Klovharu Summer Cottage by Raili Pietilä for Tove Jansson and Tuulikki Pietilä

1964-1965, Klovharu Island, Porvoo Archipelago, Finland

Tove Jansson and Tuulikki Pietilä spent every summer in this cottage for nearly 30 years. Tove chose the site by camping on various places on Klovharu, and they designed it with Tuulikki's sister-in-law, based on a fisherman's cabin on the island of Pellinge. It lacked electricity and running water, and if guests arrived, Tove and Tuulikki would give up the bed and camp outside. the cottage is a single room, with a cellar underneath--for food storage and a small sauna--built into the rock. the cottage is now an artist residency--with the original interiors preserved--but can be visited during one week in July. Hangover House by William Alexander Levy for Richard Haliburton

1937, Laguna Beach, California, USA

Hangover House, or Halliburton House, was designed by William Alexander Levy (he later dropped Levy from his name) for celebrity explorer Richard Halliburton and his ghostwriter and lover Paul Mooney. Supposedly, by the time the house was completed Halliburton and Mooney's relationship had expanded to include a third: Alexander himself. The house was built of concrete, with large public rooms and three small bedrooms, one for each of the men. Sadly, Halliburton and Mooney were lost at sea in 1939, and Halliburton's family sold the house and buried all references to his queerness. The house still stands today and is a private residence. Azurest South by Amaza Lee Meredith 1938, Ettrick, Virginia, USA

Azurest South might be the first International Style home to have been built in Virginia, and instead of in a wealthy white enclave like you might expect, it's located just off of the campus of Virginia State University, an Historic Black College/University. it was built by pioneering artist, architect, and educator Amaza Lee Meredith for herself and her partner, Dr. Edna Meade Colson. colson was the head of the education department at VSU, and meredith was head of the art department (which she had created in 1930). we know from her scrapbooks that meredith was looking at european designs and experimenting with them in the house. the result was something unlike everything around it--flat roofs, glass bricks, bright paint and tilework inside--an antidote to traditionally conservative virginia architecture. azurest south today belongs to the vsu alumni association. it is not open to visit, but has received increased attention and grant funding over the past few years, so it may well be someday! Six Acres by Mary Imrie and Jean Wallbridge 1954-1957, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

Mary Imrie and Jean Wallbridge were partners in work and life, establishing the first all-female architectural firm in Canada. in the 50s, they built a house to serve as their home and office along the banks of the north saskatchewan river and called it "six acres" after the size of the lot. they traveled enthusiastically and widely (pdf) and were avid outdoorspeople. like a lot of women architects at this point in the 20th century, they were largely relegated to residential commissions, which they found frustrating. that said, they gained a reputation for helping clients who were struggling with construction costs by encouraging gatherings of friends and neighbors to assist with the work, something they had hands-on experience with, having assisted in the building of their own home. the house is still standing and is now the office of the alberta land stewardship centre. timeline of their lives and careers. more about the house itself.

Finella by Raymond McGrath for Mansfield Duval Forbes c. 1850, renovated 1929, Cambridge, England, UK

Mansfield Forbes was an english don at clare college, cambridge. in 1928 he leased a victorian home called "the yews" and spent the next year working with Raymond McGrath (previous seen here) to transform it into a modern fairyland, named in tribute of Finella, a 10th century Pictish queen. the interiors were a celebration of new materials--there were floors made of induroleum (wood and asbestos powder), walls painted with iridescent cellulose paint, something called copper plymax (??), and the entry hall had a vaulted ceiling covered in glass panels backed with silver leaf. forbes intended it to be a gathering place of sympathetic minds, to host salons in celebration of modern art and architecture in a setting a queer and future-looking as he himself was. unfortunately, he vastly overspent in outfitting Finella, and when he died suddenly in 1935, the contents of the house were auctioned off. Finella is still part of Cambridge and houses fellows of gonville & caius college. the college recently restored the hall, which can apparently be toured on specific days. interior photos from 1929 and 2004.

112 Charles Street by Eleanor Raymond 1868, renovated 1922, Boston, Massachusetts, USA

When Eleanor Raymond began work on 112 Charles Street, it had recently had the front 10 feet sliced off to allow for the widening of the street, so her renovation was essentially a reimagining. eleanor designed the house for her mother, who had her own apartment, as well as eleanor herself, her sister rachel, and her partner ethel powers. the three of them shared a floor. powers wrote for the magazine House Beautiful (and would go on to be its editor) and featured the home three times. in the largest feature on its interiors, she emphasized that since it was a home of three business women, it needed to be "self running." raymond would go on to design and build much more modernist houses, and the conservative appearance of this one might be due to how early in her career it was (she graduated from her architecture program in 1919), but i think it's more likely that she was aware of the necessity of appearing somewhat inconspicuous in her surroundings, as a queer woman with a career. read more about her work here. and here.

Summary: things get though when Jason comes home from a mission more closed off to you than ever.

"What are you doing here?"

I didn't take the tone of his voice personally as I slid into the seat in front of him. I knew what I was in for when I came looking for him here. Naima told me this morning that the boys were touching down in VA Beach today, and considering the fact that Jason didn't tell me himself meant that he was trying to push me away.

He was nursing what looked like his fifth beer when I got there and I wasn't going to push him to tell me everything that happened on his deployment, but after three months I was hoping he would be at least a little excited to see me.

"Naima told me you guys were home."

"Again, what are you doing here?"

"Checking on you."

"You're not my mother and I didn't ask you to do that."

I nodded.

"You don't have to ask Jase, I'm doing it because I love you."

"Well that's a stupid thing to do."

I furrowed my eyebrows.

"What?"

"Love me."

"Why's that?"

"Look you should just go home. Your house."

I nodded.

"You're clearly throwing yourself a pitty party right now, so fine I'll stay at my house tonight, but you're not getting rid of me this easy Hayes."

"Look you deserve someone better than me."

"And that's for me to decide Jason."

