So that last still reminds me of this moment in S1 where Gary and Quinn held hands for the first time on their first date (which they were still on, because Quinn said it was a fun date, so the date wasn't just the drinks, but the whole sequence), and I'm going to think about this forever, since this was right before everything else went to hell too. 😭
Every time Quinn and Gary connect...

♡ Final Space Quinn x Gary ♡
♡♡ Quinn x Gary’s Journey Links & Commentary ♡♡
This is a long ass post. I believe that it may be the most comprehensive Quinnary post on the site.
I combed through Final Space in order to chronicle this relationship. The most detailed portions might have taken place during a manic phase. The less detailed parts were probably done during a fairly normal (for me) state of mind. I didn’t work on it during any bouts with depression, despite having a few during the course of this project. For the most part, this oughtta all be accurate.
FOR THE HOMIES @space-finally Happy Super Belated Birthday! @shslargue @andromidagalaxie @daintyurbanprincess @sleepyfangirl18 @simplyender
One note: Some of these links are clips on YouTube, some are gifsets created on Tumblr (most of which come from @chookity-dookity and @jlassijlali), and some are to other miscellaneous posts. I didn’t think about notating which are which until I was pretty far into the record, so clicking each link will be different formats of the scenes. Most are either gifsets or clips. If I can’t find one, there is just me blabbing.
♡♡♡ SEASON 1 ♡♡♡
Boy Meets Girl: This initial meeting is super weird out of context. Gary seems like a complete and utter creep and nobody in their right mind would have been interested in this man if this was how he approached them. Of course, since then, we’ve learned that Gary has limited people skills from having only one decent parent who died when he was young, and also abandonment issues from having an indecent parent. He’s fortunately learned better since then.
I Don’t Want to Wake Up: This scene is one of the main reasons that Cookie Wife really didn’t make any goddamn sense in S2, but anyways, Gary really said that he didn’t mind not waking up if it meant him being with Quinn again, and this is before she’s ever trapped in Final Space or anything. Gary simply had her in his psyche as his greatest desire and she’s just there, missing him and wanting to be with him.
The Reunion
I.G. Takeover Command:
Quinn: For some reason, they’re trying to shut down my investigation.
Gary: What a bunch of nerds.
Quinn: They’re after me.
Gary: You, why? You’re perfect.
Quinn: (Tells them what the problem is and everything bad that transpired after that)
Gary:... (Tries to fucking flirt with her)
The Fighting/Flirting Scene of YIKES!: Soooooooooo... I can’t seem to find a clip of this or a gifset, but it was that part where the ship is being taken over by the Infinity Guard, the Sames are turning on the crew, and Quinn is literally punching Gary in the face while he insists that they’re flirting. What can you do besides like... be turned completely off. That was terrible. Thank goodness he’s grown.
Arguing over who saves the day... SHE knows exactly what needs to be done, but Gary is trying to prove himself and OMG. Like... I don’t understand how people didn’t understand Quinn’s frustrations with this man in S1. Lol.
“Alright. We wait for Gary.” I NEED y’all to understand the compromise that was made here. Quinn wants to leave Gary behind. Quinn explains WHY leaving Gary behind is the best thing to do for billions of lives. The rest of these fools talmbout they not leaving without Gary, and so she agreed... I INSIST that y’all acknowledge that Quinn has literally become an enemy of an intergalactic superpower to carry out this mission, standing up to not only her superiors, but all of the reinforcements that they’ve sent after her... but instead of fighting them on it (and we know that she doesn’t mind doing so, even when outnumbered and outgunned)... She AGREES. She states her case the one time, they say “No,” and she doesn’t push it. That’s actually a huge show of compromise for her. Would she have gotten her way if she pushed back? Probably not. But she wasn’t above pushback and she still chose not to in this situation.
Girl Remembers Boy: This man literally gets his finger snapped for not respecting boundaries. Was it WORTH IT GARY?
♡
Painfully Short & Clear I actually LOVE this spot in their development because of a couple of things that happened here. 1. He asked her why she wouldn’t give him a chance. 2. She answered, very clearly and reasonably. 3. He “broke up with her,” but more than that - his FOCUS when interacting with her became the root issue that she named “That doesn’t inspire a lot of trust.” After this moment, Gary repeatedly focuses on getting Quinn to trust him (and not so much asking her out or asking for another chance), but WORKING ON himself, in a way that he has been clearly told what problem she has.
Corruption Stew - So, okay... I like this little tidbit too, because it shows that Quinn, for all her genius and all her common sense, her faith in the Infinity Guard is so well constructed that she doesn’t even CONSIDER that they’re corrupt. But Gary, for all his bumbling and borderline inefficiency in a plethora of things... Can see it for what it is, and is outspoken.
She Don’t Trust You Knuckas.
Quinn Tries to Send Gary Away.
(This is Gary and Quinn’s first adventure together! )
Gotta go around...
Quinn confronts the Infinity Guard about the Lord Commander (Okay... I can’t tell if the clip is messed up or my computer is having issues, so... I mean... sorry if it’s janked up.) Her Face
Gary Begs Quinn Not to Join the Infinity Guard
Destroying the Laser
The Trust Save
“Healthy People Trust”
♡
Chapter 6 is one of my favorite episodes of this show. So many things take place, but for me, personally, I care the most about the development/revelations of Quinn and Gary in it.
Quinn VS Avocato:
Sidenote: As much as fandom pits Avocato and Quinn against each other, I certainly hardly ever see the two clips in the show where they had their big disagreements.
It just feels like such a crucial piece of lore.
Like... this is so close after the whole, "Healthy people trust," and Quinn's first response to this disagreement (which is a huge and world threatening disagreement), is to pull a gun, then they're basically in a life threatening situation and her takeaway ultimately was, "I can't believe I trusted you." It made me laugh a little bit the first time, because I was like... "Dawg... you pulled a gun," but also like... it IS a situation worth pulling a gun over.
And Idk if I would ever trust somebody again after that, but definitely after tying me to a chair. Lol. A MESS. Gary was right when he said there was really no good rebound after that... but he was also wrong, because there actually was and it took place in this episode.
TRANSMISSION BINGE WITH MOONCAKE!!!: Where I credit the origin of Quinn starting to fall for Gary. I love that you can tell that she’s changing her mind about him, even though she doesn’t SUDDENLY become into him or immediately loses her common damn sense over him, or anything like that.
“You can trust Gary.” - HUE
“That idiot” (affectionate) and the Incoming Transmission.
Quinn: H.U.E. Where’s Gary?
H.U.E.: Unclear. I have lost communications with him.
Quinn: Then, we’d better get down there and find him. We’re coming Gary.
(She doesn’t say that they’re going to go get “them” or name Avocato and his son. She specifically states that she’s looking for Gary and declares to Gary that she’s coming for him). Whenever she resumes communication with him, he says, ‘Oh Quinn, you really do love me,” and though she’s concerned about him, saving him and warming up to him, she quickly corrects that - even though the connection wasn’t great. Lol. Which is another reason that I hate whenever people suggest that Quinn just became a Gary prop when she “suddenly” caught feelings for him - because her feelings started developing as early as Chapter 6 (her feelings of trust, or at least trying to in the previous episode). IT DIDN’T JUST SUDDENLY HAPPEN WHEN THE WORLD WAS FALLING APART YOU HEFFAS.
Rescues Gary and the first exchange of warm smiles... you know... before Avocato ruined the moment by getting blown up!
