute me on that, not American. Maybe, they both didn't find the college scene amusing and just vibed together. It's sounds super nice, actualy.

I'm gonna go as far as saying that their families might not understand them to the extent they need. So, they just exept each other as much as possible and love each other very much. There might be a way to reunite them, when they both have blood on their hands. Story-wise, it's great both ways. Either way, they are tied together, issues or not. So. Much. Potential.

Considering everything, especially their (alleged) age being in early 20s, Laura and Max would be the most functional couple at camp. Max for sure would get along with everyone, when Laura might spook people like Abi, Nick or Jacob a bit. Kaitlyn or Ryan would take to her attitude a bit better, I think. We might not even have Jacob\Emma drama in the world where Laura & Max reached the camp in time. And just imagine kids crushing on them both, that would be so funny. Ten year olds trying to challenge Max for Laura? Or girls saying that Laura is too old for Max? I kinda hate kids while thinking about it, but it would make for a funny story.

In conclusion, they just seems as nice couple that doesn't really need to be broken up. So much was left to the fandom's imagination, everything can happen, but still. As Siobhan said in an interview, their backstory isn't set in stone. Do what you will!

I also might be a tad obsessive or...a good writer? I don't know. I just need to rid myself of a lot of Quarry speculation, but I someone enjoys reading my weird shi..stuff.

i agree with you that they would be good fathers, but what kind of good dads would they be? personally, my headcanon is that kyle is pretty strict and overprotective (*cough* not unlike shelia *cough*) while stan is more lenient with them. i understand those was basic as fuck, so i could like to hear yours if you’re willing to. regardless, i’m hope you and everyone else has a splendid day/afternoon/night~

I spent a few days sitting on this ask and trying to think of a few more details about exactly what kind of dads they would be, but I think you're pretty spot on! Regardless of what kind of parent Stan is, I think that it's a safe bet to say Kyle is going to end up pretty close to Sheila 2.0 - though I think you could really make a case for whether he's calmer or even more overbearing depending on how the rest of his life goes.

Kyle would probably be a lot like Sheila in the sense that his overarching goal is to protect his kids from harm, and that he really feels a passionate need to drive his own moral values into his kids - and that's not necessarily a bad thing, but in the process it kind of stifles the kid, as Sheila's obviously shown to Kyle. However, Sheila is in general a great mom, and I have no doubts that Kyle would be a great dad! His paternal/fraternal instinct is insanely strong, and he really takes to parenting/taking care of kids like a fish to water - and in Help, My Teenager Hates Me!, he's the only kid to really seek out alternative solutions when his parenting style doesn't work. When faced with trouble, he's willing to admit defeat in the regard that he's willing to try alternative solutions, and he does so quicker than Sheila - Sheila eventually gives in after seeing the consequences of her actions in the movie, but it definitely takes a little longer. That obviously isn't a completely accurate vision of Sheila's parenting skills - that's only one instance, and an instance where she had much more of a (albeit a semi unreasonable) reason to fear for Kyle's safety/health - but I think it's definitely notable that Kyle's learning that skill quicker than his mother did, probably as a result of her being so stubborn in admitting that she's wrong. However, I think Kyle would be more 'strict' than Sheila in other ways - I imagine him having a pretty strict vetting process for his kids' friends, following how much Cartman put him through as kids, and you just know that would drive any kid insane and probably drive them towards less healthy friendships. However, even if he’d be strict about friendships, Kyle’s love for his kids really is unconditional - like Sheila, I think he’d be very accepting about the things that are important to them, and he wouldn’t be afraid to express that. 

In general, though, I think Kyle would be amazingly solid, whether as a single dad, with someone else, or with Stan. He's got the drive to protect his kids, and that drive is one of the things that makes Sheila one of the best parents in the show - not that she has a ton to compare to, but her desire to keep Kyle safe always shines through, and Kyle always knows it. I think Kyle and his own kids could butt heads similarly to how him and Sheila do so on the show, but I also think that being married to Stan in this situation would help him parenting-wise - Stan's equally as protective (I can actually imagine him being more in some situations, or at least there's a sharper contrast between how he behaves normally and how he behaves in situations were protectiveness is really warranted), but expresses it in a way that can seem less overbearing, and I imagine he'd be able to help diffuse arguments in a way that Gerald generally fails to do.