"You deserve a better life than I can ever give you."

I shrugged and leaned back into the chair I was sitting in and crossed my arms across my chest.

"And what does that look like to you? Enlighten me."

He leaned forward and leaned onto his forearms.

"White picket fence house with a couple of kids running around. Married to an accountant or some shit like that. Someone who you can rely on to be here."

I chuckled.

"It's that's the life you see me in than you don't know me at all, Jason. Listen to me when I say that I love the life we have, you, me, and Cerby."

Jason shook his head.

"Ok, let's go. I'm gonna take you home."

"I'm good."

I nodded.

"Fine. I love you Jason. I'll call you tomorrow."

Jason just grabbed onto his beer bottle and downed the rest of it and he pushed himself up and headed to the bar. I put my head down and pulled a twenty dollar bill out of my purse, a post it note and a pen.

I slid the corner of the twenty dollar bill with the note "Get home safe❤️" under one of the empty beer bottles as I dropped the pen back into my purse and pushed myself up. I looked over at the bar, but Jason completely ignored me. I pushed the exit door and walked down the street to where my car was parked and headed over to my place.

Cerberus greeted me the second I walked through the door of my house and I smiled as I pet the top of the dog's head.

"Looks like you're going to be crashing here for one more night Cerby, you're dad's being an asshole."

The dog barked, almost in agreement, and I chuckled as I put my things away and headed to my room to get ready for bed.

The next morning I debated calling Jason but knowing him he probably wouldn't pick up so I loaded Cerby into my car and headed to our favourite breakfast spot to grab some food before heading over to his place.

I knocked twice and there was no answer so I bent down and got the spare key from under the mat. I swiftly unlocked the door and pushed it open. Cerby ran inside, excited to see Jason and I smiled as I closed the door behind me.

"You know that's breaking and entering."

"Not if I have the key."

He nodded.

"You said you'd call."

I nodded as I stepped inside his apartment further and put the bag of food and tray with the coffee's in it down onto the kitchen table.

"Be honest with me right now, would you have picked up the phone if I called?"

Jason shruggred as he picked up the cup of coffee off the table.

"Thanks for dropping by."

I scoffed.

"Wow. Listen, I'm not going anywhere Jason, no matter how tough shit gets, why can't you get that through your thick skull?"

"I'm trying to protect you here. This life is just going to slowly destroy us and I don't want to do that to you."

"Oh you're really gonna give me the I'm doing this to protect you speech? I've done two tours in Afghanistan as a combat medic Jason you're not the only one who's seen some unthinkable shit. I know exactly what you're life looked like when we started dating. I knew what I was getting myself into."

Jason nodded.

"Look, if you want me gone, say the word and I'm out the door, but I don't believe that's what you truly want."

The silence that followed was unbearable and I just nodded. I grabbed my coffee cup, put the key to the front door on the kitchen table and turned around and walked over to the door. I swallowed the lump in my throat as I put my hand down on the handle.

"Stay."

I dropped my hand to my side and turned around to face Jason.

"Stay."

I nodded.

"You've gotta stop pushing me out Jason. I'm here and I'm not going anywhere. I can handle more than you think."

Jason nodded.

"I don't deserve you."

I nodded.

"You're right. Especially when you're being a grad A asshole."

Jason gave me a small smile.

"Can we eat?"

I smiled.

"I had other things in mind."

Jason nodded as he put his coffee cup down on the table and quickly made his way over to me. I quickly put my coffee cup down onto the windowsill and my lips crashed against Jason's as he wrapped his arm tightly around my waist.

With one arm Jason reached under my butt and scooped me in my arms while I wrapped my legs around his waist. Seconds later my back hit his matress and I smiled as Jason quickly pulled off his shirt.

"Now this was the welcome home I was in visioning."

Jason nodded.

"I'll make it up to you. For being, what did you call me?"

"A Grade A asshole. And you better Hayes."

You know what, season 2 broke a lot of our hearts, didn't it? Well, here's some moments I thought were funny, heartwarming and just off the wall to lighten things up!

Starting with the Hidden Inventory/Premature Death Arc and if y'all want, I'll do a part 2 for the Shibuya Incident!

NOTE: I may have talked about some of these moments before in other posts.

Utahime, just all of Utahime in the first episode. She's awesome, I adore her. "SHOOOOKOOOO!!"

Chibi Satoru and Suguru. Especially the part of Suguru walking up the stairs as the others were talking. "Urusei."

"SENSEI, I SAY WE STOP THIS HUNT FOR THE CULPRIT!"

The fact that Suguru even went from wearing regular-waist pants to high-waist ones from manga to anime is glorious. Whoever decided that knew Suguru was meant to be a fashion icon.

I love Satoru Gojo, I do. But with those glasses, he really do be looking like one of the Three Blind Mice from Shrek.

I don't know how but Toji somehow made saying he took his wife's last name scary. Like, he was very intimidating that it bypass me the first time of how cute it is that he loved Mamaguro a lot.

They actually added Suguru fixing himself a cup of tea in the anime!! This teenager really had that man captured by some Kissing Curse, told him he couldn't be a rice farmer and had himself some tea. Iconic.

Ooh, Satoru didn't have to do Bayer like that. But I applaud him for taking such a selfie!

Riko actually was the first to defeat Satoru. Did him dirty!! Suguru actually laughs at Satoru getting slapped while in the anime he looks shocked. Either way, his reaction is funny as hell.

"You look like a liar! And what's up with those bangs?" Then Riko got jumped for that!

Knowing how Suguru turns out, it's something he's the one to tell Kuroi that she's Riko's family. Years later, he had his own "family". It's actually heartwarming he tells her that.

That old man didn't even get touched yet and he was already seeing his dead dog from 50 years ago!! Man's life flashed right before his eyes and he even says that! The whooping Suguru put on him was so bad that he was having visions!!

The one time Satoru is shown to have some sort of charm is with a bunch of school girls. The teacher should be locked up though.

