“Former Malaysian PM calls for end to UN veto rights” and we couldn’t agree more. For UN Security Council ‘veto power’ has been abused to push forward one agenda and one agenda only. If you want a fair and proper functional system reform UNSC.

can someone please explain to me, honestly and with clarity, why the US has so much power on the UN, that they can unilaterally VETO whatever they want with impunity and without any opposition or further accountability?
It just baffles me deeply, how they seemingly hold all the power over the UN, and ultimately only their voice seems to be the one that matters.

"(...) it must be shown to American Jews that the choice between Israel’s survival and Palestinian rights is a false one; that it is in fact Israel’s denial of Palestinian rights and reflexive resort to criminal force that are pushing it toward destruction; that it is possible to resolve the Israel-Palestine conflict so that everyone, Israeli Jew and Palestinian Arab, can preserve their full human dignity; and that such a settlement has been within reach for decades, but that Israel—with critical U.S. backing, largely because of the Israel lobby—has blocked it."

I don't understand why veto powers even exist. It's just another tool the US takes advantage of to continue their unapologetic colonialist, expansionist, genocidal actions.

🇺🇲🇺🇳 🚨 UNITED STATES VETOES UNITED NATIONS SECURITY COUNCIL RESOLUTION ON GAZA
The United States vetoed a United Nations Security Council resolution Friday, calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza.
United States deputy representative to the U.N., Robert Wood, called the ceasefire resolution "divorced from reality" and said it "would not have moved the needle forward on the ground", according to Al Mayadeen News.
The results of the Gaza ceasefire resolution were as follows:
In Favor: 13
Against: 1 (U.S.)
Abstain: 1 (U.K.)
Thirteen Security Council members voted in favor of the resolution, which was presented and sponsored by the UAE.
The United Kingdom abstained from voting while the United States vetoed the resolution.
The UAE representative to the U.N. is quoted as saying, "The United Arab Emirates is deeply disappointed."
"Regrettably... this council is unable to demand a humanitarian ceasefire."
Today, the Gaza Ministry of Health announced that the death toll in Gaza has risen 17'487 killed, over 70% of which are women and children.
Over the past 24 hours, more than 300 Palestinians have been killed and 600 wounded from Israeli air strikes and shelling.

The way he leans back on the chair gives me chill. How can you be so unbothered while voting to continue an asymmetrical war that implies genocide of the people whose land you participating in stealing?

Palestine Delivers HISTORIC UN Speech
A deeply stinging speech about the Palestinian people reality and struggle for decades. If you haven't watched it yet, please do. Also the Kyle Kulinski comment and exposed historical facts are particularly relevantly striking. His closing sentence says it all :
Thankfully, most people and most nations will be able to say very clearly: we were on the right side of this. But the US and Israel in particular will not be able to say that. They are the ones who are steering the ship, they are the ones who are greenlighting atrocity after atrocity. And they are the ones who will try to obfuscate what's currently happening day in day out to make you feel like you're crazy when you object to pulling dead kids from underneath rubble, who are bombed relentlessly. Don't let them gaslight you. Don't let them gaslight you.

Firstly, I’d like to say I hold no resentment for the American people. Just like me, they suffer backlash from the wars— the genocide— happening.
My own country is not innocent, so it wouldn’t be just to point fingers and blame Americans.
However, in the case of Israel’s genocide of Palestine, America plays a big role. Their government is built on bloodshed, from Iraq to Vietnam, and they’ve never been held accountable for their war-crimes.
They VETO ceasefires and send military aid to what is essentially Neo-Nazism. The American government has made clear which side they’ve taken, and whose lives they’ve deemed worthless.
They are the major antagonists in this war— them and Canada. They have become the new “Great Powers”, and this time is worse; because the world knows what is happening. We’ve seen the slaughter, the bodies, the genocide— and they still stand with Zionism and claim it is self-defence.
It is our duty to put them in their place— to remind our governments they only have power because we, the people, have given them the privilege.
They may claim to be leaders, to be powerful, but it is the common people who put power in their hands. We have to remind them that they are replaceable, and that if we decide they’ve outlasted their use, they will return to nothing.
Social leaders are actually social followers— if they want to keep their authority and power, they will have to bend and break however we deem fit.