Stan, I think, is a little (less? more? I typed out less originally but then wrote even more for him lol) complicated parenting-wise - though that doesn't mean he's any less of a good parent. Stan would be less likely to create a divide between himself and his kids when they're 8-12 and finally discovering themselves, which is when Kyle would probably have a hard time realizing that his kids are growing up - but he could be more likely to have a difficult time when they're teenagers. Stan really wants to know that his hard work is being appreciated - that, like in the teenagers episode, his kid is actually doing something to prove that his parenting is working - and I can imagine him being a little bitter and adopting the 'fine I'll go f/ck myself' mindset when his teenagers start becoming naturally distant. Kyle's rational enough to realize that just trying and trying to bond might not be enough, and there are different ways to address issues at different stages of life (cue the teenager book), but I think Stan wouldn't understand this at first, even though he obviously underwent that significant life change at a younger age than Kyle did (YGO/Ass Burgers). I think he'd eventually get the hang of it though - and when he realizes that teenagers being unappreciative assholes is just a natural part of life, he'd be able to adapt to bond more effectively with them. His experience with depression at a young age would probably actually help him with this - I think he'd be more likely to be the parent that the kids turn to when they want a good cry, or when they have something deeply personal that they want to share. Kyle is adored and trusted by the kids, but Stan's a better listener, and if you just want to sit on your dad's lap and tell him about the sh/tty kid in your class without having your dad threaten to go in and kill them, Stan's your guy. Stan's more relaxed parenting style requires a little more maturity in the kids, and that's probably one of the places where Stan and Kyle clash - Kyle, subconsciously or not, wants to keep his kids under his wing for as long as possible, while Stan wants them to leave the nest and flourish into unique individuals. Neither of these are bad things, and it's already been shown that the two of them function really well when acting as parents together. They would probably temper out each other's less effective parenting styles, and I have no doubt they'd be able to raise some really sweet, well adjusted kids.

BFCD Reviews by Nesha: Final Space, Season 3

Everybody that know me know that I’m high class #Quillective trash and my main thoughts and feelings go out to Quinn Ergon and Gary Goodspeed - precious Gemini gems, and of course the BABIES: Little Cato, Ash and Fox #NeshaLuhDaKids I had some attachment to Avocato once upon a time, but that n***a got on my LAST nerves this season, so we currently at “Do you, Boo” status by the end of S3, and eventually, yes, I’ma get to why that is. 

Disclaimer for somebody who stumbled across this post because of the fandom tags - I am an independent partaker of this content, not “part of the fandom,” and my audience in particular is NOT for everybody. SO: If you may have been criticized in the past for casual racism, tone deafness to Black women’s concerns or accused of misogynoir or antiblackness, leave now. 

If you don’t like cussing, AAVE, general ratchetness and mean lesbian energy, you too might wanna go. A bitch can be eloquent, but I type like I talk, at times, so it is what it is and I don’t curate for kids, dudes, or nonblacks. That’s just what that is.

I wanna start with Ash Graven. This season is about Ash more than anybody else, despite the fact that there was a lot of emphasis on Avocato’s toxic ass man pain and growth in Quinn and Gary’s relationship, ULTIMATELY, nobody in the crew did more coming into fruition as Ash did, and I have a lot to say about her, because I have a lot of feelings.

♡ Ash Graven

1. Ash is a kid. Lol. Everybody got very confused because of the unnecessary transformation that Invictus gave her. Ash did not “grow up,” her body was altered. That’s a fuckin kid in a woman’s body. A kid who has previously been living with survivor’s guilt, parental abuse/neglect/exploitation, chronic trauma, and a disastrous superpower that most people could not be trusted to carry. She’s a child having a coming of age moment in this season that is mostly molded in manipulation. If you hate on Ash, go fuck yourself. ESPECIALLY if I’ve caught you stanning other characters who have been shit characters, in this fandom or not. Ash was dealt a shit hand and nobody had her back but her brothers, and she’s done what she could and thought was best to care for them. Anybody that missed that - just don’t have kids, K.

2. Ash has no parental guidance. As far as she knows, the only adults who have ever had her back are dead and the ones that she’s stuck with now, she GAVE a chance to try to trust them. She gave Quinn a chance to try to see some of Nightfall (the only adult that we’ve seen not exploit her) in her. She gave Gary a chance by choosing him over Clarence, when she had to make a choice. She even gave Clarence’s ass another chance - with which he responded by dying to not fail her. Now, she has Gary, who just a few days or weeks ago, idek, forced her to try to summon her powers while she was both injured and also upset over having to leave her brother behind - TO SAVE HIS GIRLFRIEND! And she got snatched away in the process and left behind with the enemy, to be mentally assaulted and returned changed, only to have them not trust her.

