it’s possible that Trilby might still be one running the ministry while Nicholas Fisk is someone else entirely, possibly somehow related to Trilby. Either brother, cousin, best friend, lover, whichever could be. We both know in the tropes that Elizabeth has a habit lying to hide the truth, so we don’t know what’s true or not. We might find out in the later in the next book. All I can say is that Alison is unknowingly playing a game of chess and it will unravel the veil that is hidden. But we’ll see where the story goes from here…
I am so genuinely interested in where the story will go from here. The thing is, I wouldn't even be mad if it took like 2-4 more books for us to get more 'main plot' and figuring out where and how Trilby is involved. I love all the characters involved so I don't want Adam, Victor, Alison, and Nita to get rushed along so Chzo Mythos fans can get their Trilby fix. But at the same time, there are soooo many mysteries that need solving.
I feel like Diablerie's controller referring to himself as 'the thief' makes me confident he really is actually Trilby, and isn't a fakeout, but I also wouldn't be willing to stake my life on it lol.
On the one hand, I hope Alison starts figuring things out and is able to use the power she's tripped her way into having. But she's so young and unstable, I wouldn't be surprised if her failure leads to something awful. Given how awful Elizabeth can be when Diablerie is involved, and the mysterious nature of the thief's true plans, it's very possible that Alison will find herself opposed to both of them while simultaneously working for both of them.
But I also think that we're never going to get anything like the Trilby clones in book form, and the DEDA Files are cozy tea mysteries at their core, not horror games distributed to the internet, so it's very likely that the 'stakes' or the highest highs of the DEDA Files will never get to what the Chzo Mythos had.
#i distracted myself from the jacques mckeown novels' mysteries by diving into a series with MORE mysteries#and unknown characters identities that are crucial to the plot#very bad choice on my part!

Not to be really annoying and go ‘well actually’ to the joke about how silcos a twink who probably didn’t do shit in the mines and that miners all look like vander and are these big buff burly dudes is very much some propaganda in ur brain and not the reality of what conditions are like for miners from impoverished communities. You know they use children in mines bc they’re small right. If you’ve consumed any footage showing messed up mining communities that exists irl, like people who work in cobalt mines in Congo, they’re muscular, but at a glance, they’re not jacked and look pretty average. I think a lot of people are surprised seeing that they tend to be small and lanky for people doing hard manual labor all day, but that comes from not being able to afford enough quality food. You have to eat a ton of calories to get built, and that isn’t something many people who work in mines have.
#in this essay I would like to posit the theory that part of why silco became a crueler revolutionary than vander is#bc he experienced a more impoverished up bringing while vander had access to secure food and shelter#and that experience radicalized him more#I know it’s not real and it doesn’t matter BUT HEAR ME OUT the experience of being in an inherently weaker body created by the material#conditions living in an apartheid state where you’re forced into manual labor is a VERY INTERESTING characterization for your villain so#I love a villain who ends up evils bc really after a certain amount of bullshit they have no choice#which isn’t to say they’re right but serves to show how bad the system is#thank you for coming to my Ted talk#arcane#silco#vander#personal

Wei Wuxian and Narrative Agency – Part Three
For Xiantober Day Five: Past and Present, in which the author gets very unhinged about what parts of the past are shown and how that’s affected by the present!
(Part One | Part Two | Full version on AO3)
The Power of Agency: Shaping the Narrative
When I've discussed Wei Wuxian's agency previously, I’ve talked about how what’s shown and omitted tells us about a character, and we’ve talked about the character himself. Though this is a niche topic, it’s not necessarily something out of the ordinary to analyse, and we can assume everything up to here has been in some way intentional.
This? Linking structure to a character’s in-universe preferences?
This is where we get unhinged.