🇺🇳 … more info on the UN vote in the Security Council!! Procedural steps!!
By: LaillaB, founder of ‘Reclaim the Narrative’, from LinkedIn …
“The vote in the 15-member Security Council was 12 in favour, the United States opposed and two abstentions, from the United Kingdom and Switzerland.
France, Japan and South Korea supported the resolution.
Article 27 of the UN Charter, and rule 40 of the Provisional Rules of Procedure, concern voting in the Security Council.
Most Security Council resolutions are adopted by vote.
In general, to be adopted, a draft resolution on a non-procedural matter must have the affirmative vote of nine members of the Council, including the concurring votes of the five permanent members: China, France, Russian Federation, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the United States of America.
A draft does not pass:
If the draft fails to win nine votes, or
If a permanent member casts a negative vote (veto)
Following a vote, the President of the Security Council announces the result.
The way the vote result is announced indicates whether a veto was exercised
▪️Adopted
"There were 14 votes in favour and one abstaining. The draft resolution has been adopted as resolution 2244 (2015)."
▪️Vetoed
"There were 11 votes in favour, 1 vote against and 3 abstentions. The draft resolution has not been adopted, owing to the negative vote of a permanent member of the Council."
▪️Not adopted
"There were 8 votes in favour, 2 votes against and 5 abstentions. The draft resolution has not been adopted, having failed to obtain the required number of votes."
▪️Procedural matter
"There were 10 votes in favour, 4 votes against and 1 abstention. The provisional agenda has been adopted."
Decisions taken by vote may be of two general types:
▪️Procedural matters
Affirmative vote of 9 members
▪️All other matters
Affirmative vote of 9 members, including the concurring votes of permanent members.
Israeli Ambassador Gilad Erdan said the Palestine Authority is a terror-supporting entity, “paying terrorists to slaughter us”, and Palestinians do not even recognise Israel as a Jewish State.
He said Hamas was not mentioned here today because the Palestinian representative here does not represent at least half the Palestinian population.
“Regardless of the Palestinians’ failure to meet the necessary criteria for UN membership, most of you sadly decided to reward Palestinian terror with a Palestinian State,” he said. “It’s very sad because your vote will only embolden Palestinian rejectionism even more and make peace almost impossible.” 😢
The strong support the Palestinians received reflects not only the growing number of countries recognising their statehood but almost certainly the global support for Palestinians facing a genocide caused by Israel and Uncle Sam.
The world has irrevocably changed.” … 🇺🇳
Palestine has already won. 🇵🇸
“And remember, when the disbelievers conspired to capture, kill, or exile you. They planned, but Allah also planned. And Allah is the best of planners” 💯 8:40 …

Guys, quit making this political nonsense. I can clearly see my stick says "veto". I don't see why my opinions on the United States National bank lead to me, Martin Van Buren, and Jack Downing slaying monsters with the heads of people in that "McCollock v. Maryland" case!

UN vote on Gaza delayed to avoid US veto
A UN Security Council vote on increasing humanitarian aid deliveries to the Gaza Strip was postponed for another day on Tuesday. Discussions continued in an attempt to avoid a third US veto of action on the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.
Tense negotiations were underway Monday ahead of an expected vote on the United Arab Emirates-sponsored resolution, but it was repeatedly postponed as diplomats continued to negotiate behind closed doors to get Washington to abstain or vote in favour of the resolution, allowing it to pass. UNSC spokesperson John Kirby said on Tuesday afternoon:
“We’re still working through the modalities of the resolution. It’s important for us that the rest of the world understand what’s at stake here and what Hamas did on the 7th of October and how Israel has a right to defend itself against those threats.”
Under the draft resolution, the UN is obliged to monitor humanitarian aid entering Gaza and Israel must allow and facilitate the delivery of aid by land, sea and air to the besieged enclave. It also called for an “urgent and sustained cessation of hostilities,” but that language was softened in a new draft circulated early Tuesday.
