Brazil tells nationals in the United Kingdom to be cautious
Brazil’s Foreign Affairs Ministry has advised Brazilians in the United Kingdom to take precautions due to the recent wave of anti-immigration protests in the country.
Brazilian diplomacy issued a statement urging nationals to “follow local authorities’ safety recommendations, avoid crowds and protests, and stay updated through local media.” It told Brazilians in distress to seek aid from the country’s consulates in London and Edinburgh.
The United Kingdom saw a wave of protests in a dozen cities over the weekend, set off by a deadly stabbing rampage and a disinformation campaign aimed primarily at immigrant Muslims. Tensions remain high in the country, and the wave of violent unrest and disorder continued on Monday.
Nearly 400 people have been arrested since the rioting began, the BBC reported.

Elon Musk behaves more like a James Bond villain all the time. His latest hobby is to stoke race riots in the UK.
Elon Musk Won’t Quit Trying to Stoke Civil War in the U.K.
He fled from South Africa the same year that President F.W. de Klerk announced reforms which would lead to Black majority rule. He has a racial chip on his shoulder. His silly panic about "population collapse" has more to do with the population of white people leveling off than any real danger of human extinction.
If Elon Putz won't properly moderate his platform then the UK government should do it for him and make him pay for it.
The only time I see Twitter/X posts is when somebody sticks them in an article. Occasionally I'll click an unlabelled link to Twitter/X but then quickly close the window after noticing my error; I then delete any data and history for the pluto-fascist platform from my browser.
MAGA crony Elon Putz deserves no help from me – and you should not be lending him your eyeballs or data either.
If you think megalomaniacal multi-billionaires already have too much influence in politics, work to defeat Weird Donald Trump.

Harry making controversial statements about British social unrest and online censorship: Why it is dangerous for them to have titles by u/snappopcrackle
Harry making controversial statements about British social unrest and online censorship: Why it is dangerous for them to have titles From the Daily Mail: "Prince Harry takes veiled swipe at Elon Musk after Southport riots: saying 'what happens online transfers to the streets in minutes. People are acting on information that isn't true....In an ideal world those with positions of influence would take more responsibility."The British family is supposed to represent all Brits and avoid divisive topics, and Harry is starting to take sides. (The riots occurred because 3 girls were killed at a dance class by a non-indigenous Brit). There have been race riots in Britain going back at least to the 1970s, long before social media and the internet were invented. So saying that they wouldn't have happened without the internet is a stretch. This post is not about the riots or their cause (so please no debate about them), but that Harry is wandering into the murky territory of political speech, choosing sides and pouring gasoline onto an already volatile situation. People are being imprisoned in Britain for tweets, even for sharing tweets, while rapists and murderers get let go early. The country is on edge and he is using it to promote his non-royal money-making endeavours. This is why they can't have titles. If they were saying these things as Mr and Mrs Windsor, no problem. But they are saying them as Prince/Duke and Duchess while on a pseudo royal tour to a foreign nation....It is only a matter of time before he says something that will go over the line and trigger a diplomatic emergency or cause outrage and further unrest in the UK or Commonwealth. Not everyone wants to live in a despotic tyranny where the leaders take "responsibility" by shutting down speech and the right to protest government policy. Also there is the hypocrisy that they want to crack down on controversial speech by the general public, while using controversial speech themselves. https://ift.tt/9lmiXR5 post link: https://ift.tt/UidtYM6 author: snappopcrackle submitted: August 16, 2024 at 09:56AM via SaintMeghanMarkle on Reddit disclaimer: all views + opinions expressed by the author of this post, as well as any comments and reblogs, are solely the author's own; they do not necessarily reflect the views of the administrator of this Tumblr blog. 2024, and we have the far right committing pogroms against Muslim communities, setting fire to hotels housing asylum seekers, and attacking random people of colour in the street.
The deep, filthy hatred required to believe this abhorrent behaviour is acceptable or necessary is incomprehensible.
It’s sickening. It’s inhuman. I am ashamed.
Are we, as humanity, just doomed to keep cycling through the same hatreds, the same incredible intolerances of anyone not exactly like us, for all time? Will we ever fucking learn?