I love Quinn too. I love her dearly. But the facts were that she was dying and having an episode that nobody could really help with, and Gary didn’t take the time or consideration to think about the stress that he was putting on Ash by putting her in the position to make her feel like she needed to save Quinn for him. Whether or not she was the only one who could, that is a lot to put on a child, and not only did he do it, but he didn’t even seem to think that hard about it whenever he then left her ass. Sure, he was glad when she was returned, but that was a fucked up situation that yet another adult put her into, and the first thing that he should have wanted to do when seeing her was to apologize and try to make it right. It was a huge miscalculation to treat her as a potential enemy that he and Avocato needed to vet. EVEN IF that’s what she was to them, both of them should have had the sense to assess while still treating her as the kid that they supposedly knew.

3. Most of her trauma has been recent and continuous. She looked up to Nightfall, watched her die, and had a meltdown. The events from Season 2 (with Clarence almost killing Fox and leaving him to die, her leaving his side to help out, seeing that Sheryl was treacherous to her own son, losing Nightfall), and the events that are taking place in Season 3 are only in the span of a few months.

They were only stranded for a month whenever we see them surviving together. That girl has had more happen to her to hurt her than to help her and nobody around her BUT Little Cato has been sensitive to that. And they are all fucking adults.

These things being noted - changing Ash’s design was the absolute worse fucking thing. Aging a girl up to make the bad things that follow more palatable is what that seems to be. Ash is still a kid. And THEN, they allegedly made her a queer kid. I say allegedly, because that “reveal” was so poorly done and subtle and weak that I, an almost 40 year old queer, didn’t realize that that’s what they meant whenever they said that they were gonna reveal somebody as a character who is part of the LGBT community.

So... FS production just gon’ decide not only to transform her body into that of a woman, when her mind is still full on traumatized child and hormonal teenager, but also, she likes girls, and they didn’t even do it in a cohesive way that added to the story. They threw it in, like, “BTW, she likes girls, and also, she’s full grown now.” then immediately went for the “Villain” lever, and bitches just ate that shit up. Fuck y’all, forreal. 

& Fox

He didn’t deserve that shit. And, I know a lot of people felt that he was pointless and boring, but his ass was sweet and caring and searching for love and acceptance. As a background character, I liked him. But, he was literally just fodder for Ash’s downfall, which was unfair and problematic, considering that his ass is definitely Black coded. Don’t play. He was voiced by a Black man, spoke with a blaccent, and definitely would be read as Black if you wasn’t looking at him and seeing an alien. They gave him a sacrificial negro trope, the big friendly negro that can kill you but loves everybody trope, and they used his death to just push some narrative forward to set up the one verified queer character as a villain. They got they ass in a vehicle and rolled right over another Black character, and another queer character. Chile...

 ♡ Little Cato!!!

My precious have not been getting some good for too long, and I have had it. He’s not focused on so much this season as he is in the background of other people’s stories, but a very important takeaway is and will always be that Little Cato, aside from Fox, really was the only one here who consistently treated her like she mattered, so it made a lot of sense that he could be the catalyst for her finally having ENOUGH with these people.

I really wish that he could have found out the truth about his past from Avocato, because that’s really who OWED him that truth, but Ash did the thing that I’d expect and told him, to be honest with him. She even told him that Avocato wanted to tell him and that she took that right away from him, because she didn’t believe he deserved it, and I’m respecting her for that, too. I wish she could see how much it hurt Little Cato for her to try to take him away from his home. 

Little Cato has lived before, for a while, and he’s not mature enough to behave as a man, but he at least has a loving foundation to draw from, and having had that support, this is more of his home than it is Ash’s. He doesn’t know how to explain that to her, and she doesn’t know how to understand that for him. Just a tragic situation for two kids with a lot of problems.