Before I start, let’s quickly establish something which will be important later: although Wei Wuxian is the central character, MDZS isn’t strictly from his POV. While omitting events a character doesn’t like to dwell on and concealing things the character wishes to hide is common in books with only one narrator, MDZS has multiple narrators which it switches between relatively quickly. This includes Wei Wuxian, but it also includes nearly every major character that appears in the story, and omniscient narrator as well. As a default, this format doesn’t lead to this deliberate shaping and omission because of one character’s preferences, since we have many other sources of information and events – which is what makes Wei Wuxian’s influence over the narrative and structure so interesting. We could have access to a lot more information, and access to it at different times, than we do (and that’s not an insult, quite the opposite!).
To begin: we’ve established that times such as Wei Wuxian’s time on the streets, his three months in the Burial Mounds and his loss in the Siege aren’t shown because Wei Wuxian has little agency there. But that’s not the only special thing about them. They’re also the three most traumatic times in his life, and so moments Wei Wuxian himself either can’t remember, or doesn’t like to dwell on.
This is why discussing Wei Wuxian’s treatment of tragedy in his life was important. Firstly, it shows he doesn’t focus on the tragedy in his life, so the idea that the narrative not focusing on this tragedy relates to his character has merit; secondly, it affirms that this is not a passive trait, but a choice. Therefore, when the narrative omits events due to this aspect of Wei Wuxian, it’s respecting not only a character detail – which would be cool by itself – but also an active decision. One that shapes the story it’s made in.
In other words, its very structure is respecting Wei Wuxian’s agency!
Now, of course there are flashbacks to other moments of his past he probably wouldn’t like to dwell on, too. But within the structure, they’re only shown when Wei Wuxian is thinking about them (or when he has reason to)!
Wei WuXian hadn’t woken up yet. His eyes were still tightly shut, yet his hand didn’t let go either. He seemed to be dreaming, muttering, “… Don’t… Don’t be angry…” Lan WangJi seemed somewhat surprised. His voice was gentle, “I am not angry.” Wei WuXian, “… Oh.” Hearing this, as though he finally felt assured, his fingers loosened. Lan WangJi sat beside Wei WuXian for a while. Seeing that he was motionless again, he was about to stand up when Wei WuXian grabbed him with his other hand, hugging his arm and refusing to let go. He shouted, “I’ll go with you, quick, take me back to your sect!” Chapter 63, EXR translation
Which, of course, is him dwelling on…
Lan WangJi spoke one word at a time, “Go back to Gusu with me.” Hearing this, both Wei WuXian and Jiang Cheng were surprised. Quickly afterward, Wei WuXian laughed, “Go back to Gusu with you? To the Cloud Recesses? Why go there?” He immediately seemed to realize, “Oh. I forgot. Your uncle Lan QiRen hates crooked people like me. You’re his proudest disciple, so of course you’re the same as him, haha. I refuse.” Chapter 62, EXR translation
…the painful flashback immediately preceding this. The third set of flashbacks (which are also painful) are a similar case. Look at the contex:
He lifted the bottom of his robe, revealing a prosthetic leg made of wood, “This leg of mine was destroyed by you, that night in the Nightless City (…)” (…) “Wei WuXian, I won’t ask you if you remember or not. Both of my parents died by your hands. You owe too many people. You definitely won’t remember them either. But, I, Fang MengChen, will never forget! And never forgive you!” (…) “In the fight at Qiongqi Path, my son was strangled to death by your dog Wen Ning!” “My shixiong died by poison, his entire body festering due to your cruel curse!” Chapter 68 (immediately preceding the flashbacks), EXR translation
And Wei Wuxian’s own thoughts and words:
Wei WuXian looked at the cultivators before the Demon-Slaughtering Cave. Their expressions were the absolute same as those of the cultivators from the night of the pledge conference, pouring their wine on the ground as they took the pledge to scatter the ashes of the Wen Sect’s remnants and him. (…) Wei WuXian, “Now it’s time to ask just whom it is that treasures it so much. It’s like Wen Ning. Back then, some certain sects or so were scared to death of the Ghost General. They said they’d kill him on the surface, but behind their backs they hid him for over ten years. How strange. Who was the one that said his ashes had been scattered back then?” Chapter 79 (immediately succeeding the flashbacks), EXR translation
Once again, Wei Wuxian’s own thoughts relate to the flashbacks we’ve just been shown. And, as I previously mentioned, though all the events which are shown are tragic, they’re also events which Wei Wuxian’s own choices and actions shaped – which he has this to say about:
“The things I did, not only do you remember them, I remember them too. You won’t forget them, and they’ll stay even longer in my mind!” Chapter 82, EXR
Admittedly, this applies more to the third set of flashbacks than the second (which is still fitting as the third set was the most recent), as in the second, although he still had agency within and influence over his circumstances, the majority of the pain was caused by others’ actions (excluding, of course, the Golden Core transfer… which is something we know stays for a long time in his mind, albeit with a caveat we’ll soon discuss). But it’s still important to note – especially considering that otherwise, focusing on this very painful time in his life wouldn’t seem like something very in-character for Wei Wuxian to do.