J/K... But he did really get his ass blown up shortly after. Seconds 30-about 1.00 tho? - Quinn being super happy to see Gary alive. Her focus is solely on him as he and the others board, and she watches him, smiling (one of her BRIGHTEST SMILES THUS FAR, MIND YOU), and after he greets Mooncake, he looks up at her and they just... smile at each other...
She isn’t mad at him anymore. She hasn’t left the ship to go on her mission alone. And, she is happy to see him alive (after she saved him). I’m reiterating this because a lot of folk try to act like Quinn only beat and bullied Gary up until the moment that they went on a date, and while those stupid people are probably not here, at this PRO-QUINN post in this QUINN LOVING environment, I really love punctuating that Quinn showed emotional acceptance of Gary AS EARLY AS this event.
It wasn’t because he lost his best friend. It wasn’t because she was stuck with him. She could have left. She chose to watch his transmissions, chose to save HIM, specifically, chose to stay and obviously was pleased with that decision after he made it back safely.
♡
She was soft with him when we next saw them together in 7...
(Image: Quinn comforting Gary when Little Cato shuts him out) Gary’s Message to Avocato
Quinn sends Gary to talk to Little Cato. She doesn’t always have the emotional maturity it takes to ease the problems, but I love the fact that one of the aspects of Quinn’s personality is that she tries to get the best person to comfort others that she can find. (As she later does this when Gary is anguished over Fox’s death and she knows that he “needs” Avocato, instead of her. And to a certain degree, also Nightfall, who encourages Gary to step things up with Little Cato).
Sidenote - I think its interesting that in this instance, when she looks around the room and there’s Mooncake, KVN and some Sames, SHE is the one to approach Gary and comfort him. I love the thought of her assessing the situation and knowing that this is the time when she IS the best person to do this, and that she’s willing to (because she cares). And it makes me wonder if she hadn’t already tried to be there for Little Cato too, because she was right behind him whenever he went through the vent and I believe that she’s been keeping an eye on him.
The Good Stuff: “H.U.E. What is he doing?” PLEASE NOTE how Quinn only EVER asks about Gary, specifically. You might say, that’s because he’s the only other human there, but she does this a lot, whether or not he is. She ONLY ever asks specifically about Gary when he’s involved in group shenanigans or danger. Quinn calls for Gary when they hear explosions from the ship. “What was that? Gary are you okay? Gary?!”
Nightfall rescues them and reveals herself to Gary right as Quinn comes in to check on things. Quinn and Gary argue... well... Quinn fusses at Gary for doing some very ridiculous and immature shit. Though, between us, I think that Nightfall’s presence and Gary’s acknowledgment of her as Quinn was a sore sport that caused her to bounce back into her abrasiveness as a defense mechanism. Gary is being quite nonchalant, despite having just gone on a suicide mission with a young boy, in which, someone else had to rush in and save them and the kid wound up injured.
Quinn seemed more hurt than angry, to me. She’s avoiding even looking at Gary as she lashes out at him, and when he suggests that he leaves, this is one of the few times that she agrees with him in this season. She’s not agreeing with his ass. She’s upset and doesn’t want to see him right now, and her tone is totally different than it was whenever she first entered the room, saying his name. Quinn didn’t show up to fuss at Gary. She showed up to check on things and Gary was goofing around with some flirtatious chick who had not only just saved him but was acting all cozy with him. She was probably actually upset with what had just happened, but you can’t convince me that she didn’t have jealous rage prompting some of her anger in this moment. To the point where she’s about to let Gary leave and sign on for raising Little Cato while she’s on this mission. “Quinn, Gary can’t leave.” - Nightfall
When Gary leaves the mission...
Quinn VS Nightfall.: Nightfall binds Gary, is caught and confronted by Quinn about what she’s up to, tells Quinn Gary’s typical fate in every timeline, and tries to kill Mooncake.
Quinn Needs Gary/Team: “Gary Rescues Little Cato” I would like to point out, as some like to forget A LOT of the time, that Little Cato meets Gary and Quinn on the same day. Gary signs on to take care of him, because he’s Avocato’s best friend and Avocato asked it of him, but Quinn is there, instructing Gary on a few parenting things, being EXTREMELY upset with him when Little Cato gets hurt in the process AND, was about to let Gary LEAVE Little Cato with her, since in her words of anger, he had allowed this to happen to Little Cato. And Little Cato heard their conversation (because as soon as they left he got up to use Nightfall’s time traveling ship), so he also knew that Gary was getting prepared to leave him there with Quinn and he accepted it.
In this scene, Little Cato clearly cares about her, too, and we know he was fond of Nightfall, and had her around for 60 years. So, listen... Long story short - Little Cato loves Quinn and sees her as a mom figure. She never actually officially signs on for that in adoption, so he doesn’t ever call her mom or anything like that. But, realistically - that’s his mom-head, and his parental ties to her are very much so real, despite her not being a formal mother to him on paper.
♡
This Entire Episode, Really...
Gary having his ability crisis with Nightfall/Quinn
“We are not flying into a sun!”: Okay, okay, okay... I think about this a lot, because it highlights my thought process that Nightfall and Quinn were never the same Quinn. She’s an older Quinn, yeah - but not THIS Quinn as an older person. But... the way that Gary is talking to Sis in this episode... He don’t be talking to Quinn like that. Even in this episode, where he is highly distressed the entire time and full of anxiety, the snippiest he gets with her is sarcastically thanking him for not believing in him.
Fly Into the Sun: I love this scene because Quinn shows that even though (we know, as I pointed out in earlier moments, that she has feelings for Gary at this point), Quinn doesn’t suddenly become some passive prop that is just there to go along with Gary’s shenanigans. She tells him the truth - he’s not a good pilot, but she also gives him a chance to prove himself - please do not screw this up. Earlier Quinn would have fought Gary until he got out of the seat!
Bolo’s Mind Palace: Nightfall wishes him good luck. She’s always really cheerful and nice to Gary, despite him not really returning it and I have to wonder if some of Gary’s learning to pipe down a little with the over the top clinginess to Quinn wasn’t aided by seeing how uncomfortable it was for him whenever Nightfall seemed into him.
Quinn asks, “What’s going on with Gary?” which winds up being how they’re allowed to see the interaction between Gary and his father.
The Talk with John: Quinn’s facial expressions whenever Gary is talking about her goes from being pleased that he said he loves her “to the max core,” to being saddened when he says that he doesn’t think that she likes him.
Gary Loses His Dad (Again) ☹: You can see the pain on her face when she has to see this happen to Gary.
They KNOW it's about to happen. Even if they didn't know before today, they knew from watching it unfold. Their reactions aren't reactions of shock and horror so much as hating to see Gary go through this tragedy. Because they care about him. She clutches her pearls and says, "No." This isn't the first death she's seen, in her career nor in the time we've seen her on the show. This hits different. This hurts her. She hates seeing this happen.
Whenever she consoles him with Little Cato, she chooses similar wording to the very thing that the person he loved most had just said to him.
Gary and Quinn are on the same page 😊 I presume this because Nightfall goes away. I think that she realized that Quinn was finally where she and Gary were in tuned enough that she didn’t need to stick around.