♡ Quinn Ergon & Gary Goodspeed

Quinnary notes that might not be featured in the BFCD Reviews by Nesha:  (Quinn Ergon/Nightfall x Gary Goodspeed) rundown - 

I've had two favorite parts of this season so far and they're very mediocre things that you wouldn't think would be like my favorite part but they are. One of them was that the first thing Gary does when she wakes up is to ask her about her sister (someone obviously very important to her who he's previously promised to allow to let live through Quinn's memory and says he wants to hear about her when he's trying to keep Quinn from dying). Because... He really did care and wasn't just saying something to keep her.

Quinn's mother fucked her up in a way that is so frustrating because Black mamas really will traumatize you about their younger kids. That shit hurt. You showed your daughter dead bodies to make her think about that in the event that your other daughter might be in battle? Bitch wtf

Whenever we say that Black girls are programmed to put everybody ahead of us, that's unfortunately not just including Society, it's in households too. And Quinn comes from this place where that is her reality... Then she meets Gary and he doesn't even register for her as anything special. He doesn't appear impressive or incredible in any way... But he (admittedly) weirdly locks on to her and shares himself - thinking that he's showing himself to her, and ultimately he DOES. And he wants to see her too, beyond all this, who she is, at her most humane. He wants to know about her sister. About someone who mattered to her enough to have the helm of her trauma when she was out of touch with reality. Very soft. Very sweet.

The other was when they were talking about how they met and stuff and Gary absolutely cringed thinking about how corny he was when he approached this woman. A lot of dudes never do that. The complaint of earlier seasons that Gary was overbearing, obsessive and creepy , if you missed the fact that he has terrible abandonment issues from his father’s death and his mother’s rejection, here we have him, in his adult state, looking back at the way he was and being embarrassed about it, and that’s growth!

A close third is whenever at the beginning of the Season he says "Quinn it's been a month eventually you have to open up to me about what you've been through" and she says "I will in time" and he respects it but he reiterates that he's there whenever she needs him. I don't think that people realize how revolutionary that kind of statement is especially for a character like Quinn to hear - who has always felt like she had to take charge, had to take the lead, had to make the sacrifice.

Even when she realized that she was dying, she didn't want to burden him with the information. Not even like ‘a thing that she knew if that could help prevent it and she didn't want him to have to go after it,’ but... she didn't even want him to have to deal with knowing about it!

Maybe she thought that she would just drop, maybe she didn't realize that he was going to have to see her in that condition. And then once she realized that he was going to have to see her in that condition one of the first things she says is "I should have told you." Girl is on her deathbed wishing she had done it differently, for Gary's benefit.

I saw somebody on Twitter tried to come for her about not going to Gary after he killed Fox (you know, shortly after her surgery to save her from the very brink of death, and listen... Quinn comes to see about Gary when she can. She’s done it several times. In fact, I’ma make a whole POST about Quinn and Gary moments SPECIFICALLY to point out to haters in the main tag - where they got Quinn Ergon, and by extension, me, FUCKED UP.

Stop Playing in Quinn Face

HI! HELLO. ACTUALLY MY FAVORITE PART OF THIS SEASON IS THAT QUINN AND GARY JUST FUCKED. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. THANKS. OK. Back 2 bidness

See.. after Gary and Quinn got over the humps of Quinn’s Final Space poisoning... everyone got it... nobody told her until Avocato was mad and told her during a lash out, and let me say something about Avocato’s fucking audacity this season... 

♡ Avocato (Note: His name is A-V-O-C-A-T-O. Some of y’all be tryna stan and y’all can’t even spell his name.)

I done seent Avacata, Avocata... That’s not that dude name. Be writing whole ass expositions about some other Ventrexian n*gga. Hope this helps:

AVOCATO. Listen, boy. YOU decided to be a traitor to your people and your king and queen. YOU decided to dedicate your cause to the Lord Commander and lied to your son his entire life about killing his parents, raising him, and never talking to him about it.

Yet and STILL - whenever you had the chance to finally tell him, you ain’t do the shit. Lord Commander gave you the perfect ass opportunity - WHEN IT CAME UP, and even then, with that boy looking you dead in the face and being glad that now he knows everything... you ain’t Ventrexian man up.

Then, whenever you were supposed to be checking on Gary after his traumatic murder fight with Fox and Invictus, you turned it around and literally made it about you. attacking him in the process and only after a physical fight did you apologize. (And y’all still didn’t get back to what had happened to Gary, which was no real fault of his own). 