Of course, this can all just be explained by good writing. It is best to insert flashbacks when they’re relevant to the characters and events in the present day! But it is interesting to compare these to the start of the (not painful) Gusu flashbacks, which open this way:
At a later time, Wei WuXian pondered upon the reason why his relationship with Lan WangJi wasn’t good. Getting to the root of the matter, everything started when he was fifteen, coming to the GusuLan Sect with Jiang Cheng to study for three months. Chapter 13, EXR
Again, considering the circumstances around which these flashbacks take place – returning to the Cloud Recesses for the first time since the lectures, and meeting Lan Wangji once more – it makes complete sense for Wei Wuxian to be thinking about these events*. So it does fit the pattern of Wei Wuxian dwelling on something, thus leading to the narrative dwelling on it, too (and being shaped by his thoughts)… but there’s another layer to this. Importantly, it is the only flashback where Wei Wuxian’s present thoughts don’t lead to this happening, with his thoughts at an unspecified future time leading to it, instead. I like to interpret this as the text saying that, since these events aren’t something Wei Wuxian wouldn’t focus on in normal circumstances, he can dwell on them at any time. Therefore, they’re free to come up in the narrative at any time as well, even if he’s not dwelling on them in the present moment!
So, to summarise: Wei Wuxian’s decision not to focus on the painful times in his life directly influences the narrative to not focus on these times. When painful times are brought up and shown to us, it’s in the context of him thinking about them in the present day, and even then, his most painful moments still aren’t shown to us. His agency in this regard is still respected by the narrative structure.
This is the main way his agency influences the structure of the narrative, but I’d like to talk about the revealing and concealing of information, too. For example, I said I’d talk about the Golden Core transfer – though Wei Wuxian does think about this many times, as evidenced by his internal narration in Chapter 103. But unlike everything we’re shown through the flashbacks, this is something Wei Wuxian is actively trying to hide from others. And the narrative respects this choice (Wei Wuxian’s agency, again), never reveals it even when it would be relevant in the flashbacks, and we find out not through narration, but through a character’s dialogue!
And to clarify – I know these aspects may not be in the book for this exact reason. Showing flashbacks in relevant moments is good writing, concealing an important plot point you want to do a reveal for is necessary writing, and MXTX has said she didn’t want to write about Wei Wuxian’s time in the Burial Mounds, due to not liking to write transformation sequences (and also because it would not be pleasant at all, which likely also applies to Wei Wuxian’s death). That doesn’t prevent it from also being intentional – MXTX’s intelligence is shown in many aspects of this book, and there’s nothing disproving it – but there’s no proof for either option, so I won’t pretend there is. I bring this up because I know this feels like I’m overanalysing, as I feel that way as well.