Baghead man really had on the All Might cosplay.

Toji didn't have to say a word to that man and he still scared him shitless. Alright, Toji, I see you being all scary!

Satoru really be carrying kids like they're bags of groceries. Did it with Yuji, he did it with Riko.

Teen Kento having that hairstyle and his dynamic with Yu is just too adorable. He looks like he has Wii music playing in his head all day. Such a good kid!!

I cannot believe that DIO's VA is also Toji's. It's funnier when Toji has had beef with Satoru as a kid and DIO has had generational beef with the Joestars.

I just know that Worm Curse was having the time of its life on Toji's back while he was jumping around and being tossed about. Also, Toji smiling the whole time while fighting.

Suguru actually has mad hops! Did y'all not see that long ass jump?!

Squid gun. Speaking of, where in the hell did all those squids come from?! I need a story on that one!

That kick was fucking personal, I just know it! Also, the fact that Toji actually thought about the curses inhabiting Suguru's body is something. Especially, given later. I actually question that when Suguru dies in JJK 0, did Satoru have to deal with any curses?

Also, if you pay attention to the Worm, that thing sometimes matches Toji's expressions. It's like Reki and his headband (SK8 the Infinity).

The fact that people have described Toji's death as "turned into the Apple logo" to "the Rengoku treatment". Y'all are out of pocket! And he looked so disappointed, too.

Yuki's reaction to what Suguru tells her about what he has heard about her. "She's pouting."

Heartbreaking as the scene is, you had one lanky ass teenager looking deranged on one end and the other with the "I'm going to the store real quick" fit on having this fight in front of KFC. Becomes even funnier when you remember the slogan "finger lickin' good". What does this have to do with anything? Think about Yuji.

One, where did Suguru get the robes from? Two, given he was born the following year in February after Satoru, if I did my calculations right... Suguru really started a cult at 17. No wonder there were objections. After he killed that guy, I'm sure everyone was like "oh, he's unhinged".

Okay, but the head rubs he gave the twins were so cute!! Look, they may been raised as killers, but it's sweet that they were Suguru's family. He adored those girls and they adored him!

The bright, full moon stares back at you as it slowly hits you that the biggest day of your life is just hours away. You’re not sure how long you’ve been awake or what time it is. Neither do you know if the thoughts in your head are just out of fear or if they are a warning from your conscious. You’re not even sure where they’ve come from. When you answered yes to the four letter question Miko asked you a year ago, you’ve never felt more certain about anything in your life.

That is, until now.

You decide that some fresh air will help you clear your head. With that, you kick off the duvet and sheets, and walk out of your hotel suite. The wedding is supposed to take place at the beach right in front. It’s the main reason why you and Miko chose to hold the ceremony in Puerto Rico. Especially when it’s where you two had first met years before.

Save for yourself, there is no one else outside the hotel pool. The cool breeze makes you wish that you put on a jacket but you don’t care. You sit on the lounge chair, your eyes closed as you take slow, deep breaths in and out. After doing this a couple times, you feel a bit calmer but your mind is still racing. God, how wish that Miko—

“Y/N?” a soft, familiar voice from behind you calls your name, and you quickly stand up to see your fiancée behind you.

“Vicky… w-what are you doing here?” you ask, biting your lower lip.

“Te vi salir de tu habitación,” she replies, taking your hands in hers and she gasps. “Ay, estás bien helada, Y/N!”

Without hesitation, Miko pulls her black oversized hoodie over her head and puts it on you. Her scent immediately engulfs you, the warmth comforting and gentle just as if she were to have her arms around you.

“Gracias, Vick.” Your voice is barely above a whisper. Then, ever so gently, Miko lifts your chin up. Her blue eyes lock with yours, your chest tightening when you see the concern in them.

“Estás bien, mi amor?” Miko murmurs softly, and you bite your lower lip. Slowly, you sit back down, your heart beating out of your chest.

“Yes. No…” You sigh, defeated. “I-I don’t know.”

“Háblame, Y/N, por favor. You can tell me anything… sabes eso, cierto?” Miko sits down next to you and wraps her arm around you. “Please, tell me what’s wrong. Is it about us getting married tomorrow?”

“Yes,” you admit after a beat of silence, your voice trembling a bit. “Im so scared, Miko.”

“What are you scared of, Y/N?” Miko breaths, hesitation evident in her voice. When you don’t say anything, she pleads, “Talk to me, please.”

“Marriage is such a huge commitment, Vicky. Are we sure we’re ready for this?” you ask, choosing your words with care as you look at your fiancée in the eye.

“Claro que si, mi amor! We love each other. That’s all we need… isn’t it?” Miko offers you a small smile but you can see the worry and fear on her features.

“But what if it isn’t? What if this is all happening too fast and we’re not actually ready? What if marriage isn’t for us?” you ramble as you feel tears swell up in tour eyes, your chest tightening.

“Y/N…” Miko inhales shakily. She then turns her body so she is facing you, her hands holding your tightly. “Escúchame, mi amor. No tenemos que casarnos si no quieres. Podemos seguir siendo casadas en nuestros corazones si es lo que deseas…” She then lets out a shaky breath. “Pero si no quieres seguir con nuestra relación—“

“I do, I do, Miko!” you interject quickly, squeezing her hands. A tear slowly falls down your face and your fiancée gently wipes it away. “I-It’s just that I-I’m scared! What if it doesn’t work out? What if one day we wake up and realize that we we’ve fallen out of love for each other? W-what if we end up like my parents?!”

“Tranquila, mi amor,” Miko soothes, her voice barely above a whisper as she smooths your hair in an attempt to soothe you. “Eso no va pasar. Sucederá si lo permitimos. Pero no lo será... because I will spend the rest of my life fighting and protecting what we have.” A quiet sob escapes her lips. “Te amo, Y/N. Lo único que me importa es tu felicidad y bienestar. No importa lo que elijas… I will always love you.”

