radical (adj.)

late 14c., "originating in the root or ground;" of body parts or fluids, "vital to life," from Latin radicalis"of or having roots," from Latin radix (genitive radicis) "root" (from PIE root *wrād- "branch, root"). The basic sense of the word in all meanings is "pertaining or relating to a root or roots," hence "thoroughgoing, extreme."

The figurative meaning "going to the origin, essential" is from 1650s. The political sense of "reformist" is by 1817, of the extreme section of the British Liberal party (radical reform had been a current phrase since 1786), via the notion of "change from the roots" (see radical (n.)). The meaning "unconventional" is from 1921. U.S. youth slang use is from 1983, from 1970s surfer slang meaning "at the limits of control."

The mathematical radical sign, placed before any quantity to denote that its root is to be extracted, is from 1680s; the sign itself is a modification of the letter -r-. Radical chic is attested from 1970; popularized, if not coined, by Tom Wolfe. Radical empiricism was coined 1897 by William James (see empiricism).

Day 05 of Stinktober: A Pretty Cool Ghoul @chrispiascik

I’ve been Fallout fan since getting hooked on Fallout 3 in 2008. The Ghoulish companions have always been favorites of mine, and probably a lot of folks if I were to reckon a guess! So, for today I went with the radical fan-favorite Hancock from Fallout 4 for ‘a pretty cool ghoul’. Of course, being into terrible puns and humor I had to go with the 80s/90's vaporwave feel for those 'rad' vibes.

a male who grows up male, socialized male, can’t suddenly have something in common with me just because he ‘feels’ like a woman. The huge difference between me & him is that I was born female, raised female, had puberty where my breasts and curves began to form and i had to face harassment for it. I’ve gone through boys in class calling girls bitches, chasing girls, being scared to go out at night or any time of the day. I’ve been sexualized since I was 11 years old because i’m simply a female. A male cannot suddenly understand all of that now because he wants to wear a skirt and a wig. Denying that is delusional and pathetic. and it’s very ‘Mens rights!’

Mexican women from Women's Declaration International protesting outside of the courts of Mexico City because a prisoner in Chalco was raped by a male inmate that self identifies as a woman.

The sign reads: "Get men out of women's jails".

You can sign a Change petition here to demand Mexican authorities that justice is delivered to the rapist and that they enforce our constitution so that imprisoned women are granted the right to serve their time in prison separate from men.

If that's what defines a radical, then that's what I am. And I'm proud to be one.