But, whether it’s intentional or not, it exists in the text, and I adore it – so, regardless, it’s something I’ll explore. Because taking this into account… We aren't just told about Wei Wuxian having agency, we aren’t just shown it in the text, we aren’t even just shown it through which parts of his past are shown and hidden in the structure of the text (as I talked about in Part One). The parts of the past that are shown and hidden also have an in-universe reason for being shown and hidden, this reason being the choices he makes! Agency is the ability of a character to influence the story they’re in, but Wei Wuxian’s agency, as a property of a character who only exists in-universe, shapes the out-of-universe structure as well! That’s how we’re shown its importance! How cool is that?
At The End Of The Road: Summary and Final Thoughts
In this essay, we’ve covered how important Wei Wuxian’s agency is not only to the events of the plot, but to the structure of the narrative as well. The narrative omits periods in which Wei Wuxian has little or no agency, in favour of showing us periods in which he does, even when important events happened in the former. This indicates that who Wei Wuxian is without agency isn’t important enough to be shown to the audience, and therefore that his agency is an integral aspect of his character in MDZS. We’ve discussed how both in-universe and out-of-universe, tragedy does not define him – out-of-universe, the tragic events in Wei Wuxian’s life are used not to build sympathy but rather to show his strength of character and who he still is despite going through them; and in-universe, he chooses not to focus on the negativity and resentment caused by his circumstances or others’ actions, instead staying true to his moral compass and enjoying his life in the present day. Finally, we’ve also explored how this choice is another reason for the omission of certain events from the narrative, resulting in his agency shaping the story in a very literal way – it affects the out-of-universe structure, as well.
It’s quite fitting, for a story whose essence is about defying a conventional narrative – that of righteous clans rising up and defeating a great evil – and about a character who defies many conventional narratives on his own – that of status defining how skilled you could be, that for a golden core being necessary for cultivation and other paths being unavailable, that of a tragic but complete story of someone killed for staying true to their moral code (instead, that character returns to life and has a happy ending) – to have its own narrative play a role in such an important and interesting way.
(Or, if an image would be preferable:)
Thank you for reading!

*This strong relation to the present day circumstances is another reason I love the flashback placement so much (and why I think it’s such a loss both screen adaptions altered it so strongly)!

not to mention the entire antaam fleet like 😭 that was the PERFECT moment to show off what the lords could do!!! The antaam fucked over rivain, theyve been a thorn in the whole nations side for a long time now, they would not pass up a chance for payback via full scale naval warfare so that the veilguard can do what they need to!! Sure dreadnoughts are dangerous but at this point they probably have tricks up their sleeve, thats one of the few things they have!
also wouldn't it be personal because does solas not try to blow up kont-aar because he's trying to 5d chess tevinter and the qunari into destroying each other. like. i know technically this would not be incredible widespread news because the attack was stopped, but i don't think the wonderful citizens of kont-aar would have missed the tsunami that nearly hit them and the shockwave that actually hit them. rumors go around. and i assume irian/vadis tell varric. who i think would tell isabela. who would tell the group she leads. who would care because ofc, they LIVE IN RIVAIN, and now know that solas and his followers thinks they can trade rivaini lives* to further his plans.
*while i also think there's probably a divide between kont-aar and the rest of the nation, it's one that the rivaini love to jump across and back over. an interesting comparison to be made here with most of rivain having similar sentiments towards dairsmuid and the chantry. like this is the country specifically mentioned to have a lot of citizens who follow the qun/are non-andrastian + it being MUCH more multicultural and accepting than other nations. any attack on rivain, even if it's a qunari settlement, would fan a lot of flames that solas cannot put out so the idea of trying to him taking multiple steps back because he didn't realise how intensely the qun/rivaini/lords would react is very fun for me. it would have been soo interesting for rivain to be a hub for efforts against solas because of how it's not influenced by andrastianism, how he (or his agents) specifically fucked them over, and (maddeningly for solas) also part of this resistance has spirits who willingly guide them against him. this could have even been a plot device where the door goes both ways and solas finds out rook's plans because he manages to eavesdrop through a seer or something.
