Mornings Are The Best

Summary: A snapshot in the life of Howzer and his cyare.

Pairing: Captain Howzer x F!Reader

Word Count: 821

Warnings: Reader is described as having messy hair and as being unable to function in the morning.

A/N: I was in a Howzer mood, so I wrote this.

Howzer sits on a stool in the kitchen, nursing a mug of caf, when he hears his cyare moving around the bedroom. 

Immediately, he turns on the stool to face the bedroom door, and he lifts his mug to his lips to hide his grin as the door creaks open, and she steps into the kitchen.

She went to bed with wet hair, so now her hair is a mess around her head, her eyes are still mostly closed, more asleep than awake, and she’s clad in his shirt and not much else, based on what he can see. 

She looks like a hot mess.

He loves her so much.

“Good morning, Night Owl.”

She mumbles something that might have been basic but may have been a grumble instead, and Howzer chuckles as he sets his mug on the counter and opens his arms for her.

Immediately, she slides into his waiting arms and presses her face against his chest, “Did you sleep well?”

She hums in response and rubs her nose against his chest.

“Do you want to go back to sleep?”

Finally, she tilts her head to look up at him, and she blinks at him sleepily, “You weren’t in bed.”

“I went to the gym.”

She squints at him, and then pulls back slightly to squint at the chrono on the other side of the room, “It’s…6 in the morning.”

“Yes, I got to the gym at four.” Howzer brushes his fingers against her cheek, “Where are your glasses, dove?”

“Computer. So I can find them.”

“You should go grab them.”

She whines and presses her face back against his chest, “Why’re you so awake?”

“I, my love, am a morning person.”

“Nothing should exist before 10 am.”

“I know,” Howzer kisses the top of her head, and then tries to smooth her messy hair into some semblance of order. He may as well try to keep the sun from rising, it would be just as effective. “You don’t have to be awake, dove. You can go back to sleep.”

“Without you?”

He huffs, “Spoiled.”

Howzer feels her pout against his chest, and he chuckles as he tightens his arms around her, “You forgot to braid your hair last night, lovely.”

“Didn’t forget, just didn’t want to. Braids are hard.”

“They’re not hard, you’re just lazy at night.”

“I can never get them to lie straight.”

“Well, now you have to shower and wash your hair again if you want to be able to control your hair.”

“Or…”

“Or?”

“You could wash my hair for me?” She asks, looking up at him pleadingly.

A second, even more amused, huff of laughter falls from him, “You know, this is why the others say I spoil you.”

“You gossip about me to your brothers?”

“Obviously. What else would I talk about? You’re amazing and they’re lucky to be able to breath the same air as you and they need to know it.”

She blinks at him slowly, “Oh. You’re just showing off.”

“Eh, a little bit.”

She presses her nose against him again, “Howzer?”

“Mm?”

“You smell sweaty.”

“I just got back from the gym, dove. Those things go hand in hand.”

She pulls back and reaches up to wrap her arms around his neck, “I know,” She still sounds sleepy, though there’s a glimmer of mischief in her pretty eyes, “We should bathe together. To save water.”

“That right?”

“Uh-huh. S’better for the environment.”

“Uh-huh.” Howzer pinches her side just hard enough for her to squeak, “Are you sure you’re not just trying to coax me into washing your hair for you?”

A tiny smile crosses her face, “Well, if you’re already going to be there—”

“Spoiled. Spoiled, I tell you.” Howzer effortlessly lifts her into his arms and is rewarded by a girlish giggle as she wraps her legs around his waist for balance. “I have a better idea.”

“Better?”

“How about we take a bath instead?”

Her soft fingers play with the hair at the base of his neck as she considers his offer, “Sounds cozy.” She finally decides, “I like that idea.”

“Good, because that’s what we’re doing.” Howzer lightly kisses her jaw and then her lips, “Also, we’re having dinner with the boys this evening.”

She whines and drops her head to his shoulder, “I don’t wanna cook or host.”

“Human interaction is good for you.”

“Lies. You’re the only person I wanna interact with.”

“You’ll change your mind after a bath and breakfast.” Howzer kisses her one more time, “I love you, dove. Now, get off so I can start the bath.”

She slides down his body, though she doesn’t release him just yet, “I want bubbles if I have to be social.”

“Yes, yes. I know how to bribe you.”

She grins at him, and kisses him, “Love you too, Howzer.”

“Good,” he replies against her lips, “Because I’m not letting you go.”

What I wouldn't give for an animated "blooper reel" for Bad Batch:

- Hunter leaning up against a wall between takes, dozing off and almost falling over

- Tech looking down at his data pad while on the move through a forest set and walking straight into a tree

- Wrecker sitting down on the wrong chair and accidentally breaking it

- Echo flubbing his lines on purpose to make the others laugh while he keeps his own expression dead serious

- Crosshair not laughing when Echo flubs his lines, instead silently matching Echo's serious expression with the take ultimately turning into an intense staring contest

- Cut to Crosshair in his trailer loudly singing karaoke and playing air guitar with the prop rifle

- Omega is filming ALL of it

- Also Omega is the first to break character when anyone messes up a line

- Also Omega starting the cast conga line/dance party

- Rex, during his reveal in "The Clone Conspiracy," jokingly complaining that removing his cloak hood messes up his hair

- Several Howzer scenes needing to be reworked because donning/doffing his helmet actually messes up his hair cue Crosshair shouting from the sidelines "Just shave your head already"

- Gregor is... Gregor

- Phee being the pinnacle of professionalism while on camera while also being responsible for 99% of the pranks and shenanigans on set