♡
After John’s transmission and Quinn’s speech (I can’t find a clip or gifset), Gary tries to ask Quinn “something” during battle. (It’s to go on a date) 🥺🥺🥺
He’s persistent about it, but not in that way that he used to pester her. Instead, this is more like... He chose a bad time, but then again, they might not have had time in the future. So, persistence is endearing here, in my opinion. PLUS, he wasn’t so distracted that he couldn’t still save her from danger. (Gary saves Quinn during discussion)
KVN’s save & “Gary, give him a little something”
Quinn agrees to go on a date with Gary. Worth noting: Yes, they think that they’re about to die. That’s actually what makes this even more meaningful to me. Before she dies, Quinn wants to know why Gary even likes her, and whenever he answers, he includes his definition of love. Quinn, in what she believes are her last moments is ready to agree to go on a date with Gary. She knows that they can’t go on a date. They’re about to die. What she’s really agreeing to in this moment is to be willing to take a chance on Gary. She could have said that there is no love here or too bad it’s too late, or something. But, she tells him yes, for once, to one of his inquiries about them, after he speaks about love and before what they think is their certain death.
The fact that they live wasn’t something they expected. I’ve already said that I think that she had her feelings long before this, but several things happen this episode in which those feelings are brought out of her, into the light, into Gary’s awareness and into the rest of their relationship. I think this was the moment that their path together truly started. When she finally said “Yes” to him.
Gary & Quinn’s “First Date” I really appreciate that even though everything is about to go to hell, they still get this moment in the place where they first met.
Honestly, this was simply funny to me. Y’all tryna save the world and Gary is tryna “bring it.” And Quinn looks like she’s into it. 😉
First Hand Hold 💘💘💘
Quinn becomes playful with Gary and allows him to flirt with her. She ALSO seems to want to say more to him. Whenever they’re underwater, she seems like she is going to say something else, but decides on, “This is actually a pretty good first date...” immediately after which, she rescues Gary from getting harmed and takes the blow herself, which knocks her unconscious.
* It is very important for me to point out the fact that Quinn rescues Gary here, placing herself in danger in order to save him, because I never see this scene anywhere outside of watching the show and I hardly ever see it discussed, either. The narrative that Quinn doesn’t care about Gary or that he’s always saving her, or that their relationship is one sided now has another example against it. For reference, I can tell you that it happens in episode 9, at the 14:30 timestamp, but I couldn’t find a clip and I can’t remember if there’s a gifset that I ever saw for it. My friend made this for me specifically for this post.*
The World is Falling Apart... Now... I’m also gonna simply challenge the idea that Quinn suddenly became a totally different person in this episode and suddenly was interested in Gary without reservations... That shit ain’t happen. Quinn very much still had some reservations about Gary and their relationship, despite having already began feeling deeply for him, she still doesn’t bend to every whim he has. (Hard maybe) They once again think they’re about to die and while Gary does ask her to be in a relationship and she doesn’t say no, there’s not a huge proclamation of love or a big kiss or anything like the descriptors that people have claimed here. All they do in what they think are their last moments is hold each other.
Mooncake. “He stays with us” 🥺 Gary and Quinn are next to each other, ready to go to war together. GOD I LOVE THEM!
SEASON 1 FINALE:
This episode is very important, because not only is it the last time that we see Quinn for a really long time, but it is the place where Quinn makes some hard decisions that I believe that she was contemplating before they got to this point. She always intended to be a hero. She always intended to save the world... She never intended to fall for Gary. But, that happens and now she has this journey. This journey with Gary, that she can tell is coming to an end.
When Gary gives his speech and he says that they’re “family,” Quinn nods her head and when he says, “We find each other,” she smiles.
A death sentence. The plan with the hawk. “Make us proud.” She puts some faith in Little Cato.
“Why are you fighting me?” Gary has actually been following Quinn’s lead for a little bit, swooping in to save her when necessary, but listening to her plans and leading whenever he sees fit. He hadn’t straight up went against something she set out to do, and hadn’t even argued with her in a while. And here... there is SO much going on. Nobody says “I love you,” even though the conversation makes it clear. His struggle to both support her but also to save her. Her insistence to carry out this mission because she knows its her life work, but still knowing that most likely she won’t make it out of this. His vow to make sure that he helps her. And that kiss...
The kiss was like... Let’s just revisit it in the way that I have so many times.
She MIGHT have known that this was goodbye. We can only presume. Look at her sad look afterwards. She told Gary “Don’t die on me,” but whenever he tells her that he wants more when she gets back, she doesn’t say anything about coming back. She knows, scientifically, what she’s up against because of her equations and this, for real, for real, this time... for her... this is likely goodbye. She doesn’t know of any possible way that this ends up in some type of rescue for her. “It’s both of us. Always has been...”
Losing Earth/Quinn’s Sacrifice Whenever she contacts him, her voice is so soft. Gary has just literally watched the Earth be taken. She has just watched the mission fail... She KNOWS what has happened in the past lives. She is already apologetic. She is apologizing to Gary. He expected her to come back. She knew better all along, and now she’s run out of time. Gary is more upset by her decision than what just happened to the Earth. It’s one of the most heartbreaking goodbyes...
“Which Way is Quinn?”: Gary sets us up for the ENTIRE MOOD of the next season with this line of questioning that he has. His body is ready to die, but he has this energy inside of him - call it thought processing, call it a soul, whatever - but Gary is determined not to die, because he has things worth living for, searching for, fighting for. His family. Which way is Little Cato? His son. Which way is Mooncake? His beloved... companion? I don’t like to think of Mooncake as a pet, but we know that technically he holds Avocato as his “best friend” so I can’t really call him that. Which way is Quinn? His soul mate... and with that... he comes back to and spends the rest of his time reuniting with them.
THIS WENT ON FOR SO LONG that I’ve decided to give it in parts. Seasons 2 and 3 will be separate from this post. After I’ve posted them, I will come back to include the link(s) to them here.
Thank you for your time! I intended to have this posted for a friend’s birthday, but halted work on it for the months that I was without a laptop. Final Space is over, but Quinn and Gary are forever for me.

Quillective. I know I'm annoying tonight. IDC. Listen.
So.. We know that Gary had a "Love at First Sight" ideal of Quinn when he met her, and that he ran into Mooncake and immediately took him in.
But like... It just occurred to me that Quinn and Mooncake learned everything that Gary wanted to say to another person at the same time when they bundled up and watched his transmissions together.
Quinn and Mooncake had bonding over Gary time and this the first time I'm mentioning it, but it'll be in my brain forever. Thank you for your time, Friends.

People who missed the way that Quinn was developed hate Black women and nobody is changing my mind about that.
i love quinn so much? her whole arc is so near and dear to my heart
She’s spent her whole Entire life blindly following a group of people she thought she could trust, and when she was proven that they werent trustworthy her whole world was destroyed. The infinity guard used her own information against her to the point where she felt like she couldn’t even trust her own mind anymore.
She rebuilds her whole world brick by brick. Her entire life she’s been looking at the big picture, avoiding details, thinking that the Earth is more important than anything in the universe. She cares more about a large group of total strangers than the people in her life who actively are trying to look out for her.
She’s so used to keeping people out of her close circle, keeping the people around her at a distance, that when Avocato and Gary and Mooncake all actually try to be close to her and look out for her best interests she doesn’t even believe them at first. It takes hearing it literally from her own mouth for her to believe that she needs to learn to stop repressing her feelings.
And once she does, she realizes just how much these people all care about her. I just!! i love her a lot and i hate seeing people reduce her arc to stereotypes.

It just trips me out how Quinn's mother abused her the way that she did and there was like a handful of people who said something about it and hardly any outcry for her sake.
Bitches really do not be caring about little Black girls, even in series. Because ain't nothing in the world Quinn done did that warrants how non-existent the sympathy for this child has been.

Thinking about Quinn Ergon having the pressure on her to guard her little sister, even at her own demise and how Ash thinks she's protecting Little Cato from the evil adults and she's actually adding to his trauma by ripping him from his home and family.