She then looks away from you, her gaze focused on her ground as she rubs her hands together, biting her lower lip. You know that she is fighting back tears, and your heart breaks. As her words resonate in your ears, you slowly begin to realize that Miko truly loves you. And that you love her— enough to marry her.

“What I want… is to get married to you, Miko,” you finally say as a big smile slowly spreads on your lips and Miko quickly turns her head to look at you.

“Really? You want to marry me?” Miko’s face lights up with happiness.

You chuckle softly, nodding your head rapidly. “Yes! Yes, Miko, I will marry you.”

“Espera. Dame tu anillo,” she says in a mock-serious tone, and you slide it off your finger and hand it to her. With a giddy smile on her face, Miko gets down one on knee and you become a giggle mess as she takes your hand in hers, holding up the ring between her fingers. She then clears her throat.

“Y/N Y/M/N Y/L/N, amor de mi vida, will you marry me?” Miko asks charmingly and you squeal.

“Yes— a million times over, yes!” you exclaim happily as Miko slides the ring back on your finger. She then stands up and so do you. You press your lips against Miko’s, pouring all the love you have for her into the kiss, and Miko instantly kisses back with just as much passion.

“Y/N… mi Y/N,” Miko murmurs as she gently leans her forehead against yours, her grip tightening around your waist.

“I’m so sorry for doubting you, doubting us.” You kiss Miko again.

“You have nothing to apologize for, Y/N,” Miko reassures you and brings your hand up to her lips, kissing it. “Im glad we had this talk.”

“Me too,” you hum, feeling as if a huge weight has been lifted from your shoulders. “I love you, María Victoria.”

Miko chuckles, cupping your face. “No tanto como amo a ti, mi vida. No puedo creer que mañana a esta hora estaremos casadas.”

“Oh, my God…” you giggle, your heart fluttering. “Me neither, baby. I can’t wait.”

“We should go back to our rooms and get some sleep. We’re not supposed to see each tomorrow, you know,” Miko chides playfully and you pout.

“I don’t want to be separated from you again,” you murmur softly. “Please stay with me. At least until I fall asleep. Please, Miko?”

This story was on hold for a long time. I promise I am attempting to take it somewhere interesting, if you eat your vegetables first it might turn into a good story. Chapter 7 is being finalised. There is some degree of tonal whiplash and 'mature themes' beginning now. If you can guess what I've been reading too much of tin the mean time, you win a prize. ----

Chapter 5

As she burst through the threshold, compact machine pistol raised, Hana was reassured to see Vas frozen behind his desk.

He was moving, albeit slowly. Trying to shut off the large array of security monitors affixed to the wall.

“We will talk-” Hana began, before her gaze got stuck on one of the monitors.

It was one monitor of many, but the impossibly inflated woman asleep on a mattress seized her attention.

Candy… she thought, her grip tightening on the machine pistol pointed square at Vas’ dome.

But it wasn’t Candy. This woman looked Korean. Her breasts may have rivalled Candy’s, but it was unmistakably a different woman.

“Don't. Move”. Hana hissed at Vas

“The other screens. Turn them on”.

Hana pushed her feelings down as she scanned through the monitors.

Many showed empty rooms, mattresses on floors, screens on walls.

But others showed women like the first. Sleeping or delirious, extreme body modifications, alone.

A pale woman laying on her side, grossly overfilled breasts spilling beyond the edge of her mattress, not Candy.

Another Korean, her gigantic ass blown up into two spheres, both winning the battle of keeping the woman horizontal. Her skinny legs looked completely inadequate of hauling her bulk around, the petite woman was simply attached to her own spheroid beach-ball ass.

“Where. Is. She”. spat Hana, the gun now inches from Vas’ head.

Vas’ tried to hide his fear as a final larger monitor flickered to life.

Hana gasped.

10 minutes earlier

He was sluggish, remaining outside had only shielded him so much.

Even a tiny wave of the NEMP had reduced his functionality to little more than a limp mode.

To think that was… a tiny one. A pebble. Now his second time on the receiving end of a wave, it proved no easier than his first.

But J.Q pressed on, one foot in front of the other. Threading as carefully through the crowded room as his size and numbed neural link would allow.

It was a surreal sight, with the main power fluctuating, the frozen figures were illuminated only by dim red emergency lighting.

Strippers with their hands locked around poles, fear in their eyes yet unable to move a muscle.

Patrons locked into chairs, but most importantly, the other Heavies gathered around the guard room, frozen stiff. But for how long.

He kept the assault rifle trained on them as he trudged on towards the door.

With all eyes on her, Hana stayed a step behind her new meat, her shield.

Fresh Pirska-2 coursed through her veins.

The amateurishly improvised NEMP bomb strapped to her chest was heavy, but she was still the fastest moving thing in this building. For the moment.

After an eternity, J.Q and Hana reached the hallway that led to the backrooms. The main lights flickered on and off.

J.Q’s legs were starting to free up, the effects would soon be wearing off everyone else in the room too.

He flipped tables and took up a firing position between them. It wasn’t much of a barricade, but it would have to do. The ammunition in his own rifle would tear through an engine block, let alone a table. But it was better than nothing.

“I’m almost back Hana, might be now or never” he said, with nothing but a fraction of his head and rifle barrel visible from behind the table barricade.

Hana remained crouched behind her mostly-human shield and steeled herself, then stood straight up to face the room.

“NO-ONE MOVES.

NO-ONE LEAVES.

YOU HAVE FELT WHAT A TINY ELECTROMAGNETIC PULSE DOES” Hana shouted, holding an unused grenade above her head.

“OFFLINE MUCH LONGER AND YOU'D DIE.

THIS ONE IS A THOUSAND TIMES THE SIZE.

DON’T MAKE ME USE IT.

DO. NOT. MOVE.

THIS INCLUDES YOU VAS” she finished, before ducking back down behind J.Q and the barricade.

“Go get her Han-” J.Q began.

“Wait. Movement.”

Hana’s organic eyes couldn’t make it out, but a Heavy was inching his hand towards the locker behind him.