Fast forward to after you willingly agreed to stay behind and fight and y’all lost. Now, it was Quinn’s turn to be the center of your blame and you lashed out at her because everybody is dying, despite the fact that y’all agreed to stay behind and fight, nobody even told her that y’all were sick, AND you still wasn’t 100 with Little Cato. 

You just had a lot of mothafuckin audacity this season, Avocato, and I personally was not here for the shit. Even when Ash blasted yo ass, your main thought was to threaten to kill her if she took Little Cato, instead of assuring her that despite what you’ve done, Little Cato was safe with you. No, she wouldn’t have listened to you. But, the words you chose tell us about who you are and how you are. You a war mongering killer that don’t ever take responsibility for his shit, and even in those brief moments that you do, its always somebody else’s problem. 

I’da thunk that LC getting snatched away would be humbling for you, but I guess you were chosen by the writers for minimal growth. Bye, Avocato. Witcha bitch ass. We is not cool right now, but you do you. Hope you find some growth up there in ya ass, where ya head been. 😁 Can’t believe I mourned yo ass. You coulda stayed dead as hell.

OK BITCH OK THIS FINALE WAS HYPE!

Let me pull it up so that I can liveblog it for the shit that I need to conclude this journey. 

We start out after Ash done took Little Cato and burnt off. Gary and AVOCATO done said they finna go get they son. Chile, I cannot handle Biskit voice. I like that lil’ dude but ya voice, Mane. I can’t with it. 

OK OK OK... Whenever Quinn comes up to Gary to talk to him and say potential goodbyes, she look like she wanna say some and that makes me think about whenever she looked like she wanted to say something in season 1 and didn’t. Quinn as grown a lot in her feelings for Gary, but she still has that hard time with talking about her feelings, but I love that you can see them in her face.

Chile... these folk was kinda taking they time gettin started, huh? Knuckas, do y’all remember that everybody finna die of FS poisoning? Lol. Also... why didn’t they start hallucinating and shit? I guess its not until it covers ya face? 

NIGHTFALL. 😥 I love you, Sis. I miss you. But, “Because I’m you and WE think of everything...” YES. I HAVE BEEN SAYING THAT! EVERYBODY EXPECTS QUINN TO THINK OF EVERYTHING AND WHENEVER THEY DON’T THINK OF THE THINGS, SHE GETS BLAMED FOR MAKING THE TOUGH DECISIONS THAT NOBODY ELSE COULD EVEN MAKE. Underappreciated, really. And people still mark Nightfall as a villain, despite the fact that she not only sacrificed herself, but also came specifically to help another Gary. Sidenote - Nightfall didn’t actually pursuit Quinn’s Gary until Quinn was trapped in Final Space and she thought she got a signal from him. So, I’m still salty AF that she been labelled as a villain just because people don’t like her, when her actions have all been to try to help. Here is no difference. She thought of the things that she didn’t think a younger version of her would think of, and left it for Quinn to find. Nightfall be on RNS, and most of y’all didn’t deserve her.

Quinn’s identity crisis is so sad, but I liked that Nightfall EVEN thought about that. And Sheryl... you kinda starting to grow on me. I hate to give shitty mothers who find compassion in old chance a try, but she do seem to really be giving it a go. 

Ash is so fucked up that she rushes right into the devil’s arms. This reminds me of when trafficking victims go back to their abusers because they don’t have the resources to adjust in the system. 😪 She REALLY believes what she’s saying. She really feels like Little Cato is safer with Invictus with the Team Squad. That’s sad as fuck, bruh. 

THE. ACTING. AND. ARTWORK. IN. THIS. CONFRONTATION. SCENE.

Avocato... I’m proud of you for FINALLY taking responsibility ad opening up about it. Little Cato’s reaction is precisely how kids in the system are, as well. They wanna be at home with their parents, no matter who their parents are or what they’ve done. and Avocato meant what he said and did what I referred to earlier as “Ventraxian man up.”

“I’m sorry we failed you,” from Gary was so important. Because, they technically did fail her. Had Ash seen the same amount of love from Gary as she’s seen him give to others, she might have been more receptive to the truth and less susceptible to lies. But, as she had just said earlier, it was too late for kind words. She’s currently beyond accepting them from him. For a brief moment, it breaks through, but without that ability to know love from an adult properly, she can’t accept that apology right now.

H.U.E. with his big robot, Lord Commander...EYE. There’s so much happening right now bitch processing has left the room girl. Biskit did so damn much this episode. And it was good to see everybody on the team have a moment to help things, instead of like one person having to handle the bulk of things. 