She don't respect Quinn, but that's probably the person who understands her the most right now and she gon' wind up probably hurt or killed for not knowing how to protect the ones she cares about.

Stop Playing in Quinn Face.
I'ma need everybody in here to stop acting like they didn't all unanimously agree to follow Quinn's advice.
Looking at you Avocato. Not her fault you a goddamn follower and have never had an individual fucking thought.
And Quinn, Girl. Like, why are you apologizing? They had the chance to leave just like Tribore nem and they didn’t, and they didn’t even tell you they were sick when you said y’all needed to stay and use the Kevin Net to destroy the titans. Speaking of... Nobody don’t give a fuck about the homie Kevin? He died tryna make this shit work and they was just like... Ain’t even mention bruh.
Okay, and once again everybody is following her plan enthusiastically and if it goes wrong I stg y'all better not be ganging up on her.
Well, I mean, after they just made her feel like shit for them having Final Space poisoning...
And like... IMO, THEY should have thought about this when they went to get the selenium for her implant. If she had been awake, she would have said to gather as much as they could in case somebody else gets it. She gotta do ALL the fucking big thinking?
And the rest of y’all... One dead Gary never saw his Quinn again, and the first thought wasn’t, “Damn, that’s sad that they were never reunited,” but “Oh, so Quinn never tried to look for him?” Y’all are bad at following stories I stg. I need everybody to take several hefty seats if the first conclusion you jump to is that. Gary is the first person to ever get somebody out of Final Space. As far as anybody else knew, including Nightfall, who had been on her mission for decades, nobody could get out. She was boutta DIE to get to Gary. Lol. Y’all some miserable haters. Shut up.

😞 @shslargue
so I recently rewatched chapter 17, and honestly one of the most tragic things about quinn/nightfall is that she literally just wants a normal life. like, one of her fondest memories is the boringest most basic date ever. all this woman wants is to kiss her boyfriend in the movie theater, but the universe won’t hecking let her

I really don't know what else to consider y'all but stupid when we watched the exact same show, with a whole two seasons of an alternate Quinn who had been fighting for Garys for decades not know of anybody ever being able to reconcile with somebody in Final Space and literally gave up her own life to make it possible for y'all to take up the tortured view of a Gary who did not get his Quinn back in that duration and settle on the thought that she never tried. I mean, what else word can we use for y'all. Y'all were there too, right? On the journey? Not trapped in Final Space with a Gary that doesn't know what's happening outside, but y'all went on the journey we went on right? Please, stop smoking dick.

BFCD Reviews by Nesha: Final Space, Season 3
Everybody that know me know that I’m high class #Quillective trash and my main thoughts and feelings go out to Quinn Ergon and Gary Goodspeed - precious Gemini gems, and of course the BABIES: Little Cato, Ash and Fox #NeshaLuhDaKids I had some attachment to Avocato once upon a time, but that n***a got on my LAST nerves this season, so we currently at “Do you, Boo” status by the end of S3, and eventually, yes, I’ma get to why that is.
Disclaimer for somebody who stumbled across this post because of the fandom tags - I am an independent partaker of this content, not “part of the fandom,” and my audience in particular is NOT for everybody. SO: If you may have been criticized in the past for casual racism, tone deafness to Black women’s concerns or accused of misogynoir or antiblackness, leave now.
If you don’t like cussing, AAVE, general ratchetness and mean lesbian energy, you too might wanna go. A bitch can be eloquent, but I type like I talk, at times, so it is what it is and I don’t curate for kids, dudes, or nonblacks. That’s just what that is.
I wanna start with Ash Graven. This season is about Ash more than anybody else, despite the fact that there was a lot of emphasis on Avocato’s toxic ass man pain and growth in Quinn and Gary’s relationship, ULTIMATELY, nobody in the crew did more coming into fruition as Ash did, and I have a lot to say about her, because I have a lot of feelings.
♡ Ash Graven
1. Ash is a kid. Lol. Everybody got very confused because of the unnecessary transformation that Invictus gave her. Ash did not “grow up,” her body was altered. That’s a fuckin kid in a woman’s body. A kid who has previously been living with survivor’s guilt, parental abuse/neglect/exploitation, chronic trauma, and a disastrous superpower that most people could not be trusted to carry. She’s a child having a coming of age moment in this season that is mostly molded in manipulation. If you hate on Ash, go fuck yourself. ESPECIALLY if I’ve caught you stanning other characters who have been shit characters, in this fandom or not. Ash was dealt a shit hand and nobody had her back but her brothers, and she’s done what she could and thought was best to care for them. Anybody that missed that - just don’t have kids, K.
2. Ash has no parental guidance. As far as she knows, the only adults who have ever had her back are dead and the ones that she’s stuck with now, she GAVE a chance to try to trust them. She gave Quinn a chance to try to see some of Nightfall (the only adult that we’ve seen not exploit her) in her. She gave Gary a chance by choosing him over Clarence, when she had to make a choice. She even gave Clarence’s ass another chance - with which he responded by dying to not fail her. Now, she has Gary, who just a few days or weeks ago, idek, forced her to try to summon her powers while she was both injured and also upset over having to leave her brother behind - TO SAVE HIS GIRLFRIEND! And she got snatched away in the process and left behind with the enemy, to be mentally assaulted and returned changed, only to have them not trust her.
I love Quinn too. I love her dearly. But the facts were that she was dying and having an episode that nobody could really help with, and Gary didn’t take the time or consideration to think about the stress that he was putting on Ash by putting her in the position to make her feel like she needed to save Quinn for him. Whether or not she was the only one who could, that is a lot to put on a child, and not only did he do it, but he didn’t even seem to think that hard about it whenever he then left her ass. Sure, he was glad when she was returned, but that was a fucked up situation that yet another adult put her into, and the first thing that he should have wanted to do when seeing her was to apologize and try to make it right. It was a huge miscalculation to treat her as a potential enemy that he and Avocato needed to vet. EVEN IF that’s what she was to them, both of them should have had the sense to assess while still treating her as the kid that they supposedly knew.
3. Most of her trauma has been recent and continuous. She looked up to Nightfall, watched her die, and had a meltdown. The events from Season 2 (with Clarence almost killing Fox and leaving him to die, her leaving his side to help out, seeing that Sheryl was treacherous to her own son, losing Nightfall), and the events that are taking place in Season 3 are only in the span of a few months.
They were only stranded for a month whenever we see them surviving together. That girl has had more happen to her to hurt her than to help her and nobody around her BUT Little Cato has been sensitive to that. And they are all fucking adults.
These things being noted - changing Ash’s design was the absolute worse fucking thing. Aging a girl up to make the bad things that follow more palatable is what that seems to be. Ash is still a kid. And THEN, they allegedly made her a queer kid. I say allegedly, because that “reveal” was so poorly done and subtle and weak that I, an almost 40 year old queer, didn’t realize that that’s what they meant whenever they said that they were gonna reveal somebody as a character who is part of the LGBT community.
So... FS production just gon’ decide not only to transform her body into that of a woman, when her mind is still full on traumatized child and hormonal teenager, but also, she likes girls, and they didn’t even do it in a cohesive way that added to the story. They threw it in, like, “BTW, she likes girls, and also, she’s full grown now.” then immediately went for the “Villain” lever, and bitches just ate that shit up. Fuck y’all, forreal.