J.Q was now fully online. He could see everything in a combat situation.

Head of the guard. The top goon. His old boss. A miserable prick at the best of times.

“SHOW ME THAT YOU UNDERSTAND, KHOZ” J.Q shouted, raising his head slightly above the table line.

But Khoz kept moving. Just fulfilling his role.

“Go now, behind me until around the corner. Leave the grenades. Get her out” J.Q said quietly, so that only Hana could hear him.

He stood straight up, his hulking figure now presenting a clear target. A clear target, but also a 200cm kevlar plated shield.

Hana moved quickly. As she rounded the corner, her own gun now up, she could still hear J.Q shouting.

“NO ONE PASSES OR THE-”

The sentence was cut off by a sudden burst of semi-automatic gunfire.

Hana tensed. It sounded like J.Q’s anti-material rounds, but could she be sure?

It would be a miracle if he survived, they both knew that. But what else was a Heavy do in this world.

Besides, she had just arrived.

Fictional characters that definitely deserved better

💪Jen Walters (She-Hulk: Attorney at law)💪

She-Hulk is one of those shows I enjoyed because of the vibes, no surprise that a bunch of dudebros were doing their usual hate on the MCU crap again, especially going after this show.

I like how the show made Jennifer relatable and likable from the start, Tatiana did such a amazingly performance as the titular character along with matching her sassiness and wit like she have in the comics.

The possibilities of She-Hulk season 2 are slim to none, but I still have hope of Jen coming back in the future.

🛩️Andy Demayo (Steven Universe)🛩️

Even though he was kinda rude in his debut episode, but honestly, you would be confused and angry too if you see a bunch of strangers in your barn.

Besides Greg and the residents at Beach City, he rarely calls out Steven's dangerously daily lifestyle with the gems and shows that he cares about his recently known nephew.

After Gem harvest, he resolved the bittered distance and continue visiting his family, even showing at Garnet's wedding.

It was kind of a waste that Future didn't give him anything important to add, he would connect and helped Steven's dilemma with the fear of change, similar to his.

Also a hilarious fun fact, Andy's VA is Carl from Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

🐁Splinter (TMNT 2012)🐁

Honestly one of the most tragic characters in the show, from a broken man who lost everything, to a loving and protecting father who found a new lease on life, along with a family that care for each other to the very end.

He can be strict but he does care about his family and would die fighting for them, he literally died to save them and would do it again if he have to.

Hoon Lee's electrifying portrayal speaks for itself and the critical juncture of his past that parallels him and Shredder is another reason why the show is underrated.

I hate the backlash that this character has been getting and that people are labeling him as a bad father but he's not, the show literally has moments of him caring and protecting his family from danger.

🕸️Miles Morales (Spider-Man)🕸️

Without a doubt, Miles is one of the best Spider-Man characters of all. Pretty disgusting that people are using with the whole Miles Morales is Miles Morales crap to hate on a character that brings a new meaning for a iconic role model for kids.

Into and Across the Spider-verse done a outstanding job, making Miles's personal journey and growth so emotional and inspiring.

Sucks that the third film is going to take a long time to premiere, but at least the PS4 games also give him justice and continues shining Miles.

Miles Morales will forever be one of the best Spider-man, it just sucks that some people won't accept him continuously, but in some way at least there's some people who actually respect him as a character, knowing that he is in forever will be Spider-Man and that makes it him amazing.

📋Lois Lane (My Adventures with Superman)📋

My Adventures with Superman is a show that should be talked about especially on how well written it is, the show adapted Lois very well, along with her budding romance with Clark.

I literally hated how Lois gets treated like garbage by a certain amount of people after the whole secret identity thing, the show does prove that Lois is flawed and complex in a good way, making her likable and relatable, she makes mistakes but that doesn't mean it's a bad thing, everyone does.

The latest episode of season 2 really proves that Lois is a good character, showing her empathetic past and complicated relationship with her dad.

Also, Alice Lee's fun performance as the character is just top notch, whether she's happy or sad, she just nails Lois's character without a doubt.

🧬Morty Smith (Rick and Morty)🧬

This boy has been through enough, with neglectful parents, a sister that does care about him but is focused on her own life, Rick cares sometimes, but can be a real jerk. Morty is more you can be his own person the truth is some things can be holding him back, mostly his grandfather.

I'm glad that Rick is trying to change for the better, I remember I hated the way he treated Morty thoughout the seasons whether using verbal or physical abuse, it also sucks when he tried to do something good yet the universe basically just throws it back at him like a giant middle finger.

I'm glad that the later seasons proves that Morty could be a badass and he can handle himself, but I hope when the new season drops, they find a way to handle his trauma because he deserves a hug.

🎳Wade Whipple (The Sonic franchise)🎳

The Sonic films are underrated but it's problem is that it gets dunked on, especially thanks to a so-called outside of the box thinker.

But unlike the other live action films with bland and boring human characters, the human characters in Sonic are actually likable and memorable, among them is Wade Whipple.

I really don't think he's one of the worst characters in Sonic, honestly his sister and dad deserves to be on that list.

Honestly people hate him just because he have more screen time than Knuckles but one, because it's a TV show budget and Knuckles is in the show, they are acting like he never was in the show.

Two, at least it added layers and flaws that made him even more relatable and serves a purpose to Knuckles's journey.

Like with Tom and Maddie with Sonic, his friendship with Knuckles is another core example of why Knuckles work and his actor, Adam Pally's performance was great too.

🔪Sam Carpenter (Scream 5 and 6)🔪

Sam is another character that deserves more attention and respect than before, partially thanks to her actress.

Aside her rough past and learning the dark truth about her family, Sam cares about the people she loves and isn't afraid to fight for them, even fighting her own personal demons just to do so.

Melissa Barrera is a underrated actress, though Her performance in part 5 was good, I think she was just basically outperformed by everyone else, and it didn't help that she was getting bullied and criticize by bunch of toxic fans.