and on the spirits. all the stuff where the mourn watch regularly communicates with spirits could have been done with rivain as well, and with different takes on being 'friendly' with spirits. iirc there's a spirit in the hall of valor which is so interesting but it's literally just there for flavour text. THERE'S A SPIRIT IN THE HALL OF VALOR THAT DOES NOTHING BESIDES LIKE. SAY HI. ??? bioware i would have liked to see more spirits and seers and the matriarchal pantheists you have talked about please. and also the idea of the peaceful qunari settlement being pushed to protect the country they are part of and what that means for them as qunari vs. rivaini. taash's storyline could have contributed to this . so A LOT less about choosing a side, more about how kont-aar has developed, changed, how rivain has influenced it and what it means to be qunari. not the qunari agents and fighters that we have seen, but their 'civillian' way of life in kont-aar.
complete waste not seeing any of established lore reflected in the lords of fortune or rivain because i stupidly actually thought we were going to see some kind of settlement and be introduced to a very different cultural norms.. in my beautiful mind i like to think taash is a little taken aback by how badly mages/elves/etc are treated. like they understood it was different outside of rivain (they would have been young when the dairsmuid circle annulment happened right? so they don't 'remember' it themself, they likely heard others talking about it when they're old enough to understand) but until they actually saw what was happening first hand, they had a weird dissonance about it. but what we got was a deserted beach, ties to another faction (wardens are fine!! they are great !!!! the fourth blight is interesting!!!! yet they are not the faction with a lack of info about them!!!!!) and also the hall of valor that exists as flavor text with nothing meaningful behind it besides a pub used in a few cutscenes and a minigame.
#it's just hard to discuss the qunari in general when it is so obviously written to be quote unquote bad#and theyre like. in veilguard. really just reduced to being an invading force. which they were before. but there's literally nothing else#not a single character that explains more about the qun or how it operates + the game presenting choices about taash#that obviously lean towards favoring rivain. god knows why. its not like we know enough about it to choose it#even a quick peek into a rivaini lifestyle would have been helpful. all we know are from lorebooks !!!!#its actually like. 'qun would have made taash into a weapon/they are actively invading treviso/theyre working w ghil+el/shathaan' etc#and then on rivain's side the points are just 'umm. well the lords are super nice. and love freedom... and its also NOT qunari!'#there ARE reasons to pick rivain just none of them are in the fuck ass game. no one who doesnt read the books would know this shit#does anyone know why the antaam are acting outside of their orders. i dont rmb if this was explained or if its supposed to be like#a very severe response to solas and defying orders to 'deal' with a threat?#but god. kont-aar as it exists is so interesting. maybe elements of like .#'the main qun ignore the changes in kont-aar/rivain because it's such an important part of their trade' situation. idk#i just cant see a lot of the extremely rigid qun followings actually meshing with this extremely 'accepting' culture that is in rivain#eg. rivaini seers allowing possessions vs. sareebas#but its said that the rivaini pantheists actually have lots in common with the teachings of the qun (?)#and again. its peaceful. most of the issues that are mentioned in games/etc are to do with the ORLESIAN chantry causing issues in rivain#so it just. makes me think. maybe things have changed and there's a blind eye to whatever happens in kont-aar#or if there are more hostilities or issues caused by their differing beliefs then it would be good to fucking like. hear about it#plus the qun in general is just. worldbuilding standpoint is like. what. im not a guy who knows too much about this part of da lore so#i had to fact check a few things while writing this response and some of the answers were like#just so unbelievable that im choosing to do whatever i want#anyways. sorry. got out of hand. let me know if anything i said isnt true#its entirely possible. my knowledge of rivain is patchwork but this is probably to do with the fact there's not a lot. yeah#god. i have to stop talking now. thank u anon for agreeing w me. sorry u asked me about the lords and i took it as an excuse#to air out my issues w rivain. because tyche was partially built up around that and then none of it even mattered#veilguard spoilers#answered#rivain

hi my loves, this is a gentle (but firm) reminder that in all the prompt lists, i ask that you don't add to the lists! one reason being that if there's something that i missed, i'd want to be told via inbox so that i can add it to the original post! plus, there's only one person running this blog, i mightn't think of absolutely everything, and i'm making an effort to return to writing memes more regularly, so please just tell me and i'll edit the original post to add your suggestions. i promise my inbox is always open to additional suggestions!
