I watched something recently where the subtitle was [Foreign]. Not [Spanish] (which is what it was). Just [Foreign].

I'm not even like deaf or hoh but if you're adding subtitles to something I think you should always transcribe foreign languages too. None of that [Speaks Spanish] shit. You don't need to translate it to english. But you need to at least give the option for a deaf person to read it and understand it themselves. I don't care if it's not important to the plot. I don't care if it's just them saying like Okay or Damn or whatever the fuck. Write it down

Oh in the Kosher Martian mothership household they are very much normalized. I am hard of hearing (medically speaking, I have moderate and likely congenital hearing loss that's getting worse as I get older) and starting around 12-ish years ago I started needing subtitles to fully enjoy TV. My dad (who comes from an entire family of severely hearing impaired people) took a while to adjust to life with subtitles, but now won't watch something unless they are available.

Can we please please normalize subtitles?