& Fox
He didn’t deserve that shit. And, I know a lot of people felt that he was pointless and boring, but his ass was sweet and caring and searching for love and acceptance. As a background character, I liked him. But, he was literally just fodder for Ash’s downfall, which was unfair and problematic, considering that his ass is definitely Black coded. Don’t play. He was voiced by a Black man, spoke with a blaccent, and definitely would be read as Black if you wasn’t looking at him and seeing an alien. They gave him a sacrificial negro trope, the big friendly negro that can kill you but loves everybody trope, and they used his death to just push some narrative forward to set up the one verified queer character as a villain. They got they ass in a vehicle and rolled right over another Black character, and another queer character. Chile...
♡ Little Cato!!!
My precious have not been getting some good for too long, and I have had it. He’s not focused on so much this season as he is in the background of other people’s stories, but a very important takeaway is and will always be that Little Cato, aside from Fox, really was the only one here who consistently treated her like she mattered, so it made a lot of sense that he could be the catalyst for her finally having ENOUGH with these people.
I really wish that he could have found out the truth about his past from Avocato, because that’s really who OWED him that truth, but Ash did the thing that I’d expect and told him, to be honest with him. She even told him that Avocato wanted to tell him and that she took that right away from him, because she didn’t believe he deserved it, and I’m respecting her for that, too. I wish she could see how much it hurt Little Cato for her to try to take him away from his home.
Little Cato has lived before, for a while, and he’s not mature enough to behave as a man, but he at least has a loving foundation to draw from, and having had that support, this is more of his home than it is Ash’s. He doesn’t know how to explain that to her, and she doesn’t know how to understand that for him. Just a tragic situation for two kids with a lot of problems.
♡ Quinn Ergon & Gary Goodspeed
Quinnary notes that might not be featured in the BFCD Reviews by Nesha: (Quinn Ergon/Nightfall x Gary Goodspeed) rundown -
I've had two favorite parts of this season so far and they're very mediocre things that you wouldn't think would be like my favorite part but they are. One of them was that the first thing Gary does when she wakes up is to ask her about her sister (someone obviously very important to her who he's previously promised to allow to let live through Quinn's memory and says he wants to hear about her when he's trying to keep Quinn from dying). Because... He really did care and wasn't just saying something to keep her.
Quinn's mother fucked her up in a way that is so frustrating because Black mamas really will traumatize you about their younger kids. That shit hurt. You showed your daughter dead bodies to make her think about that in the event that your other daughter might be in battle? Bitch wtf
Whenever we say that Black girls are programmed to put everybody ahead of us, that's unfortunately not just including Society, it's in households too. And Quinn comes from this place where that is her reality... Then she meets Gary and he doesn't even register for her as anything special. He doesn't appear impressive or incredible in any way... But he (admittedly) weirdly locks on to her and shares himself - thinking that he's showing himself to her, and ultimately he DOES. And he wants to see her too, beyond all this, who she is, at her most humane. He wants to know about her sister. About someone who mattered to her enough to have the helm of her trauma when she was out of touch with reality. Very soft. Very sweet.
The other was when they were talking about how they met and stuff and Gary absolutely cringed thinking about how corny he was when he approached this woman. A lot of dudes never do that. The complaint of earlier seasons that Gary was overbearing, obsessive and creepy , if you missed the fact that he has terrible abandonment issues from his father’s death and his mother’s rejection, here we have him, in his adult state, looking back at the way he was and being embarrassed about it, and that’s growth!
A close third is whenever at the beginning of the Season he says "Quinn it's been a month eventually you have to open up to me about what you've been through" and she says "I will in time" and he respects it but he reiterates that he's there whenever she needs him. I don't think that people realize how revolutionary that kind of statement is especially for a character like Quinn to hear - who has always felt like she had to take charge, had to take the lead, had to make the sacrifice.
Even when she realized that she was dying, she didn't want to burden him with the information. Not even like ‘a thing that she knew if that could help prevent it and she didn't want him to have to go after it,’ but... she didn't even want him to have to deal with knowing about it!
Maybe she thought that she would just drop, maybe she didn't realize that he was going to have to see her in that condition. And then once she realized that he was going to have to see her in that condition one of the first things she says is "I should have told you." Girl is on her deathbed wishing she had done it differently, for Gary's benefit.
I saw somebody on Twitter tried to come for her about not going to Gary after he killed Fox (you know, shortly after her surgery to save her from the very brink of death, and listen... Quinn comes to see about Gary when she can. She’s done it several times. In fact, I’ma make a whole POST about Quinn and Gary moments SPECIFICALLY to point out to haters in the main tag - where they got Quinn Ergon, and by extension, me, FUCKED UP.
Stop Playing in Quinn Face
HI! HELLO. ACTUALLY MY FAVORITE PART OF THIS SEASON IS THAT QUINN AND GARY JUST FUCKED. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. THANKS. OK. Back 2 bidness
See.. after Gary and Quinn got over the humps of Quinn’s Final Space poisoning... everyone got it... nobody told her until Avocato was mad and told her during a lash out, and let me say something about Avocato’s fucking audacity this season...
♡ Avocato (Note: His name is A-V-O-C-A-T-O. Some of y’all be tryna stan and y’all can’t even spell his name.)
I done seent Avacata, Avocata... That’s not that dude name. Be writing whole ass expositions about some other Ventrexian n*gga. Hope this helps:
AVOCATO. Listen, boy. YOU decided to be a traitor to your people and your king and queen. YOU decided to dedicate your cause to the Lord Commander and lied to your son his entire life about killing his parents, raising him, and never talking to him about it.
Yet and STILL - whenever you had the chance to finally tell him, you ain’t do the shit. Lord Commander gave you the perfect ass opportunity - WHEN IT CAME UP, and even then, with that boy looking you dead in the face and being glad that now he knows everything... you ain’t Ventrexian man up.
Then, whenever you were supposed to be checking on Gary after his traumatic murder fight with Fox and Invictus, you turned it around and literally made it about you. attacking him in the process and only after a physical fight did you apologize. (And y’all still didn’t get back to what had happened to Gary, which was no real fault of his own).
Fast forward to after you willingly agreed to stay behind and fight and y’all lost. Now, it was Quinn’s turn to be the center of your blame and you lashed out at her because everybody is dying, despite the fact that y’all agreed to stay behind and fight, nobody even told her that y’all were sick, AND you still wasn’t 100 with Little Cato.
You just had a lot of mothafuckin audacity this season, Avocato, and I personally was not here for the shit. Even when Ash blasted yo ass, your main thought was to threaten to kill her if she took Little Cato, instead of assuring her that despite what you’ve done, Little Cato was safe with you. No, she wouldn’t have listened to you. But, the words you chose tell us about who you are and how you are. You a war mongering killer that don’t ever take responsibility for his shit, and even in those brief moments that you do, its always somebody else’s problem.
I’da thunk that LC getting snatched away would be humbling for you, but I guess you were chosen by the writers for minimal growth. Bye, Avocato. Witcha bitch ass. We is not cool right now, but you do you. Hope you find some growth up there in ya ass, where ya head been. 😁 Can’t believe I mourned yo ass. You coulda stayed dead as hell.
FINALE NOTES:
OK BITCH OK THIS FINALE WAS HYPE!
Let me pull it up so that I can liveblog it for the shit that I need to conclude this journey.
We start out after Ash done took Little Cato and burnt off. Gary and AVOCATO done said they finna go get they son. Chile, I cannot handle Biskit voice. I like that lil’ dude but ya voice, Mane. I can’t with it.