#not rp related#( and if i'm being honest like it does feel bad from my end )#( even without an explanation )#( and this only happens once every so often and i'm not mad ! )#( but please. i put it in the top paragraph of every prompt list. )#( anyway i don't like making these posts )#( so i'm going to teach you how to make a runny fried egg )#( fry the egg in your choice of oil (i use rapeseed and butter!) )#( and just when bubbles appear in the white part of the egg )#( you add a splash of water to the pan and cover it )#( now keep an eye on it bc the yolk cooks very fast )#( i think a few seconds does the trick at a high flame anyhow! )

the early days rye and davrin dynamic is Everything to me. davrin's hanging-on-by-a-thread almost pleading 'rook please look me in the eyes and TELL me you don't keep the abomination demon assassin around just because you think he's pretty I just need to hear you say it' stressed out new single griffon father energy vs. rye's constant barely concealed 'davrin would you get off my fucking case for five minutes I'm not a complete idiot' passive aggressiveness makes for such a combo. I love the unbreakable near-brotherly bond of mutual trust and affection they end up having eventually but there's just something about their early jock/nerd miscommunication era that is so *chef's kiss* special and iconic and will live on eternally in my heart
(this is one of the rook responses that almost made me cry laughing the first time I saw it; I don't know what I expected but it was not that for sure! and with the tense relationship my goth nerd indoor kid rook had already managed to develop with davrin, somehow... delicious layers at work. the rook characterization revelation of 'oh my god he can be a little bit of a (huge) bitch when sufficiently pushed actually' was priceless and also hugely defining for the rest of the playthrough fhdsj)
#dragon age#dragon age: the veilguard#dragon age: the veilguard spoilers#dragon age spoilers#oc: Ellaryen Ingellvar#davrin#I love them I love them so much :')#there's also the fact that I think davrin is being mostly earnest when he says 'alright then' (implied: fucking phew for that at least)#while rye is very convinced he is being viciously side-eyed and quietly bristling over it. it's a very fun dynamic#rye basically thinks davrin thinks he's a complete idiot literally up into the moment he entrusts him with the griffon choice hfsadkj#but from there on he's like 'oh. ah. I see. I may have misread the situation here my bad I just hate myself' (*davrin voice* yeah. I know)#and they Understand each other from there more or less. davrin still has to shake rye a bit by the lapels like#'let me fucking care for and protect you back you little SHIT' from time to time probably but that's just part of the deal with them lol

#dude you cant spring a choice like that on me i need to rotate this over in my head D:#cos. godddd. i WANT to say embrace the rage. she SHOULD she has every right to and it feels kind of bad to tell her not to tbh?#ylva would probably too she is/was SO angry about this whole ordeal#in fact i kinda wish the game had given a dwarf rook special dialogue choices? but i digress#generally i would say that ylva would also tell her to go yeah no! that is justified! we SHOULD be angry!#but also what if this one is a choosing compassion over anger moment for ylva#because yes she does have a big heart and tries to be compassionate but this time it's much harder and a very conscious choice#(also in part bc i already had a ''choosing rage tm'' thing for my poe watcher jfkdsfsjdl)#not like this would Solve Everything between them but. yknow. it's a start!#also something something being inspired by harding despite everything something something holding on to your compassion despite everything#they both also deserve to be angry though#with how much time theyre both spending trying to be Good TM#and either way i dont think harding should be suppressing that anger#im reading that more as like. yes you are angry but dont let it consume you. channel it into something else#mmmmmmmm#decisions decisions.............#laya plays dav#dav spoilers#oc: ylva ingellvar

If anyone's interested the Amazon TV show Those About To Die is basically doing "What if Andretti did manage to become the 11th team?" in Ancient Rome