Scream 6 gave Sam justice and proves that she's a badass final girl, especially thanks to the crew and cast of the films who care and was there for her but thanks to a certain company that fire her for doing the right thing, what's the point of even watching Scream 7 without her and the core four but the good thing is at least it gave her and Sam a bittersweet ending.

🐝Chloe Bourgeois (Miraculous Ladybug)🐝

This one is a completely personal rant, I used to be a fan Miraculous. But after watching the season 3 finale, I feel like the magic of the show just basically disappeared, and seasons 4 and 5 was a huge sign that the show fully gone off the rails.

I remember hating Chloe in the first season and I'm pretty sure everyone else felt the same feeling too, but season 2 actually did the the most surprising thing, actually gave her some character development.

It might be baby steps but still development, she might have been spoiled and selfish sometimes but they actually do show that she has flaws.

Malediktator was one of the best episodes of season 2, they were able to showcase Chloe's vulnerability and it prove that she can change and still be a useful ally like the other miraculous holders.

She protected her friend from getting akumatized again, she almost got Mayura's miraculous, and heck, She literally defied Hawkmoth's control, unlike the other akumatized victims, that is basically spells hero-worthy.

But of course as always, Thomas is just too spiteful and that thinks that Chloe is not just worthy and replaced her with a bland, forgettable and useless character who only exists just because she is "better" than Chloe.

It's honestly just pathetic that her corrupt father who spoils her and the literal villain of the show, who done some horrible and awful things get a redemption arc, but a literal misunderstood child doesn't, it just proves that the writer's room just don't even know how to handle character development nor redemption arcs.

It's even more sad that the film actually treats Chloe better than the show does.

The truth is whether do you like or don't like Chloe, it's possible that she can change, it's just that Thomas is the actual problem of the show, I hope one day somehow Chloe might actually get a actual chance to shine as a character again but maybe in the future it could still could happen.

I admit, most of my favorite characters from JJK I somewhat thirst over but I'll try to keep those thoughts out of why I love them (because I do have some genuine reason besides thirst for liking them). 1. Toji Fushiguro

First and foremost, I like his calm attitude yet snarky way of talking. Also he's just a badass. We all all saw him kick ass any time he came on screen. His physique and strength is something to envy ngl (which I had big muscles too). And yes, not the best dad but I KNOW this man was the best fucking husband he could be. 2. Kento Nanami

HE DESERVED SO MUCH BETTER! It's obvious he cares a lot about people, especially young sorcerers. I like to believe that while he hates how Jujutsu Society operates, he tries to make the small changes necessary to make it better (aka not having child soldiers die and get traumatized like he did). Plus I fully agree that both aspects of life (living as a sorcerer or working a normal job) sucks too.

3. Ryomen Sukuna

HOLD ON HOLD ON HOLD ON BEFORE YOU ALL STAB ME TO DEATH CEASAR STYLE- He's genuinely an interesting antagonist to me. He has layers, I think that's apparent. He's cocky, but for good reason. And there have been moments where I near shat my pants watching him (we all saw that Jogo vs. Sukuna fight and those jumpscares he did. Also both VAs did amazing cackles). His true form from the Heian Era is also so cool to look at as well, and I think may inspire me to be more creative with my own character designs in the future.

4. Suguru Geto

HOLD ON, HOLD ON- Once again, I love a layered antagonist and HOLY SHIT HE HAS LAYERS! Like- ok- I get what his goal is. I get what he wants. And frankly, if my lover best friend died, came back to life, and close friend I was meant to protect died as well, yeah I'd be kinda fucked up so see people celebrating and not batting an eye. Yes, running a cult and committing literal genocide are. . . choices. But in the end, his goal is to protect sorcerers (a group constantly being used and controlled by the majority of non-sorcerers) and that makes some sense.

5. Toge Inumaki

I personally think he's a bit underrated, and underutilized. Sure, I know he's not loaded with Cursed Energy but like- that technique he has can be overpowered as hell. Also, I like how he insists on using ingredient names to convey how he feels when he could just- avoid commands? Like he can obviously use nouns. As long as there's a proper subject, then verbs won't use the cursed speech technique (Don't flame me if I'm wrong, I haven't read through too much of the manga). He's cute, I love his vibes, and he is my son. As for moments in the series, they're more small than most expect: 1. Whenever Mahito gets his ass beat - Self explanatory. Yes I'm still fucking mad about what happened to Nobara and Nanami.

2. When Yuji met Toge in the streets of Shibuya - SALMON! But fr, I love the small moments that show friendship between sorcerers that otherwise don't meet up much. And Toge just being there, chilling with a megaphone to help people is funny to me.

3. The last conversation between Megumi and Toji - AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH! PAIN! BUT ALSO YOU CAN SEE HOW HAPPY TOJI IS FOR HIS SON! I'M GONE. DEAD.

4. THAT Nanami scene - MAPPA served us good as did Kenjiro Tsuda. "The number and locations of your allies," anything for you, love. Let's go to Malaysia and sit on a beach. I giggle every time.

5. The phone conversation Suguru and Satoru have - The expressions and conversation kill me everytime. They're 'close friends' your honor.

VA Native Fish Hunting - 24

Today was a fun trip. I've been to this beach a number of times for glass hunting (successful) and for shark tooth hunting (not so successful), but not for dedicated fishing. I did find a couple of neat finds, which goes to show you it pays off to explore old places with a new eye.

Last hunt, I included a picture of some sea lettuce (Ulva spp) I found but thought it lacked some context on how it naturally looked since I had it above water level. Using some advice from a tumblr follower, I brought my acrylic holding container with me. Sea lettuce is SO COOL when submerged and thought it was worth including a picture here.

Lots more Glass Shrimp (Palaemon spp) here. By contrast with the sea lettuce, glass shrimp are harder to get photos of when submerged in their home (murky) water. Still. Neat critters.