OK OK OK... Whenever Quinn comes up to Gary to talk to him and say potential goodbyes, she look like she wanna say some and that makes me think about whenever she looked like she wanted to say something in season 1 and didn’t. Quinn as grown a lot in her feelings for Gary, but she still has that hard time with talking about her feelings, but I love that you can see them in her face.
Chile... these folk was kinda taking they time gettin started, huh? Knuckas, do y’all remember that everybody finna die of FS poisoning? Lol. Also... why didn’t they start hallucinating and shit? I guess its not until it covers ya face?
NIGHTFALL. 😥 I love you, Sis. I miss you. But, “Because I’m you and WE think of everything...” YES. I HAVE BEEN SAYING THAT! EVERYBODY EXPECTS QUINN TO THINK OF EVERYTHING AND WHENEVER THEY DON’T THINK OF THE THINGS, SHE GETS BLAMED FOR MAKING THE TOUGH DECISIONS THAT NOBODY ELSE COULD EVEN MAKE. Underappreciated, really. And people still mark Nightfall as a villain, despite the fact that she not only sacrificed herself, but also came specifically to help another Gary. Sidenote - Nightfall didn’t actually pursuit Quinn’s Gary until Quinn was trapped in Final Space and she thought she got a signal from him. So, I’m still salty AF that she been labelled as a villain just because people don’t like her, when her actions have all been to try to help. Here is no difference. She thought of the things that she didn’t think a younger version of her would think of, and left it for Quinn to find. Nightfall be on RNS, and most of y’all didn’t deserve her.
Quinn’s identity crisis is so sad, but I liked that Nightfall EVEN thought about that. And Sheryl... you kinda starting to grow on me. I hate to give shitty mothers who find compassion in old chance a try, but she do seem to really be giving it a go.
Ash is so fucked up that she rushes right into the devil’s arms. This reminds me of when trafficking victims go back to their abusers because they don’t have the resources to adjust in the system. 😪 She REALLY believes what she’s saying. She really feels like Little Cato is safer with Invictus with the Team Squad. That’s sad as fuck, bruh.
THE. ACTING. AND. ARTWORK. IN. THIS. CONFRONTATION. SCENE.
Avocato... I’m proud of you for FINALLY taking responsibility ad opening up about it. Little Cato’s reaction is precisely how kids in the system are, as well. They wanna be at home with their parents, no matter who their parents are or what they’ve done. and Avocato meant what he said and did what I referred to earlier as “Ventraxian man up.”
“I’m sorry we failed you,” from Gary was so important. Because, they technically did fail her. Had Ash seen the same amount of love from Gary as she’s seen him give to others, she might have been more receptive to the truth and less susceptible to lies. But, as she had just said earlier, it was too late for kind words. She’s currently beyond accepting them from him. For a brief moment, it breaks through, but without that ability to know love from an adult properly, she can’t accept that apology right now.
H.U.E. with his big robot, Lord Commander...EYE. There’s so much happening right now bitch processing has left the room girl. Biskit did so damn much this episode. And it was good to see everybody on the team have a moment to help things, instead of like one person having to handle the bulk of things.
Quinn’s begging voice... its such a contrast from whenever she sent out the SOS in season 1 and was afraid and angry. Like... the desperation here shows her softness.
Ash’s RAGE Bitch...
Gary’s “I love you...” She looked so happy! And then she just sat with it. I feel like she definitely loves him too, but she doesn’t communicate that way. But, her FACE. She was just... did she think that he didn’t before, or was she just speechless because she didn’t expect to hear it? Because, we gotta be real... Sis probably has not ever heard those words from anybody before. And that first time, when it’s really there is a DOOZIE. She had an abusive mother, a seemingly jealous or competitive sister, and we saw how nobody in the Infinity Guard respected her ass when she was serving them the real. I think this is the first time she’s been in love or felt it and when Gary said it, she had to collect herself. The way she ran to him and jumped into his arms??? SHIPPING CRACK. And Mooncake was a part of their hug too. I have a lot of feelings about this dynamic since Quinn and Mooncake are the only characters that we’ve seen Gary have these “love at first sight” reactions to and Mooncake is the first character that I recall Quinn being nice to in S1.
So.. my heart was very full when they ripped it from my chest moments later. Mooncake has been watching Team Squad members be self sacrificing for a little while now, and he loves his family and Gary so much that he rushes straight towards danger. (Sure, I don’t think that he estimated how powerful Ash could be at this moment), but he had to at least consider that he might be caught or left behind.
Bitch, Ash is GONE. She said, “Fuck all y’all!” Not knowing whether or not Mooncake is destroyed makes it very hard for me to know how much I can stand this, but I also want to hope that he is gonna survive. Quinn having to make the decision to lightfold is hella sad, but even though Gary is destroyed, he has to know that this is exactly how Ash must’ve felt whenever he had to make the call to leave Fox behind. She hated to do that to Gary. She even seemed more regretful about it than Gary did whenever he had to leave Fox and when he left Ash. Sure, its because she loves him more than he loved Fox and Ash, but its a terrible position to be in to have to hurt somebody you love like that. On the other hand, they gave her hella shit for them not escaping when could have the first time, so naturally, she was going to make this decision.
It very much sucks that Invictus is free and my brain can’t eeem FATHOM what that means for everything and everybody, but the Final Space poisoning left the Team Squad’s system, so maybe there is a rejuvenation of some sort in Invictus’ power? Or does Final Space poisoning leave your system as soon as you leave Final Space? I don’t think that was clarified.
Anyways, I still don’t hate Ash. Y’all can say whatever about it, but I see sad white boys get forgiven all day every day on this site, and I’m upset, but I’m not letting my baby go. I’m not cheering her on, but unless she dies, I’m gonna hope for the best for her, like I said here.
DAMN this season was some shit. Ionknow if I’m emotionally capable of watching another season of Final Space in progress. If they make it back for another season, I will most likely just wait until the end to dive in and let them shock my senses all at once instead of on a weekly goddamn basis, because GODDAMN GODDAMN GODDDAMN!
@andromidagalaxie @daintyurbanprincess @shslargue @space-finally The Quinnary Moments Masterlist probably won’t be ready by Quinn’s birthday, since her birthday is the day before Juneteenth, but I’ve started on a little fic that I might have the first installment of posted by then. We shall see.

BFCD Reviews by Nesha: (Quinn Ergon/Nightfall x Gary Goodspeed) FINAL SPACE
NOBODY:
Me to Me: Why don't you break your own heart for no reason at all?
Don't. Mind. If. I. Do.
I remember seeing something where the Creator had tweeted that Quinn is the hero of the story but we're looking at the story through Gary's lens. So cute. At any rate, I have a lot of feelings about Quinn, a lot of feelings about her relationship with Gary, and a lot of time to air them out.
@andomidagalaxie and @daintyurbanprincess who got me into this fandom @space-finally who greeted me as soon as I arrived, as a long time member of the fandom @shslargue who I dragged in with me
I decided to post this on Gary’s birthday. The Season 3 Review will be created after the finale, in case there’s stuff in it that I need to voice, and the Quinnary Moments Masterlist, I’m aiming to complete by Quinn’s birthday on the 20th.
♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
Whenever we first see Quinn, she’s an untrusting person who tends to focus more on facts and results than emotions. (I really love the cute way that she looks at Tribore in the opening sequence). She is focused on problems and solutions and doesn’t seem to have time for anything else. She even tells us pretty early on that she doesn’t trust anybody, aside from the Infinity Guard (which she most likely has only been trained to believe in).