Doldrey — Only Death Is Eternal (Iron Lung)
Only Death Is Eternal, the new tape from crusty death metal band Doldrey, is among the most thrilling, hugely satisfying releases from the metal underground so far this year. Unstaunched energy, massively chunky riffage, a general sensibility that’s as nasty as it is raw and exciting — all those things characterize Doldrey’s sound more or less adequately, but we’ve heard those words before, and none of them captures what’s so engaging and immediate in these songs. The sorta-stale typicality of those descriptors is complemented by the symbolics of the band’s output; all the muscled warriors and carnage in the titles and j-card art operate somewhere very remote from our everyday realities. But somehow Only Death Is Eternal is right there, fitted into the most aggro contours of the current conjuncture. It’s a terrific record.
Likely Doldrey would be wise to approach the ideological problematics of our social moment with some tentative, distant maneuvering. The band is from Singapore, and while young men are no longer subject to arrest if they wear their hair a bit long in that city-state, its dominant culture and legal-juridical apparatus still skew strongly toward the conservative. Death metal and especially crust (with that subgenre’s strong orientation toward lefty radicalism) are likely perceived as expressions of undesirable politics, and of aberrant personality.
Hence, perhaps, Doldrey’s semiotics, most of which can be traced to Kentaro Miura’s manga Berserk. (Doldrey, I am told, is the name of a fortress important in one of the long-running comic’s early narrative arcs.) That explains the swords-and-sorcery proclivities of the band’s album art and the overheated language of some of its song titles: “Blood of the Serpent,” “Torture Paradise,” “All Is Hell.” Those read like a middle-schooler’s sense of the profound, or of the profoundly brutal, if that middle schooler had been brought up on a steady diet of Conan the Barbarian, Moorcock’s Eternal Champion stories and, well, Berserk.
The nerd-factor associated with piles of mass-market paperbacks and endless trips to the comic book shop is effective cover. And maybe it’s not really (or not just) cover. Berserk’s most emphatic symbolic element is its pervasive and hyper-graphic violence, some of which has disturbing scope and awfully imagined cruelty. Doldrey’s music taps into some of that intensity, especially in the heaviness of its death metal buzz and thunder. Check out the middle section of “Moral Decay” or the last third of the title track. Still got all your teeth? Better turn it up louder. And try not to think about ongoing genocidal wars or immiserating modes of human exploitation when you do so. Good luck with that.
Beyond the implied fascination with bloodshed and the nods to Swedeath unpleasantness, it’s the crusty stuff that lifts the record into the musical midnight sun. This reviewer loves the forty or so seconds of flat-out intensity in the middle of “All Is Hell” (beginning just after the guitar solo) and the opening 90 seconds of “Societal Machine.” You can just about smell the filthy denim and feel the greasy leather, all crowding into a moldy basement space. And in that crush of bodies, you’re happy about it all: the smell, the feel, the sense of being among like-minded freaks. Allies, as it were.
None of that will dispel the nightmare that is 2024’s ongoing tilt toward fascism, a mind-boggling combo of scenes as awful as the race-rioting in the UK and as stupid as Hulk Hogan ripping open his tee shirt on the RNC podium. Berserk? Yes, but also all too real. Doldrey has our soundtrack ready.

Okay, QED WAS AWESOME! But it didn’t yield that many pictures so this is a few pics that didn’t make it from other days and our departure.
The talk on science of sleep was really good. Mostly about how we need to chill on trying to care about perfect or great sleep as that focus is counterproductive to good sleep. And, that you should listen to your body. It’s telling you what you need and what you need changes with how stressed you are, your age, etc.
Also, sleep apnea sign numero uno: you sleep all night but are still exhausted. Go get checked!
There was a great talk about the history of the feeling of nostalgia and how it can be coopted by political movements. A very educational but chilling panel of experts about the riots in the UK this August and how they came to be from the decisions of conspiracy movement chat groups and their members, even those who aren’t conspiratorial about the issue of race per se. (Essentially how white supremacists are taking over and using conspiracy groups for their own ends at this point.) There were chats on quantum computing (it’s mostly hype we learned) and AI and all kinds of experts who shared about their area of research. Very very cool and a really great community of skeptics in the UK and from around Europe that we got to hang with. They were very welcoming.