Quinn’s begging voice... its such a contrast from whenever she sent out the SOS in season 1 and was afraid and angry. Like... the desperation here shows her softness. 

Ash’s RAGE Bitch...

Gary’s “I love you...” She looked so happy! And then she just sat with it. I feel like she definitely loves him too, but she doesn’t communicate that way. But, her FACE. She was just... did she think that he didn’t before, or was she just speechless because she didn’t expect to hear it? Because, we gotta be real... Sis probably has not ever heard those words from anybody before. And that first time, when it’s really there is a DOOZIE. She had an abusive mother, a seemingly jealous or competitive sister, and we saw how nobody in the Infinity Guard respected her ass when she was serving them the real. I think this is the first time she’s been in love or felt it and when Gary said it, she had to collect herself. The way she ran to him and jumped into his arms??? SHIPPING CRACK. And Mooncake was a part of their hug too. I have a lot of feelings about this dynamic since Quinn and Mooncake are the only characters that we’ve seen Gary have these “love at first sight” reactions to and Mooncake is the first character that I recall Quinn being nice to in S1. 

So.. my heart was very full when they ripped it from my chest moments later. Mooncake has been watching Team Squad members be self sacrificing for a little while now, and he loves his family and Gary so much that he rushes straight towards danger. (Sure, I don’t think that he estimated how powerful Ash could be at this moment), but he had to at least consider that he might be caught or left behind.

Bitch, Ash is GONE. She said, “Fuck all y’all!” Not knowing whether or not Mooncake is destroyed makes it very hard for me to know how much I can stand this, but I also want to hope that he is gonna survive. Quinn having to make the decision to lightfold is hella sad, but even though Gary is destroyed, he has to know that this is exactly how Ash must’ve felt whenever he had to make the call to leave Fox behind. It very much sucks that Invictus is free and my brain can’t eeem FATHOM what that means for everything and everybody, but the Final Space poisoning left the Team Squad’s system, so maybe there is a rejuvenation of some sort in Invictus’ power? Or does Final Space poisoning leave your system as soon as you leave Final Space? I don’t think that was clarified. 

Anyways, I still don’t hate Ash. Y’all can say whatever about it, but I see sad white boys get forgiven all day every day on this site, and I’m upset, but I’m not letting my baby go. I’m not cheering her on, but unless she dies, I’m gonna hope for the best for her, like I said here. 

DAMN this season was some shit. Ionknow if I’m emotionally capable of watching another season of Final Space in progress. The gomez twins recently moved to the small together and are sharing an apartament.

Cereza is studying on a vet school and is now looking for a job to help her pay the apartment bill and also her studies.

Meanwhile Michael is still deciding what he wants for his life(mostly what he wants to study for) and he is working as nanny(i know ironic he doesnt seem the type to like kids but he is doing for the money mostly) to help his sister with the money.

They both like going to the coffee shop almost everyday and i can see them being friends with Night (i mean can they be friends??) And maybe talk about their lifes with them, share stories and etc.

I am wondering your view on engaging with the personas of IRL ppl as part of fandom. the tags on your music rec post say that you don't endorse the artists as people bc you don't pay attention to that sort of thing but you've also talked abt ppl like g*na c*rano negatively (I 100% understand, I am NO fan of her as a person either.) you write awesome meta about media & fandom, and idk if i've seen you talk about this topic before. have a good day/night! :)

I think it’s basically impossible to not be aware of celebrities within fandom (by which I mean the actors/writers/developers/etc involved in the media said fandom is built around) at least on SOME level. I mean even something as casual as people making memes about Filoni being the saviour of SW, or dunking on Favreau because of the season 2 finale, etc. Which is totally fine! I think actually talking about the real people involved in a piece of work helps to contextualise a lot of discussions about the media they produce. I even like those sappy articles about Pedro Pascal talking to the baby yoda doll like it’s a real baby or whatever, those things are completely harmless and pretty normal.

The issue I have is more around “stan” culture and people prioritising their personal and emotional engagement with specific celebrities over serious discussions about them as real people (see: people getting mad at others for rightly criticising Gina Carano’s racist and transphobic behaviour on twitter because they like her as a celebrity). So my flippant comment about not paying attention to celebrities is a clumsy way of me saying I don’t really like “following” celebrities on social media or using my free time to keep up to date on their personal lives. Again, I don’t think it’s inherently bad if people do that, it’s just that fandom trends towards extreme idolisation of celebrities that is deeply unhealthy.