Gary is completely the opposite. He’s the type to feel like he’s in love the first time he sees someone. The type to find an alien lifeform that he knows nothing about and take them in. The type to bond over playing cards with a prisoner who attacked his ship and certify an eternal bond through a handshake. Their paths don’t seem likely to be compatible, unless you’re an optimist who favors opposites attracting.
But, the longer that they know each other, they become a bit symbiotic. Oddly enough, given the idea that Quinn is the hero of the story, she actually comes through as a damsel in distress at times, benefitting from, if not necessarily needing Gary’s help, and at other times, she literally would have died had he not been there and willing to help her. (This applies both to our Gary and Nightfall’s Gary in her time loop where he always dies).
So you know how Nightfall told them that she’d seen Gary died hundreds of times, that she's trying to stop it hundreds of times and every time Gary winds up dead no matter what decision she makes...
If Quinn had lived to become Nightfall.. (because we know she's a different Quinn because they have different histories), but if she did somehow wind up becoming that person she would have already lived among all of those dead Gary's and then also in the future seen all of those Gary's die.
I wonder what her Gary's home life was like. He was in the Infinity Guard when they met, But he was just as quick to fall. Like Sir.. the day y'all met, bumping into her was “the best thing that happened to you?” 🤣
Meeting Quinn for the first time: Here, we have this woman, who was so focused on her job, so focused on this saving the world just because she believed in saving the world. (She wasn't trying to be famous. She wasn't like trying to move up in ranks. She literally just wanted to make sure that Earth was safe), but she gave her life - not for Earth because that was already gone, and not for the same people she gave her life/dedication to when she was in the Infinity Guard, because they had already lost her trust, but she did it to save GARY. She SAID the words, “We couldn't save Earth but I can still save you...”
♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
That's why some of the criticism for the ship and the assessment of the characters stink of prejudice.
Quinn: Gets saved by Gary multiple times, asks him why he has feelings for her and receives an answer, watches the entire catalog of him connecting with her via vlog, decides to trust him, sees him love and care for his friends consistently, fights alongside him for however long and STILL gives him a “hard maybe” on dating, almost dies in his arms...
Haters: There was literally no reason whatsoever for them to eventually get together, they have nothing in common, their feelings are fake and unrealistic because they thought that they were gonna die, they started out bad and problematic (like enemies to lovers tropes, or a plethora of other angry character meets sunshine character don’t?)
To people who say that their relationship was based on nothing or came out of nowhere: After bunches and bunches of adventures, deaths, losses, small victories, gradual realizations... I mean... As far as ships are concerned, they've gone through a lot more than A LOT of ships that are popular have. Ships with far less likable people in them have done far less and had more support!!! And, I’m willing to bet that YOU even have a ship in your shipping catalog that has been given even less that you managed to ship JUST FINE on a hope and a prayer. I’m also willing to bet a Black girl wasn’t there and if she was, she was probably relegated as a tool for the other portion of the ship. I don’t have to prove nothing. You just think about it when you go down your little list.
Ultimately, the thing that gets her to acknowledge him and to see that there's more to him was her watching his video journals.
Mind you, this was AFTER she’d decided to trust him and wound up tied to a chair (because she disagreed with saving ONE life instead of saving the planet - WHICH IS FUCKING RIDICULOUS AND WHETHER OR NOT YOU LOVE LITTLE CATO, THAT IS FUCKING RIDICULOUS AND MOST LIKELY WHY TF THEY COULDN’T SAVE EARTH IN TIME!).
She chose to give him another chance based upon seeing his videos and at the moment that he made a declaration through that incoming message, she CHOSE to help him! Not to leave, as she still could have and go on her mission, but to go help Gary. She helps the others in the process, but Quinn almost never asks about anybody’s status BUT Gary’s. But, people have insinuated that she doesn’t care about him or that she never considers him in season 1. That’s bullshit. They have moments sprinkled all throughout Season 1, and they begin with her watching these transmissions.
The "nothing in common" argument... Who THEE FUCK has something in common with Gary Goodspeed? Whomst? He's a fucking weirdo. Lol. 😤 Who finna "have things in common" with him? And WHY would not doing so mean they can't love each other? So, critics who claim this have never liked anyone who they had nothing in common with? Hell, sometimes, THAT’S the appeal. Opposites attracts is a common trope that people love so much, until one of the opposites is a Black woman. Argue with ya mama.
Don't. EVEN get me started on the idea that their feelings aren't real or are less valid because their experiences are all trauma bonding... Some of y'all need to be oppressed, and I mean that with all my heart, because you deserve it for growth and stimulation, since your current self is a basic bitch. Do y'all realize the day to day trauma, trials, tribulations, trouble that marginalized people have just to survive? Okay. So just because they're in a dangerous situation, and a bad environment their emotions aren't valid or worth support?
So those of us who grew up in the hood, people who have been impoverished our entire lives, people who see people like them executed regularly by laws and practices, people who have short ass life expectancy from all of the ingrained enmity in the system (lgbtq folk, especially those of color like Black trans women, as well as other identities like disabled folk and mentally ill, who are often not relatable in general) - I guess our traumatized asses shouldn't be allowed feelings of love and connection either, since it's just trauma bonding of us connecting while in distress or in a harmful environment?
Shut up. Y'all need to get dick slapped.
Love born in dire situations is not less valid because YOU have been privileged enough to fall in love when everything is great or at least comfortable. In fact, people in situations like ongoing war and such should be given even more grace to love freely and find joy in the company of someone else. IN FACT, ANYONE that Gary or Quinn would fall for would be in the SAME circumstances, so how is it not real with Quinn when most of you bitches DO have other ships IN this universe? The whole fucking universe is a warzone, Becky. The whole thing.
When @space-finally said that Y’all will complain about any and everything, no matter what direction they go in, she was right.
The relationship HAS very many problematic areas, but they are problematic areas that couples all over fandoms have had and have been allowed to have, by accepting fandoms for decades, and the challenge and the upside is that they’ve gotten PASSED those things. The appeal is that they have moved beyond those issues. You know what that’s called? Growth!
♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
Season 1
Gave us a journey of two strangers who traveled alongside each other until their journey led to confluence like the Meeting of Waters, and was abruptly ended when they only seemed to JUST be connecting to each other in a meaningful way. BUT, by that time, Quinn had chosen to trust Gary, had noticed feelings for him, and she decided to depart from him to save him. That was already love, idgaf what anybody says. She condemned herself to final space in order to save Gary. We saw Quinn become a little more like Gary.
And I appreciate that ultimately, he changed things about himself that needed work, but he never pretended to be someone else. He actually grew and still decided that he wanted her and didn't come back to asking her out again until it looked like death was imminent
She agreed to go on a date with him because he told her what he liked about her (that she was everything he's not) and whenever she was like... Okay, but that's good tho, right and he said something about love being messy and imperfect... And she agreed to go on a date with him.
Whenever death was not as imminent, but definitely impending, SHE brought the subject back up.
When she thought she was in her very last moments, she threw her arms around him. Like... It wasn't the one sided, "Well, I might as well say yes to be nice since we bout to get executed" that people make it out to be.
Season 2
Gave us Gary doing whatever he could in order to find Quinn, after realizing that she must still be alive when he reunited with Nightfall. (Before then, I can only guess that Gary had presumed that Quinn was dead), but the moment that he suspected she was alive, she became his focus.
I'm never going to be able to shake that thought of her being surrounded by all those dead Gary's for however long she was stuck there.
When Quinn said, "I tried to warn you," I'm immediately thinking that in her brain she was thinking “if I don't stop him from coming here he's going to be one of these dead Garys. I'm going to have to actually see my Gary dead with all these other Garys.”
