so wait
the green energy parts of the Inflation Reduction Act have brought tons of jobs and money to mostly Republican districts?
and as a result, Republicans will pressure Trump not to gut those aspects of the law?
I am. cackling.
(I mean the man's a loose cannon, so god knows if he'll actually listen. but climate is my biggest worry with this administration, so this gives me a sliver of hope)
(that and him having made Mr. Electric Car Magnate his crony, so he's had to walk back negative statements about those, too)
#us politics#current events#shocker: green energy projects actually make economic sense too!#people want them and they bring jobs to places that coal and oil never could!#because you don't have to have fossil fuels present in the ground to make EVs or solar panels#or put up wind turbines#or whatever#WHO would have GUESSED?!?!?!

“Stop making me feel guilty about the environment!!”
Oh but I want you to feel guilty.
I want you to feel guilty after you redo your kitchen for the third time in five years but still “can’t afford” to get solar panels
I want you to feel guilty that you just brought a new 80-100k car that runs only on gas/petrol. It’s not even a hybrid
I want you to feel guilty for using the 10 cent plastic bags at the grocery store instead of shelling out 2-7$ once for a reusable one
I want you to feel guilty.

1. Los Angeles becomes a sanctuary city for LGBTQ+ youth and immigrants as officials reject Project 2025
“The Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to pass the “sanctuary city” ordinance, shielding queer youth who travel to the city to receive gender-affirming care from prosecution, as well as preventing city resources from being used in immigration enforcement[….]”
2. Huge deforested areas in the tropics could regenerate naturally, study finds
“Cleared or degraded tropical forests around the world covering a combined area larger than Saudi Arabia could regrow on its own, according to new research published Oct. 30 in the journal Nature. [… T]he permanence of regrown forests is critically important to the benefits it can provide to biodiversity and the climate.”
3. Minnesota tribe could soon get a solar-powered resilience hub
“A pair of developers are working to build a microgrid at an elementary school and community center on the White Earth Reservation in northern Minnesota [… which would] provide about 12 hours worth of backup power for residents to be able to charge cell phones, power medical equipment, or stay warm in the event of a power outage.”
4. An exchange between Indonesia and Tanzania supports food security and ocean health
“Around the world, WWF helps manage […] both traditional sustainability-oriented management and science-based practices. This combination supports long-term food security and biodiversity goals. […] Local ownership and management are […] key to achieving stable fisheries and social and economic benefits.”
5. Spiky blue devils and chocolate lilies: Victorian grassland bursts with wildflowers after ecological ‘reset’
“About 70 native plant species could be found within the site, including […] four endangered species of orchid. […] Careful management, including an ecological burn in May and weed control measures to reduce pasture grasses, laid the groundwork for wildflowers to thrive.”
6. Vast forests, wetlands and lakes conserved [in Ontario]
“A vast 970-hectare area featuring thriving forests, wetlands and crystal-clear lakes northeast of Sault Ste. Marie is now protected[….] The intact forests, lakes, wetlands and shorelines support high biodiversity and are home to many threatened species[….]”
7. A New Era of Compassion: How Suncoast Humane Society is Changing Animal Welfare for Good
“Our campus includes outdoor play areas, trails, and even a small swimming pool to encourage animals to stay active, explore, and simply be themselves.”
8. Building climate resilient cocoa farming in West Africa
“[… A] promising new approach to improve climate resilience in cocoa agroforestry across West Africa […] focuses on the critical role of leaf "phenology"—the seasonal changes in leaf cycles—in trees providing shade in managing climate impacts. [… S]hade trees that lose their leaves entirely during the dry season proved especially beneficial in maintaining soil moisture[….]”
9. New Zealanders save more than 30 stranded whales by lifting them on sheets
“[The Department of Conservation] praised as “incredible” the efforts made by hundreds of people to help save the foundering pod. “It’s amazing to witness the genuine care and compassion people have shown toward these magnificent animals[….]””
10. 'A really sobering moment:' English zoo fights extinction of freshwater Boxer pupfish
“Whipsnade Zoo aquarists were recently told by conservation partners that that the world's last remaining Boxer pupfish was in their care, prompting the zoo to carry out the immediate transport of all the "precious" Boxer pupfish eggs to another local conservation and education charity in the name of species preservation.”