The flip side to that is people keeping track of celebrities specifically to remember all the bad or problematic things they’ve done. And I do that to some extent too (see again Gina Carano), and I think it’s extremely important to keep in mind that these people are exponentially more influential than their audience with the things they say and do, so it is 100% fair to scrutinise their behaviour, especially if they’re spouting really harmful or bigoted shit. But also I don’t have the time or energy to keep track of every harmful thing any creative person whose work I admire has done, and I don’t think that is a healthy thing to do either. because you will ALWAYS find skeletons in their closets. And also like, at a certain point you will be incapable of enjoying anything - I wouldn’t be able to enjoy Star Wars AT ALL if that were the case. Again, it’s entirely valid not to engage with media because the people involved in it are shitty, and I’ve also done that, but by the same token I can’t like “vet” every piece of media I consume prior to consuming it. It’s a case by case basis sort of thing and you will have to use your discretion when deciding what you think is acceptable and what isn’t, but I think it’s unhealthy to view “consumption of a piece of work = endorsement of the people involved” OR “intentionally ignoring or getting angry at the criticisms of the people involved in a piece of work because it makes me personally uncomfortable”. The latter is often used to dismiss criticisms of things like racism and transphobia within both the media people are consuming and the authors involved in said media, but I don’t think the only alternative is to hew to the former. They also aren’t mutually exclusive positions because as I said, it’s a case by case thing and also people are inconsistent with how they apply those rules because people in general are inconsistent about their behaviour (which is not a moral judgement - I do this too!).

This is a very winding and long-winded way of me saying that in general, my personal approach to media is to consume it and enjoy it for what it is without focusing on the people involved in said media too much until it is directly relevant to bring them up. A good example is George Lucas - lots of people idolise him for being “the” author of Star Wars and get extremely defensive when criticisms of his work are brought up, and his words are often cited in arguments about Star Wars (“George Lucas said X about this topic in an interview so this is evidence I’m right”, etc). And I don’t think that’s entirely without merit, but I’m much more interested in referencing him as an author when discussing things like say, the racism endemic to SW and how he’s had a major role in incorporating racist themes into the text of SW, as opposed to him like, trying to alter canon by making external comments about it in interviews (“Dumbledore is actually gay”, that sort of thing). One is directly relevant to the text as it exists in popular consciousness, while the other is trying to patch-in extra layers of meaning or lore without altering/updating the text itself (GL also has edited and re-edited the OT like a billion times, but that’s different topic for another day).

So anyway, I’m generally critical of stan culture and my interaction with celebrities in fandom is to admire them from afar and/or criticise their behaviour when it’s relevant to the discussion at hand. Just as I think it’s good to be critical of the media you consume (not ‘critical’ as in being negative but in the sense that you are open to discussing its strengths and flaws as a piece of text and not treating it as impeachable or above critical review), I think it’s beneficial to treat celebrities the exact same way. They are people with flaws and biases, and those flaws and biases will inform how the media they are involved with is shaped to varying degrees. This is doubly true when the media in question is dynamic and evolving (as SW is), so the text may in fact change (see: the Tusken Raiders’ portrayal in The Mandalorian as compared to the Original Trilogy).

I hope that makes sense lmao. I also want to make it clear that generally speaking, I think it’s important to prioritise criticisms of media & celebrities over like, your personal discomfort with people bringing up serious topics like racism or transphobia or etc in media, because there are people who are already uncomfortable with those harmful things being present in the media you’re consuming in the first place - you (general you, not specific you) just happen to not be affected by it in this case. If it feels uncomfortable having it brought up to you, imagine how uncomfortable people directly affected by those things are when having to confront bigotry in something that should be fun and easy entertainment like a Star Wars movie.

in a kinder universe mary doesn’t walk in on azazel. she never burns. she and john divorce after a few years, but sam and dean grow up happy for the most part. things aren’t perfect, but they aren’t an endless string of motel rooms, killing people that your father says aren’t quite people before age 10, sips of whiskey far too young while your brother’s shaky hands stitch up a bullet hole in your arm, giving up on making friends because you’ve never stayed anywhere longer than a month.