#I only saw the first episode and I sort of hate it already🥰#Watched only because there was Anothony Hopkins my beloved#the first episode is already a trashcan on fire and the CGI is Gods of Egypt tier#which if you haven't wayched God of Egypt is...not good#But HEY a good part of this story seems to be centered around vhariot racing#and it seems genuinely very accurate when it comes to racing#Look I have spotted a few telltale signs it could be a bad show.#but they seem to have actually tried with a number of historical details#so I think I'll keep watching it#I do hate their choice for Titus though. AND WHY DOES HE HAVE A BEARD??????#To my knowledge he didn't have it and it wasn't really A ThingTM for Roman Emporors at that time specifically#I hate when they cast random hot people in historical pieces#I hate to tell you but Domition was NOT an evil twink#I'll keep you posted and maybe do a series of posts about Roman chariot racing.#Might fuck around with that future Classics degree#f1#formula 1#andretti team#those about do die

not a fan of people saying Odin and Loki are similar in a moral or decisive sense, particularly when it comes to Thor. that makes it sound like Loki doesn't know Thor or care about him beyond what he symbolises (regarding Asgard/the throne/family/worthiness), when that's a defining part of their relationship
#like i get WHY people go 'oh Thor is like Frigga (they care™/bring Emotions in) and Loki is like Odin (calculating™ /For The Greater Good)'#but if you make such a clearcut comparison you neglect a lot of stuff that Odin and Loki do drastically different#like there are literal contrasts that are pretty evident around Thor particularly#like Odin does expect Thor to be some ideal version of himself that obeys Odin implicitly and doesn't have his own volatile emotions?#while Loki more sees that Thor isn't who he tries to pretend to be and generally encourages Thor to realize that#the most obvious parallel would be how they in TDW try telling Thor that Jane won't work out#and Odin goes for the whole 'well they're insignificant' angle despite Thor caring about the humans and Jane particularly#Odin tries to go 'here's Sif and since you shouldn't have your own preferences (they're wrong and bad) consider my choice'#he largely disregards Thor's emotions#most people do on Asgard????#like it's literally wild how everyone saw Thor being major depressed and they basically told him to pretend to cheer up#like im sorry Thor's grief means nothing to y;all. he fell in love with someone very mortal and his brother is changed forever#Loki tries putting Thor off by first off. Thor KNOWS Jane isn't going to live long he's not never thought about it#he doesn't even make the decision for Thor he tells him to consider his choice well bc it WILL hurt him when she's gone#Loki is like treats Thor like a person and Odin is like nah I own him#I feel like in converting the brother/father relationship difference over people lose the differences in those aspect#they skip to similarities of heartlessness and Machiavellian ends meeting the means when Loki overall is#a far more moral character than Thor (at the start of Thor's arc) and Odin. and a lot of culturally Asgardian ideas#that's literally part of Loki's original characterization that he DIDN'T match up with their views#he didn't do stuff like take killing lightly like it's for fun and that's one of a long list of obvious aspects that make the setup cool#don't tell me Odin and Loki are the same#like there's some blanket understanding that Loki doesn't show or care about the people he loves#while Thor and Frigga have always been softhearted and refused to sacrifice themselves for what is deemed better for everyone#don't mistake selfishness for apathy and don't say Loki didn't cry himself through the first movie because duty to the throne comes first#that's literally Thor's bit#idk

uhhhhh drabble without context :)
“Mac?” Frown deepening, Riley takes a few steps forward. “Hey. Are you… okay?” It’s a monumentally stupid thing to ask given that Riley doesn’t even think she’s okay, but Mac’s supposed to be the seasoned agent here. Plus, as much as she hates to think about it, Riley’s pretty sure that Mac’s seen worse when he was in the Army disarming bombs, or whatever it was that he did out there.