This Skilletfish (Gobiesox strumosus) was washed up/deceased, sadly. But still interesting because a) it's my first time finding this species in this area of the river, and b) it being dead means I can show off their suction cup like belly.

A first for me! This American Eel (Anguilla rostrata) is the first specimen I've caught of this species. Around 5 or 6 inches long, it was absolutely restless looking for a way out - which reflects how eagerly they escape the home aquarium. They also are thought to live upwards of 80 years, so I hope this dude has a nice long life!

Fair enough, I was unsure if I would catch anything, so I found this inlet to the river I was fishing on and tossed in a few minnow traps. Might as well hedge your bets, right?

I caught a few Eastern Mosquitofish (Gambusia holbrooki) here, and unsurprising as they are among the most common species in this area. Freshwater? Brackish? Saltwater? You'll probably find some. But I love the mottling coloration on this fella - I think they are handsome in a subdued way.

More shrimps! A little easier to see here butttt still a little hard with stirred up silt.

I probably caught about 20 Mummichogs (Fundulus heteroclitus) aross my traps. No exaggeration, some of my favorite native fishes in this area - especially for home use but I think they are pretty in general.

Most of the Mummichogs were smallish but this dude was a chonker. Mine at home are pushing 5 inches but at 3.5 or so, this killifish is still impressive. Love the slight teal coloration the big ones have sometimes.

Last find was this live Skilletfish! That coloration is fantastic, much better than the last few washed out ones I've come across. This guy more than any other catch today has tempted me to start up a native biotope tank. What a cool cat!

Audio Drama Sunday - 23rd July ✨

This week has been such an amazing week of listening! I’ve found three new shows that I absolutely adore and I can’t wait to tell you all about them ✨

🌲@hellofromthehallowoods (126) FIRST OF ALL 🚗🚗🚗 BEEP BEEP GET IN LOSER, WE’RE GOING TO GET MOTH 🚗🚗🚗 So glad to hear from you again, Ray!! This line: “the devil’s a better man than I am” had my eyebrows disappearing into my hairline and that’s all I’m going to say at this time. It’s always a risk listening in public, because the scene on the beach made me want to cry a little. I hope in my heart that they’re all going to make it out of there but I have no idea how right now! 

📻 @monstrousagonies (106) the first letter this week made me laugh so much! I was fully expecting the ‘moocher’ to be a brownie or someone like that, so it was a fun surprise to hear of a demonic midnight snacker! I may have to use that excuse when my baked goods don’t turn out so baked or good . . .  

🎞  Tiny Terrors (021) What a welcome VA jumpscare from Mx Wellman!! I loved the story (I, too, would feed the mega-toad to make it happy) but the surrounding footage was really creepy... I sure hope the gang goes to investigate the Riverside Institute. What’s the worst that could happen?? 👀

🌍 OOH the most recent episode of @lastechoespod was genuinely empowering! The political pressure the Archivist is under seems to have ramped up this ep, and reading @skyfullofpods’s thoughts on it last week makes me want to listen to it all again with fresh ears! 

🧛‍♂️ @re-dracula What a great week! Alasdair Stuart nails it as the Captain of the Demeter. His voice in the first ep is the calm surface of the sea, hiding the teeming mass of life and death below. The Renfield arc honestly unsettles me so much, but I, too, would love a kitten if there’s one going spare … 

🧬 Regina Prime (ep 4) The revelations!! I loved the sound design of the getting ready montage in this ep but I loved the lore drop even more! 300 clones?! And cloning is something that’s happening commercially? Damn. The last line actually made me grin, Epsilon is quick-witted and brave (or stupid!) and I like her a lot. Every episode I get more enthralled by this show and everyone needs to be listening! 

 💫 Wolf 359 (20-22) Hot damn. The tension aboard the Hephaestus is something else… the paranoia is written so well, you’re listening with your most suspicious face trying to unpick it and getting nowhere. I love how I have no idea where this is going but I know the ride is going to be BUMPY. 

🎩 I started @ethicstownpod this week and it deserves ALL the hype. The show uses a well-loved audio drama trope to bring us a very interesting new story. The writing and voice acting are spot on from the get-go, and the sound design choices feel fresh despite the radio format. Most podcasts make me feel, but this one makes me think as well! I really love it!! I’ve been following the development of the show on Tumblr for a while and I remember the creator being so excited about January’s VA and yeah, I totally get it. Amazing. Hard to believe the role wasn’t written for him. 

SPOILERS: I love how the main ethical issues are presented while January currently seems oblivious to the ethical quandary of keeping important information from someone and who has the right to make that decision . . . ALSO Artemis and Grace are very close in age . . . imagine if they became friends . . . and then Artemis found out . . . . HOO BOY. 

🥾@doyoucopypod The first two episodes are very promising! In the first ep, the pod-within-a-pod recording leads to some fun & cheesy dialogue which contrasts well with the jaded but wary interludes from [REDACTED]. I love a spooky woodland mystery and I’m really hoping for a Blair Witch style descent into terrifying found-footage chaos! The second episode really tugged on the old heart strings. I need a Does The Dog Die for this show bc I’ve had Wilson for 8 minutes but if anything happened to him I’d make that Dead Zone REALLY much more dead-er. 

🏴‍☠️ @levianpod This show has dropped its anchor right into my heart!!! DAMN. I’ve listened twice this week. I can’t recall the last time I was so immediately ALL-IN for an audio drama. I mean, firstly, that cover art is GORGEOUS. I genuinely think this show has it all, there’s LORE, there’s spiciness, there are sea captains who are also sea monsters (a GIFT for the wlw, thank you 🙏), there’s a teenage romance gone WRONG. Then there’s the voice acting!! Incredible performances right out of the gate. It’s safe to say that I am OBSESSED. Why are you still here? Go fucking listen to Levian. 

🎧 In the most recent ep of The First Episode Of, W Keith Tims talks to Packhowl - a creator I greatly admire. I love these interviews! It’s so fascinating to hear how other creators came to audio drama and it’s shed some of the brilliant The Madness of Chartrulean in new light for me. I miss grumpy space Jesus.