there’s the mostly normal stuff - teenage angst and blowout fights, slammed doors and blasting rock music, first loves and breakups, and a nagging thought that never quite lets up in sam’s mind that he’s evil deep down, something that twists in his gut at the way mary looks at him sometimes - but everyone’s okay. when sam goes to college, he comes home for breaks and birthdays, makes quick calls to his mother every sunday and and long ones to dean whenever he needs to complain about his roommates. he and john don’t have the warmest relationship, get into biting arguments about politics whenever they talk, but they do talk.

but no universe has ever been truly kind. sam disappears from his apartment a few days before his 24th birthday and is found dead in a ghost town in south dakota a week later. mary leaves identical voicemails to john and dean. “i’m going to fix this.” they don’t see her again.

i want it to be very clear that while i do think sam & dean’s relationship is toxic that is not at all because they are each other’s most important person. it’s not toxic to have your most important person be a family member or friend instead of a romantic partner. it’s not toxic to want to spend your life with someone in a non-romantic non-sexual context, or to want to live with someone who is not a romantic partner. it’s just toxic to be abusive or bring someone back from the dead against their will or trick them into being possessed. it’s also toxic to be serial killers.

Some Twilight Headcanons I have (Part Seven) [Slightly Au?]

Jasper Hale

Wasn't actually a confederate soldier, but instead was a Union spy posing as a confederate soldier.

Knows just as much about fashion as Alice, and consistently helps her shop.

Is practicing medicine to help people instead of hurt them.

Jasper donated to the Quileute tribe.

Has PTSD from his time with Maria and attends therapy for it.

Once went looking for Maria later in life and actually found her, like a queen in her territories - she tried to manipulate him into rejoining her again but, he spent the time to tell her all the emotions and pain she put him through and they had a real talk about it. They frequently send each other gifts, Maria has even attended some of the many weddings of Alice and Jasper's.

Learned the control his thirst by exposure therapy, with blood bags, after he almost killed Bella.

Is demisexual.

Studied every form of war from history, along with every type of medicine and healing.

Sends money to the desendants of his human family, under the guise of Union payment due to service of Jasper as a spy for the Union.

Learned how to play sports for Emmett.

Has never used his abilities to pull Rosalie out of one of her PTSD moments, but instead monitors her so he can tell Emmett if she needs him.

If Emmett isn't around, Jasper will sit with Rosalie until her Moments pass or atleast abate enough for her to be able to talk to him about all the emotions she felt. They've become quite close due to it.

Knows how to play Orchestra instruments to play alongside Edward.

Gardens with Esme atleast once a week, and if he misses it they have a reading night together to make up for it.

He dances like a dad, like dad-moves. But he also knows how to ballroom dance - for Alice.

He draws, often, and can bodypaint and he paints things for Alice all the time.

Jasper will help Alice design fashion, including spending hours draped in fabric, and draping and holding fabric in very specific ways so she herself can create the pieces.

{Edit, brought on by this post  [that I just came across and reblogged] I would like to clarify:: I wrote the first headcanon in this list not to explain-away or excuse Jasper’s past.. I wrote that specific headcanon because it gives Jasper something to be slightly more (for lack of better wording) ‘redeemable’ because I do not find Jasper’s confederacy past to be... easy to give up or ignore. I personally only really liked Jasper in context to Alice as really a love interest - and maybe that’s not fair but I was never really interested in his character enough. Although, I do find his time as a newborn-war-vet interesting. If you stan him,and I’m not saying you can’t, I do hope you recognize the writing Smeyer gave Jasper is still insulting to people of color and not everyone can forgive that/him and not everyone needs to be okay with him as a character/nor do they need to like him. I wrote that headcanon to *personally* make me feel more comfortable writing the rest of this.

Smeyer wrote her vampire characters to be mentally frozen at the time they were turned, and Unless his time with Maria made him think differently/set a permanent change in him (Which according to Edward, via Midnight Sun, is highly unlikely), Jasper likely still agrees with the reason he joined the confederacy. Jasper’s confederacy days are very important to his character; because it led to his vampirism and his time with the newborn armies that led to Jasper becoming a decently important character in Eclipse; We don’t know much about Jasper’s confederacy days or why he tricked them into letting him in, but he looks back o those days with pride which makes me think he’s not ashamed of them. Again, I wrote him being a Union spy because it was *slightly* more redeemable because although the Union was not perfect they were (even if it’s only slightly) better than the Confederacy.}