When she puts her hand on his shoulder, all she gets is a shudder. “Mac, I think you’re in shock.”
This time, he swallows. “I’m okay.”
“Do you know where you are?”
“Home.”
“Where’s home?”
This time, Mac moves with sudden movements, nearly smacking Riley in the face with the speed at which he turns. “Where’s Jack?”
“Mac, where’s home for you?”
“Here. Where’s Jack?”
She just barely stops herself from sighing. Moving until she’s in front of Mac’s face again, Riley desperately looks for some sign of concussion or something to explain his behavior. “Tell me where you are.”
“California.”
Truth be told, Riley was hoping for a more specific answer, but at this point she’ll take it as a win.
“I need to get Jack-”
“He’s okay.”
Mac shakes his head, taking a step away from Riley. “I need to- they’ll never let me go out if the sun sets, I-”
“Hey, hey! You don’t need to rescue him. He’s fine.” Against her better judgement, Riley reaches for his arm, hoping that the action will ground him and not cause her to end up with a bloody nose. “Mac, look at me. Jack’s at the Phoenix right now. I mean, he’s a little busted up, but he’s also not the only one.”
This time, it’s Mac’s turn to frown. “Are you hurt?”
Riley tightens her grip a little. “No. Mac, you were- you know what, why don’t we go get Jack?”
Belatedly, Mac nods.
When they brought her onto DXS, Riley really wasn’t expecting the guy who could hack everything other than computers, the guy who couldn’t possibly be older than her but still seemed to have all the confidence in the world, to look like this. And for the first time in her adult life, Riley would be willing to admit, out loud, that she wishes Jack Dalton were here.
#context? more like bore ragnarok#all i can tell you is that it's very VERY early season one#like episode one or two vibes#why is jack not with mac when he is clearly Not Okay? who knows! maybe he didn't have a choice#maybe bad things are happening#maybe bad things happened#idk man#all i know is that i had a thought and then my chest got the funky feeling and i wanted to share it all with you#this isn't part of a bigger fic btw 😅 this was just brain braining#in which vi actually writes#macgyver#macgyver 2016#drabbles

sometimes i just kinda sit there and think about how it is genuinely difficult for me to conceive of myself being desired
#i like myself a lot#but i don't really trust or expect other people to specifically single me out as attractive or worthwhile#like i guess i'm cool to others when there aren't other options or priorities but i'm not going to be actively pursued or chosen#i'm never the easiest option and therefore not the option anyone goes for#i think part of the appeal of embracing my bisexuality is hoping that maybe i /could/ be an easier option#bc when you're just dating people of the same sex there are a lot of things that can make it complicated or even impossible#and it hurts#and it sucks#i am so used to being treated in a certain way in relationships i naturally gravitate towards#to the point that i shame myself and feel selfish for simply wanting to be seen as attractive or treated with genuine care#like. somewhere in my gut i just don't think that can happen to me#i really want to believe that my gut is wrong and that i've just had very bad luck and i've made some bad choices in the company i keep#so i'm trying to keep searching for connections#but it sucks to feel at every turn like i'm almost delusional for wanting to be desired and treated well#those are very reasonable things to want#and other people get to have them#so why can't i

had the idea to make this
#srsly idk what people’s deal is#personally i think its cool that some ppl have big noses and some ppl have small ones and there are different shapes#but yeah no everyone always tells me shit like ‘dude ur nose is huge’ like. do you think i dont know that??#u think im gonna go look at myself in the mirror and get jumpscared like OH MY GOD WHAT THE FUCK HOW DID THAT GET THERE#and be like JESUS CHRIST I NEED TO FIX THIS IMMEDIATELY#because no the fuck i wont!!! was never raised to ever think it was a bad thing#because it really isnt#i wish all people that judge people based on their nose (or really any part of anyones appearance) a very please rethink your life choices#and besides#one of the main ways i make my faces look different from each other when i design characters is i just give them different shaped noses#sorry for the rant. was just thinking about it today
