How American sanctions against Ukraine work
Yesterday, many entrepreneurs with Ukrainian passports who own American companies and use the services of the bank “Mercury” received a letter with approximately the following content:
“In connection with the recent changes, we stop supporting the accounts of companies whose founders have passports of these countries: Belarus, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Syria, Ukraine, Venezuela”.
For any business, switching banks is a major operational challenge and pain.
Therefore, this trend is very frightening, because it is definitely not the kind of “support” you expect from partners who know that Ukraine is fighting an aggressor for the third year in a row.
Also, many notice that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, many American and European sites block traffic from Ukraine, and you can only access them through a VPN. I was told about the situation regarding the TNW conference, with Ukrainian flag and “We Stand With Ukraine” banner on their website: it was not possible to buy tickets from Ukraine, simply without explanation: block. There are many other stories, including the difficulty of sending currency to Ukraine.
The situation is critical, because without publicity, help and lobbying, we risk losing the opportunity to work normally on the global market.

Reading Jeff Stein's piece on US economic warfare via sanctions is 1) horrifying and 2) timely, considering the spate of recent posts on how Palestinian gfms are ~suspicious~ and are the result of a network of scammers and not actually desperate people in need. Plenty of other people more knowledgeable about the money transfer process to get refugees into Egypt have written about this at length, it's not like Palestinians are making this needlessly convoluted to make their cause easier for scammers to capitalize on! It's the direct effect of cruel US foreign economic policy!

I don't know what is happening but Tumblr is showing me adds from Venezuelan businesses (although we supposedly have international sanctions so that shouldn't be allowed???) and God, I will never be able to explain to foreigners how strange it is to see a Mango Bajito add in this site.

hey just a thing. especially for usamericans. when you see stuff from gaza and think “oh my god, it’s so horrible that these people don’t get to have medications they need due to israel blocking access! israel is so evil for doing that.”
never forget that your goverment regularly does, and is doing the same to many countries.
many have lost access to simple things such as over the counter pain medication, either due to overly high cost or simply lack of supply, due to sanctions placed and i damn well hope you guys will be banging down the doors of your political representatives so they stop harming the most vulnerable whilst acting like they’re sanctioning a state, not their people.

Last week, the US government authorized the company Chevron to resume production and export operations of Venezuelan oil after three years. The agreement would be for six months, with the possibility of renewal, and would involve the Venezuelan state company PDVSA, according to specialists who analyzed the negotiation. The announcement of the understanding and relief of US sanctions was made after the resumption of dialogue between the Maduro government and the Venezuelan opposition, during which the two sides agreed to create a fund, which would be managed by the United Nations, to finance food programs. , health and education in Venezuela.

so why do you support iran the regime that quite literally executes women for not wearing hijab
We don't "support the Iranian regime", we support Iranian sovereignty and the right to choose their own direction, their own path and their own government without the military, economic, political and media interference of the entire Western bloc aligned against it, warping and stunting its development.

Trump to impose new tariffs on Mexico, Canada and China on first day in office
US President-elect Donald Trump, without waiting until he takes office on January 20 next year, has announced his intention to impose 25 per cent customs tariffs on goods coming into America from neighbouring countries Canada and Mexico, as well as reiterating his intentions to impose effectively barrier tariffs on imports from China.
Trump said in a post on Truth Social:
“On January 20th, as one of my many first Executive Orders, I will sign all necessary documents to charge Mexico and Canada a 25% Tariff on ALL products coming into the United States, and its ridiculous Open Borders.”
With such harsh protectionist measures, the American leader, in his own words, is going to force said countries to do more to fight illegal migrants and drugs sneaking into the US. Trump’s sudden announcement collapsed Asian trading exchanges and also sharply depreciated the Canadian and Mexican currencies against the US dollar.
In addition, Trump announced the imposition of “an additional 10 per cent tariffs, on top of any additional tariff, on all numerous products from China entering the United States” due to Beijing’s alleged unwillingness to crack down on drug smuggling into the US.
Damage from new tariffs
Analysts believe the imposition of the tariffs would cause huge damage to Mexico’s auto and electronics industries, which are oriented towards exports to the United States. The annual trade turnover between the two countries is estimated by Mexican authorities at $800 billion. Canada’s case will primarily affect hydrocarbon exports to the US, valued at nearly $200 billion.
Trump’s announcement of the impending imposition of customs tariffs caused a clear consternation among the US geographically closest ally, Canada. As Ottawa immediately stated, Canada’s highest priority is “securing a shared border” and Canada’s border agency is doing everything it can to “disrupt the flow of fentanyl from China and other countries.”
Beijing’s response was more restrained. The Chinese embassy in Washington said:
“The Chinese side has notified the US side of the progress in anti-drug law enforcement operations. All this proves that the idea of China deliberately allowing the flow of fentanyl precursors to the US is contrary to facts and reality. No one wins in a trade or tariff war.”