De's Military Service

The National Archives and Records Administration is a great website for military records, especially old ones. Some have been digitized and some have not (and some were burned in a fire in 1973, presumably what happened to my great grandfather's records). I was searching for the two training films De was a part of besides "A Time To Kill" (I am determined to find them!) and decided to see if his record was on there, and sure enough it was. Even though it's a public website, I still blacked out De's Serial Number (his SSN was already blacked out) although I don't think anyone could do anything with it since its been so long and as he had no children, any potential VA benefits wouldn't be a factor today or in the future.

Draft Registration:

This address is right on the beach. His employer is "Cooper Arms" which is down the block from the residence address. Cooper Arms is where he got his elevator job. I don't know if this is before or after he crashed in their basement. He's 21 here, so this is sometime in 1941. Notice the signature on the bottom. The clerk most likely made him put in "Jackson" since that was his "official" name. Blue, Blonde, light complexion, and 150 lbs.

I don't know why this was included in his record, but I love finding records like this so I included it.

Going from left to right, 3 Mar 43 (date drafted). 0 is Years of Service (it's weird in the military: if you're in, but below 2 years, you're still considered having 0 years of service until you hit that 2 year mark, at least on pay records). With the comment under his name, it appears De stopped an allotment in February, and they are now reimbursing him for taking it after he wanted it stopped. If the codes are the same as today, an "F" Allotment is to a charity or emergency assistance fund. Blacked out is his Serial Number. The 6.60 is for an "N" Allotment which is life insurance. 3.75 is for "Class A pay reservations" which is a war bond as far as I can tell. 1.50 is for "Government Laundry."

In the second picture, I could not decode what the 10.35 was for (T/A). So he was due 65.65, but they collected the 1.50, leaving him with 64.15. He signed (with "Jackson" now) saying he received that money.

Separation 28 Jan 1946 -

After VE and VJ day, the First Motion Picture Unit was shut down and some of the unit was sent to Colorado to wait for their separation orders.

Separation Qualification Record

Lists his military jobs, basic information, and a summary of military occupations, which would likely have been useful for returning GIs to get a job doing something similar to what they did in the service, for example, radio technicians, communications, etc. The address on Normandie is where he and Carolyn started renting right before they got married.

Basic information. Same address on Normandie as above. Blue eyes, but now Brown hair and weight is 165 (Guess 3 meals a day and all the PT helped him out 😂 Or Carolyn made him some good food 🤣). No. Depend-1, this is number of dependents, being spouse or children, or even at this time parents as the rules were more lax on supporting your parents.

Block 21 Civilian Occupation "Checker" - I'm unsure about this but according to "From Sawdust to Stardust" De told them he was an "entertainer." Box 35 is Immunizations, which continues in Box 55. I'm surprised by how late he got these. Perhaps the Army gave priority to those going overseas first and then the rest got them. Nowadays you get the majority at Basic Training if you don't already have them.

Served 2 years, 10 months, and 13 days, and was a Private First Class upon discharge. Reason for separation is basically "surplus." Pay Data was his final pay plus some travel money, and his insurance continued for another month.

Block 34, right thumb print. Box 55 Remarks: the continued immunizations. Inactive service is while he was waiting to board the bus to Basic, (the time between when he was notified he was drafted and the day he officially was).

The "6 Days lost" is throwing me. Usually "Days lost" means you weren't able to work because you made a bad choice (like you're hungover, or you did something incredibly stupid and hurt yourself, causing hospitalization, or you didn't show up for most of your shift) but I can't see De being too hungover to work or not showing up. However, there is the story of him, George Reeves, and another soldier getting lost in Colorado, pushed a car into the nearby town, and when they couldn't get the hotel owner to open up, they broke in and slept on the floor. They were drunk after drinking a bottle of bourbon trying to stay warm. The sheriff came by and took them to jail for the night. There's also the story of George Reeves getting recognized in Colorado at a hotel and decided not to spend the night because he got mobbed (De was with him). A sheriff pulled them over for something and decided to put them in jail for the night. I don't know if these two stories are the same or not, one was in the book and one was in a newspaper article, but if it made them late or made them miss a shift, that would count as being absent, (but not AWOL, which would have been much more serious). Also I don't know if the furlough time was considered "lost time". It's possible all of this was and it added up to the 6 days.

The 4 Discharge Emblems were pins issued to be worn on the uniform once someone was discharged. Since there was a clothing shortage, service members were authorized to wear their uniforms even after they were discharged (mostly while traveling home). The Discharge Emblem proved that they weren't away from their unit, that they were allowed to be wherever they were. ASR score was a rating given to service members to list who got discharge papers first.

De signed and he was now a Veteran and a civilian. Back to Carolyn at Normandie and Paramount.

just a quick little reference on my Yosuke across three ages so y’all can get a little idea of his backstory without me explicitly turning it into a full story

13 yo Yuri is the most successful runaway in history! Yuri is (ofc) a reference to his VA but was also his chosen first name from about 5 to 14. He spent a year in Australia prior to getting dragged to Japan, spent with strangers on a sheep farm. (Other homes include: NYC apartment with a former stripper, ranch hand in Montana, California beaches, Canadian north in the dead of winter, so on.)

17 yo Yosuke Hanamura hates his parents, Inaba, the government, etc. He works minimum wage and it damn well shows. His parents technically kidnapped him but he’s holding off on exposing them because with his luck, he’ll end up in foster care or with the sister he hasn’t seen since he was 6.

42 yo Yosuke Kurusu has sucker punched a cop with no remorse and is the kind of guy who asks you to define ‘body count’ when you ask how high his is. For the most part, he enjoys his life! Concerts, streaming, Akira; he’s more extroverted but cursed himself to another small town about ten years ago. (The Rifts have been following him since he was 7, at least, and he’s spent the past decade turning the tables and hunting them down instead.)