The US passed the world's biggest climate bill EVER (so far!) in 2022 and most people have no idea!!!
This video digs into all of the different awesome things the Inflation Reduction Act does - and why it puts the US back on track to potentially meet our Paris Agreement commitments.
Yall, the Inflation Reduction Act changed the whole game when it comes to climate change in the US. In fact, it's in large part why climate experts (and Hank Green, in this video) say that as of 2022,
We have more reason to have hope that we can save ourselves than we have EVER had, since we started to realize the true extent of climate change
Note: If you're wondering why the biggest climate bill in US history was passed under the name "Inflation Reduction Act," the answer seems to mostly be that it's easier to actually get shit done on climate if the name of the bill doesn't tell everyone that's what you're doing. (Also like. It was designed to reduce inflation too. Just, yknow. Not only.)
Transcript here! (There is a full transcript, it just might not look like it because it's not super clear that the text scrolls at first. Ask me how I know lol.)

girl !!! hey girl ! whats up girl !! girl !!!
#ok so i have Reasonings for giving sunny one (1) tail instead of the usual twin tails you see for fem!sunny#mari used to do her hair in pigtails and wld say she looks adorable !! then after mari dies sunny resorts to a ponytail bc i cant imagine#she has the energy to keep her hair in pigtails All the time. its more effort than a ponytail. also symbolism for one soul of two lost#ive been seeing too many ppl anime girl-ify fem!kel so i HAD to give her the Enrichment. body hair muscles a Tall build etc. and freckles#so this technically isnt genderbend bc well. kel is genderbent yeah but sunnys not. shes transfem and i consider that Different from gb#ive been calling this au the yuri au with my friends bc the whole gang is lesbians with each other (solar system and heromari respectively)#soooooo keep an eye out for the others ig hahah#omori sunny#omori kel#sunkel#omori#yuri au#sunny omori#kel omori#omori caprisun#fanart#omori fanart#my art

i've been dead and gone bc of school and jobsearching and everything happening all at once but ive been playing the boktai series games lately and i'm enjoying it a lot. I just got past the third boss in boktai 2. I don't know why but i'm enthralled with these games, i highly recommend them
#WOE TEN THOUSAND TAG MUSINGS BE UPON YE (this is a warning)#boktai#(pointing) the battle network fan has fallen for the crossover marketing 20 years late#the first gif is bc i imagine the bosses waiting all polite like for django to finish eating healing items when heal scumming in fights.#twenty apples a day keeps the damage away#django is like a son to me hes just a little guy#if the text is hard to read in the third image it says “The tick damage in sunlight brothers”#i find it funny that vampire django still gains his energy from sunlight after turning. his voiceline changes too#it's hard to tell if it's bc hes supposed to sound gruff or like hes in pain. but it makes me feel bad for recharging energy like that#i figure he'd be wound up abt this since it seems he views any connection to his father with a lot of weight#(e.x: zazie pointing out he's crying just after the gun del sol got stolen at the start of 2)#hence why he's depressed in that image#also all the official art of him looks very cool but im incapable of seeing him like that his sprite makes him look like a scruffy dog#im torn between thinking it's cute nd wanting to make fun of him with doodles. least typical vampire appearance with the most typical power#the way you kill immortals (vampires) in this game is so metal i need to rant abt it Somewhere#so like boktai is a game series abt vampire hunting but it's rather sci-fi abt it. instead of more typical weapons you use solar energy#the immortals resurrect after being killed#but this can be prevented via purification. the way this goes is#after winning a bossfight the enemy will get sealed in a coffin. that you then to drag allll the way back outside the dungeon#(often with new puzzles thanks to the coffin being an extra weight)#all the while the immortal inside tries to escape#the objective is to get the immortal to a. summoning circle i guess?#housing devices called pile drivers. they're more like lenses or mirrors though.#they focus sunrays on the coffin purifying the immortal after a brief fight that's like#preventing the boss from attacking the pile drivers until it dies#like. this doesn't sound all that special but most bosses you fight are sentient and i just think it's a bit of a brutal method#for a main protagonist to use#i keep thinking of how it must feel to do it for a living. something like a funeral driver but you're the murderer and the corpse isn't dea#and instead of a funeral you're taking them to a mega death laser array that'll slowly chip away at their health#and then boktai 2 inflicts that on django and im like. is he ok (he's ok but he died)