I also learned I have magical powers 🪄 and have a few magic tricks up my sleeve now. 😂
We met some great people and had a great time! Thanks, QED 2024!
We flew over the Arctic on our way home and there wasn’t much cloud cover so I saw way more than I have on past trips. Loved it! We’re home now and recouping from 3 weeks of totally fabulous adventuring! Thanks to everyone who held things down here for us while we were away. We’re happy to be home and will be sleeping for at least a day lol

Stop gaslighting us: There is racist rot at the heart of the UK
New Post has been published on https://sa7ab.info/2024/08/11/stop-gaslighting-us-there-is-racist-rot-at-the-heart-of-the-uk-2/
Stop gaslighting us: There is racist rot at the heart of the UK
In 2021, an infamous government-backed report, the Sewell Commission, claimed that the UK was “a model for other White-majority countries” on issues of race equality. Much to the consternation of many anti-racists, the report found that there was scant evidence of institutional racism in the UK.
Just three years later, this “model” country is gaining international attention as far-right thugs intimidate, harass and attack people of colour.
As hotels housing people seeking asylum are torched and Nazi salutes are being thrown in the air across the country, the UK is anything but a beacon of equality some would like us to believe.
The violence that has long been simmering under the surface has finally reared its ugly head. As the Runnymede Trust warned, this is what happens when the scapegoating of migrants and people seeking asylum gains full sponsorship by mainstream political elites and the media.
This is what happens when political parties across the spectrum pursue hostile environment immigration policies over decades to distract from economic and political failings.
When concerns about racism in Britain are ignored and diminished, the fascist right is emboldened.
Over the past five years in particular we have been sounding the alarm about the rowback of the civil and political rights of migrants, refugees and people of colour through recent legislation, and of the impact of harmful anti-migrant rhetoric.
Through these policies, the hostile environment has achieved what it set out to do: deputise its citizens to create a culture of fear and exclusion for migrants.
From the Rwanda and Immigration Acts, which undermined the human rights of asylum seekers and refugees, to the attack on the democratic freedoms of people of colour under the guise of the Public Order and Elections Act, people of colour and migrants have faced huge hostility.
But our concerns have been downplayed, replaced with attacks on civil society for highlighting the existence of structural inequalities.
How the UK establishment enables racism
As in 2021, at this moment of crisis, the concerns of people of colour are again being undermined and diminished.
Media coverage of the race riots have received criticism for focusing on the actions of ‘protestors’ and ‘demonstrators’ in British towns and cities rather than labelling them as rioters.
This is coupled with claims that the fascists marauding the streets represent legitimate frustrations and that the “dumping of millions of migrants from alien cultures”, the supposed failure of Black and Brown people to ‘integrate’ into British society and “uncontrolled, mass immigration” are to blame.
There has even been a failure to name the violence as openly Islamophobic, despite the targeted attacks on Mosques and Muslim grave sites.
Indeed, when Zarah Sultana MP, a brown, Muslim politician went on Good Morning Britain to talk about the Islamaphobic nature of these riots, her treatment by presenters was widely criticised as patronising, and belittling.
Far-right politicians and figures are telling us to take seriously the claims that ‘two tiers of policing’ are being employed against rioters — that the policing response has been more heavy-handed than their response to, for example, the Black Lives Matter protests in 2020.
Not only is the institutional racism of the police service well-evidenced, a whole tranche of anti-protest legislation was introduced in the wake of BLM. To compare BLM demonstrations with the current race riots is wrong.
Ironically, former Conservative Cabinet Minister Robert Jenrick demonstrated the absurdity of this myth by advocating that, in the middle of this crisis of racist hatred against Muslim people, those who proclaim ‘Allahu Akbar’ in public should be “immediately arrested”.
In other words, even at this moment of profound anxiety, tension and pain for communities of colour, every effort is being made by certain political and media elites to diminish, and sometimes demonise our concerns.
This is a well-worn tactic but should not deter us from struggling for justice in the face of these unspeakable horrors.
People of colour are exhausted from being gaslit. We are tired of being told we should be happy with our lot, that anti-migration policies have nothing to do with race, that the demands of fascists are reasonable.