And what could she possibly have done to been able to get a transmission out of final space? Like nobody's ever gotten a transmission out of final space and she was so determined to warn Gary not to come there that she got a transmission out! She was alone and trapped, surrounded by the dead bodies of other versions of Gary and she STILL was more willing to remain there than to risk losing her Gary to the same fate.
Overall, Season 2 gave us the journey back to Quinn.
Season 3
Gave us Gary’s journey in loving Quinn. Nightfall told him, “When you find Quinn, never let go,” and this season encompassed Gary taking that advice to heart. We see Gary become a little more like Quinn.
The criticism with Gary and his relationship with Quinn this season has been that he has tunnel vision and doesn’t care about anyone or anything else but Quinn.
I will actually give y’all that to a certain degree.
Because I hated to see Fox get left behind, even though I definitely could see why he would have to. Gary was right when he said that if they stayed, they all would die. This was something that Gary doesn’t generally do. In fact, in the past, Gary tried to always do whatever was best for everybody, thinking that he could accomplish everything for all of his friends.
But, in previous situations, that had lost him Quinn’s trust at least once, and ultimately, he’d lost Quinn, technically TWICE, (because even though he didn’t have the same feelings for Nightfall, he cared about her very much, and did see his Quinn in her at times). In this season, Gary does not want to ever be in the position to lose Quinn again!
Tunnel Vision Gary was very close to true, but not necessarily a bad thing, as far as shipping goes. Another popular trope in shipping is whenever they’ll do anything for each other, and we see a lot of this from both of them in S3.
Where he DID have me fucked up was how he did Ash. It felt like he put that young lady on the chopping block to save Quinn, and even though I know it was a situation that most likely only Ash COULD help, but for him to actually burden her with that, especially given what she had been through was unfair and he didn’t even seem to give it much of a thought. Now... arguably, Gary just didn’t have the time it would have taken him to be kinder, more gentle, or attentive to Ash’s needs and also save Quinn. But, that definitely doesn’t justify it.
The dynamic between Gary and Quinn in this season was all about Gary trying to save Quinn again, but this time, she’s right there. It’s oftentimes much easier to love our image of a person or our memory of a person, because we get to mold those to our will. The love is in our imagination and subject to our wildest dreams. In real life, people are different.
This is the first time that Gary and Quinn get to even explore their emotions for each other together, and in the background: complete and utter chaos. Violence, illness, destruction and death. It is so realistic to not be able to focus on each other (something that I noticed people were upset about), and I definitely agree that the writers were being purposefully rude by not even letting them kiss in front of us - but I think that the added opposition makes for their connection to each other that more real for me, because they didn’t completely neglect their responsibilities so much as try to prioritize their newfound relationship and juggle their ongoing adversity.
I INTERRUPT THIS TO ANNOUNCE THAT QUINN AND GARY DONE FUCKED GIRL! ASDFGHKJKLKKLLLSSSS!!!
Ok. I’m okay. I’m alright.
Alright. NOW, with that being said and understood, reiterating my previous stance, and adding on to it, because Quinn got SO. MUCH. SHIT. From you busted bitches this season - Ms. Ergon had things going on and she still was on her grown woman shit to save as many people as she could. She’s already sacrificed herself, not knowing that she would ever make it out (side note, everybody who subscribed to the idea that Quinn would abandon Gary in Final Space, instead of realistically presuming that she just couldn’t reach him? Chile, fuck you.)
In this season alone, Quinn went from thinking that maybe she was dreaming that Gary was there for her, to lamenting because “I told you not to come here,” to being rescued but stranded for another month (with ALL of the people she knows stranded with her), to finding out that she didn’t have long to live, but wanting to make the best of it with Gary, to a mental collapse drudging up her most traumatic moments, to her death bed, and as soon as she was rescued, Gary had to kill someone he cared about and alienate another. And, only after that did they even have moments just to even touch, much less anything else.
But, they went ahead and made the time... and then the man’s son got taken by a very troubled girl!
There was no reason that all of that shouldn’t have made them ready to just give up - on multiple occasions. Whether or not you buy the destiny angle or as the fandoms call it “soul mates” trope...
What they did sell me was a perfectly sound love story for the perfectly unsound conditions of the universe that the characters live in. And if you missed it, I sympathize, because they didn’t give me everything I could ask for, but what they did give me was a ship that I could sail into oblivion on. Until the Titans snatch Earth into Final Space.

I was confused about this as well. Like, whenever Avocato told her, I was presuming that maybe he had it and in turn figured out that the others did... But like they knew so I was like???
I feel like it was one thing for Quinn to hide her final space poisoning from the crew because she knew she was already passed the point of recovery and she didn’t want to burden Gary with the grief of watching her die. She had already accepted her death at that point and she just wanted to enjoy her final hours with Gary in ignorant bliss. Plus, even if they hadn’t been able to cure her in time at least Gary would have still had Avacado, Little Cato, his mom, and Ash. He wouldn’t have been alone. But it’s on a whole other fucked up level for the whole crew to keep their space poisoning from Quinn?? What was the thought process in that? What did they expect to happen when they all started hallucinating and dying?? Quinn is literally one person and they would have left her alone to deal with that???

It's not even true. She's shown soft. She's shown caring. She's shown having humanity and being concerned about others and you know what. Let me shut up. It'll be addressed in my report. Lol. These people never just say that they hate Black women and can't dissect their characters because they don't perceive them as human, and then go. Because that's all that they reveal whenever they admit that THEY MISSED all the other aspects of the character's personality and walked away with "angry" like that's a new word for Black female characters.
My problem with how Final Space’s Quinn Airgon is written, is that she’s a badass, but that’s it
In almost every scene she’s in, she is angry and badass. The problem with this is that it doesn’t make her very relatable, nor does it make her a well-rounded character
When I watched though the show, I noticed that Quinn doesn’t have a single character flaw. She’s never allowed to make mistakes. The closest thing is that she puts too much trust in the Infinity Guard and that stabs her in the back, but it’s so little and falls too flat. There’s also the ‘’problem’’ that is only set up to be resolved that she doesn’t trust the people around her, but that just comes and goes as quick as that
This is a problem with people writing female characters that they need to be so badass and intelligent that there’s no room for mistakes at all, but that makes the character more of an angry robot than a character - It just doesn’t feel like a dynamic person
(Also don’t get me started on how her falling in love with Gary makes no sense and is super forced)

I've read her as a different Nightfall since Quinn's sacrifice. Because that Nightfall didn't ever close the barrier, she told Gary. It was always him. So this Quinn changed the trajectory of being *that Nightfall. Whatever happened in her timeline, or in any of the times she went back, she admittedly was never actually this particular Quinn. I also think that she had never died before since she didn't have a bunch of FS corpses.
Basically, they're different people to me unless the show gives me something to indicate different aside from an implant that Quinn had to get for an obviously different reason than whyever Nightfall had to.
So with all this stuff about "will Quinn turn into Nightfall", I'm reminded of what Nightfall says in Ch.11, that "the cycle" begins again. Is she not just talking about the times SHE specifically has killed him, but that every time a "new Nightfall" takes her place?
And since Quinn is "Nightfall--kind of, but not exactly", does that mean that there've been very many, slightly-different each time Nightfalls over hundreds of "cycles."
Episode 10, "Until the Sky Falls" is supposed to focus on Quinn and Gary, and the name hints towards Nightfall. Maybe that's when it'll come up?
And thinking of the process as a "cycle", really makes her name kind of poetic. Night falls at the end of every single day, over and over again, forever.