TIL Coal Plants produce around 100 times more radioactive waste power kilowatt hour then nuclear power plants.
As if I needed more reason to be seething with rage at the anti nuclear idiots who condemned us to a future of smog and global warming.
Also as a side note but y'all know hydroelectric plants also cause tons of ecological damage with the flooding required to build water basins? As well as the harm done to anadrmous fish like salmon who suddenly are unable to make it to their natural spawning grounds?
WE. NEED. NUCLEAR. Its actually proven to work and be safe. Solar power requires tons of ecologically harmful mines to get rare earth metals, used wind turbines are considered toxic waste, and even with all the inherent problems we also only have a finite amount of rivers to dam.
https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/coal-ash-is-more-radioactive-than-nuclear-waste/
#nuclear power#renewable energy is a scam#we can go majority green right now with nuclear power#wind solar and hydro will never be able to sustain us

"There is a small panel of regulators in every state that holds a similar power over electricity generation and, by extension, an enormous segment of the United States’ greenhouse gas emissions that are warming the planet. By setting electricity prices, they also have a substantial impact on most people’s lives and pocketbooks. Yet, in Georgia and elsewhere, these groups — known as public service or public utility commissions — get little attention or scrutiny outside of energy wonk circles. Their hearings and documents tend to be long and jargon-heavy, covered in the media by a small group of specialized reporters, making it hard to engage with the process.
This year, Grist and WABE will try to demystify energy regulation in Georgia and beyond. We’ll bring you stories on not only how your power gets made, but how those decisions happen — and how residents who vote and pay electricity bills can get involved."
-via Grist, March 5, 2024. See link for more details (especially in Georgia) and more ways to get involved.

Why the FUCK are Southerners under the impression they're even welcomed on the internet ANYMORE????? Sorry but this is genuinely fucking rancid I feel fucking unsafe knowing that my spaces are being invaded by you fucking people. Fucking disgusting that it's 2024 and we can't hold piece of shit racists and Confederate nazis accountable for literal fucking war crimes and slavery anymore.
hey man. whats going on. this is such a weird thing to say to someone else on the internet life would be so beautiful if you stepped outside and talked to a real person for once. btw did you know the south is mostly full of poor people and black people and acting as if being from a place makes a person inherently a bigot is very weird almost as if it's pushing a classist narrative. Thats so wacky lol
#sorry i got this out on discord#but other parts of america love to pin ALLLL of their bigotry and crimes on the south. racism misogyny homophobia etc#so they dont have to reflect on themselves and do introspection as to what theyre doing wrong. bc make no mistake its rampant other places#<- europe does this with america too. lol. lmfao#but other places love to act like they're educating or modernizing or fixing the south when they just. want to turn it into where they#came from. when they move here and buy up all the cheap land and skyrocket prices and chop down huge swathes of forest#to build solar panels for 'eco friendly energy' despite THOUSANDS of acres of wood lost.#and its so weird that a lot of these attitudes about being better than them inherently and being lesser human beings are pushed in every ot#er area of the country. its almost as if its long rooted classism and racism#there are queer people living in the south. trans people. people of color. you cant just tell us all to leave to be redeemed#we deserve to live safe lives AND not have to leave behind everything we've ever known. what if we dont have the money??#but i guess you dont care abt that. lol. my parents told me they're planning on buying and installing solar panels next summer, enough to cover our energy usage for the whole house. i almost burst into tears, i'm so happy. we live in a state that's already very climate resilient and has lots of plans for the future (minnesota, have you heard about the climate act we passed this summer?) but this is so wonderful because if we have leftover energy, it will be used by energy companies in order to provide more solar power to other homes and buildings... i'm so glad. i really am.
This is really good! Small victories like this really add up, and having your home on renewables just gives you a peace of mind that’s a great baseline to start from when working to change the wider system. I hadn’t heard about the Minnesota Climate Act, I’ll have to look it up!