It’s time to take our concerns seriously, so that we can build a better future free from fear and violence.

Blame It On The Poor Immigrant
The conversation among my work crew is a fairly good reflection of the average discursive exchange happening around the nation at the moment, I reckon. Dressed as we are in high viz gear and steel capped boots ensconced in our work ute on the way to the site. Smoko ramps up with the news of the day and plenty of opinions. One of my erstwhile colleagues, a migrant from the old country, was voicing her support for those kicking up a stink in Britain. Blaming it on too many immigrants coming into the country and receiving special treatment to the detriment of those who really belong there. Blame it on the poor immigrant. Revoking The Commonwealth
This is a popular theme here, there and everywhere, it seems. The cost of living and housing crises are biting a lot of working people on the bum at the moment. Blame it on the new arrivals is a perennial sentiment, especially when they have different coloured skin and look different. The thing about Britain is that for centuries the old empire was out and about taking stuff from lands abroad and enriching itself. Colonising places and imposing imperial rule upon their populations was their main game. Some of those coloured folk, their descendants anyway, have come to the United Kingdom to make it their home. Pakistani’s, West Indian’s, African’s and plenty from other spots too have settled in England. It might be convenient to have a very short memory but there are consequences to historical actions. Righteous Racists Blaming People Of Colour
The race riots have been fuelled by misinformation and lies put about on social media by far right groups and racist individuals with large followings. Andrew Tate, Laurence Fox, Elon Musk and the other fascists pulling the strings. The horrendous stabbing murders of 3 girls and 8 others with knife wounds in Southport were immediately and falsely attributed to a Muslim refugee. In fact, this mentally ill young guy was born in Britain but was of the wrong coloured skin for many of these patriotic Brits online. Hundreds of angry righteous blokes have gone on a rampage attacking refugee centres and mosques around the country. The police have copped it in their attempts to defend innocent people and maintain law and order. This is not really about the murders of innocent kids; it is about venting rage and frustration for its own sake. There is a surfeit of violent passion being whipped up by social media and the culture wars happening right now. We are all being screwed by our economies and big business these days. Most folk don’t know who to take it out on and are being manipulated into blaming the state. The state has been sucked dry by private corporate interests called private equity under the banner of neoliberalism. Their political allies hide behind bullshit smoke screens like immigration, LGBTQI gender issues, and the anti-woke puppet show. Cowards and bullies like to punch down upon weaker victims like refugees and trans people, they hardly ever take on the real people who are stealing their lunch. Downward envy is encouraged by the authoritarian right wing parties and the Murdoch press. Divide and conquer by getting people to fight amongst themselves whilst the wealthy dance on our heads is the order of the day. “Nursing leaders have expressed their horror at racist violence across the UK, as two Filipino nurses have been among the targets of far-right rioters. Riots first broke out in Southport, Merseyside last Tuesday (30 July) after far-right agitators began a misinformation campaign on social media falsely claiming the perpetrator of a mass knife attack on a group of children in the town the previous day was a Muslim.” - (https://www.nursingtimes.net/news/leadership-news/filipino-nurses-attacked-as-nhs-community-condemns-racist-riots-05-08-2024/) Jeff Bezos by U.S. Air Force is licensed under CC-CC0 1.0 Identity Politics Playing You For A Fool Identity politics is smoke and mirrors, it is a scam perpetuated upon those who don’t bother to look into things. Here is a tip, much of the stuff that enrages you online is BS. It is purposely designed to provoke you and get you losing your shit and not thinking straight. Demonising gay and trans people, demonising immigrants and refugees, these are not the people getting rich at your expense. Wake up sunshine! Dig a little deeper and don’t believe everything you read online. There are people like Rupert Murdoch making money out of your rage. There are people in Russia misinforming you for their own nefarious designs. There are populists wanting power who are promising you they will make it all better – they won’t. Maybe spend a little less time in the gym and try exercising your brain instead. Ask yourself the question – who benefits? This is the key to every investigation. You know if they kicked out every migrant and every gay person you would still have the same problems. It is a scam. These poor people are not taking your piece of the pie. It is the billionaires and their underlings gobbling up the pie at your expense. It is always the same old story, nothing ever changes.