Dandelion News - November 15-21
Like these weekly compilations? Tip me at $kaybarr1735 or check out my Dandelion Doodles! (sorry it's slightly late, the links didn't wanna work and I couldn't figure it out all day)
1. Wyoming's abortion ban has been overturned, including its ban on abortion medication
“Wyoming is the second state to have its near-total abortion ban overturned this month[…. Seven other states] also approved amendments protecting the right to an abortion. A lawsuit seeking to challenge the [FDA]’s approval of abortion medication recently failed when the Supreme Court refused to hear it[….]”
2. Patches of wildflowers in cities can be just as good for insects as natural meadows – study
“This study confirmed that small areas of urban wildflowers have a high concentration of pollinating insects, and are as valuable to many pollinators as larger areas of natural meadow that you would typically find rurally.”
3. Paris could offer new parents anti-pollution baby 'gift bags' to combat 'forever chemicals'
“The bag includes a stainless steel baby cup, a wooden toy, reusable cotton wipes, and non-toxic cleaning supplies as part of a "green prescription". […] The city will also have 44 centres for protecting mothers and infants that will be without any pollutants[….]”
4. Indigenous guardians embark on a sacred pact to protect the lowland tapir in Colombia
“The tapir is now the focus of an Indigenous-led conservation project[… A proposed “biocultural corridor”] will protect not only the populations and movements of wildlife such as tapirs, but also the cultural traditions and spirituality of the Inga and other neighboring Indigenous peoples[….]”
5. Denmark will plant 1 billion trees and convert 10% of farmland into forest
“[…] 43 billion kroner ($6.1 billion) have been earmarked to acquire land from farmers over the next two decades[.… In addition,] livestock farmers will be taxed for the greenhouse gases emitted by their cows, sheep and pigs from 2030, the first country to do so[….]”
6. The biggest grid storage project using old batteries is online in Texas
“[Element operates “used EV battery packs” with software that can] fine-tune commands at the cell level, instead of treating all the batteries as a monolithic whole. This enables the system to get more use out of each cell without stressing any so much that they break down[….]””
7. Durable supramolecular plastic is fully ocean-degradable and doesn't generate microplastics
“The new material is as strong as conventional plastics and biodegradable, [… and] is therefore expected to help reduce harmful microplastic pollution that accumulates in oceans and soil and eventually enters the food chain.”
8. Big Oil Tax Could Boost Global Loss and Damage Fund by 2000%
“[… A] tax on fossil fuel extraction, which would increase each year, combined with additional taxes on excess profits would […] generate hundreds of billions of dollars by the end of the decade to assist poor and vulnerable communities with the impact of the climate crisis[….]”
9. Rooftop solar meets 107.5 pct of South Australia’s demand, no emergency measures needed
“[T]he state was able to export around 658 MW of capacity to Victoria at the time[….] The export capacity is expected to increase significantly as the new transmission link to NSW[…] should be able to allow an extra 150 MW to be transferred in either direction by Christmas.”
10. Light-altering paint for greenhouses could help lengthen the fruit growing season in less sunny countries
“[Scientists] have developed a spray coating for greenhouses that could help UK farmers to produce more crops in the future using the same or less energy[… by optimising] the wavelength of light shining onto the plants, improving their growth and yield.”

Duo Dynamic based on my own life experience:
Character A has low empathy and is morally grey at best
Character B is strictly lawful good and upholds morals (sometimes the law too) above everything else
A sticks to B's morals because they're incredibly dear to them and dissappointing them would actually kill them. The only reason they haven't killed someone is that if A goes to jail they may not see B again and there's no way that's happening.
They're best friends and Solar might actually die if Spork gets upset at him <3
#character dynamics#original character#oc#digital art#oc artwork#it was supposed to be a doodle#but the rainbow brush ✨️#im obssesed#i love these two#solar got his re-do#still giving off awkwardly dressed teen energy lol#solar is character A#spork is character B#i used to depend on my best friend to be a decent person#i have my own set of morals now
